  • How to set up WRT54GS so the wired and wireless connections both work?

I have a DSL line in to a Motorola modem.
The modem is connected to the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable.
When I connect my computers directly into the WRT54GS with an ethernet cable (there are four connection spots at the back of the box), I cannot go to the internet.  I have 3 computers plugged in, but none of them connect via Ethernet..
Is there a setting on the router so that I can use the router for both wired and wireless connectivity?
Added info: I tried to connect directly from the computer to the modem, but again, got no connectivity.  When I "chatted" with ATT, they told me the modem is set to "bridge", and that I could connect only one device.  I don't want to change this setting because I want to use the router for the wireless capability.  Besides which, I have more than one computer to connect to the internet.
How come I cannot just plug in and go?
    My firmware version is v2.07.1.
I don't know how to find out what hardware version I have.
Other info is "DirectEthernet Connection, Speed: 100.0 Mbps, Signal Strength: Excellent, Status: Connected"
Also "1394 Connection 3, Speed: 400.0 Mbps, Status: Connected"
I don't know what that's for, but thought it might prove useful to those of you who are knowledgeable about such things.
Wireless is ok, but if I'm sitting right next to the router, I'd like to connect with Ethernet and take advantage of the better speed, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

I have a new Macbook Air 2012, Apple TV 2 and I have tried wired and wireless connections both still result in stuttering during video airplay to the ATV2.
I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

I have an existing new belkin modem router which works fine with quiet a few wired and wireless products in my house. My question is if i buy a time capsule can i put it in another room and wirelessly connect it to the belkin modem router, I would then just like my macbook pro and (imac future purchase) to wirelessly back up to it???????????

Your will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the TIme Capsule to clear out the current network settings and then reconfigure it to "join" your wireless network using the AirPort Utility setup application.
To perform the Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule....
Pull the power cord from the back of the device
    Wait a few moments
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule and keep holding it an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Continue
Follow the guided setup and choose the "join" option when it appears duriing the setup
You will need to know the exact type of wireless security that the Belkin router is using to enter this information during the setup of the Belkin. Otherwise, the Time Capsule cannot join the network, and you will receive an error message after the configuration process.

  • Windows 8.1 and Wireless showing 'limited'

    Hi there,
I have a bought 2 HP Pavillion 500-152ea Desktop computers and need to connect with wireless to a router.
The computers were bought for our business and it has been a dissappointing start.
I have installed windows 8.1 and it has now caused major problems with the wireless connection.
The wireless connection is now being shown as 'limited' and no internet access is allowed.
Can you help me find a solution to this please?

I understand you are having wireless issues after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I would recommend that you restore your computer back to Windows 8 and ensure that ALL Windows Updates and HP Updates have been installed before you install Windows 8.1. I have seen this issue many times and it results in a wireless issue.
As well when you do the Windows 8.1 upgrade go into your Device Manager and disable the wireless card. After the update has been install go back and re-enable it.
You will find the latest drivers for your computer running Windows 8.1  on the HP Pavilion 500-152ea Desktop PC Drivers page as well.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • T43 and Wireless connection with ATT Uverse

Hi geeks I am new. I have prob. I was having ATT DSL  and as I switched to ATT Uverse I have problem to connect my T43 and T41 laptops to connect via wireless connection.
I have intelPro 2200bg wireless card(internal). I read the forums and tried evrything. Finally I went to Intel wireless card update driver website and downloaded a file. ONLY T43 got connected by wireless But on the taskbar the radio shows as Off. I wonder is it connected via my bluetooth or How  and how to SWitch ON the  radio on. I went and tried to switch on Wireless radio into ON mode???
Please help geeks , as I have to fix my T41 too to connect to the ATT Uverse. The ATT tech came and he too could not fix it. When I connect via Ethernet to the router  I get 11.97 Mbps speed but wireless connection is the problem. I downloaded, thinkvintage toolkit,  a software to  find interference form cordless phone, etc, etc nothing worked.
Somehow my T43 got wireless connection. Not sure will it connect again if I switch it off.
I know little that the WPA encryption needs something diff the WEP encryption. Because my both T41 & T43 was able to wirelessly connect to my DSL router/modem.
If someone of you can throw some  light it would be a great help else I may have to buy  flash drive wireless card but I dunt want to occupy my flash drives as they are occupied by webcam & external speaker. Dunt  like to put a flash drive hub.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Jas

