Windows 7 Ultimate - just did a clean install, what about activation?
I just did a clean installation of Windows 7 Ultimate. Prior to this installation, I had installed Adboe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended a while ago. In doing the Win 7 installation, I did not have to reformat my hard drive. The installation routine moved my prior Windows files to windows.old.
I need to reinstall Acrobat. Is there anything special I need to do in terms of activation? Will the software know that it was previously installed on this computer (which was running Windows XP at the time) and reactivate without issues? I am permitted to install Acrobat on two computers. I will eventually need to install it on my home computer, which in accordance with the license cannot be run at the same time as my office computer. May I feel confident that my reinstall on my office computer will not 'use up' the second activatioin opportunity?
Too late. You should have deactivated first. Interesting though, I thought that Win7 install from VISTA was supposed to be seamless. Maybe you were updating from XP.

So I used my orginal disks use the one that says applacations software. I had Snow Leperod
I reinstalled this with ML 10.8.1 on my system.
All came back and when I hit for updates it did for all of them:)

OsX Clean Install - What about Bootcamp??
Hello community!
I have a question. I want to install the new OSX Yosemite on my iMac (Late 2013). There is a HDD with 3TB. On this I have 2 partitions. One with Mavericks, the other one with Windows 8.1 Pro. Now I want to know, what about Bootcamp, when I make a clean install?! Do I need to install Windows Bootcamp again??

Just did a clean install, realized I lost my iPhoto album in the process...
I went to Japan 2 years ago and I took a ton of picture. It was the only album I had in iPhoto. I installed Leopard the other night and it gave me that DivX error and I couldn't fix it. So I wiped my iBook clean and it runs like a charm now. I don't miss anything else I wiped except for that iPhoto album of pictures from Japan. Is there any way to get it back?
Unfortunately not. The Leopard install has no doubt overwritten enough sectors of that disk to make a recovery incredibly difficult, if possible at all.
You may want to consider splitting your hard disk (if you only have one) into 2 partitions. Use one for the OS and another for Users to avoid losing personal data in the future due to an OS reinstall.
I've wiped disks before thinking I had everything I needed, only to discover gigabytes of stuff missing. Not a nice experience. -

I previously had a problem with my Laptop dying randomly you can read about it in the thread entitled Computer dies Randomly (Battery also dead) click to view
Before I realised the solutions, I thought that maybe my Laptop had become infected with a Virus and decided it would be prudent to do a clean install of the Windows XP operating system.
Everything went perfectly and thought a clean install was a good opportunity to download the “XP Service Pack 3” SP3 and did so, it seemed very quiet though and that’s when I realised I had no sound…
I downloaded all of the sound drivers I could find on the Lenovo site for 3000 N100 (I knew from previous experience that the “SOUNDMAX” driver is the only one that actually works with this 3000 N100) in order to install this you have to install the Realtek HD audio driver, but in order to install that you have to install some other Driver/Soft that only works with SP1 or SP2 if you try to install it with SP3 it will say that you don’t need the file as your Service pack is newer than the file you want to install, this is understandable as SP3 is not final as of yet (but it’s good to know).
My next problem was that my extra RAM was not detected, this was fixed by updating the BIOS, after installing all of the System updates, PC Doctor, everything I could find for 3000 N100 I decided to rest, I pushed the Lenovo care button and it did not work, I found a hot key driver and installed it but still the Lenovo care button does not work, previously when I pushed this button it would bring up the Lenovo menu but now it’s just a dead button, Does anyone know how to get this button working again?
I am pretty sure that everything else is working fine now, just that button not working is very annoying, is there a set routing of installs you must do to get everything working, i.e. bios 1st audio 2nd system update 3rd etc...

Go to Solution.Ok first everything works now... except the Lenovo Care button, I just posted the other stuff cause it might help other members, I have searched the forum for an anwser to this problem but there was only one anwser (suggesting to uninstall the driver restart and re-install it) and it did not result in a working Lenovo Care button...
I don't beleive the Lenovo keyboad drivers are in any way related to the Service pack 3 as they do not use the Service pack files, to back this up I also had the same problem when Service Pack 2 was installed...
The Lenovo Care button works fine on Boot up screen to access the rescue and recovery software (So the mechanics of the button are fine) but once Windows XP loads it is just a dead button, I remember it used to open up the Lenovo Care Start bar, I got it working once in the past but I can't remember what I did, I thought someone here might know the anwser... -
Did a clean install of Mavericks and need iMovie 9 back

I did a clean install of Mavericks. Obviously, I needed to re-install everything. I thought re-installing everything would be no problem but boy was I wrong. I'm one of the unlucky ones who cannot install iMovie 10. At this point, I'd like to revert back to version 9 but it's no longer offered in the App store and when I try to download it from Apple support, it says I need a prior version installed. So I am now stuck in limbo. Any suggestions on how to get back to version 9? I've lost interest in bothering trying to install v10. I just want 9 back at this point.in a way I also want imove 9 back and certainly I also had issues when installing mavericks forced imovie 10 to be installed - ie when I tried to start imovie after mavericks, it refused to start up until I install imovie 10.
Yesterday after mavericks was installed, the app store/installer/the powers that be just started downloading & installing other stuff like new iphotos, xcode, new voices I used in speech, etc. When it came to imovie's turn, it did fail to install for me, unlike the other apps which seemed to have installed fine (but I have not used yet).
Today when I tried to use imovie, the app store app got started automatically and told me I needed to update to imovie 10. The apps store just sat there for a long time saying "updating" and then after a long time a notification popped up saying the update failed (again).
Then I clicked on the "purchased" tab instead of the "updates" tab of the app store app, and it listed the apps I "purchased" of which imovie was one of them. The button on the right of that entry said "download" or some other word indicating an update was needed. I clicked on that and then imovie 10 installed fine,
I have since used imovie to produce a clip. Hope this helps you. -
Did a clean install 10.9.4. on a Apple Stock 1TB Fusion Hard Drive. When I run "diskutil list" via Terminal, everything is wrong. I have "EFI" and "apple Boot Boot OSX" in every dev/disk** Everything is out of place, How can I repair? Im willing too reformat if need be, however thats what I did in the first place. 2006 iMac running 10.4 OS. I copied files to ext. drive. Put in 10.6 disc and did a clean install (format) of 10.6. Copied data from ext. drive back to Mac. I didn't get all the files. CAN I REVERT BACK TO THE 10.4 OS SO I CAN COPY MY DATA PROPERLY?
How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

I have just made a clean instalation of Lion, with a bootable disk, and I planned to restore my files (music, photos, etc.), The installation run perfectly, but Lion doesn't find my backup files. So, I'm about to loose all of my iTunes library, work documents (I'm a lawyer!!), my kid's photos.... How can I restore my files?? Help!!
Since you seem to be using a new disk for Lion, Time Machine will consider previous backups to be for a "different" computer. Try doing a control-click or click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose "Browse Other Time Machine Disks". This should allow Time Machine to see the previous backups.
In the worst case you should be able to open those Time Machine backups and copy your documents from there to your home folder.

GGo to your Finder > Preferences and click the "General" tab. Once there check the "Hard Disks" under the "Show these items on the desktop" option.
