After running bootcamp, DVD drive is detected by Windows 8. But after installing drivers, no longer can detect. Device Manager shows that DVD drive is unplugged! Drivers in Bootcamp “removed” the DVD drive. I think there is an issue because I reinstalled Windows 8. If I don't install driver, then I have reduced functionality (no Apple keyboard, no sound etc), but once I install driver, I lose my DVD drive.

Hi, guys, I have had the exact same problem since the summer of 2010. Here's what I was able to find out.
Deleting upper/lower filters, running all those Fix Ya programs and other Microsoft crap is useless. This problem is most certainly has nothing to do with registry of any software on your computer. I took my HP 9620us to a couple of repair places and, they tried a lot of things and it appears that the root of this problem is a faulty motherboard connection. Of course, it costs about 400 bucks to fix it so I'm not sure I want to pay this kind of money.
Anyway, if somebody was able to fix it PLEASE post here to let us know. Again I am 99 per cent sure it's some piece of hardware in the motherboard.

  • HT1222 ipad apps 1 I lost all after I installed new windows and I tried to connect it between your computer and iPad, what's the solution? (Please Inbox : Bambangtjio@yahoo.o.id) Thanks

ipad apps 1 I lost all after I installed new windows and I tried to connect it between your computer and iPad, what's the solution? (Please Inbox : [email protected]) Thanks

    Hi,
Sounds like it isn't to serious. the Bluetooth connection had an error and that is that generated
    the Problem report.
When the Blackberry started to use Bluetooth the "gold standard" was using Microsoft's
"native" windows drivers. Now, every major PC company has there own version
    Thus the problem report.
There is  rather involved and lengthy procedure to check and install the correct Bluetooth drivers
in the Dell, but I really don't think you want to take that on.( Nod you head and say H*LL YES)
    Here is what I propose;
The problem report needs to be resolved or it wont go away. Read the manual, call Dell,
try apologizing to it and that you'll never never do it again, what ever it takes!
Make the best investment you can make for your Blackberry, buy a media card.
All the memory in the BB is dynamic, this facilitates the functions of the phone.
By storing media in that memory, you effect are wasting X amount for file storage.
Store all media and files on the media card, and you will have a smooth running device.
They run about $25.00usd, they are easy to install, and they also make moving your
media a snap. You will need the USB adapter that came with it, but you can get that at
    your local carrier store.
So if you agree with this I need some info.
On the Blackberry go to the options icon, click then scroll up to ABOUT.
I need your software version number, it's listed in this format: 4.x.x.xxx.
Send it back to me and I can tell you what size card you can get.
    Let me know your thoughts!
    Thanks,

I cant watch some videos on websites where i could usually watch videos before. This happened after i updated to MAC OS X 10.7.4 and a flashback malware removal tool 2 days ago. I have very little knowledge about computers so your help is very much needed n appreciated!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only Guest login created by "Find My Mac."
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • Remove Windows partition before or after upgrading to Leopord

    Hi,
I have been using boot camp beta for some time. A short time ago, the Windows partition became unusable because the partition was too small. It appears the least risky approach would be to restore the disk to a OS X only system then re-install Windows on a larger partition. I have the Leopard upgrade disk. I have also read article 306805 which involves rolling back the computer clock.
My question is would it be safer to remove the Windows partition before or after upgrading to Leopard?

Backup and reformat your drive with Leopard. Then install both. You can use Migration Assistant to restore your files and settings.

  • Windows Won't Boot after resizing partition

I am having problems with Windows not rebooting after I resized partition to reduce Mac side and increase Windows side. I do not see the BootCamp partition labelled as such while running disk utility. Upon startup, the Windows partition shows up when I boot up while pressing the ALT key. However, when I try to run Windows, it says " error loading operatig system".
I also followed instruction and went through to run gdisk successfully. Results towards the end.

You should reboot or remove the drive.
    The operation has completed successfully.