    Update on T43:
After formatting with Windows 2000 setup disk,  when I used the IBM sent R&R disk I did not get the previously got "kernel_data_error BLUE system error screen. All 6 R&R original CDC got loaded into RAM and I am in the process of getting my system back to Factory State ( Just XP and IBM tools).
I would like to know is it OK to keep IBM Access Connection or Not ? I am kinda scared to remove it ; Also Since bought this T43 , now and then the Microsoft Windows auto updates did make my system from XP-Service pack 2  --> and a year ago it automatically installed Service pack 3 automatically.  I just thought to mention this thinking can this be a problem in making my 2200Bg wireless  to fail with Uverse ISP modem? as with the same setup/configurations the my wireless was able to connect using WEP key encryption to my previous AT&T DSL router.  And Uverse Router requires WSP encryption per AT&T.
Other thing I worried was can my uninstalling Spybot and then going to McAfee Sw would have caused anyproblem to make my Wireless go wrong with UVerse, bcoz once i had problem and the McAfee tech support remotely connected to my T43 and said my registry is messed up and they have to fix it to make the McAfee work Properly.
Later when i got Uverse an AT&T friendly tech suggested that i better switch to AVG instead of McAfee; as McAfee uses too much of ram and it makes the computer to act slow and that may looks like the internet connection speed is slow.
..Anyway  I am sharing these info to give as much I know thinking it may help people with same problem or the T$# geeks to think of solutions.
George, Now that i think i have made my load back to factory state and wanna see will the 2000 bg wireless will work or not before Windows starts its auto upgrade to Sv.Pk 3 version ( thinking any interference or glitch or something of that nature).
Also i am thinking of installing the new ThinkVintage tool; IS it OK?
If u get a chance please throw some light, would greatly appreciate.  I will give an update if Intelpro wireless adaptor 2000bg works with AT& T uverse transition ( from DSL).
Mean while George where to you suggest me to buy parts/upgrades for this T43 (like better modem, more RAM etc. as i think like eBay or craiglist may give better pricing but i am not sure is it risky or not to buy )
If nothing works this time i am thinking of buying flash drive wireless card form best buy - please advise.
Thank you George, I am not a computer  geek but i am happy that this forum exposed me to many smart  thinkpad users and trouble shooters. Please give advise whenever u feel u got some solutions.
    Thanks, again,
    Jas
P.S. soory if my replies are long; but i thought to give more info so that u can get bettter idea of the real problem or needs of mine

  • Trouble with wireless switch (rfkill) and wireless connectivity.

Hello, this is my first message in this community so please bare with me if this message should be in the newbie part; but I think it's better fitted here. Other than that, I'm glad to be here .
After quite some time in Fedora I'm coming to Arch and I must say I'm delighted, so I wanted to use it in my laptop too which was running an old version of Fedora.
The laptop is an Airis N930 (about 5 years old) with a RaLink RT2500 wireless adapter which worked well in Fedora 11 but I'm having some trouble getting it to work in Arch. The problem is that the connectivity switch in this laptop is kind of a software one: in Windows it's compulsory to have a program which came in the drivers disk so that when that button is pressed (think of it as another key in the keyboard) the wireless connectivity is turned on and the indicator led lights up.
For a Linux based system there's no such program (I think) but the behaviour seems to be different in newer and older systems (I've tried Fedora and Ubuntu recent live environments and the behaviour is the same as in Arch). In Fedora 11 it just works everything's unblocked by default, in Arch the hardware block seems to be on and I don't know of any way to unblock it:
    root@laptop ~ $ ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
    root@laptop ~ $ rfkill list
    0: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
    root@laptop ~ $ rfkill event unblock phy0
    1298671843.804446: idx 0 type 1 op 0 soft 0 hard 1
Pressing the wireless connectivity button doesn't produce any event... Does anyone know what can I try or how to remove the hard block? Could it be related to newer kernels?
Thank you very much for your time, any fixes, workarounds or ideas are welcomed.

Thank you for your tips lamegaptop. I already have linux-firmware installed and I'm using the supported kernel module for the card (it's a PCI one):
    06:01.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g (rev 01)
    Loaded modules for it:
    rt2500pci 12420 0
    rt2x00pci 3890 1 rt2500pci
    rt2x00lib 24866 2 rt2500pci,rt2x00pci

    cfg80211 120337 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211
    eeprom_93cx6 1004 1 rt2500pci
Rfkill is installed too, the output I posted in the first post belongs to the commands I entered in the Arch system. In Fedora rfkill always reports both blocks to be off.
As the Fedora system is running a 2.6.30.10 kernel I tried to run some tests using the LTS kernel (it's a 2.6.32.X right now) in the Archboot live environment, the output of "rfkill list" changed as seen below:
    $ rfkill list
    0: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no
    $ rfkill iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
    $ ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill
This behaviour was the same when running the default Arch kernel in Archboot. I'm thinking in extracting the kernel configuration from the Fedora kernel and use it to build a new one and see if it helps, although I'm not sure where the problem may be.

