Windows 7 & SCCM without DHCP

We are discussing the merits of moving forward with a Windows 7 rollout using SCCM 2007 and static IP addressing (no DHCP). Our environment is about 3500 workstations running XP and SCCM 2007 SP2. We intend to implement DHCP but don't have a target date.
We understand DHCPis required for zero touch OS deployment.
Would appreciate any MVP comments/opinions on how far the project might be able to proceed without DHCP and whether Microsoft tools can be installed (with limited functionality) like MS Application Compatability Toolkit, MS OFfice Environment Assessment
Tool, MS OFfice Migaration Planning Manager

Nothing actually requires DHCP and you will have no issues with any tools without it.
The only reason OSD is best with DHCP is two-fold:
- How else are you going to assign IP Addresses to the new systems? Doing anything manual defeats the purpose of having an
automated deployment system.
- PXE requires DHCP. There is no wiggle room on this one. PXE, as an industry/international standard, requires this -- this has nothing to do with Microsoft so please don't blame them. In lieu of PXE, you can use boot media, but PXE just makes the process
smoother.

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of an SCCM query for a collection that would list all Windows 8 machines without certain software installed?

  • OS deployment without DHCP in place. WinPE Needs DHCP?

    Hi
We have config manager 2012 R2 integrated with MDT 2013. We have few locations that doesn't have DHCP servers and have static IPs. Does it possible to refresh (TS Will run from within the OS, capture user state, stage the winPE  and reboot
the same machine, start deploying image) the machine without DHCP in place? just wondering if refresh actually maintains the static IP address in memory (variable) and can use it throughtout the deployment even when system is running in WInPE or is it mandatory
to have DHCP to assign automatic Ips to machine when its running in WinPE. Aim here is to achieve Zero touch refresh deployment.
Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks
    Regards

I never had to do it but it looks like it can be done with a little trickery

  • Yoga S1 Windows 7 SCCM

We are currently using SCCM 2007 with all the latest updates and have been using this to image all our desktop and laptops to Windows 7 now without issue.
This is the first laptop we have gotten that has dual hard drives and is causing us issues.
It has a SSD 16GB and a SATA 500GB drive.
The problem is that my OSD TS keep installing the OS onto the 16GB SSD drive.
When I run Diskpart, it shows the SSD is disk 1 and SATA is disk 0.
I set the TS to install the OS onto Disk 0 but it still installs onto the SSD drive.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Solved!

When you have two disks in a system, you really cannot rely on the disk number to target the OS deployment. This is due to the way WinPE enumerates the disks.  The physical disks will not always get the same number.  You may boot into WinPE and diskpart will label one as 0 and the other as 1; and then on the next boot into WinPE it will be reversed.
What most people have success with is incorporating a diskpart clean action on all drives at the beginning of the task sequence.  This seems to force the scripts down a path of selecting the largest physical disk to install the OS on instead of picking the first available volume that is large enough to install the OS on.
You can find numerous examples on the internet of incorporating a diskpart script in your task sequence.

How do I play a video in full-screen mode on one screen of a dual-screen Windows 7 system without blanking out the other screen?  Not losing the other screen would be useful as I would like to, for example, monitor my emails whilst watching a video or to work on a project whilst watching an instructional video.
Note : Resizing a window to fill the screen is not acceptable as it still leaves unsightly borders.

Whatever you read was incorrect. You can upgrade directly to Mavericks. It is in the App Store and is free.
Snow Leopard predates the operating system you already have. That's the reason it will not install on your MacBook Air. You spent $20 needlessly for it, but it's yours to resell if you wish.

I need to add a secondary hard drive to my time capsule. Can something that has been set up for a windows machine work without re-formatting?

In addition to Niel's comments, if you plan to use Time Machine to backup a Mac to the secondary drive.....that application needs a drive that has been specifically formattted for Mac.  That would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
PCs can also read and write to the Mac formatted drive.

  • How do I install windows using BootCamp without cd drive fot the new MBP?

I need some softwares for my work (modelsim, altera, ltspices etc) but some of them only supports windows.
New MBP doesnt seem to have a cd driver.
How do I install windows using bootcamp without cd drivers?

