Windows 7 taskbar freezed by iTunes

Hi there, I’m using iTunes 9.0.3 on Windows 7 x64 system and I’ve encountered this problem (not sure if this is specific to x64):
When I’m running the iTunes, sometimes the Windows 7 taskbar stops working properly. It doesn’t show the thumbnails when you mouse over a running application button and second thing, when you move your mouse off the taskbar, the taskbar remains in a state such as if there was the mouse in the place where it left the taskbar. To explain it, for example when you move mouse out of a button of an application which is running, the colored tint remains on the button even when the mouse is already off the taskbar and caption (not thumbnail) appears after a while. I would say that the taskbar is a sort of freezed. The only thing I know is that it happens sometimes when the iTunes is running but I’m not sure if it’s Windows or iTunes problem.
Have anyone of you experienced this problem?? Thanks for reply.

  • Whenever I connect my iPhone 4s to my Windows 8.1 pc with iTunes 10.6.3.25, the iTunes freezes.

Whenever I connect my iPhone 4s to my Windows 8.1 pc with iTunes 10.6.3.25, the iTunes freezes and the only way to proceed is to kill the task under task manager. I have uninstalled iTunes following the recommended order and reinstalled numerous times but still freezes when I connect my iPhone. It works fine when I connect my phone to another pc (Windows 7). What else can I try?

Whenever I update iTunes it gives me the following error:
The application was unable to start correctly (0cx0000142). Click Ok to close the application.
The file in error is DifXInst64.exe.
Thanks for any more help available.

  • Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze

Itunes 10.3.1.55 update on Windows XP install freeze.
I've tried to remove everything, restart PC and try a new install.
It fails at the same point, while copying files.

I too am having a very similar problem with cover artwork in Itunes version 10.3.1.55 for my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. Certain Artists or Albums cover art will not show up and also when I try to manually add my own cover to the album it does not save. I can however, view with the coverflow option but its useless without all the cover art. I would greatly appreciate any help with fixing this very annoying problem.
I've looked into the direct x suggestions and that doesn't seem to be the problem. Thanks anyway, Polydorus.

  • IPod Classic won't Restore and FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES! Help.

    Hi. First, the specifics:
I have an iPOD Classic (120GB).
    I have Windows Vista R2 (64-bit).
I have the latest version of iTunes, yes, for 64-bit.
With that out of the way, I started seeing issues with my iPod not being able to play certain songs. I'd find the song, hit the play arrow, nothing would happen. The time would not move, song would not play. Here's what I've tried to do initially:
    Re-install iTunes, re-sync.
Still wouldn't play these songs.. Not all, but many songs.
    So, I tried to Restore.
Initially, it looked like it was restoring properly - - but took way longer than usual. Like 2 hours. At the end, I got an error "Could not sync this song, Could not sync iPod."
I looked at iPod, had to set it up, choose ENGLISH as language, etc.  Search iPod, found NO MUSIC, NO VIDEOS, etc.
    Tried simply re-syncing, wouldn't work.
So, I disconnected, restarted my computer and tried to RESTORE again.
I connect it via a USB 2.0 and the iPod cable. I have been doing this for years and years and this iPod has worked for the 3 years I have had it.
I have had iPod since their inception, so I'm not a rookie. I also have an iPhone and an iPad2.
So I connect the iPod as usual. NOW, it basically FREEZES iTunes. I CONTL-ALT-DEL and find it's always iTunes (NOT RESPONDING).
This happens EVERY TIME... I tried restarting several times, same issue.
So, I unistalled all components of iTunes > RESTART COMPUTER.
I re-download the latest version of iTunes, yes the correct one.
I tried syncing or restoring. DOESN'T RECOGNIZE iPOD, FREEZES/LOCKS iTUNES.
HERE'S OTHER THINGS I have tried:
RESTORING from DISK MODE. (DID NOT WORK, LOCKS iTUNES)
I downloaded the Windows Update for Vista that helps not corrupt iPod when disconnecting too early.
Downloaded update, did NOT help with the issue.
Un-installed iTunes again. Restarted computer. Re-installed newest version of iTunes.
ONE THING TO POINT OUT, when I connect my iPod, iTunes launches if not open and I get a WINDOWS box that says:
    MICROSOFT WINDOWS:
Do You Want To Scan And Fix Errors on Steven's iPod (L:) ??
I tried both options: YES, Try to Fix, NO - Continue
That doesn't work, and iTunes still freezes regardless of option.
Again, tried DISK MODE, tried Regular mode...
    Nothing works...
    PLEASE HELP...

