Windows 7 Taskbar Large Icons

I'm having trouble getting the higher resolution icons to display in the taskbar for built applications.  The low resolution icon displays at the large size.  I have defined multiple icons with the icon editor but Windows is not choosing the higher resolution icon.  Is there a way to force Windows to use the higher resolution icon for display in the taskbar?  Thanks.

Kudos to you, B! Setting the taskbar property to "Always combine, hide labels" did the trick. Now it keeps the correct 32x32 (I'm using 256 colors) icon without switching to the upscaled 16x16 icon. Of course, if I select "Use small icons" it correctly uses the 16x16 icon. (However, I'm sure there's no way to have my installer set this taskbar property, nor should there be. So when I deploy my application, the user is most likely going to not have that option selected as it is not the default, and therefore will see the pixelated up-scaled 16x16 icon. Such is life!)
The shortcut on the desktop is 48x48, which Windows apparently scaled-down my 64x64 icon as I didn't make a 48x48 icon, and it looks fine. (Also, in Windows Explorer the icons are correct in all views.) So Windows 7 seems to up-scale or down-scale icons with little rhyme or reason!
Thanks for confirming what I saw, that the selected icon size when doing the build did not have any effect. It's just for viewing the icon. However, I thought it should because when I changed my project file then showed the * indicating that a change was made and the file needs to be saved. Even though I saved it, then next time I re-opepned the project file, it still showed the 16x16 icon selected. So that isn't saved. I experimented and found that not changing anything but clicking OK in that dialog box, makes the project file think it was changed, which resulted in the * being displayed. This was a red herring.
Do you have any idea what ssk meant when he said, "I had my default icon set to 16x16 in the build description. Changing it to a larger version cured the fuzzy icon!"?
(FYI, I'm using LabView V. 8.5.)
Thanks,
Ed

  • Can one pin all items from the bookmark toolbar to the Windows 7 Taskbar Quicklaunch icon?

Is it possible to have the favorites toolbar displayed as 'pinned favorites' on the Windows 7 Taskbar?
I know I can just drag an favorite from the Favorites Toolbar to the Firefox Quicklaunch icon,
    but it looks really ugly;
It shows the default Firefox favicon with the web address partially displayed instead of the name
I have given it on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Is there a way to preserve the favicon, and have the Favorites name displayed instead?
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Nick.

    Heloo,
    thanks for the swift reply!
That does not resolve my issue.
My bookmarks toolbar is already nice and tidy. ([https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3fLyJeN1WiBYUV2aWloVVlGWHc/edit Screenshot])
What I am talking about, is getting them the same on the '''Windows 7 Taskbar'''.
They now look like [https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B3fLyJeN1WiBRVlKT3hzQ2FLek0 this].
The example shown is the address of my GMail inbox.
I would like to have it just show "GMail inbox" for example, instead of the url it is referring to, with the GMail favicon.

  • Windows XP taskbar group icon

    I have 2 questions
I have a java web start application with multiple windows. XP's taskbar groups the icons together into a single icon. Currently its using a default icon. How do I set what that icon is?
Actually I have several jws applications (each with several windows), and XP's taskbar groups their icons together into a single icon for all the windows. How do I get XP have 1 group of icons for each application instead of grouping all the applications together?

sounds like you should be asking on the Java Web Start forums, or perhaps the XP forums.
In other words, not on the JDeveloper / Oracle forums, as your questions have nothing to do with those.

  • Large Icon in Windows 7 superbar/taskbar, how to?

    Hi people,
in windows 7 i can switch to large icons in the superbar/taskbar. How can I define this large icon in my java application? Is it the icon which I set with "setIconImage" to the frame? But this icon is only 16x16 and it looks bad after being resized to a larger size. I can set a large icon via "setIconImage", but now this icon is rescaled to 16x16 and this looks bad in my application window title... And I can't set an "ico" file via "setIconImage" which may support several sizes.
Any chance to set one icon to the frame (setIconImage) and define another icons as large icon for the superbar/taskbar?
    Thanks for your help,

    Did you try [Window#setIconImages|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Window.html#setIconImages(java.util.List)] ?

My taskbar is blank in Firefox. It simply says 'Done' in the bottom l/h side. When I go back to windows the taskbar reappears with all icons at r/h side.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • How to create a Windows 8.1 Desktop icon from the Metro/Start and/or Search Tool?