You can use a USB thumbdrive to do this, assuming you have access to a windows machine to format the usb stick.
I installed Win7 on my MB Air (2011), which of course lacks a DVD drive altogether, using this technique.
Basically, you download a tool called rEFIt to your macbook. ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/refit/files/rEFIt/0.14/rEFIt-0.14.dmg/download ) When this is installed, it gives you a boot selector menu when you boot the Macbook ('Do you want to boot to MacOS or to the USB drive?')
Then you download and run an Apple tool called Boot Camp Assistant, which allows you to partition your HD for the two operating systems to share; it also pulls down all the windows drivers you need.
Then prep the USB thumbdrive on a windows machine to be a Win7 installer disk. You'll want a drive in the 4gb+ range I think. You have to set up the thumbdrive to be bootable (lots of tools for that available), and then copy all the windows installation files over to it.
Put the thumbdrive in the macbook and boot holding down the option key.
Choose the rEFIt icon on boot, then choose to boot from the thumbdrive, then format your new windows partition to something Win7 can handle, and install windows.
On my machine I followed a slightly more involved process and wiped out MacOS entirely. I would have kept it on a small partition if I'd had a bigger hard drive.
If you need super detailed instructions, CNET has some here:

Tech-Recipes has some similar instructions here:

  • How to distribute my windows phone 8 app and windows store app without publishing in the store

How to distribute my windows phone 8 app and windows store app without publishing in the store
any business license or enterprise license needed..
I am a windows developer talking behalf of my company i.e  wipro
I have a question about the enterprise license   and  we are building an app for the limited users i.e our company employees and users and we do not want to publish in the store
    How to release the app?
    what are licenses etc needed?

    Hi,
for developers distributing apps without Publishing in the Store, the sideloding Enterprise key license through volume licensing is required.
Starting May 1, 2014, customers who want to enable sideloading will be able to purchase an Enterprise Sideloading key for $100 through the Open License program.
An unlimited number of devices can be enabled for sideloading using this key.

  • Can we create graphic and text in the same window of smartform without using template?

we create graphic and text in the same window of smartform without using template?

    Hi Kinjal,
as far as i understand you are talking about a template which you can partitioned and in one part you wants to show your graphics and in other part you wants to print your text, the border of template shall remain invisible.
If you wants to do it without using a template, you can do it as sujjested by Susmitha, but creating a template will provide you more flexibility that if you wants to change the attributes in future you can do it easily.

  • Testing moving to new Windows Server 2008 R2 DHCP Server.

    HI all,
I want to bring up a new DCHP server on an existing Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller.  The current DHCP server is a Windows 2003 Domain Controller.  I have moved all the FSMO Roles to the new 2008 R2 domain controller
with the plan to eventually demote the 2003 server and take it off the network. I have the dhcp role installed on the new Windows Server 2008 R2 and have duplicated the exact settings (reservations, scope, etc.) from the old windows 2003 server
on the new 2008 R2 server.  My plan was simply to disable the dhcp service on the old windows server 2003 and then authorize the new Windows Server 2008 R2 DHCP Server.  However, after reading several articles, I understand that once you authorize
a new dhcp server, the old dhcp sever is unauthorized.  I also read where several people had major issues with the new dhcp server not handing out IP Addresses even though the new dhcp server was authorized successfully.  Since this is
a production network, I would like to employ the correct method to bring up the new dhcp server.  Also, if there is a problem, is there an easy way to go back to the original dhcp server?  Thanks for your help.
    FD
    Bob Andres

You can authorize multiple DHCP servers on a network.
You can activate and deactivate different scopes independently. So you can test DHCP functionality with a test scope.
Also, you can stop the old server in many ways that allow it to be online very rapidly: stop the dhcp server service, deactivate the scopes and yes even de-authorize the server.
My advice would be to built a test so you are confident (=very important) and not to fear the final onlining too much. DHCP is no rockets science. If you've replicated the configuration and are aware of possible IP Helper configurations on your routers/switches,
it should all work out fine.
