Windows 7 unable to copy files in Aiport Disk

I was just wondering if there's an existing fix to this problem. I am running a Macbook pro w/c can read and write to an airport extreme 's airport disk however my windows 7 w/c is on my lenovo(dual boot)is unable to copy files. Its XP partition can write to it perfectly. Could it be that 7 handles windows explorer differently or the protocols?please advise

We don't do Windows here!
I think a post in this forum would be better.

I am unable to copy files from my macbook pro to my external hard disk. I tried to copy a movie 800mb in size to my EDD and  it shows the loading box and it says zero kb loaded out of 800mb and sometimes it loads a a few kb of the file, then after a while it ejects my hard disk and gives a message saying you should have ejected it properly. and it sometimes gives this message
"The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “....” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)".
This happens with a range of files if they are more than a few mb in size, so I am pretty sure its not the file problem. It also occurs sometimes when i try to copy from my EDD to my mac.
I have tried everything. I formatted my EDD to MS-DOS (FAT) format because i need to use it with mac and windows. I tried resetting The SMC and the PRAM and NVRAM. I tried verify and disk repair on disk utility. But the same thing happens over again and it is really frustrating. The problem doesnt happen with my PC.
My EDD is an  Apollo 320GB hard drive from Imation.
Also are there any particular EDD brands that may not have this issue with MACs and can be used on mac and PC?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey guys,
So this is follow up from my debarkle with the EDD. I found out my problem with copying files from Mac to EDD and vice versa was a result of a not so good EDD ( i had an apollo hard drive from imation) that was not very compatible with macs. So i did my research and found out that the best hard drives were Western Digital and Seagate. I bought the newest western digital EDD 1TB and formated it to FAT32 and guess what...no problems so far. The only problem is that FAT32 format doesn't copy files larger than about 4 gigs so i couldnt copy a movie from my brothers computer onto my EDD that was 1080p. You could probably resolve that by partitioning a small part of your hard drive in ExFAT? but yeah, hopefully that helped guys.

Hi there! I am specifically using Visual Studio 2013:Windows Forms Application version 3.5 and this error log keeps popping up! I keep seeing stuff like visual C#, but
    how do I fix this?
    Error Log:
Error 1 Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\Project.exe" to "bin\Debug\Project.exe". Access to the path 'obj\Debug\Project.exe' is denied. Project

Check the Task Manager and see if the "Project.exe" is in use, or maybe another program is locking the built assembly of your project. Try to close the VS IDE and reopen the project. If this doesn't work, use Process Explorer to find the
    using process.

  • Unable to copy file D018 error on pre-install

    Hi,
    We're on NW6.5 SP5 with ZFD4.01 IR6. We tried to rollout a series of
lights-out pre-install apps to workstations (NT 4.0 SP6b) on Friday and had
98 out of 262 workstations fail with the following error:
    "Unable to copy file [\\unc path\939.fil] [D018]"
Workstations do have RF rights to the unc path where the nal files are
stored (via rights to the container hosting the workstations), and the macro
Source_Path is right, all the usual troubleshooting 'D018' checks are ok.
I've checked the AXT file and the Directory Create command comes before the
File Copy. Weirdly, only some of the workstations failed, and all on the
same file, which goes to c:\program files\blah\blah\blah and is called
    _alphapm.exe.
To ensure this ran out ok we temporarily lowered the workstation refresh
frequency to 1 min, and the nal ran to all machines in about 6 minutes.
What could be the cause of only some of the machines failing, and all on the
    same file?
    Thanks,
    Steve Law

    Hi,
I've been troubleshooting this issue and now have Zenworks debug logs, which
I've managed to capture for both a machine that succesfully installed a
pre-install nal and one that failed for the same urn of the same nal. I'm
hoping someone can explain what might be happening. Here's the crucial
portion of the failed nal from zapplib.log:

The log for the successful workstation is below. As per previous posts I
checked that the same Windows file and folder rights exist on both the
workstations, and the existing file that was to be overwritten
(C:\Lamda5\Dlls\CLIENTSTATEMENTS.DLL) was not set to read-only.
The "FindFirstFile Failed to find any file matching blah blah blah" message
suggests that the problem is related more to accessing the source file on
the server (4.fil) than in writing it to the workstation.
This was a test to 10 machines, the report shows that, chronologically, 2
workstations installed it fine and then the ensuing 8 failed. I can't think
of anything that would lock the 4.fil file - as these are reads they
shouldn't actually lock the file anyway. We run McAfee Netshield 4.63, but
it's set to scan inbound files, not outbound reads.
Any suggestions as to why it was able to read the file for one workstation
and not on another? I have had greater success when I've activated "spread
from start time" over a 15 minute period, but still had one failure out of
ten. A tool that logged all file locks would be useful but I can't find
    anything.
    Thanks,
    Steve Law

