Windows 7 running on bootcamp?

Hi all, and happy new year.
I just bought windows 7 professional to install it in my mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro. I am just waiting for the bootcamp updated promised by the end of the year.
I just wanted to know if installing W7 using bootcamp, does windows run as if it were in a PC, or if it runs slower/faster/worse/better in a Mac? i was just wondering if bootcamp affects the preformance in windows in any way, or the mac?
Thank you very much

You have EFI for 32-bit, Apple started using EFI 64-bit in 2008, to support 64-bit Vista SP1 and later (including 7).
You can modify the DVD, which may require installing Windows in a VM first; or, not having 4GB or more RAM you need to use, go with 32-bit.
If you Google for that "Select..." and plug in "Mac" there are threads; sites; FAQs on how to work around.
But this is why the list of supported Macs for Windows 7 excludes Apple's idea of "officially" supported (why it includes 32-bit must be marketing decision).

  • My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using.

My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using. I use a cheap Logitech Stereo Headset H130, but since there is only on audio plugin on the computer, I purchased a 3.5 mm 4-pin smartphone audio adapter thingy. That allowed me to put both my the sound coming to my headset & the microphone on my headset onto one wire. Everything worked wonderfully when running the Mac OS since they probably have support for that kind of stuff. The problem is though that once I try to use the same method in Windows 7, the OS doesn't recognize my headset microphone at all, but, instead when recording my voice decides to use the built-in mac microphone. Using this adapter still allows me to hear from my headset, but not use the microphone and that becomes a problem. It might be so that Windows 7 doesn't have support\drivers for that... How should I continue from here on out? Any advice?

From what I have read from others on here you may be out of luck. You would need the appropriate Windows drivers for the Cirrus chip in the Mac and no one has been able to successfully locate them. Apple wouldn't support this since Windows is an optional install.
Sorry to bring the bad news.

  • HP C309 G AIO can't install in Windows 7 64bit  running under BootCamp

HP C309 G Printer wont install in Windows 7 64bit running under BootCamp on a new iMac
Just bought a new iMac. Installed HP C309 all in one without incident on the Mac side. I am also running Windows 7 on iMac through a program called Bootcamp. When I boot to Windows 7 and try to install the newly downloaded software for windows 7 from the HP site, it begins to load then stops, giving me two error messages. They are both essentially the same except one says software and the other says hardware. The software one says: This computer does not have the necessary USB software support to allow completion of a USB installation. The printer plugs directly into the monitor in one of four usb ports. All the usb ports work on the system when using Windows 7. I have other devices working and plugged into the usb ports while in Windows 7. It is almost like the printer software is unable to find the usb software or hardware. Any ideas

Well, you have a full Window's 7 install so you would really have to go to HP and/or Microsoft to see what is going on. Bootcamp basically is only involved with "booting" and just installs Apple product drivers and such. Just treat the Window's side as if you are using it on a "normal" Window's PC. (As far as problems, crash's, updates, or any other Windows, HP, etc, problems you may have.)
"Installed HP C309 all in one without incident on the Mac side."
So,,, that means the printer "works" (prints) on the Mac or the installer just worked? Make sure the Printer actually prints in the Mac side as you may have a dead USB port on the Printer. It happens.
If your HP works fine (prints) in the Apple environment you know it's not the USB ports on either the printer or the computer.
You said you already downloaded the newer versions, have you tried using the drivers on the install disk and then update them to the newer ones? Also if you haven't yet, make sure the drivers are for the 64bit version, just a thought.
That's about all my brain cells have so good luck.......

  • Strange problems with Windows 7 running on Bootcamp

Hi there. I have just installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my Macbook with Leopard. I have a few strange problems and just wanted to see if I could gain any help or see if anyone else is experiencing these problems. Apart from those, its running great :P
Main one is when I close the macbook shut, then open it back up the screen stays black, i can hear it open back up but its like it just stays in Sleep mode. I then need to hold down the power button and switch it back on.
Secondly when I use the down, up left or right arrow button to scroll down in the respective direction the cursor is moving around like it would on a word document. It will scroll down eventually but only becuase the cursor has reached the end of the page.
Thanks for your time and I really hope someone can shed some light.

Hey, I'm having this issue too, however I also get freezes while the screen is still on, or while the screen power saves, and will not resume.
The computer stays on, and warm, meaning it never powers off, nor realizes its hung-up, and the only way to get back to work is a hard shutdown and reboot.
Details are below, and x64 Win 7 MSDNAA RTM Build 7600 - 4gb of Corsair 4-4-4-12 2x2 ram.
I have already gotten the newest commercial nVidea drivers and I am running RivaTuner with appropriate settings, and I have disabled the Wired NIC, and turned off the wireless NIC power-saving settings.

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • How should I install/setup a single OS of windows 7 to run through bootcamp and parallels 7 on my new macbook pro?

I just bought a new macbook 8g ram and 750g harddrive and want to be able to run windows 7 through bootcamp and parallels. How do I setup that up and install a single version of windows (want to be able to utilize heavy programs - photoshop, 3D modeling CAD etc. - by installing them once and being able to use them through parallels 7 or bootcamp)? Please let me know of anything that may red flag by doing this and clear concise instructions of which to do first/ settings for bootcamp and parallels

BootCamp is directly booting your computer into Windows for full hardware access and performance, just like a PC. It's free from Apple.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Virtual machine software (paid) like Parallels and VMFusion both can take the Bootcamped Windows and make a copy for use in OS X in a window at the same time as using OS X, but less performance. It's usualyl easiler to use.
A free virtual machine option is VirtualBox, but it might not have all the bells and whistles of the payware options above, but works just  fine.
We can't provide detailed installation instructions, it's too much, you will have to read Apple's instructions and the manual for your virtual machine software.

