  • Intel processor bug causes Windows 2008r2 guest to blue screen

We recently purchased several B200-M3 blades with E5-2680v2 processors.  Our UCS infrastructure and blade firmware is at 2.2(1d).  ESXi hosts are at 5.5u1.
From my reading of the Release Notes, this makes the new blades vulnerable to Caveat CSCuo30572 which is a bug in the v2 processors that can cause Windows 2008R2 guests to blue screen.
VMware KB2073791 also deals with this bug
    The Intel Erratum is C135
Updating the firmware (2.2(1d) probably to fixed version 2.2(3d)) is a relatively long process in our environment.
Has anyone experienced this bug?  Do the guests blue screen at any particular time; e.g. when booting?  Are Windows 2012 guests impacted?  One of our new v2 blades was running Windows 2008R2 guests for about a week without any known problem.  It has since been taken out of production.
The Release Notes (2.2) description for CSCuo30572 is:  "Intel v2 processors no longer cause PSOD with Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 VM guests."  Should the PSOD (ESXi crash) actually be BSOD (Microsoft crash)?  Or can ESXi purple screens be caused also, crashing the entire host?
The Release Notes also indicate that the Caveat is resolved in release 2.2(2c)A.  Does the A indicate that an Infrastructure update is all that is needed?  That does not seem like it would supply the fixed microcode to the processors via BIOS.
I'm basically looking for some insight before proceeding with another FW update.  Thank you.

Yes, it refers to Infrastructure (UCS Manager, FI and IOM). You could just upgrade the infrastructure to 2.2.3d and leave your Servers at 2.2.1d

  • System crash (blue screen) during CD burn

    Hello All,
I need your advise due to serious problem with my PC. Per technical specification located in the following site CPU support: the motherboard supports 133/266 MHz FSB and Ratio 12.5.
Unfortunately, I found out that my recently purchased computer doesn’t work at such frequency(FSB=133, Ratio = 12.5), namely, all operation related to the DVD-ROM (Pioneer DVD-120) or Samsung CD-R/RW eventually caused system crash. I tryed to reinstall the OS, however it has not solved the problem. Only frequency decreasing allows to avoid the crash(blue screen of death). The proper volatages and temperature value are as follows: Vcore = 1.74V. PS_3v = 3.25V, PS_5v = 4.95V, PS_12v = 12.24V,  Tcpu = 48C, Tsys = 33C.
    Please advise,
    Thanks, Raz Noam
    Here is my configuration:
    Athlon XP 2000+
    KT4V MS6712 motherboard
    256 Mb  DDR 333 Smasung
40 Gb IDE master on IDE1
60 Gb IDE slave on IDE1
    Samsung SW 248F master
    Pioneer DVD-120 slave
    Windows XP Home Edition

System crash that I have experienced occurs only during CD Burner or DVD activities. It is very random, however I have notice that when I am burning CD (test mode only) the system crash occurs quite often. I attribute it to the fact that this mode is perhaps harder than only play. However, system crash occurs also during play mode. The crash is actualy stop mode with different error core, I mean, stop 0xd1, 0x0A, 24, 77. BTW, I dissabled autoreboot option. So far it was no problem with reboot after crash. So, I suspected some problem with mainboard, however, perhaps, that PSU can impcat as well. Unfortunately, I have no experience with PC hardware, therefore I need your advice based on rich experience. What I dare to assume that the problem rather in hardware than in SW.

  • IPhone keeps crashing blue screen

  • Thinkpad X300 with windows xp sp2 gets blue screen after standby.

We have a Thinkpad X300 (with windows xp sp2) gets blue screen after standby. I mean after you close the lid then open it. Anyone has see this kind of behave before?
    Thanks,

I have found the solution to this problem - hope you are still watching the thread.
Express install in parallels seems to be the culprit. Do a custom install instead and set your own virtual hard disk size. I set mine to 12 Gb (12000 Mb)and made it a fixed size instead of "growing" or whatever the heck parallels calls it. I also chose shared network instead of "bridged" (I read that someone else had identified this as part of the problem).
After making those changes it worked like a charm.

  • Windows crash (blue screen)

after upgrading to the latest version of iTunes (7.6.1.9) my system crashes immediately when I try to open the application. Going back to an older version everything is ok. It seems to be related to AVG antivirus software (Grisoft)AVG 7.5.516. De-installing that software fixes the problem, but of course that's no solution.
Any idea how to fix it?

