Windows 7 Task Manager shows "Firefox 32" - Is there a 64 bit version?

I don't see an option on the Mozilla download page for a 64 bit version. Is there one, or is Firefox only available in a 32 bit version? Thanks...

Not really at the moment. (Assuming you are talking Windows)
Work on this speeded up recently and it may be available a bit later in the year.

  • My Firefox continues to stall a lot and Window Task Manager shows that Firefox is using a lot of memory (600,000k +) What can I do to make this stop stalling?

I play Farmville or on Pogo and my computer keeps giving me the hour glass and when I look on my Windows Task Manager it shows that I am using over 600,000 k of memory. When it does that I can't do anything unless I just use the power button to shut the computer down or use the task manager to "End Process". I do not like to do either of these so I usually just sit and wait for it to fix itself then later it does it all over again.
Also when I was doing defrag on the file type tab it showed two Mozilla Firefox so I am wondering if this is the issue but I only see one in the control panel.

  • Firefox 8.0.1 will not open. IE will not open as long as Task Manager shows firefox process is running.

Running Vista Ultimate. Yesterday Firefox stopped opening. only change to system was a new video driver for Intel 965 mobile express chipset. AOL 9.6 and IE 8 also stopped opening. When I killed the 2 firefox processes from Task Manager IE 8 opened. But AOL 9.6 is stuck at "updating locations". I tried the troubleshooting page but since most require the application to be open I was not able to try anything except restarting the computer and reinstalling after deleting the Mozilla Firefox folder.

Did you try the solution given in this article?

  • Why does Firefox use up so much memory? My Windows Task Manager shows it using 109 Meg just now asking this question. Thanks

Pretty simple: I want to know how I can keep Firefox from using so much memory when in use. 100-200 meg is common. Thank you

Hi musicfan,<br />Sorry you are having problems with Firefox. Maybe you should have asked earlier and we could have fixed it.
Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.

You should not use old versions they are insecure. Security fixes are publicised and exploitable.

Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

  • Firefox begins to start but then stops before loading any screen. Profile manager/safe mode appear then disappear. Task manager shows programs briefly in CPU then they disappear. Uninstall & reload makes no difference. Any ideas please ?

When we clicked as usual on the firefox icon the egg-timer started then went off. Nothing started up.
Checking the Task Manager showed firefox.exe briefly using the CPU then it dropped off the list.
We tried to uninstall and reload from the mozilla site (http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/). Installation seemed to work ok, but the same problem recurred when we tried to start firefox.
Did this again, this time removing bookmarks, etc. same result.
Tried to use the profile manager - the screen came up but disappeared before we could use it.
Same thing happened when we tried to start in safe mode - screen briefly appeared but then disappeared.
Tried googling in IE to solve the problem but nothing seems to apply.
Have run all security checks but no apparent bugs or problems.
Have had to abandon firefox and use another browser. How do we get it back please ?

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Recently when I'm running Firefox (I think usually during downloads) the system will hang, but allows me to close the browser (at least it appears to close -- not showing up as running in the Windows Task Manager).

But when I try to open Firefox again, I get this error message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. But I can't find any way to close Firefox. Twice, I've tried removing and reloading Firefox, but it's still happening. Any ideas how to deal with this?

Open the Windows Task Manager > '''Processes''' tab and look for '''firefox.exe'''.

  • When I close firefox I attempt to reopen, it wont load...looking in task manager shows it as a process, i need to, end the process to restart firefox, Why?

when I start firefox, then close it..and attempt to restart it, I get a message that its loaded....but its not...but I see it as a process in task manager.I end the process..then start firefox again...........constant problem...............windows 7 system...8gb ram g4bit

    Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.

  • Firefox 4 does not start but I can see Firefox.exe in Windows Task Manager, nothing in Applications

I am on Window 7/32bits machine. When I start Firefox 4 nothing loads. I looked into Windows Task Manager, I can firefox.exe in the processes but nothing in Applications.
Here are few things I have tried but didn't work for me.
    - Restarted Computer and tried to open Firefox, waited for half an hour nothing happens.
    - did 'End Process' in Windows Task Manager, Processes and tried in again
    - reinstalled into different folder and tried to run from there, still the result is same.
Is there anything else I can try to resolve this issue.

  • Firefox freezes or does not go away when closed I need to use window task manager

In Windows 7 Firefox often freezes or will not go away even if I close it.
So far the only way to resolve this issues if it last is to close it with Windows Task Manager.
Which obviously means that if I was frozen I loose any other tab that is open