Guys, if you all having the same problem as Steven, then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.
Main cause is the iPod Hardisk is dying, but if the DD report are good, then it is the USB connection timeout.
So have a go at the Disk Diagnostic first.

Since migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and upgrading to iTunes 11, the latter has frozen while syncing my devices, usually while at the “determining apps to sync” stage of the process.  If I am attempting to download app updates before attempting to sync, the problem normally occurs at the first “installing app x” stage.  In addition, the whole iTunes experience is extremely sluggish and will even freeze while searching for a track.  Everything worked fine on Windows 7.  So far, I have repaired the program several times and have checked for compatibility issues, but there is no Windows 8 option in the combo box, obtained after right-clicking the icon and selecting Properties/Compatibility.  As a result, I am unable to sync my devices. If I uninstall iTunes before re-installing, will this affect my iTunes libraries?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

After going by elimination to isolate if the problem was from (1) iTunes app, (2) my computer or (3) my old iPhone 4G, I figured out what my problem was.
    1) First I deleted & reinstalled iTunes on my Windows PC without succes, my playlist did not changed on my iPhone.
    2) I tested a successful #sync from the iMac at work.
So my conclusion is: The hard drive on my Windows PC is full and that is affecting iTunes SYNC functionalities.
So I'll do a back-up then run a "Clean Install" of my Windows OS, hoping that it will fix my SYNC problems.

Every time I start my PC it says Procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll  It also keeps freezing on Itunes and I cannot sync. Please can anyone help?

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the libmxl2.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well
In case that your OS is Windows 7 (64 bit)
    1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    2. Copy file "libxml2.dll"
    3. Open new windows explorer, to to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    4. Paste file "libxml2.dll" to the location.
    5. Reboot your computer, it should not display that message, it should be clear.

  • Music store freezes up itunes

first time here, been reading the forum to see if anyone else has the same problem i have.
i use windows xp and have a 5G video ipod. however, my problem is in the music store. for some reason, my itunes store will freeze up itunes (i'm thinking it's a quicktime error) and it forces me to go into the task manager (sometimes) to manually shut down itunes or the dreaded windows message will come up saying there was an error in itunes. i found that after i bring up itunes again that disabling the music store provides me to use itunes without it freezing up.
however, there are times where i plug in my 5G ipod and the "do not disconnect" icons flash for a few minutes until it goes to the main menu on the ipod. the computer does not recognize the ipod and does not show up in itunes.
my brother has tried fixing the problem but it keeps coming back. (keep in mind i haven't updated to the latest version of itunes. i'm still running 6.01. yay paranoia about the mini-store!)
i have tried telling the people on the applecare line what is going on and all i get is "remove your itunes and reinstall it!" and for some reason, that's not the case. someone please tell me i'm not alone or point me in the direection on how to fix this so that i can show my brother when i take in my laptop to him tomorrow. thanks!

upgraded itunes and this issue is resolved.

  • Computer freezes when iTunes is started!

I have been searching for possible solutions of this problem for a long time but still haven't found anything really helpful. This issue should probably be dealt with by crew members of the Apple tech support. I want to try help them as much as I can. So, here is the common factors of this problem. Some people, as well as me, have an external hard drive plugged in when they start iTunes. I think that's the most significant feature I noticed. There are usually no other signs of that something is wrong. Computer just freezes when iTunes starts (maybe after a few seconds). Secondly, I noticed, that if I was working on the computer for quite a long time before launching iTunes, its almost for sure thats it will freeze my comp. If I start it just after booting the comp, it may work fine for a long time, maybe even without freezing.
I am very confused with this issue and I hope the members of the support will help solve it as soon as possible. I am seriously thinking of switching to another media player because I am quite fed up.

In iTunes, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.
There should be a checkbox that says Enable disk use.  Check it and Apply the change.  It should now appear in Windows, when the iPod is connected.
NOTE:  When Disk Use is enable, you have to eject the iPod (in iTunes) before physically disconnecting it from computer.

  • Itunes just asked me to do another update yesterday. But it's still not working. when ever i try to sync music to my ipod touch it keeps saying itunes is not responding and it freezes. Itunes please fix this problem!!!!!:-(

Itunes still is not working correctly. There was a software update that i received yesterday and i figured it would fix the problem with itunes not responding, but it didn't. It's still doing the same thing. I'm getting kinda annoyed cause i use itunes as my main music player so please help me fix this software issue thanks!

    Hi Batman1981,
It sounds like you may be describing an issue where a program that monitors the Winsock protocol for Windows is conflicting with iTunes and it's related components. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides suggestions that may resolve the issue.
