Windows 7 SP1 Installation Issues

I am deploying SP1 for Windows 7 via Patch Management and I am running into some issues with the installation. I have the prerequisite installing prior the the service pack and that gets installed properly. The machines are rebooting after a time out period or when the user selects reboot. Upon the reboot, the service pack begins it's installation. The machines restart a couple more times during the installation, which is normal. When the service pack is complete, the computer goes to the login screen as normal and you can login without any issues. When I check to see if SP1 has been installed, it does not show in Properties of the computer and there is an error message in the EventViewer stating that Package KB976932 failed to be changed to the Installed State. Status: 0x80070490. I have my CBS.log file but i'm not sure where to look for information. We have some machines that the upgrade to SP1 is working fine and others that having this issue. Can anyone offer and input or suggestions for me to figure this out. Thanks.

I've had same problem as Rossigno :
Windows 7 SP1 installation keeps failing. Error code 800F0816. Package KB976932 is downloaded successfully but on reboot, windows doesn't start but only in Safe-mode and after System Restore. I run Windows 7 Professional. I've also run KB947821.

After tried the following:
Stopped wuauserv and crypto services, deleted the “%windir%\softwaredistribution” directory and restarted the services

then again installed SP1
Any suggestions on how I can find the cause of this?

I use Windows 7 Professional x64. I installed Readiness tool. It was completed successfuly.

When I try to install Win7 Service Pack 1 (standalone installer), I get File not found error (0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). In CBS log, I see this error entry:

I checked whether Firewall.cpl exists in SP1 or not. When SP1 installer gave error message, I didn't close SP1 window (in order to avoid cleanup). I copied
windows6.1-KB976932-X64.cab file from temporary folder which was created by SP1 installer. I extracted this cab file to new folder by 7-Zip program. I looked into this folder.
I found x86_networking-mpssvc_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_0c80f0c5176cbb85
folder that mentioned in CBS log. Firewall.cpl file didn’t exist in this folder.
Finally, I see that Firewall.cpl file doesn’t exist in required location in SP1 standalone installer
How can I solve the problem?

From the CheckSUR log, I find one error regarding atiilhag.inf has been fixed. Please run SFC and the update readiness tool again until the logs give the all clear.
From CBS log, I notice the following error message.
"Failed to open the registry root: n/a, key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\ServicePack\SPReview. er=0x2"
I suggest booting in Safe Mode and take the ownership of the registry.
1. Click Start -> type
regedit in the search box and press Enter.
2. Navigate to the following registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup]
3. Right click
Setup folder, choose permission, add everyone account into list with full permission.
4. Click
Advanced button, select the option for Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permission form this object.
After that, reboot in Safe Mode and run Standalone installer again to check the result. If the issue persists, I think the best efficient way is in-place.

SQL 2008 R2 SP1 installation issue

Hi,
I have upgraded my SQL server 2008 R2 to SP1, and the installation does not return any error message and consider successful. However during the time I configure reporting services, it display an error message below. After troubleshoot for few days,
only I found out my database engine is SP1, but my reporting service still remain as R2 version.
Anyway to repair my reporting service to SP1 or I can just rerun the SP1 installer for reporting service? I got one database running inside this server, that's why I need be extra careful with the work I do.

Windows 7 Beta installation issue- Disc not recognized??

Hello everyone, im trying to install windows 7 beta 1 x64 in boot camp.
I downloaded the beta ISO from Microsoft and checked the SHA1 checksums to make sure they're ok.
The disc burned fine in Disk utility
I get this error
"The installer disc could not be found.
Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
Its in the drive :S
Not sure if it matters, Im burning to a DVD+R, brand new. To eject it, it keeps attempting to get read, I had to run drutil tray open. Then it said I had a blank cd inserted, and asked what I wanted to do, I chose eject. The CD is readable on a windows machine fine.
The drive is fine as well, other discs work. I dont get it. The SHA1 checksums were fine, the disc burned fine in disk utility, whats wrong? is it possible that I have to rename the file to the names that Nermal was using? I shouldnt think so...
Anyone have any ideas?