I'm a Desktop user, but often find myself needing to go to the Metro/Start and Search Tool to find programs and App(let)s in order to run them.  However, after doing this several times for many programs, I find myself wanting to create
Desktop icons to run the programs more easily.  Is there a way to do this from the Metro/Start Icon and/or Search Tool results?
If not, Microsoft, please consider adding the ability to do this.
It would be very nice if this ability supported all of the icon types shown in the Metro/Start, Search Tool, and Control Panel interfaces, e.g.: Metro Apps, Desktop Programs, Charms, and Control Panel Applets.
Currently, there is a way to pin the Metro/Start Icon to the Desktop, but the Taskbar will get very cluttered with even only a handful icons.
It would be very nice if the desktop icon created by this also supported the context options that the program/app(let) now shows as Tasks when the icon is pinned to the Desktop Taskbar.
Additionally, it would be nice if I could also simply drag a Pinned Taskbar icon onto the Desktop area, again, retaining it's Tasks as context menu options when the Desktop Taskbar icon is right clicked.
This ability would be very helpful for people needing to get to programs and App(let)s, without having to resort the Metro/Start and Search Tool, because when there are a lot of Metro/Start icons, I have well over a hundred icons, it
can be very hard to find one simply eye-balling lot.  The Search feature is much better, provided I know the name to look for and can remember it.
Finally, this ability would be very helpful, because the kinds of desktop shortcut icons that I can create using the New Shortcut option, assuming that can I find the program/App(let)'s name and path information, do not support the context options
that the icons could in Windows 7 when an icon is created while installing the program.

    Hi Howard Brown,
Thanks for your suggestions about Windows user experience. Actually, we are glad to hear more feedback
about Windows operating system so that we can improve Windows to make it be more easier to
     use.
As a suggestion for your current situation, you can use Windows Charm Bar to search Apps, it is also easy to use.

  • Windows 7 Taskbar and PSE12 Organiser

My Windows 7 taskbar does not pop-up as usual at the bottom of the screen when I have PSE 12 Organiser open full screen.  To access my desktop or other programs, I have to minimise PSE 12 organiser.
The taskbar works OK when I have PSE 12 Editor open full screen

In windows 7, if you right click any icon that is pinned to the taskbar, and then, with that program's menu displayed, left click an empty part of the taskbar and move the mouse in any direction. The taskbar (even if it is locked) will jump to the top of the screen.

    Hi
I tried but was unable to recreate the behavior you are describing.
If this is something that just started recently, you might want to try using s System Restore point to go back to a time before the behavior started.
If this does not fix the problem, try creating a new User Account, Create a user account, log on with the new account and try to recreate the behavior.
If the behavior cannot be recreated with the new user account, this may indicate that your current user account is corrupted.
If this is the case, replace the corrupted account with a new account using the instructions in the following article.

  • When I click file print on adobe reader, the print button is hidden by Windows 7 taskbar

    Hi,
When I click File then Print, it brings up the print menu, but the print button is covered by the Windows 7 taskbar, and I can't click on the print button when I scroll down to it, nor can I re-size your Print Menu Window.  I am able to print by pressing on the Enter button on my keyboard.

Try changing your screen resolution to something a bit larger.  The system requirements call for at least a 1024x768 resolution to view everything properly.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Larger icons and text, in Elem. 10

How do I get larger icons in the Options bar, and lager text in the Menu bar, In Element 10.
    I use Windows 10.

No, you're not missing anything. There is no way to change the icon/font size in the sidebar other than changing the resolution of your monitor. It's a good idea to be able to though so you might want to provide Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html.

  • Can not see all the clips in large Icon view in my bin

I arranged my clips in a bin in large Icon view but i can not see all the clips in the bin while in that mode. I see the clips when in list mode or when i drag them out of the bin into the main bin. As soon I drag them back in large icon view bin they do not show up, when going back in list view they are there.
    Any idea
Also my daughter accidently pulled the electrical plug, which turned my external hard drive off. So the media was off line. I hit reconnect the clip but the clip does not show as connected in the bin it keeps the Media offline icon but putting the clip in the viewer or time line it plays it. So the clip is reconnected
hope anybody can help with those two issues thanks

    Nick
thanks for your message it helped to show the clips. Here how I solved it. I put the clips i could not see in large Icon view, to the Project folder. Even in the project folder I was only seeing the clips with Thumbnail in list view. When i hit large Icon view the clips disappeared, and they could not have been lower down as i only have about 5 folders in the project. I then clicked arrange the clip by name and they showed up again. Like that i dragged the clip back in to its bin and it showed up. The reason for going back and forth I arranged the clips manually in the bin before and when hitting arrange by name it spread them to far apart and put the clips not in a sequence I liked.
for the second part I followed Neil's suggestion it worked.

