Windows 7 Style Controls?

I recently upgraded to Labview 2013, and was hoping that NI would finally add some Windows 7 style containers and decorations to the "Silver" controls now that Microsoft is fully invested into Windows 8...but they do not appear to have done this. Any idea why? I'd like my front panels to start looking more like any other Windows 7 / web / mobile app....I mean, it's been the same old "Windows 3.1 / XP" look for years...flat uniform colors everywhere. As an example, just look at the title bar in this NI forum...it has a nice gradient to it, and a shaded border giving the impression of depth. Why can't we do this in Labview?...I think the Labview "Modern" look needs to be renamed to "Classic" and the current "Classic" style needs to be renamed to "Ancient."
Are there any truely modern open source controls that are available for download? After a quick google search I found a Windows 7 style Timestamp control...but that's all I could find...

Recommendation 1: Never Use Tabs
The problem is that while they can organize your front panel, they do nothing for your code, so block diagrams tend to become "overgrown" rather quickly. Note also that even Windows has decided that tabs weren't as good an idea as they thought they were. Outside of dialog boxes you see very few tabbed interfaces these days.
In terms of what to use you have a few options. There is a system tree control that is a part of LV that can create a nice navigation feature. In addition, there is also a different one built into Windows as an ActiveX control -- both can work well but have slightly different interfaces and capabilities.There are example that ship with LV demonstrating both.
You might also want to look at subpanels. They allow you put put the front panel of one VI on the front panel of another VI. You could create several VIs, each one of which does one specific thing and simply make the one visible that you want. Moreover, you could add new screens at will without risking breaking one of the ones you already have created.

NO java control panel in windows system control window

Hello together,
there seems to be a bug/feature (?) not allowing me to use the plugin functionality of my J2EEsdk-1_4
Situation:
Before i installed the J2EE i had an already installed java plug-in 1_4_2 working fine on
my Laptop giving my ms explorer 6.0 the Java VM needed. To avoid conflicts, i deinstalled
this plug-in, before i installed the J2EE 1_4_2. The result was disapointing.
There was NO java control panel in the windows2000 system control window after installing J2EE.
There was no corresponding registration key in the registry anymore.
Additionally there was no java related entrance to be seen anymore in the advanced internet and
security options of my ms explorer 6.0.
i have have found several trouble reports mentioned similar problems during the last months but unluckily
no solution working for me.
i did several tests with different java packages i downloaded today to get the actual versions
First:
i deinstalled the J2EE (not to get version conflicts) and installed the Java Plug-in 1.4.2 again.
This was proposed from ms explorer, when i tried to open an internet page with javaplugins included.
This plugin worked fine again. I could see and use the java panel and it enabled
my explorer to use the java plugin.
Second:
i deinstalled the Java Plugin and installed the J2sdk_1_4_2 instead.
The java plugin which is part of this package also worked fine.
Third:
i deinstalled the J2sdk_1_4_2 and installed the J2EEsdk-1_4-windows.exe.
the same misbehaviour as mentioned before. No java panel icon can be seen
in the windows system control, now registration......
as a workaround i have installed now both, the J2eesdk (i want to learn about)
and some additonal 100 MB java plug-in to enable my MS explorer to display
java applets again.
This is working fine again, but i really would prefer to have no need for two JREs.
By the way:
When i first opened the java control panel of the Plug-in and deactivated the update
mechanism , this plugin got really angry immedialtely afterwards. As a result my
laptop rebooted without coming up again. i had to initiate another hard reboot to get
windows back
i really would like to know , whats wrong me or the J2ee and i apriciate
any hint.

One thing you could do if you by all means want to have only one single copy of 1.4.2 on your system is to install standalone J2SE 1.4.2 (this will accomodate your Java console and browser plugin requirements) and then install Application Server only distribution (on the download page this is referred to as "Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8") and sample applications set ("J2EE 1.4 SDK Samples "). In this way you get full content you would get in J2EE 1.4 SDK and all the benefits of standalone J2SE 1.4.2 installation.
This is obviously more convoluted at installation time since there are 3 separate things to install, but it would seem to fit your requirements.