The DVD's are bootable on other windows computers. Not a burning issue.
I can use my Win XP SP2 Home 32bit edition fine.
I was able to boot off my Mac OS X Dvd, so its not a read issue. Its something with the specific file or disc. I have no idea what to try next. Neither the 32bit or 64bit is even read by my computer. The more I think about it the more Im thinking its the disc itself, possibly an issue with the super drive and DVD+R? Or my Fujifilm DVD+R's? The discs sped?(up to 16x) I mean the discs are read by other computers, my computer reads like all other discs fine except this one, ***?

Here's an idea for people wanting to test Windows 7 -
Setup a VM with Sun's VirtualBox. It doesn't have a pre-configured Windows 7 profile so I used Windows 2008 64-bit.
Setup a 40GB dynamic disk, allocate memory, no need to burn DVD, it can install from the ISO.
I'm running this under Vista but should work fine in OS X version of Sun as well. If you want to try running VB with Windows 7 from XP and low on disk space, set aside an external drive with NTFS.

Windows 8.1 Installation Issue

I am upgrading my Windows 8 to the new 8.1 to my Toshiba Satellite C855.S5115.
Before the installation is complete, I get a message informing I have to uninstall two Apps: The Toshiba Disc Creator and the Microsoft Security Essentials.
At first there was an "uninstall apps" button available and I clicked. Another message shows up: We are uninstalling the apps and will let you know when the process is completed".
However, the first massage asking to uninstall the apps keeping showing up and I cannot finish the installation.
help please.

Try restart your PC and open Control Panel and in Programs and Features, uninstall these apps and then restart your PC and try install Windows 8.1 again.
Note that you have Windows Defender is Windows 8/8.1 which is replacement for Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Security Essentials is
NOT compatible with Windows 8/8.1 .

Which log did you checked, could you find the setup.etl file in %WINDIR%\Panther?
It should have $windows.~bt\Sources\Panther log file. please check it.

If problem persists, I would like to suggest you to make a clean install on other drive for test, to make sure this problem was not caused by hardware problem.
Note: before Windows installation, please backup all files on the drive which Windows 8.1 would be installed. Also make sure the hardware driver such as BIOS, Motherboard was upgrade to be latest.

Oracle 9i and windows 2003 R2 installation issues

Hi All,
I have a windows 2003 R2 server with oracle 9.2.0.8 installed both OS and DB are 32bit. The server has 12gb ram and I therefore use AWE and /PAE, however when ever the number of connections exceeds >60 memory errors start to appear and sessions crash. Has anyone out there carried out a successful install of 9i and windows 2003 R2. Can anyone help with the resolution of these issues.

I’ve just restarted the server with its full quota of 16GB of RAM and selected both boot.ini switches (/PAE and /3GB) at server startup. I then amended the dbblock_lru_latches parameter from 128 to 64. Before I even started the database I tried running ‘ipconfig /all’ at the command prompt with the following result:

R12 on Windows XP - Post Installation Issue

Folks,
I installed R12.0.3 on Windows XP machine on a VMware Worksrtation following hsawwan's instructons(thanks to hsawwan and all who contributed to that thread). Post installation checks were all successfully completed.
I logged in the first without rebooting and it gave me an error something like "the page you are trying to reach has been bookmarked...". So I rebooted the machine and now I get this error "An unhandled win32 exception occurred in FNDLIBR.exe[5640]".

You do not need to start this service; you can even change the startup type to Manual. For other manual services, do not bother yourself about it we do not need to start it up.
Sorry but could you please tell me the path to view Apache log and Event Viewer?Apache log files can be found under $LOG_HOME/ora/10.1.3/Apache directory (search for access_log* and access_log*).
Event Viewer can be accessed from Control Panel > Administrative Tools.

