Windows 7. Task Bar

I have my Task Bar set to Auto Hide.
When I run iTunes it makes the Task Bar always visible. After iTunes is closed the Task Bar is still always visible.
I can set the properties of the Task Bar to Auto Hide until I am blue in the face and it won't change.
The only way to fix the problem seems to reboot. Anyone have any ideas. It annoys me!

Additional observation:  The Taskbar disappears when the computer goes to sleep or hibernates.  Upon waking it , the desktop reappears minus the Taskbar.  No known methods to reinstate theTaskbar seems to work.  As a workaround, I have lengthened the time  before the computer turns off the display or goes to sleep to avoid the inadvertent loss of the Taskbar.
Is this a power management issue?  Or is something causing the Taskbar to move to the background behind the screen wallpaper?  Suggestions please.

  • Closing Window in Task Bar leaves app open

    Ok so this may be a noob question but that would be because I'm a noob.
    I have an Air application which has states some of which are invisible. There is always a systray icon where the user can close the application but in windows when the state is visible there is also a task bar icon. If the user right clicks on the task bar icon they can close the visible window but the actual application is still running (although not functioning in any way). The systray icon is still there and they can right click it to close the application but they never notice it.
    This results in confusion as the application is no longer functioning but they can't resart it either.
    What is the best methodology for dealing with this?
    Much appreciated
    Phil

    I believe I've found the answer.
    autoExit="true"
    A function was setting it to false. Oops

  • I can no longer place links to websites in the FF icon on my Windows 7 task bar, as I could with Firefox 4. Is it still possible? task bar since upgrading to Firefox 4. Can it be made possible?

    With FF v.3 I could place links to oft-used websites in the right-click expanded Firefox icon on the task bar. It appears that Firefox v. 4 no longer provides for that feature. Can it be done some other way? Otherwise I have to open my FF homepage and click on a toolbar bookmark for the website.

    >> Did you check what happens if you set the Task bar to be always visible?
    No, because I do not want my Task bar to always be visible. I want it to auto-hide.
    Firefox *is* maximized when this occurs. However, "maximized" window does not mean "cover up task bar", which is what FF is doing. I can maximize any of my other applications and still access the task bar as expected. For those applications, I did not have to hunt for special configuration files or anything else, because they are following what appears to be at the very least a UX best practice for Windows 7.
    I definitely appreciate your taking the time to share the information that you have shared, and I have no doubt that your suggestions work as you have outlined. However, I'm seeking a user experience with FF in which I do not have to treat it differently than other applications in order to view my Windows task bar when its window is maximized. And I can view the taskbar with FF maximized, *sometimes*. Other times, it stops appearing indefinitely, across multiple sessions/shutdowns/etc.
    (FYI, right now, I have FF maximized, and am able to view the Task bar, so I'm not currently experiencing this issue. I do not recall doing anything special to make it work.)
    Again, I appreciate your taking the time to answer, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear. :)

  • How do i get firefox windows to show as discrete icons on windows 8 task bar

    On my windows xp computers each firefox window is displayed as a discrete icon on the task bar, enabling me to jump quickly from one to another just with one click. On my windows 8 computer they display as like a deck of cards, and to change from one to another, one has to hover the mouse over the stack until a preview appears, then move the mouse to the correct one, then click it on. This is annoying and giving me RSI of the wrist. Is there a way to get the icons to display as they do on XP. Oh, and Mozilla, can you please fore the person responsible for making these bad changes, of which this is just one example.

    I'm really sorry, but you're blaming the wrong guys. Windows 8's interface is just designed that way. If you'll notice, for example: you can't have multiple Microsoft PowerPoint icons, just a "deck of cards".
    Mozilla can't just come in and mess with the OS, so the "deck of cards" is about the best they can do.
    However, I can recommend a little trick that'll make life just a bit easier.
    Instead of hovering your cursor over the Firefox icon on the taskbar, <b>click</b> it. The preview will display immediately. After doing this, you actually have more options:
    <ol>
    <li>Use the mouse to select the desired window.</li>
    <li>Use the arrow keys to select the desired window.</li>
    </ol>
    Cool! It won't be the same as Windows XP, but at least you can have the peace-of-mind that support for your OS won't be discontinued in the near future.

  • Windows XP Task Bar Locking Up

    I recently upgraded my Satellite Pro 6100 laptop memory from 256MB to 1GB.  Ever since I did this, when the PC returns from hibernate mode, the Windows taskbar is locked up.  I have to reboot the laptop to get things to work properly.  Anyone out there have similar experience?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Did you disable, the re-enable Hibernation after you added the memory?
    I'd recommend disabling, then restarting the machine, then enabling.
    For older machines, when hibernation wasn't built in to Windows, there was a program to run to rebuild the hibernation file, but disabling and re-enabling it should do it now.

  • How to give blinking effect to browser window in task bar from my applet

    i am doing a chat project and want to give a visual notification to the user if a new message comes and his browser window is minimised. Something that the yahoo messenger provides

    I have not yet tried to implement this, but I've heard that one can access the windows system try by sending a message from a javascript. I don't know about the security implications. I'll bet a signed applet is required.