Have You tied checking with Grisoft to see if there are any know issues with the latest iTunes and AVG. A bit of Googling might help in case others are having the problem. There hasn't been an epidemic of blue screens following iTunes 7.6 and AVG is widely used so it seems unlikely that it is a general probelm.
If you want to investgate this, you need to get the Windows stop message.
It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name. This is the best clue to the cause of the problem - it will often be a driver.
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
There is some general help on Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages here:

You can also use the microsoft site to look up inforation about the stop message error number.

  • Windows 7 Crash (Blue Screen) with Skype 6.18 on H...

    Hi,
I think a lot of people are having the same problem with Skype 6.18 on HP Pavilion notebooks.
Windows 7 crashes during the auto-update or installation of 6.18
After about 3-4 hours of troubleshooting the Blue Screen / service exception error (in ks.sys) I discovered that it's caused by the HP HD Webcam [Fixed] driver (version is 6.0.1113.1 released 2012-11-20 (or 20-11-2012)).
The driver is written by Sonix and is unlikely to be updated. So you have the choice of going back to an older version of Skype or disabling the webcam / driver through Device Manager. As soon as you disable the driver / device Skype will install / start - but of course you won't be able to use video during Skype calls.
Hopefully Microsoft / Skype will fix the driver incompatibility in a future release.
Skype Support - the issue is with the HP / Sonix driver - file is snp2uvc.sys
There are similar issues reported with a previous version of the HP HD Webcam driver as well (SPUVCBv_x64.sys).
Please fix it. I'd like to use video in calls again!

The best working solution at this time is to download and install Skype 6.14 and disable updates.  If you still get prompts to upgrade you can ignore them and the program should continue to function as it has not been retired as of yet.  Hopefully there will be a resolution in a future Skype update or an updated driver from HP that might resolve the issue.

  • Need to reinstall windows 7 after a blue screen crash PLEASE HELP!

I was advised by a technician that I need to have the windows 7 home premium reinstalled after I suffered a  blue screen error crash that will not allow the windows to start, it will not allow me to restore at all after trying numerous ways under the instructions of the tecnician by phone. This was a one time help by phone. I cannot afford to pay a professional for this service as I am disabled and on very limited income. I rely on this laptop so much that I am attempting to do this myself under someone's help. This laptop (HP Pavillion g6t-1b00) came with windows 7 Home prem. pre-installed so I do not have a disc (but I do have the original product key sticker)... I have no idea where to find this disc or how to do the reinstall and I desperately need someone's help asap...

The laptop came with software to make a Recovery Disc set. If you did not make it you can order a set from HP. Usually around $16 for Windows 7 media. https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/mediaOrder?cc=us&lc=en&productOid=5112032&softwareitem=659152-001 Some are reporting trouble using the ordering process. • Windows 7 Crashes (Blue Screen Of Death) As Soon As My iPhone4 Connects

Ok, so I have Windows 7 with the latest version of iTunes and the latest software version for my iPhone4, everything was working fine until just the other day, whenever I plug my iPhone into my computer, as soon as it makes that little noise when it connects, I get a blue screen of death.

  • Windows 7 installation error (Blue Screen)

I recently installed Boot Camp on my Mac Pro so that I could install Windows 7 Ultimate. I followed all the instructions. Once I get to the part where Windows is installed my Mac Pro restarts and I get a blue screen with a bunch of errors. Then my Mac Pro restarts again and I am giving the "Windows was not shut down properly message" and asks me to choose a start up option. No matter what option I choose the same thing happens over and over. Can anyone help?

Apple doesn't support Windows 7 on our MacPro1,1. There is a llst of supported Mac of all things.
To use more than 1.9GB RAM you need 64-bit which won't boot from Windows 7 DVD.,
Okay, you want to put both on one hard drive; I don't. So you need BCA which is also semi crippled.

  • Computer always crash (blue screen) while running photomerge (Photoshop CS6)

Doing a photomerge of 6 different pictures, I have a systemic blue screen crash using Photoshop CS6 extended.
There is a win32k.sys error message (page fault in non paged aread).
I tried my photomerge 5 times (once with only 2 pictures) and it always crashed!!!
    I have 32 Gb RAM and a i7 3960-X CPU + a GeForce 690 GPU.
Have you heard of such a problem?
    Thank you for your help.
    Regards,
    Alexandre DOLIQUE.