Need picture style control for photo and video wit...

Lumia 1020 stands for its excellent phone camera. But I am very disappointed with its JPG output. The whitle balance is always a big problem, then too much contrast and oversaturation. True, the photo is crystal sharp, but who needs a bad color photo with great sharpness?
After Lumia Black, the DNG format comes. Now I cannot shoot without it. So I just find the 1020 is really great, but the built-in processing destorys all.
I don't know about other phone camera, but just look at the iphone's. Thanks to its great overall JPG output quality, keep much more details, so people love to use post-fx apps in their phone to make good-looking photos. Then 1020 for me, I just have to live with the DNGs instead of easy sharing.
808 Pureview has all the picture style control funtion, even in video !! Down the contrast sharpness and saturation, then the semi-CineStyle is coming! Look at the 1020's video sample, it is a shame.
All I want to say is: Can you (I don't know to call Nokia or Microsoft) make some control opitions like 808 or just low down the over contrast/saturation/sharpness photo and video. I don't wanna see a such amazing sensor and lens camera like this terrible.

In very general terms, the requirements for Video will exceed those for Photoshop (PS). If you are looking at PrPro CS5, then the video card WILL make a difference, and PS CS5 now takes advantage of the video card, than before.
For PS, the minimum HDD setup would be a 2x system with physical (not partitions) HDD's. Video has more requirements in this area, and I would say that a 3x setup is the minimum. Do read Harm's linked article, as it is the best that I have ever run across.
For the PS setup, just locate the Scratch Disks for PS on your extra HDD's, the ones with your Project and PrPro Scratch Disks.

SB Audigy2 w/Vista: Creative Volume Control conflict with Windows Volume Control(sndvol.ex

Hi Everyone,
I'm running Windows Vista on a Dell Dimension 8300 with a SoundBlaster Audigy 2(WDM) card. I have a few no-mind questions about how these things all work together:
. After I installed Creative's Vista driver upgrade for the SB Audigy 2 series, I noticed that there are now two volume control icons in the system tray. One is for the Creative Volume Control. The other is the original Windows Volume Control (sndvol.exe). Should these two controls be running at the same time?
2. The Master Volume is a lot lower in Vista than it was in XP. When I let Vista pick the sound drivers the first time around, I figured the lower volume had something to do with those. So I downloaded and installed the Vista SB Audigy 2 Driver Upgrade from Creative's website. The volume is still very low, however, and I have to peak all my volume controls to hear much of anything. Does anyone have any ideas why this should be so?

Maximizing Window while Control Hidden Doesn't Behave Properly

Hi, I've run into a situation where I'm trying to take advantage of the resizing capabilities of LV8.x and I'm running into a snag I was hoping to get some help on.
Basically, when I have a (grouped) control hidden and then maximize the window and then show the control, the control is not where it should be.
I've attached an example VI.
Any ideas?

Hello,
When you are resizing your front panel, it only resizes the visible windows. I have tested this out and submitted a corrective action request (CAR #182933). If you want your panel positioned properly, I would suggest forcing the placement of the cluster by adding an event structure for a panel resize event. This will allow you to determine the coordinates of where it should be.

In windows vista control Panel won't open

in windows vista control panel icloud is there but won't open. how do i fix this? also photo stream is not working right.

Ok, I found another thread on here talking about this and in the end I had to manually delete everything in c:\program files\quicktime & in quicktime alternative and all the quicktime files and folders in c:\windows\system32
Some of those files dated back to 2003!
I reinstalled and everything is ok now.

Can I set a default finder window style?

I would like to set a default Finder window style that will affect all windows, new and old. I am able to set my default style to list, but I want to go beyond that. I want my windows to be lists, with only certain columns visible, I want the columns to be set to specific widths, and I want the windows to open as if the green button in the corner had been pressed.
In Windows it is fairly easy to set a default Explorer window style with this level of setting. Can I do it on my Mac? Some setting I am missing, or some third party program?

