Windows 7 "Shift iTunes" -- NO dialog box???

I am at that point where I must split my iTunes library across hard drives BUT when I follow the instructions I simply cannot get the "Create New Library" dialog box to appear. No matter what I do, iTunes just starts normally (Shift key or no Shift key).
Am I the only one in the world that doesn't get the dialog box? (Don't see anyone with the same problem in the searches I've done.)
Windows 7 Professional with current critical and important patches.
iTunes 10.1.1.4

_*How to "manually" relocate selected iTunes content to an external drive or a network share*_
1. Move your iTunes folder from the current location C:Users<User>MusiciTunes to C:iTunes. This will make subsequent operations easier.
2. Open iTunes, since the library is "missing" you will be prompted to find it, browse to C:iTunes and select the file *iTunes Library.itl*. Check that content plays properly. In the unlikely event things don't work out simply reverse step 1.
3. Open *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* and change the location of the iTunes Media folder to *X:\iTunes\iTunes Media* where X: is the drive letter of your external/networked drive. If necessary, use the *New Folder* button to create the folders iTunes and *iTunes Media*. When you close the Preferences dialog you may be prompted to move existing files to this new location. If so choose No. If iTunes displays an *Updating library* message leave it to complete.
4. Select one or more files that you want moved to the external/network store, right-click on the selection and then click on *Consolidate Files*. This will copy just these files across, but leaves behind the originals.
5. Right-click on one of the items you've just consolidated and click *Show in Windows Explorer*. Satisfy yourself that file is where it is supposed to be, then edit the address bar replacing X:<Path> with C:<Path> so that you can see the original file. Delete this, then browse to the locations of the other files from your selection and delete them also. Empty the recycle bin to recover the space.
6. When you have finished transferring files to the new location, open *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* and reset the media folder location to *C:\iTunes\iTunes Media*.
7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 any time you want to "archive" more material to your external/network drive.
<hr>
If that all sounds a little long-winded then it is. The easier way would be to have a script that simply moves selected files to their new location and tells iTunes where they now are. I have a something a bit like that, but it is currently geared up to moving files around to suit my rather specific folder structure. I could create an new version that simply tests to see if the current locations of the selected tracks begins with *X:\iTunes\iTunes Media* and relocates those that don't. No need to move the library or manually delete files. If you would be interested in such a script please let me know the drive letter for your archived files and I'll post up a link to the script.

If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

You should not show a dialog during window loaded, that's a terrible idea.
Showdialog is blocking and it'll stop the controls rendering.
WPF actually renders the controls AFTER load.
    Use content rendered instead.

Take a look at Window.Show as well.

I can't get C&P to work in iTunes or the App Store no matter what I do. My password is way too long and complicated to type in so let the updates pile up. When they reach about 50 or so, I'll go through the aggravation. Then when my contract with AT&T is up, I'll toss this phone. I have had enough of Apple's ****. It's always something. They have too much control over their buggy OS's both on the iPhone and the MacBook. People are under the impression that the OSX is way better than Windows. NOT A PRAYER IN ****.
They don't even have the choices of which OS you might have, updated on the drop down menu below.

  • Dialog box to Select Directories...

    Hi,
I need to develop a Java tool where you have an option for the customer to select a directory in which a group of files wiil be saved. To implement this, when I invoked the JFileChooser.SAVE_DIALOG and set the filter to display only directories, it opens the same Dialog to save FILES ??? (JDK Version : 1.4 OS:MS-Windows 2000). In the Dialog box. there is a Label which says "File Name: "
This is misleading and confusing to the customer, who maybe a novice when it comes to computers. Hence this issue has come up and I need to fix this. I came up with alternate solutions like popping a confirmation box etc.. but the customer doesnt want to see the default dialog box as it is very confusing.
I wish I could show you the snapshot which highlights this problem, to make the problem clear, but that is not possible.
I browsed the net with little help. Please tell me what is the best way to go about this as I have no clue of where to go from here?

I'm not going to write code for you? Is this for your
job? Do you want to get paid for something I do?
Why don't you write the code? When you find a problem
or a bug you can't resolve, then ask a question
    here.
    Please Sir,
None of the questions that I have raised here were EVER directed to you or anyone in particular. This is an open forum and if you are not willing to share your hardwork, its fine...
.....and by the way, it never should be the question of your code and my code. Its not that I cant write code for it...its just that I dont believe in re-inventing the wheel.
I know that this is a known limitation in Java and someone must have spent a lot of time and energy on this dialog...no use if everyone broke thier heads on the same problem...
...and that is the very idea behind creating such public forums....so that people communicate and share instead of re-inventing the wheel.