  • FIOS and Wireless Connection Disconnecting

I now have Verizon FIOS and only on my MacBook Pro the wireless keeps disconnecting after 5 minutes of inactivity. I tried testing connectivity on a Windows laptop and on an iPad and there are no issues.  I called VZ and they said this is an Apple Macbook issue as they ran diagnostics and all the tests and configurations were all set correctly.  Does anyone else have this issue and is there any solution?
    Thanks.

    greener wrote:
so I just got the blazing fast Fios last week and love everything about it except about 50% of the time I need to restart my laptop (which is hooked up wireless) in order to connect.  When I initially connect it shows that it is connected but cannot receive anything in a browser.  The remedy is a restart.  but I only need to do this about 50% of the time.
Interestly,  If I am having problems and cannot connect I can still receive a skype ping (but cannot browse to any pages using FF or IE)
I called tech support and they were very nice but did not solve.
    Anyone else with this?
    rg
Sounds like an issue on your laptop.  Can you ping anything outbound?  It sound like the DNS on your laptop is not connecting properly, or the network arp cache is hosed.  If you're using XP or Vista you should be able to "repair" the network connection without having to restart the laptop -- this is essentially what a restart will do for you relative to network issues without having to restart.  Right click on the network icon in the right toolbar area and select Diagnose and Repair.

  • Widgets and wireless connection

I've been noticing my wireless connection dropping whenever I'm using the widgets in Dashboard.
Actually, it doesn't lose the connection per say, it just brings transfer rates to a complete halt. As soon as I leave Dashboard, speed gradually goes back to normal.
Am I the only one out there expriencing this wacky (though minor) annoyance?
Any idea why this would be happening?
    Just wondering,
    Thanks

The process would work something like this.  I do not have an 1525 to create an exact walk through, but I will be using a 1025 which is similar to the 1525.
This process will require a wireless capable device (laptop, tablet, etc.).  Make sure to disconnect the USB cable as it will not be used for this process.
    1.  On the wireless network, connect to the printer's network.  The printer's network name should have HP in the name.  It may say something like HP-Print-model of printer or something similar.  This step is important and is necessary for the rest to work.
    2.  Now that the wireless device is connected, open a web browser.  Enter 192.168.223.1 in the address field and go to this site.  The printer's status page should load.
If the status page does not, print a network configuration page and it should have a 169.254.X.X address.  Use this address instead (only if 192.168.223.1 does not work).
The status page should look similar to this:
    3.  Click on Networking at the top to get this screen:
    4.  Click on Wireless Configuration to get this screen:
    5.  This screen is a little different that what I typically see at this point.  On most printers, there is a Wireless Setup Wizard button that can start the process of connecting to the network.  The only option for me on the 1025 was to enter the network information manually.  I suspect the 1525 will have the same screen.  If not, it should have the wireless setup wizard.
If entering manually, make sure to enter everything exactly as it is since it is case sensitive.
    6.  Once the network information is entered, click Apply.  Give it a few minutes and it should be on the network and the installation software should find it.
    Let me know what happens.

  • When I'm in Windows 7, I have wireless connection problems.

So I have an interesting problem. When I'm in Windows, I'll be online and it'll be working fine, but then the connection will have a problem. It'll still have the bars showing a connection, but it'll say that there's no internet access. If I run troubleshooting, it fixes the problem and states that the issue was "Wirelss Network Connection does not have a valid IP configuration". After this, the problem doesn't come up again until I shut down the computer. After that, the problem happens again the next time I'm on.
It only happens on the Windows side of the computer, and it only seems to happen with my home wireless connection. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the drivers or something?
    Can someone help me out?
    Here's my mac model:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP583

My Mac also does this when I'm running Windows 7 via Bootcamp. It did not do this when I was running the Windows 7 beta version. Clearly it is a Windows setting, or Windows has changed the meaning of its lid-close options.
Mine is set to "Sleep" as the lid close action in power options. So either "Sleep" is now forcing a restart, or it was set to something other than sleep (Hibernate?) before.
Also, most bizarrely to me, how long my computer is sleeping seems to affect whether it restarts. If I just close it and open it again, it works fine. If I close it and go to work, when I get back, it will go through the bootcamp restart.
If anyone knows, I'd love to hear it.

  • Broadband/internet and wireless connection problem...