Just two of many that you shouldn't be worried about. These will reveal everything I know about them:
ls -al /dev/

I haven't a clue why running this is hanging up on your machine:
sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -exec rm {} \;
As for why you're you're still having issues after setting up the initial folder, I haven't a clue, since it worked here when I had an issue with it.

Set default to Classic style control/indicator

Is it possible to set default to "classic style" control/indicator so that when I create a control/indicator from the block diagram, I will have a classic style control/indicator on the front panel?
Somehow, I still like the classic style control/indicator more. Many times, after I create a control/indicator from the block diagram, I have to replace the new style control/indicator with a classic style control/indicator from the front panel. It can be done, but it would be nice if I can create what I want from the block diagram directly.

Well, to manually place a classic control, you would just go to the classic palette, no settings needed.
Have you read the detailed help for this option? Maybe it's not exactly what you think it is.

Windows 7 Control Panel won't uninstall Adobe Drive CS4

As I am now running Adobe CS6, I attempted to use the 'Uninstall or change a program' facility in the Windows 7 Control Panel to remove an entry labelled 'Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium'. In fact, all that currently remains under that heading is Adobe Drive CS4. The Uninstall process for Adobe Drive CS4 appears to be working but then ends with the following message.

However, nothing is shown below that message except an Exit button. The uninstall process has no effect no matter how many times it is run.
Any suggestions on how to fix this or which disk locations are relevant for a manual deletion?

Creative Cloud help says to uninstall CC apps on a Windows PC to do the following:
Open the Window Control Panel > Programs and Features
Choose an app and click Uninstall/Change
Follow on-screen instructions
This information is NOT correct. Programs and Features does not contain all versions of Adobe software installed via Creative Cloud Desktop. It only shows the most current installation. Photoshop is a great example of why this is so. I currently have five versions of Photoshop installed through my Creative Cloud subscription. Windows has difficulty knowing which version to start, much less which to uninstall because the executable file for each version uses the same name--Photoshop.exe. In terms of designating which file types should be opened by which programs, the problem is equally evident. For example, setting current version Photoshop CC 2014 (version 15.1) as the program to open GIF files is not possible because Windows shows it's already done that with the designated program being Photoshop.exe. Of course, all other versions of Photoshop executable files use the name Photoshop.exe. So, it's not surprising that Windows is confused. But that does not help the rest of us.
The original questioner asked how they could get Windows Programs and Features to list CC applications. I don't think that's possible given the way Adobe has configured and named the executable files that Windows relies on. So, I'd add a question for Adobe: How do I uninstall versions of Photoshop and other CC applications that I no longer use. Programs and Features cannot help me--the programs simply are not listed. So, how does Adobe envision users uninstalling CC apps that don't appear in Programs and Features?

Can't export to AIR with Windows Style as Custom Chrome (transparent)

I can export to AIR with Xcelsius SP1 and FP1 as long as the Windows Style is set to either System Chrome or Custom Chrome (Opaque). However, if I choose Custom Chrome (transparent), it does not generate the AIR file but also does not create an error.
I had the network connectivity issue talked about in other threads so I could not export at all before but resolved that by taking my laptop home and exporting here. Now it works except for exporting to transparent.
Versions installed with correct paths:
FLEX SDK: 3.2
JRE: 1.6.0_07
AIR: 1.5

I'm also beginning to have this issue but it's new to me as I had to set up a new machine today. It has Xcelsius '08 SP1/FP1, Flex SDK 3.3 and J2RE 1.4.2.19. I've previously been able to export using the Custom chrome (transparent) option but I haven't been able to make a thorough examination of the two machines. One major difference is that the machine having the issue is a VM while the other is not. I did a little digging around and found this post on another forum. By the date on the post, this is a rather old problem.