I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
    1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
    2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
    under Input highlight microphone.
    3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
    (Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.
If you get stock post back

  • Mac Pro Running Windows XP in Bootcamp with AIM 6.5 Can't Connect to iChat

I'm running Windows XP on my Mac Pro under Bootcamp. The Windows firewall is turned off (I'm running McAfee, and using it's firewall).
I am trying to talk to a friend who is using iChat on a Mac - I am using AIM 6.5 on my Mac running Windows. The connection fails as soon as iChat attempts to answer.
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Bootcamp 1.4 (beta)
    Windows XP
    McAfee 7.2
    iChat 3.1.8
    Airport Express
I have set up McAfee to allow TCP and UDP connections over ports 2869 (TCP) and 1900 (UDP).
I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.
I have also tried to doing this under my Mac OS X bootup running PARALLELS. This worked once, but I have not been able to repeat it (McAfee was running when it worked).
iChat works great on my Mac under OS X. This is only a problem in Windows XP under Bootcamp.
I cannot connect to appleu3test01 either (under Bootcamp with XP). I can connect to appleu3test01 no problem running iChat on my Mac.
Might this be a Bootcamp related problem? Can anyone else test this for me (i.e. can someone try to use AIM 6.5 from Windows XP under Bootcamp)???
    Thanks!

    Hi Ralph,
{quote}If the Firewall was On I would ask if you had set it up as an Exception
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html#_Service{quote}
Yes, this is what I meant by,
    {quote}I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.{quote}
I've noticed that you've posted solutions frequently in this forum. I read your posts, and visited your website. Its great information ... thanks for posting it! However, it didn't help me to resolve this particular problem.
    You asked,
    {quote}The question now becomes have you allowed it through McAfee ?{quote}
I tried resolving the problem with McAfee "ON" and "OFF". When it was "OFF" I Set the Windows firewall up per your instructions. Unfortunately, it didn't help. And yes, this includes setting up the "exceptions."
I don't think the problem is with McAfee.
    You stated,
    {quote}Having said that and seeing you have tried combos around this issue I would have to point out the AIM site says AIM 6.5 will only Video with other AIM applications. It has been reported here though that it does work with iChat{quote}
Yes, I have read that AIM 6.5 will communicate with iChat on several forums. Lots of people appear to have this working. I wish to use iChat on my Mac to communicate with friends running Windows XP (or Vista) using AIM 6.5. I like iChat.
    Finally, you asked,
    {quote}Next I would have to ask if the modem or router is allowing the AIM application ?{quote}
This is a very good question. I have not been able to test this. I couldn't find an AIM "test" address to use (like Apple's appleu3test01). Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help Ralph. This configuration is a little bit unusual, but it should work. I think the problem might be with the AIM configuration as you've suggested. I will continue to troubleshoot and report any findings here.

I have an imac bought late 2013, can i use it as a display for the new mac pro running windows 8 through bootcamp?

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.

  • My mac mini (2011) is only downloading at 100mbps running Mountain Lion, but 200 mbps when running Windows 7 on bootcamp.  Why?

I've upgraded my internet to a shaw 250 Mbps plan.  Using their speed test I'm getting over 200 Mbps on this mini, running windows 7 on bootcamp.
When running moutain lion, I'm getting exacty 100 mbps.  solid, looks like it's being limited.
Network utility app shows link speed of 1Gbit/s zero errors or collisions.
Network is cable modem wired into airport extreme (5th generation), then wired to the mini; all cables cat6.
Is there something in Mountain Lion that limits the ethernet bandwidth to 100 Mbps?
And how do I turn it off so I can get the 200+ the hardware can clearly do?
    Thanks

    oh, btw.
I get exactly the same max download speed of 100 (102.?) Mbit/s using wireless; which shows as a 450 Mbit/s link speed.
So I seem to have the same limit to all my network connections.

I am running Windows 7 via bootcamp but cannot update to either 3.1 or 3.2. My MAC OS is 10.6.8.

Then tried Boot Camp 3.1. Error message indicated I need Boot Camp 3.0 first
Then tried Boot Camp 3.0. Would not allow download.
I know the OSX came with Boot Camp why is there a problem????!!

3.0 is on your OS X DVD. Clearly spelled out in the guide in Boot Camp Assistant, and here -
www.apple.com/support/bootcamp : manuals, look for 10.6 pdf version.
3.0 is pre-requisite for any other
OS X comes with Boot Camp Assistant and you access 3.0 drivers while in Windows.

  • Battery life running Windows 7 under Bootcamp/Parallels 9

I'm contemplating buying one of the new 15" MacBook pros, the fully loaded one with the built in Nvidia graphics, and will want to put windows 7 on it. Assuming I can get bootcamp to work (seems like quite a few people are having issues right now!), I like the idea of doing so, and then accessing it through parallels 9 most of the time. However, it seems that the windows drivers only have access to the Nvidia graphics, and cannot switch to the intel graphics when the extra processing isn't needed, so when running in bootcamp mode, the battery life will suck. Will the same be true in Parallels, or given that this is emulating windows through Mavericks, will it get the full Mac control, allowing it to select intel/Nvidia graphics as it needs.
Anyone else tried this who can give me some numbers on what the battery life is likely to be in both modes?
    Thanks,
    Nick

parallel is a virtuel machine and don't have direct contact with the hardware with real drivers
it access osx generic drivers it will use the generic virtual machine driver osx provide and it will 100% be up to osx how much battery is used
the no direct hardware assess is also why you can't play games in the virutal machine as it don't use the video card at all