Windows 7 SP1 Installation Fails, Error 80004005

E_FAIL 80004005. I am running on a MacBook through BootCamp with no extra peripherals. I have tried the troubleshooter and the Upgrade Readiness Tool. The only thing I can think of is that there is an HFS+ partition (read-only) on my harddrive,
but I'm not sure how to disable it during the upgrade.

HP LaserjetPro M277dw printer and windows vista driver installation issues

I ust got the hot off the press HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 which seems to be a miraculous machine. Just one problem. When trying to download and install the printer driver it goes through the whole process and then tells you the driver will not work with this operating system.
Hmmm. It says on the HP website that this is the correct software for this machine. I have been through at least 10 HP support people up to Level 3 support and hours of online work with HP people trying to install the software. The word I get back is that it will not work with my machine. So I am wondering if I have a Windows Vista 64 bit machine, and the software says it is for that machine, but it wont load, what machine will it work with? The last person I worked with just told me I will need to get a new computer. I thought I just bought a printer that would work with my computer, and now I am told i have to buy a new one?
Any ideas on how to get the software to load? I have some functionality, such as wireless network printing that one technician was able to get to work, but no scanning. Another technician changed all the permissions for installing various programming segments to "everyone" but that didnt work either. He had it so messed up that the it would not print anymore wirelessly either. I had to restore to an earlier date after that guy got off my computer so i could at least get some functionality back.
So, without the driver, I cannot scan to this computer, and i really dont know what other good things i am missing out on because I have never experienced the correct configuration......please help if you can. I need to send the machine back within a certain time period, and I really do think it is the solution for my business, if I could get it to work......Thanks!
PS Direct connection to computer and downloading software that way does't work either.....cannot use the printer directly connected.....

HELP: Windows 7 Ultimate installation issues

Hi,
I have used BootCamp to install Windows 7 Ultimate on my MAC but after partition it goes to a blank black screen and says "No bootable device -- insert a bootable disk and press any key".
I have tried all the tricks I could find on the net like using Startup disk to select the disk but impossible, I can't select the disk. Also taking out the disk and when pressing the option key "alt key" when prompted on Macintosh HD screen putting the disk then.
Any help or ideas please?

Also, is the Windows 7 disc a bought one or a downloaded one that you burned yourself ?
If the latter, try a reburn with lowering the burn-speed to 2x

Windows Roles & Features "error" issue.

Hi,
I have a virtual server windows 2008 R2 Standard ed. it was working fine earlier. Now I had a task to install .net framework 4.5 and MSMQ on this server. When I tried to install, I found Roles & Feature option in Server manager displays "error"
and do not open. It displays error message as : Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: No signature was present in the subject. (exception from HResult: 0x800B0100).
I am not able to enable roles and Features. I have installed .net framework 4.5 but not able to install SP1 on this sever.
SP1 installation displays error and suggests to go through the Url for kb/947821.
I tried to fix the issue by using command sfc/scannow and run the tool as per link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821.
CheckSUR. log displays some mum and cat file missing as below

I tried to download these files manually and installed/extracted as suggested in the URL http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2461206
But these files are not correcting and Still Roles and Feature "error " and SP1 installation issue.
Windows updates are installed successfully.
I tried to fix the issue using command prompt using DISM but still displays the above error message, Even powershell could not enable to features.
Kindly help me to fix the issue.

Have a client with about 120 users and have 4 machines in the last 2 weeks start getting this message and then they go into a constant reboot??
This message does this quickly like it counting really fast.
Any ideas help on how to fix what is going on greatly appreciated

Unable to install windows 7 sp1

for windows 7 service pack 1 ( sp1 ) installation issues, please, take a look at this thread first.

I've met this problem and I downloaded the full SP1 off this page [http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842] and it installed without problem. Since Windows Update only downloads the parts of the service pack it thinks it needs then the full version *may* have provided something the update didn't contain. I also didn't try the update with security software disabled and neither did I do this:
Control Panel> All Control Panel Items> Windows Update>View update history and click on troubleshoot update problems