So here's what I think happened. Upon resizing the OS X volume, a 5th partition was created. When that happens, diskutil removes the hybrid MBR that's needed to activate the EFI firmware CSM (BIOS emulator) which is still presently used for booting Windows on Apple hardware. Upon removing the hybrid MBR, Windows is no longer bootable. So what you probably did was used Disk Utility to reverse what you did by deleting the extra partition. When you do this, diskutil recreates the hybrid MBR but with the wrong partition type code. It sets it to 0x0C, and therefore thinks it's FAT32, whereas it should be 0x07 for NTFS. Disk Utility will then let you run a disk check on what it erroneously thinks is a FAT32 volume, but is in fact NTFS. If any writes are done, which it appears is the case, it corrupts the NTFS file system.
So this is just yet another Bootcamp data loss story, without any warning in either documentation or Disk Utility whatsoever.
What version of OS X is this?
The easiest, but most tedious thing to do is to totally start over with everything: obliterate the entire drive with Disk Utility making 1 partition only, reinstalling OS X and files from backups, use Bootcamp Assistant to resize the OS X volume the way you really want it, reinstall Windows and restore from its backup. All of that can be done in the GUI.
You might still use the Windows install disk to run Windows startup repair. It might fix the Bootcamp volume. The remaining problem in that case is what to do with the large pile of free space, but I'll make those suggestions later once you get to that point.
If Windows startup repair can't fix the Bootcamp volume, and you don't have a backup, then you'll need to download and install testdisk, and read how to use it to try and find your data. It's an iterative process. Once that's done, while it probably won't fix it and make it bootable again, you'll have a basic backup of files. The remaining thing to do is use gdisk remove the broken Windows partition, make a new one that also includes free space you presumably wanted Windows to have, and make a new hybrid MBR adding partitions 2 3 4. Then reinstall Windows, your apps, and restore your data from backups.
So that's the gist. Ask if you have more questions.

  • Cannot get Equium L40-10X working after malware attack

    Hi, I'm new here.
Only have the Equium Laptop 1 week and it is infected with MalWare. Norton Internet Security was activated and current, but alas the worms won. It displays the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" during boot attempts. Strangely enough though the registration message of AntiVirGear v3.7 works perfectly.
I've tried to format the C: partition, run all Safe Mode options, Install Win Vista and XP, Recovery CD install, BIOS tweaks, Windows repair and of course my old friend MSDOS.
I removed the 120gb hard drive (3 partitions) and tried to pop it into my trusty modular bay so I could do as I wished as another drive, not bootable to harvest my files from the E: partition, then format the thing. But the pins are different though the drives are the same size. So basically I'm stuck with a deadish PC no fault of Toshiba, MS or anybody..
Except the programming miscreants of AntiVirGear v3.7 who will gladly release my yoke from it's chains provided I give them my credit card information (if they didn't already snatch that). If I do that it will be the beginning of "just one more purchase" and that will surely end my misery... So if anybody here can help I have the hammer and screwdriver ready.
I've been to Norton Support and they told me to try the things I already tried. And then they gave up, "contact MS". MS doesn't support OEM versions, so here I am.
Please have a think about this.
    Thanks for listening.

    Hi buddy,
    man, this sounds REALLY...REALLY strange.
    So, for better understanding:
You have malware on your system (C: drive), you want a working system? Right? But you want firstly secure some of your data?
Ok, it would be better to grab your hdd, go to the next electronic market and then buy a USB-HDD case. But first check if the pins fit (that was the suggestion to take your drive to the market to check THIS out).
Connect the USB-HDD to your another system, copy your files and then delete the WHOLE drive. The best would be to try this CD to format and repartition your drive:
    www.ubcd4win.com
Then after completely removing all partitions, you can drive your recovery and get a working system back.

I am in my last few months at university and want to buy windows for mac. After i graduate will it still work?

There is no such thing as Windows for Mac. Windows is Windows and you can install it on a Windows computer or on an Apple computer. Once installed it will work until you remove it.