Towards the end of 2101 I received an email informing me that BT would be upgrading my local line and I could expect a much improved service. Whether this 'upgrade' has been the cause of my problems or is merely coincidental I cannot say. Prior to my experience since this time I could count lost broadband in hours per year (I never had internet or wireless connection problems).
Since the end of 2010 I now regularly lose my broadband completely every six to eight weeks. 'Home Hub cannot connect to broadband.' There is a worsening loss of speed? over a period of two to four days at the end of which I need to phone BT three/four/five, etc. times until they manage to locate the problem and fix it. It is always some problem they find on the line or with their equipment.
I always mention that this is an ongoing problem. Never do they take any action to escalate the issue.
This week things have become considerably worse.
I have started to lose my internet connection now. 'Safari cannot connect to the internet'.
There are now two issues which arise concurrently.
I phoned BT, finally the operative in India (through a very poor BT wireless phone connection) changed the channel of my router for me. He mentioned something about changing the address and password. This seriously exacerbated the situation. My password is not recognised now when I am asked to reconnect by selecting a network.
The next occasion on which I lost my INTERNET connection and tried to reconnect I got the message 'Airport has the self-assigned IP address (...........) and is unable to connect to the internet.
I phoned BT to report this and was told that this indicated an adapter problem and the problem was now out of BT's hands. I Should contact Apple.
I did so. Apple said I should contact BT to change channels. I explained this had caused the problem and they were now refusing to assist me. Apple tried everything that they could think of to resolve the issue (despite not being required to do so). Eventually the only suggestion they could make as BT had refused to help was to reinstall my operating system. Extremely drastic. But I can now connect wirelessly again.
Service is still intermittent requiring constant restarts to regain connections.
BT's response to a formal complaint was more of the usual banal questions, the usual tests, the usual promises of 'something would be done'.
Their systems are not set up to make any sort of accurate diagnosis of customers' issues. They seem to have a set number of 'fixes' into which they try to fit all problems - one would assume simply to save costs - their cost saving exercises are now costing me money.
    That's all for starters.
    Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem, since BT "upgraded my broardband" my home hub looses internet connection at least twice a day and I have to power reset it. the broadband shows as connected but the internet connection is lost, if I try reconnecting it fails and only a power resetr will work. I have a temp solution by fitting a time switch to the mains adaptor and reseting it at 0200 each day. but before the upgrade the home hub had worked for years and no problems. i have also replaced the origonal home hub 1 with a home hub 2 to see if that improves the situation.
    welcome to the forum
This subject has been marked as solved by the originator and you will get more response if you start your own subject rather than continue here.
if you start your own subject just cut and paste your post and then in order to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com and post the results .
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • RE: GE60-Win7 and Wireless Connection

I have a GE60 that had Win 8 on it and I could not move to Win 8.1 as Nvdia was not intending on bring out the drivers for it so I was stuck on Win 8.
I have loaded Win 7/64bit on it now and it is running like a dream, everything is working accept the wireless connection. I have the latest drivers and I have also rolled back the drivers, I have been in to windows and tried to switch it on in various places.
I have been in to the bios and I have tried the hot keys (the hot keys are working for everything else). I have searched on Google but with no luck. When running any diagnostic on it they all say "wireless capability is switched off".
Can somebody help please as I really don't want to go back to Win 8 :(

I have tried all of the tips plus i have loaded the newer S-Bar software and i have loaded the drivers direct from Microsoft specific for the wireless chip. Nothing i do seems to switch the wireless chip on it must be something in win7 that is stopping it but i can't go back to win8 so i have put my hands in the air and bought my self a wireless dongle. Thx for all the help guys

  • Wired and Wireless Connections to OfficeJet 8620?

We have a small wired Ethernet network.  We are planning to install an HP OfficeJet 8620 multi-function printer tomorrow.  I understand that for a wired-only Ethernet network, I would just connect the OfficeJet to our router, then install the drivers on each workstation.
Unfortunately, our situation is more complicated than that.  Several people want to use wireless devices to print to the OfficeJet 8620.  We have a working wireless network in place, and the wireless devices are able to access it without problem..
All devices on the network (wired and wireless) use the same router, which has both wired Ethernet ports and wireless capability.  So, everything is on the same network, going through the same router.
From reading the 8620 documentation, it looks like you can only have a wired OR a wireless connection, but not both.  Apparently connecting a CAT-5 cable to the Ethernet port on the printer disables the wireless capability of the printer.
If that is correct, what can we do to enable both wired computers and wireless mobile devices to print to the 8620, given the network structure I have described above?
Thanks very much for any assistance you can offer.

  • Is my early 2006 iMac 32-bit or 64-bit?

I ask because Mactracker says that it's 32-bit, so does that mean that Snow Leopard would be a waste of time? I thought the whole point was that it's 64-bit, but if it runs in 32-bit mode only then I can't see the performance increase being anything