Post subject: XCelsius 2008 - Exporting to AIR Hi, I just wanted to share a problem we've experienced when exporting our Xcelsius dashboards to Adobe AIR.
These are the symptoms: when exporting to air format, Xcelsius doesn't generate the .air package. We can see that Xcelsius generates some temporary files (swf, xml, tmp) but then deletes the files and does nothing.
To validate if the problem was on Xcelsius or on the AIR SDK we tried to manually generate the .air package by using the AIR SDK and the adt command, and received this error message:
"Could not generate timestamp: Connection timed out: connect"
One of the steps AIR SDK follows when generating an .air package is to contact a time-stamp server. If the AIR SDK fails to contact the tsa, no package will be generated and an error message similar to this one will be sent.
To validate if this was the cause of the problem, we executed adt and added the -tsa none (to skip the time-stamp validation) and everything seems to work. Unfortunately we can't add this setting when exporting from Xcelsius 2008.
We are connecting to the internet using a proxy server.
If we try to export while connected to another network (no proxy) the export is executed with no problems.
Although we've changed our JRE settings to use the company's proxy we still can't Export to AIR while connected to this network.
Any ideas of how we could fix this?
It would be nice if Xcelsius could display an error message when experiencing problems with the AIR SDK instead of doing nothing at all.
I have not yet been able to verify the above information but maybe it will help you guys. If you need more information from me, let me know. I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow and will post any results I find. I really really need this option to work.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Cannot login from Windows iCloud control panel, but that not all...

I set up my Apple Id and downloaded the Windows iCloud control panel, but when I try to sign in from my PCI get this message: "You can't sign in because of a server error." But when I check the status of icloud everything is operational. But if I go to the icloud page directly, I can sign in normally. The reason this is an issue is that I cannot setup icloud on my computer properly and with all of the options I want without signing in from the icloud control panel. This really bites, and any help would be appreciated immensly.

Have had some success with multiple computers running Windows 7, Vista, and Windows Server 2008 doing the following with iCloud Control Panel 3.1 (combination of several different remedies posted in forum):
Sign out of iCloud Control Panel
Open Task Manager and End all Apple iCloud and Photostream processes
Delete the files from the Directory C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Mediastream
Open iCloud Control Panel and sign in with apple ID
If Photo option is still greyed out, sign out and sign back in with iCloud email address and password.
This has worked for seven users that I support across several different windows hardware platforms. Good luck!

Safari displays button ... /button in Windows style

I am adding a new button to a web page. Up to now I have used <form><input type=button ...></form> out of habit, which works perfectly well. Today I thought I should try <button ...></button> as being a bit shorter, and in any case this is not really a form.
However, Safari 2.0.3 chooses to display this as a rectangular Windows-style button, rather than the normal OS X button. Using Netscape under Windows XP things look consistent.
How can I get Safari to use a different button style? The button works just fine when I click it, but I want style consistency here - thanks.

html allows a button attribute of Type - with values of Button,Reset & Submit.
Seems like safari uses a different type for form...button ( presumably the submit type?) and for plain button (likely the button type )
specifying the button type should give consistent results. Guess you can do this in a css to save adding it to every instance.

Window style popups in flash

hi all,
i wanna know if its possible in flash to develop window style
dialogs, popups, windows. And when ported to Mac, will it show the
mac style windows? Is this possible in flash? Is there any
component in flash libraries to do this for us?
If this isnt possible at all in flash, can we achieve this in
some other third party application?

Ok, this works, but not for everything. For example, I'd like to change the skin when an item in the list is in over/down mode. I should get these cell renderer skins http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/components/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9c65b32-7f41.html, but for some reason when I click on cell renderer skins for the list nothing comes up :/
Also, how can I change the list font size as there are no properties related to font?? Please help !!

VI analyzer and dialog-style control.

When using VI analyzer it comes up with an occurance that states "The control labeled "whatever" is not a dialog-style control. Because of this, its appearance will not be platform-specific." What is the significance of this message and the pros and cons of not using controls from the system pallette.

Use the controls from the System palette when you want your UI to look like standard dialog UIs in your operating system. For analyzing any other kinds of VIs (test VIs, subVIs, instrument panel VIs, palette VIs, etc.), you should deselect this VI Analyzer test to reduce the amount of "noise" in your results.