  • Multiple screens & Excel dialog box placement

I'm using multiple screens with my 13" Retina Macbook Pro, and what is really annoying is that Excel places it's dialog boxes in a strange location where I cannot action them or move them.
Does anyone have an idea on how to tell Excel to ignore the other displays and just show me the dialog boxes on the screen/desktop that has the application on? Going to fullscreen or moving the windows to any other displays didnt make any difference; dialog box remains the same

  • Dialog Box simulation without interrupting program flow

I'm developing data acquisition/control software and need to give the end
user flexibility to change the file to which the acquired data is being
saved during operations. In the past, users have been confused with a
simple string control that specifies the data file path, so I would prefer
to move to the popup/dialog box standard to windows. Unfortunately, calling
a dialog box results in the stoppage of program flow for the caller until
the dialog box is closed (even though there may be no apparent data flow
from the popup VI.) and stopping the program flow is not an option for this
control system (the computer is controlling pressure, temperature, flow
rates, etc of a very expensive and sensitive bit of hardware, so halting the
control function for an unknown length of time is unacceptable).
I am looking for the best way to accomplish this under LabVIEW 6i.
Using a VI class reference through VI Server, I can essentially detach the
popup window from the base program execution, spawning a separate
application and passing the relevant parameters through judicious use of
global variables. If I call the subroutine via VI server with "Wait until
done" attribute set to false, the appropriate VI appears, functions
correctly, and terminates as expected. Unfortunately, it remains visible on
the screen, an inactive application. I have the VI Properties -> Window
Appearance -> Customize -> Show Front Panel When Called and the Close
Afterwards if Originally Closed checkboxes checked on this popup VI. It
seems that calls through VI Server trigger the "Originally Open" flag, so
the window does not close as I had expected.
The way I have found to get around this problem is to use VI Server to call
an intermediate subroutine whose front panel is not displayed and whose sole
purpose it to call the subroutine that calls the dialog box. This does what
I wanted, essentially. When the user wants to change directories, they
press a button that triggers a call to VI Server to open a separate
application. This application's front panel is never displayed and only
calls a sub-VI that performs all the actual work and ends when it is
completed. As this sub-VI terminates, all visible traces of the subroutines
disappear and I'm left with just the primary program executing, continuing
to take and send control signals through this whole process.
This seems a rather cumbersome way to get a custom dialog box on the screen
without stopping the program flow of the caller, however. Is there a more
    efficient way to accomplish this?

Wouldn't it be easier to use two parallel independent while loops in the
main vi, with one taking care of acquisition and the other of user
    interaction.
When the UI loop is temporarily 'halted' because of the dialogue box poping
up, the acquiring loop continues without delay.

  • Labview runs in front of dialog box from third party .exe - cannot simulate keyboard input

    Hello,
I need to use an external software to set some parameters of an actuator. When I run this software from Labview (using System Exec.VI) it opens a screen while loading and then a dialog box. I need to select something from this dialog box (I am using a keyboard simulator). But just after the dialog box appears, Labview's window comes in front of it and then all the keyboard commands end up in the Labview's window instead of the external dialog box.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem? I have been looking aroung and I could not find a solution. I cannot use the ALT+TAB or anything like that because dialog boxes do not appear there (something of "modal" and "non-modal" windows).
I came up with a very unreliable solution by chance: If I hit (actually simulate) one key while the loading screen is on and before the dialog box appears, then the dialog box stays upfront. I think it is like telling the Labview "do not come to the front, I want to stay working in this other window". I do not trust this temporary solution at all but maybe it triggers an idea for a solution.
Please see the attached image: After I hit the RUN button, my exe is called and the "loading" screen is displayed on front. Then, the dialog box is left behind the Labview interface.
    Any ideas are welcome!!
    Thanks,
    Laura

    Hi Wayne,
I believe it is a good idea to use Portmon, I will give it a try hopefully today.
I have attached the two manuals that can be downloaded from the actuator's webpage (http://www.miraiintertech.com). Then I have attached the manual of the software (I cannot attached the software because they sell it); check on page 24: CTA-1EX, that's the software I am using.
Isn't it weird that there is little info about the dialog box thing? I would have thought that many people had this issue.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Blank file info dialog box

    Hi
I have photoshop 11.0.1 installed on windows 7 (Before I used to use Windows XP PRO SP3) and I noticed that  clicking File--->File Info just shows me a blank dialog box instead  of the actual dialog box in which I can input various file properties.  How can I fix that?
P.S. Same happens inside the Bridge and I never experienced this issue when I was on XP. Everything is fine on windows 7 except that blank dialog box in both photoshop and the bridge which is weird.

I'm an already an admin because I'm the only user of my machine. I checked the folder "XMP" in the path C:\Users\My User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe and I found it to be containing only one folder called "Metadata Templates" which is empty.
I checked my old XP installation (which I still have an image backup file for it) and I navigated to:
c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\XMP and I found it also to be indentical to my Windows 7 i.e. It still contains only the folder "Metadata Templates" and nothing under it so what might be wrong?
Is there a doucumentation on how to transfer settings correctly of photoshop under XP to the correct locations under windows 7?

  • AICS5-I cannot reflect by specifying an axis--alt-Click does not bring up dialog box

I follow the instructions below.  But when I alt-click, the dialog box does not pop up ---at least not until I give up and move my cursor off the artboard. Then the dialog box comes up, but the "preview" shows my object no where near reflected off the axis I designated???
    Reflect by specifying an axis
    Select the object to reflect.
To reflect the object around the object’s center point, choose Object > Transform > Reflect or double-click the Reflect tool .
To reflect the object around a different reference point, Alt‑click (Windows) or Option‑click (Mac OS) anywhere in the document window.
In the Reflect dialog box, select the axis across which you want the object to be reflected. You can reflect an object across a horizontal, a vertical, or an angled axis.
If the object contains patterns and you want to reflect the patterns, select Patterns. (To reflect only the patterns, deselect Objects.)
To preview the effect before you apply it, select Preview.
    Do one of the following:
To reflect the object, click OK.
To reflect a copy of the object, click Copy.