  • Unable to copy file using Zen 4 Console One

    Hi,
I get the following error message:
'Could not configure workstation for application [SPSS Activator license
    update.spss 14.Testing.PSM Applications.Applications.Resources.CF] (id=2).
    Problem: Unable to copy file
    \\MAINCF5G\apps\appwinxp\SPSS14\licenseupdate.bat. (D018)'
    I click OK.
So I am trying to copy a single file named licenseupdate.bat from the server
    \\MAINCF5G\apps\appwinxp
to the local C: drive to directory C:\Program Files\SPSS 14.
The directory already exists on the PC.
Under Distribution Options: Application Files, I have set Copy if Newer.
Under Run Options Environment, I have set Run as Unsecure System User (as
the user trying to install does not have Admin rights to workstation).
Changing to Run As Normal doesn't work either.
Any idea what the problem is?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Visual Studio Online Build Failure - Unable to copy file, access to directory is denied

    Hi,
I have an ASP.Net Web Site that compiles and builds with no errors on my local machine.
However when I attempt to build the site using default build definitions/configurations within Visual Studio Online and deploy to an Azure Website / App Service I receive the following errors:
C:\a\src\House of Canine\HouseOfCanine_1_.metaproj: Unable to copy file "C:\a\src\House of Canine\HouseOfCanine\Bin\AjaxControlToolkit.dll" to "HouseOfCanine\\Bin\AjaxControlToolkit.dll". Access to the path 'HouseOfCanine\\Bin\AjaxControlToolkit.dll' is denied.
Where, I assume, the directory "C:\a\src\House of Canine..." refers to the Visual Studio Online Directory and the directory "HouseOfCanine\\Bin\Ajax..." refers to the Azure Website directory.
This error is repeated for a number of other .dll files in the Bin folder and if I look at the diagnostics tab for the failed build on VSO, I can see that it is where it attempts to copy the binaries to the "drop" where the error fails.
    Any advice much appreciated,
    Ross
    Update
    MSBuild Error Code: MSB3021
It seems the permissions are not set correctly for the DLLs in the Bin folder however I cannot change the permissions of the files on Visual Studio Online. Any ideas?

    Hi Ross,
Since this thread is more related to Visual Studio Online, I will move it to the right forum for a better response. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Problem in copying files form one disk to another in Mavericks

I just upgraded to Mac X Mavericks and after suffering with an external disk that had been operating for years with no problem, I find thatthe process of copying files from one disk into another is extremely slow.
Is the normal procedure that the copy is first prepared and then executed?. This is taking hours to copy a 100Gz file. Please help folks.

I don't think that is possible, to platform specific. You'll need to make the directories accessible without password protection, or use another way of copying the files, such as FTP. There are multiple FTP packages available for java, such as:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/net/
(of course that would require setting up some sort of FTP server)

It is simplest to have the HDD formatted to noe common to both Mac an PC.  ExFAT is one.  But to do that will erase all data on the HDD.
If the HDD id formatted NTFS, Mac can read but not write to it.  The solution then is to use a third party application such as Paragon or Tuxera which will overcome that obstacle.  These applications do have mixed reviews.
    Ciao.

  • Can't copy files to hard disk

I have been having trouble copying/moving files to an external hard drive from my Macbook Air 3,2. I have moved and copied files from the MacBook Air many times to the external hard disk but this time I am having a lot of trouble.
I tried to move 2 movie files but it was taking an incredibly long time. So I clicked the "x" to cancel the transfer. However, it didn't stop it straightaway. The transfer just remained in limbo. Then I got a message saying something about how I didn't disconnect the hard disk properly and the hard disk just seemed to have disconnected itself from my computer even though I didn't eject it.
Then it caused problems for my MacBook Air. When I went to check on the disk in Utilities, it told me I had to use the installation disk to start it up. Other strange things happened like my desktop picture just disappeared and suddenly I had an extra 10GB on my hard drive.
I repaired the disk successfully using the installation thumb USB drive.
(I also repaired the external hard disk).
But I am having the same problem again when I try to move files onto the hard disk. It doesn't seem to work, as it's incredibly slow and when I cancel it, it says I ejected the hard disk wrongly. And the drive does not appear in the Finder Window.
I don't know why this is happening to me. I repaired the MacBook Air HD and I also repaired the external disk and I can't copy movie files onto the hard disk. I have enough space and both disks are Mac Ext Journal formatted. I copied lots of movies the other day (about three days ago and last night) onto the hard disk without any problems.
I really need to move the movies from my computer as I will runn out of disk space on the computer soon (I have about 12 GB left right now).
I tried copying a jpg picture as a test, and it copied it OK but it took a long time. Much longer than normal.
I got an error message just now:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “Elechxxxxxxxxxx.mp4” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
I never got this sort of error message before but now I am getting this message today several times when I try and copy the movies. I don't think it's the files themselves because I copied the same sort of movie files last night without any problem.
And as I said, the jpg file took a really long time to copy, like 2 minutes even though it's only a very small file.