  • When i upgrade to the next version of firefox, all of the web sites i had pinned to firefox on the Windows 7 task bar disappear

    I accept the offer to upgrade to the next version of Firefox

    Did you check your security software (firewall)?
    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • Windows task bar not appearing while in itunes full screen

    My Window 7 task bar does not appear while in itunes full screen after updating to itunes 10.5.  I checked that it functions correctly with all of my other programs and it used to work fine in previous versions of itunes.  It is frustrating when I am trying to check battery power, access my wi-fi hard drive, etc. I have been pressing the windows button to pull up the start menu then I can see whaat I need but this seems to be only a work around.  Is there some sort of a check box or something I may have missed in itunes? Does anyone else have this issue?

    If it worked OK in the test library give this a try:
    Starting over from scratch with new library
    Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
    This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
    Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

    Only JFrames in the taskbar. If you are using 1.4, you can use a JFrame and use setUndecorated(). It looks a lot like a JWindow.

  • How to block task bar notification for a specific program?

    Hello all.  We are rolling out a new web based program that uses a thin client.  This thin client checks the server on a regular interval.  If it finds a new version of the thin client, there is an alert in the Windows 7 task bar.
    The problem with this is it prompts them to install it.  But as our users do not have Admin rights, it will fail.  Is there a way (GPO perhaps, registry key?) to block just this notification?  We do not want to disable all notifications.
    We are running Windows 7 SP1 (with a few XP pcs) and Windows 2008 R2 domain level.

    Hi,
    This new version installation is pushed by server, such as SCCM. How does it dispatch this update in your domain?
    To block this notification, you can configure this setting on server. As for me, you cannot block it in thin cilent.
    To know more about how to disable notification, you can redirect to windows server forum.
    Thanks!

  • Maximized decorated JFrame covers task bar on WinXP. How to avoid?

    Hello,
    I have found that decorated JFrame covers task bar on Win XP and jdk 1.5 when maximized. I see this problem affects many users. It is annoying for most users of my applications to change window size before accessing task bar. So I have to avoid decorations, inspite the fact that I really like how decorated windows look like.
    I have read forum topic which discussed the same problem (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=709917), but it contains no solution.
    Here is sample code to reproduce the problem:
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    public class Test extends JFrame {
         public Test() {}
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
              Test frame = new Test();
              frame.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(200,200));
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }Run it on Win XP and click maximize button. You will see that maximized window covers task bar.
    Am I doing something wrong? Maybe it is possible somehow to correct this behaviour programmatically or at least any workaround exists?
    Regards,
    Roman

    Solved the problem finally. It seems I have not read previous forum topic (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&threadID=709917) with enough attention.
    For thouse who are interested solution is following:
    import java.awt.Dimension;
    import java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    public class Test extends JFrame {
         public Test() {}
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              JFrame.setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated(true);
              Test frame = new Test();
              frame.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(200,200));
              GraphicsEnvironment env = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
              frame.setMaximizedBounds(env.getMaximumWindowBounds());
              frame.pack();
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }Regards,

  • Firefox 8.0 occasionally disappears from task bar when minimized but keeps running

    Running Firefox 8.0 on Windows XP, have 12 tabs open. Occasionally, when I minimize Firefox, it disappears from the task bar. I know that Firefox is still running because one of the open tabs is a radio station stream on Silverlight. The only way to get Firefox back is to click a link in an email then Firefox will open in a new tab (it is my default browser)

    I am guessing it is because you minimise Firefox to the Windows Xp task bar but have ot either locked that or set it to be on top so it may disappear from view.
    When the task bar is visible left click any space area on the taskbar the popup will have options including
    * '''''lock task bar''''' if you tick that the task bar stays the same size
    * '''''properties''''' if you click on that you get other options for customising the task bar

  • Firefox opens, and preview shows when hover on the task bar link, but the window will not maximize, or show up at any size on my screen (Windows 7) Help?!

    I am running Windows 7 and just updated Firefox to the 7.0 version. I can open Firefox, in the sense that I can run the application. I can see that it is open because the link shows up on my task bar, and when I hover over it I can see the thumbnail preview - which, incidentally says "You're almost there!"; but I can not open the window! I have tried clicking once on the task bar link, and once again (just in case I was clicking to minimize instead of maximize). I have tried double clicking the shortcuts on my desktop, then the one in my program files, as well as the one in my start menu, and the static one pinned to my task bar. I have tried accessing Firefox from every path available on my computer and I can open it every time, but *never* not even once have I been able to view it on my screen. I can't understand what would cause this and maybe I'm just an idiot but can anybody help me... please? Oh, and I don't know if it makes any difference, but I did try restoring 6.0 and I re installed 7.0 again, all to the same end... Many thanks to anyone willing to help me fix this!

    -> [[Software Update Failed#w_run-as-administrator|Run as Administrator]]
    -> right-click Firefox icon and choose Properties
    * go to Compatibility tab
    * click Use Resolution 640x480 pixels
    * click OK and start Firefox
    -> Firefox will now start but you should be able to change the size of the window.
    * Close Firefox and now Uncheck the 640x480 resolution
    * Start Firefox again and now all should be fine
    Check and tell if its working.

  • Firefox 4 is not appearing in Task bar or some times it is Disappearing from task bar when i am minimising the window. so, i had to go to Task manager and find the icon.Its becoming big messy if tabs are not found , to switch programmes.

    firefox icon is missing from "Task bar"when i am minimising the window

    I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
    Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
    Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
    If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
    No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site?