    Hi,
Thank you both Alec and Chris.
My OS is windows 7 64 bits with SP1. I ran windows update to make sure I had everything up to date. I ran an update of my graphic card driver (Nvidia).
I am still having the problem.
The weird part is: I am also having a BSOD while trying to photomerge with Photoshop CS5.1 (included in Master Collection C5.5).
I have ran applications using memory and CPU intensively (DxO treating a series of RAW) and had no BSOD.
I would agree with you Chris if I was having BSOD runing other applications or even Photoshop during another treatment than photomerge.
The fact that I am always having BSOD while runing photomerge is puzzling to the least.
I believe there were Windows 7 updated executed since I last had photomerge working.
The only thing I know now, is that photomerge is not working anymore. Everytime I tried, I had a BSOD.
    Regards,
    Alexandre DOLIQUE.

  • Windows 7 CLFS.sys Blue Screen

Yesterday I installed Visual Studio 2013 which required a reboot. Immediately after rebooting the system I got a BSOD caused by clfs.sys with error 0x50 and the following message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA. I tried LITERALLY everything I found online
(including related topics posted here) but none worked. At this point, I can't even boot to Windows. It immediately crashes on the loading logo.
So I gave up and decided to reinstall the OS. After inserting the bootable USB, I still get the same BSOD!!! I don't understand why this happens
when trying to install a clean version. This didn't make sense to me, so I used Bootable Partition Wizard and completely
wiped out and formatted my C: drive hoping it would at least let me reinstall Windows. Surprisingly that didn't help either. I still get a blue screen when booting into the installation disc.
I'm totally lost at this point. What is going on? How could this possibly happen when booting into the installation disc?? Do I have to do something with the master boot record? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    AM
Could be hardware, MBR/EUFI, a corrupt win 7 image, or many other things.  So where are you now?  Is there any bootible OS on the system?  Have you tried booting into safe mode (F8)?
If you cannot boot you have a brick.  If you are comfortable with it you may need to start pulling out hardware to see if you can it to boot in any manner, or perhaps take the HD to another computer, etc.
Should you ever get to where you can boot we need the DMP files to diagnose
We do need the actual log files (called a DMP files) as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded,
    and what was responsible.

  • Windows 2008 r2 guests blue screen on Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster with e5 2670-v2 processors

    Hello all,
We have a new hyper-v infrastructure deployed in two brand new Dell R720 Servers with 384GB of Memory and dual Intel e5 2670-v2 processors. This infrastructure is replacing an existing hyper-v 2008 R2 and all the guests are being migrated to this new cluster.
The issue we are seeing is our 2008 r2 guests blue screening ocasionally with 0x0000001a,0x0000004e or 0x00000050 bugchecks.
All this guests are configured with dynamic memory and with the integration components up to date. These same guests were running with no problems in the hyper-v 2008r2 cluster.
When searching i found this article from vmware that pretty much describes what we are facing:
    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2073791
Are you aware of the same problem with this kindd of hardware on windows 2012 r2 hyper-v?
    Thanks!

Meanwhile i found this May 2014 update on the intel specification of the CPU we are using:
CA135 Incorrect Page Translation when EPT is enabled
    Problem:
If EPT (Extended Page Tables) is enabled, then a complex sequence of internal processor events may result in unexpected page faults or use of incorrect page translations.
    Implication:
Due to this erratum a guest may crash or experience unpredictable system behavior.
    Workaround:
It is possible for the BIOS to contain a workaround for this erratum.
    Status:
For the affected steppings, see the

This affects VMware as of the today update of the article i referenced in the first post, what about hyper-v?

  • S10-3t. Help, my computer crash & blue screen almost all the time

    hello,
I have problem with my new bought S10-3t, it comes with pre-installed win 7 home premium. I am not sure if it is coming from the hardware or software, but it does crash and blue screen a lot and almost every time. Especially when I am trying to update windows (it always require me to reset it back to factory setting after did this).
Btw, I have uninstall some of the bloated software that came with the system and I also installed Norton Internet Securtiy on it. I have also done one recovery restore many times and the problem still persist. Now I am wondering either I should return it back to lenovo or keep it because I am sure its going to be a hassle to return it back

    afham_86,
Systems should be tolerant of some software changes - not know what all you have removed, how you removed it (deleting files vs uninstall) and when the problems started in relation to the changes you made it's going to be difficult to provide an easy answer.
You say you've used OKR.   Have you shutdown the system and started up with the recover button and selected the option to restore to factory state?   If it won't do this, then either the hard disk is corrupted and you are going to need service, or you have a memory or systemboard issue in which case you are going to need service.
I would recommend trying to recover completely to factory state, and failing that, to call technical support and log your case.  (save the WNxxxxx number).   If service recommends repair, you can either send it to the depot and see if they can fix it, or contact sales and arrange for a replacement.  In order to work through sales, you will need to have called service and have that service case number handy.
Sorry that you are having trouble.