  • ACROBAT XI Pro -EDIT TOOL SET  - POP-UP WINDOW IS TOO LARGE

    Good Day -
I've been experiencing very nagging problem since installing recent Acrobat Xi Pro uodate (on windows 7 system):
Specifically - I cannot edit/change the TOOL SET to include needed TOOLS (i.e., that were all previously in my Tool set) as the EDIT TOOL SET WINDOW (i.e., pop-up
window) is TOO LARGE and does not allow scrolling/ or moving down to SAVE  any tool sets and or tool set changes. Very frustrating as all attempts (and recommendations from reviews/support) for decreasing the size of EDIT TOOL SET WINDOW (popup) in order to save (i.e. include ANY) tools have been unsuccessful.  So for past week I've been unable to include/use any TOOLS for working in (i.e., editing/commenting etc) pdf's.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Would greatly appreciate any / all steps & recommendations for fixing.
    Thank-you!

First, make sure you are on the latest update 11.0.09. Help->check for updates should get you there.
If check for updates says that you have the latest, see if the setting: Edit->Settings->General->Basic Tools->Scale for screen resolution and try various options (you'll have to restart Acrobat with each selection)

  • How may I change the height of the menu bar to allow my large icons/buttons to maintain their size?

I recently updated from FF28 to FF31. Totally different UI, I get that. I waited to update until I could psych myself to try something different. I have the Default Australis Theme and Noia Fox Theme, which is designed with larger icons/buttons for those with visual needs. On my screen at the moment I have the title bar, menu bar, tab bar, and url/addon bar with the "hamburger" menu to the right. I placed icons in the menu bar, kept the home icon on the addon bar, and then there are the default icons in the menu popup. When I enable the Noia Fox Theme, the icons look great on the url/addon bar, even in the menu popup; clear, large, easy to see. However, the icons in the menu bar (not the menu popup) are less than half their original/intended size. So I switch to default Australis Theme, restart, and same issue, though not quite as dramatic since Default theme is smaller to begin with.
My thinking then is that there is a setting within the menu bar which resizes the icons/buttons to a small default size. Can this setting be changed to allow the icons to retain their original size (or close to it) and if so, how? I like the location of the menu bar on my screen, below the title bar, above the tab bar. Works nicely with the new The Fox Only Better addon which attaches to the tab bar and hides the url bar, a "new" feature for me and I'm liking it. I know I can get CTR with an additional bar, and I did try that. The issue then is that the additional bar appears below the tab bar and is not movable to above the tab bar and below the title bar.
At the moment, I have just the two themes, security addons added and The Fox Only Better. I've not added other appearance addons yet so as to keep potential conflicts/issues to a minimum. I've not tinkered with internal FF default settings other than to say don't track me (I think that's all I did). So to the best of my limited understanding, I've kept changes and customizations to a minimum. And yes, per your educated guess feature for questions posted, I am running Win 8.1 and FF 31.
I think I've offered enough detail so others can try to duplicate the issue. If not, let me know and I'll try to respond as soon as I can. Thanks so much for any help offered.

You can double the height of the menu bar area using a custom style rule. I couldn't immediately find an icon that would take advantage of the space so I'm not sure this will solve the problem, but you could try it.
The custom style rule could be as simple as:
    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
/* double height (from 2x to 4x the 13px base font size) */
    #toolbar-menubar{
    height:4em !important;
(Result shown in the screen shot, using the preview feature of the Stylish extension.)
You can apply custom style rules to Firefox's UI using either of these methods:
    (1) Create or edit a userChrome.css file. This article has more information: http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css
    (2) Use the Stylish extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/
Since I don't have this theme to test myself, if this doesn't work well, you might contact the theme author using the theme's support thread, which is on an independent forum: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2230157

  • In Address book print window opened too large for window.  Unable to close

Using Address book,   trying to print lables for a group, print window opened to large for window.... cannot cancel or close out.

In general, in any window presented which calls for user action, if a button is highlighted (usually in blue if the OS is in charge) then pressing Return or Enter will do the same as clicking that button.
Most of the time the highlighted button is the one which is most usable - the "Print" button in that dialog window, for example, or the "Save" button in a Save dialog window.
The keystroke Command-. (Command-periodkey) will usually invoke a "Cancel" button if such is present in a window.