  • Reinstalled windows and lost all playlists

    Hi,
I reinstalled Windows after a virus and all my files were recovered from my backup system just fine. However, when I went to the Apple Store it didn't recognize my computer. I had to log in several times. I purchased some new music, synced my ipod nano and then when I went to my music library all the music was gone except for the newly purchased songs. Same goes for the ipod.
    I panicked.
I was able to recover all the old songs but lost all my playlists.
I am not sure if I can recover the playlists. Is that part of the old Library file? What will happen to my new music if I import the old library?
    Thanks,
    S

  • New hard drive/windows ultimate

Just received my new A660 last week.  My son told me before I do anything download my new windows 7 ultimate.
Naturally it wiped out the original hard drive.  And of course I did not do a hard drive backup.  (I have a new one one its way).  This is my question.  My son says to keep the windows ultimate on and download drivers from Toshiba website because Toshiba puts a lot of unnecessary applications on.  Toshiba techs said no do not do that.
I am afraid I might miss some of the features I bought in the first place.  But I also want the Ultimate on my computer.  What a mess! Thank you in advance.

    Maybe this one?

So you probably had 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium on that machine.

I believe the best way to put Windows 7 Ultimate on there is to first restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media and then upgrade. It's far easier and you're less apt to run into difficulties using the original build. You can uninstall crapware.
I did not do a hard drive backup.  (I have a new one one its way).
I take that to mean you will soon be able to restore from recovery discs that are on order.
After that, take advantage of Windows Anytime Upgrade to upgrade to Ultimate.

My iphone was lost and was sent to lost mode after some days I found my iphone but it was disable. And now I'm not able to activate my phone. it doesn't accept the Apple ID that I used to put my phone in lost mode. How can I activate my iphone now?

    Hi Krisunita,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try using these steps to stop Lost Mode from iCloud.com:
Stop Lost Mode or change your contact info
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device that’s in Lost Mode.
Click Lost Mode, then change the information or click Stop Lost Mode.
You can find this information here:
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode

If you are not able to log into iCloud.com, see this link for more help:

  • Windows 7 becoming corrupt after "Setup Windows and ConfigMgr" step

    Hey all,
Redid my reference images and now I got an issue with several machines I tried doing bare metal OSD on.
The TS aborts somehow, it still thinks it's running, after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr. After that step it reboots and I'm greeted with a weird Win 7 logon screen where the font kinda looks like Windings (the font folder on the machine is almost empty, that's
    why).
Looked at the ccmsetup log. This error is listed: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ee4e31cd-d456-44f4-a980-6a785d393d84/ccmsetup-failed-with-error-code-0x80040154-in-ccmsetuplog?forum=configmanagerdeployment
The log also complains about BITS, too low version to be able to install ConfigMgr. But obviously Win 7 contains BITS v 4, so I don't get what happens.
None of the apps I install in the reference image build I'm able to start (IE 10, Office apps), Office is not even listed in Add/Remove Programs.
I have redone the reference images two times, once in plain MDT 2013 and once in SCCM.
The error is inconsistent. It happens most frequently on Dell Precision T1700 machines, but not always. Sometimes there's no error when installing the ConfigMgr client and I don't get any font issues, but I still can't start Office apps or IE 10. This is driving
    me mad.
ccmsetup.log and smsts.log files are here if anyone wants to take a look: http://1drv.ms/1ETazJx
    Please help!

You may have a similar issue we had. When we upgraded to R2, and updated our boot images from WinPE 4.0 to WinPE 5.0 we came across a bug with DISM. Our machines would get to the Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step and hang on a black screen/white cursor. After
working with Microsoft for a few weeks we found using a x64 boot image resolved our issue deploying Windows 7 x64.
Can you try recreating your x86 boot image and if that does not work try creating x64?
    Daniel Ratliff | http://www.PotentEngineer.com
For me, using a x64 boot image solved the problem. Why I don't know. I created a new x64 MDT boot image and task sequence and tested all newly captured wims on several different models, with different settings, and I couldn't reproduce the problem.
Then I tested the old task sequence (basically only difference is that it uses x86 boot image) and the first deployment went fine. The next one gave me the ccmsetup/windings font error again.
Thanks for your help! I'm also very eager to hear what Microsoft came up with during your support ticket.

  • What is the best product, if any, for malware removal?

wwhat is the best product, if any, for malware removal?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