This is not about saving the data on the external drive but I found this information to be helpful in case people have problems ejecting a drive:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1322931
    I threw the following:
    sudo umount -vf /dev/disk1s1
and the drive umounted. -v is verbose, just in case there were any errors thrown I wanted to know, and -f is force umount, which forces the drive to unmount. Check 'man umount' from terminal to see more info on these.
After doing this a couple times (I was doing some testing with some other things to find a faster solution than having to open terminal and umount) it just started umounting correctly. I have no idea why, but it did. So just keep that command in mind, just in case.
    Gryyphyn, out.
This may prevent the drive from being damaged by incorrect ejection. Because I could not eject the drive using force eject, restarting the computer etc, I unplugged the drive, which damaged the hardware of the drive.
If I had known about the command window method, I might have  been able to avoid all these problems now that I have with a damaged drive and trying to rescue the data on that drive.
That being said, I think Apple should try and resolve this problem they have with users not being able to eject drives. It seems to be a VERY common problem, and has nothing to do with users' negligence but to do with a systemic fault of Apple's.

  • Unable to Copy File From Terminal Server to Client Share

    Hi
For years client have been able to copy files from our Windows 2003 Terminal Server to their local workstation using:
    copy myfile \\tsclient\mydrive\myfolder
However we upgraded to Windows 2012 Server R2 and now Windows 7 Pro clients cannot copy files.  The copy function creates the file name in their local folder but no content is sent after maybe 20 minutes or so the copy function times out and they get an
error message saying that the application was unable to write to the file.  I have tried this function with my Windows 8.1 workstation and the file copies properly and it works fine for older Windows XP clients.  Does anyone know why Windows 7 clients
    are experiencing this issue.
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi Simon,
Initially please use latest RDP version 8.1 for windows 7 and check result.
What’s the file size which you are copying?
Does this happens for all users and on all computers?
You can try below method might resolve your case.
    1. Login to remote computer using Remote Desktop (RDP).
    2. Open Task Manager in the remote machine
    3. Click the "Process" tab
    4. Locate a program called "rdpclip.exe"
    5. Right click and select "End process" to kill this program
    6. Click on "File" menu in the task manager and select "New Task (Run)"
    7. Type rdpclip.exe and press the button to start the process.
By killing existing instance of the rdpclip.exe and restarting the program, you can get your copy paste work again in your remote desktop.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Safely copying files from Target Disk Mode to External USB. Advice?

Just got a new iMac and transferred my system and important files to it from my old iMac. However, a partition on my old iMac has files I want to move to my new iMac so they can be included in Time Machine backups while others I want to move to another external hard drive since I have physical copies of most of those files elsewhere.
I can connect my old iMac to the new via Target Disk mode and copy the critical files from Mac-to-Mac easily and quickly enough. What I want to know is if I’m safe to copy the other files from the TDM-connected iMac to a USB drive.
I’ve read that having other devices connected to your Mac while another Mac is connected via TDM can result in corrupted files. Is this true? Is it unsafe to copy files from a TDM Mac to an external USB drive?
If it is safe, is it best to connect the USB drive to the new Mac or to the old one while it’s in TDM? There’s a lot of data so I’m wondering about transfer times. One method would see files going over Firewire through the new iMac to a USB drive, while the other would go from TDM-connected Mac directly to a USB drive connected to its own USB port. That is:
TDM iMac > New iMac > USB Drive connected to New iMac
    or
TDM iMac > USB Drive connected to TDM iMac
I have limited space on my internal drive and I also don’t want to copy-hop from TDM iMac to New iMac then copy from New iMac to USB drive. I'd like to go directly from old drive to external USB drive if it's safe.
So I’m looking for advice on the best way to connect devices in order to cut down on copying time and number of copies, and to do it safely without corrupting data. Any advice is appreciated!

I've used Migration Assistant already to move all of my immediately necessary data and settings over. This other data was on a separate partition and I'm unable to copy all of the data over to my new drive due to lack of space.
Things are complicated by the fact that I need to change some of my externals over to Time Machine ready backups. Previously I was using 1 TB and a 2 TB drive for TM and another 2 TB drive for general backups/archiving. Now I need to juggle things around so that both 2 TB drives are for TM and the 1 TB is used for archiving.
An important point I should have mentioned is that I can't use my old iMac normally due to a GPU problem that seizes the system up. This is the reason I can't just copy stuff directly from old iMac to external USBs.
I'm interested to know if what I described above is safe and if there are any time savings or benefits for copying through my new iMac or connecting the externals directly to the old iMac in TDM.

  • New windows unable to locate file (music) while external HD is plugged in?

My computer was recently updated from XP to newer version of windows. My itunes acct no longer identifies or locates the music in my external HD.  With the exception of my ituens purchases, my personnel music are listed as only files in my itunes acct.  When I click on the song (file) it states unable to locate file even though my External HD with the music is plugged into the computer.  Any help would be appreciated...

    Hello 16to87,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains advice on locating your iTunes library:
iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
Create or choose a different iTunes Library file
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of these screens:
If you don't see one of the screens above, you may want to try again. Remember to hold down the Option key if you're using a Mac or the Shift key if you're using Windows.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
