Windows 7-updated, cant open cus error 7(windows error 5)

I have a hp with windows 7 on. I updated ITunes to the newest version the other week 12.0.1 and from then on haven't been able to open ITunes because the computer picks up a threat: virus found Win32/Heri in the file ITunes.dll and I get a error box with Error 7(windows error 5) how do I fix this?

If I had a guaranteed remedy for you I would have posted it already. Unfortunately I haven't seen enough cases of this error to get a handle on what really works reliably every time so the best I can do is offer some more ideas of things you can try. Hopefully one of them is something you haven't seen already.
Do I take it that iTunes appears to have installed correctly and this error occurs when you try to run iTunes?
Have you tried running iTunes from a different user account that has administrator rights?
Have you tried running iTunes in iTunes Safe Mode which you get to by holding down shift+ctrl as you launch iTunes?
Any chance you could post the full text of the error message, or better still a screenshot?
You could try checking the logs in the Event Viewer. Start > Search progams and files > Eventvwr - but I've no idea what you're supposed to be looking for.
You say you have removed the various components, cleaned the installation folders and, and reinstalled. Other places where iTunes stores files that probably won't have been touched so far are:
\ProgramData\Apple
\ProgramData\Apple Computer
\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple
\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer
\Users\<User>\AppData\LocalLow\Apple Computer
\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
It could be an issue overwriting any file or folder in one of those locations. You could try archiving the folders and then removing them, or particular subfolders, one at a time to see if you can isolate which causes the problem. iTunes should be able to rebuild those that it needs to function as it would do on the initial installation. Your general iTunes preferences are stored in one location, and any iOS device backups in another, so you may need to be a bit selective in what you delete and/or be prepared to rebuild that data.
If there is a chance that iTunes hasn't installed correctly you could tear it down again and try the section Install missing components from the user tip which has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into its components. You could try installing each of these with the assistance of The Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (aka MS Installer "Fixit"). This might drive through each package properly and repair any permissions on objects that the software tries to access.
Or you could try logging the installation of each component to see if you can spot any errors that you can correct.
Take the unpacked components of the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe file and move them to the root of drive C:. Try installing them individually in alphabetical order (don't try to install SetupAdmin.exe which drives the original installer).
msiexec /i C:\AppleApplicationSupport.msi /l*v C:\Log_AAS.txt
msiexec /i C:\AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi /l*v C:\Log_AMDS.txt
msiexec /i C:\AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi /l*v C:\Log_AMDS64.txt
msiexec /i C:\AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi /l*v C:\Log_ASU.txt
msiexec /i C:\Bonjour.msi /l*v C:\Log_Bonjour.txt
msiexec /i C:\Bonjour64.msi /l*v C:\Log_Bonjour64.txt
msiexec /i C:\iTunes.msi /l*v C:\Log_iTunes.txt
msiexec /i C:\iTunes64.msi /l*v C:\Log_iTunes64.txt
You can triple-click a line to select all of it, then press Ctrl+C to copy, switch to the command box and click the icon at the top left of the window to access the paste menu.  Which components you have depends on whether you've unpacked the 32-bit or the 64-bit installer.
The log files might provide further clues as to what is going wrong. I suggest using Notepad++ to review the logs. Look for words like "failed" in the log.

Hello there, thumerick.
The following Knowledge Base article addresses the very issue you're describing:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

HELP!!!

Hi ashraf_8900,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when you cannot open iTunes or sign in with your Apple ID. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend. I would first recommend that you completely uninstall iTunes and all of its related components in the correct order, however. Please use the attached article for information and instructions on removing iTunes from your computer. Once removed as described in the steps below, please install fresh and test. If the issue continues, please let me know.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
Happy holidays,
Joe

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with music and video with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
You need to decide which computer you want to transfer iTunes content and photos from. If this will now be your computer at work, you will need to transfer your iTunes library and your photos from your Mac to your PC. You can transfer your iTunes library from your Mac to your PC at work following the instructions included with this link. This will make the iTunes library on your PC at work identical to your iTunes library on your Mac at the time it is transferred from your Mac. You will also need to authorize your PC at work with your iTunes account with iTunes - the same iTunes account used on your Mac.

• Cant open over network from Windows to Leopard, but ok to Tiger

Hi
We have a number of Mac Pro's some running Tiger and others running Leopard. I can open any quicktime file over our network from a PC to any Tiger Mac, but not to a Leopard Mac. Why not? I can see the files I can open any other file type, just not QT. Copy the same file over to one of the Tiger Mac's and I can open it from the Windows PC. This would not be such an issue, but we are dealing with 1920x1080 uncompressed files and it is a real pain to move them.
Get Error 43: a file could not be found
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Tony

Well outside help other than this list has solved this. Seems there is a bug in QT windows that if a QT file resides in a folder on the MAc with a name longer than 8 characters, it wont open over the network.
ie. Running QT Windows 7.5 connecting over network to a Mac running leopard.

• Windows 8 - Can Reader open as a desktop window?

So far in Windows 8 when I open a file with Reader the Reader app opens and runs the pdf. I am aware that I can split screen this and still navigate the desktop but I'm wondering if there is a way to have it open within the desktop view?
Also I can't find settings for Reader anywhere in Windows 8, any help?

All new Windows 8 apps are "metro" apps. They can only work in the new full screen/split screen world, which Microsoft see as the future. Settings for the app are accessed as for other apps, but I can't remember what that is any more. I didn't take to it, finding it difficult to see things as an improvement.
But, unless you have a limited tablet, you can still install most older Windows "legacy" programs, including Adobe Reader XI. http://get.adobe.com/reader (be sure to turn OFF the free and unwanted bonus downloads offered).

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

• I have uninstalled and reinstalled and Firefox for windows 7 will not open. There is no error message--it just doesn't open, even in safe mode. What do I do?

My computer is set to auto update for Windows 7 Home Premium and for Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010. I am also running Norton 360. There was a major update for Office on 12/10/14 that seems to be when my problems started. This month, every time my updates have caused a reboot, Mozilla has failed to open. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, and it has only lasted a day or two before it crashes again. This last time it will still not open. All the instructions to troubleshoot seem to be based on the idea that the program is open and just has issues. I can't even get it to open up in Safe Mode.
I have tried to reinstall, and it says that it will launch automatically when the install is complete, but it is not working. Since Norton scans every download before it runs, I'm not certain if that is where the problem is since I never get the window that shows the step by step installer for Firefox.
What do I need to do?

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. A clean reinstall is not the same as a regular reinstall performed using the built in installer. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu and click the close button ).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u> See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. <!-- Starting in Firefox 31, the Firefox uninstaller no longer lets you remove user profile data.Ref: Bug 432017 and https://support.mozilla.org/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer/discuss/5279 [Fx31] Windows uninstaller will no longer offer the option to remove personal data -->

• HT203163 using windows 7 professional cant download itunes 10.7 - get error: the installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory

I am using windows 7 professional operating system.  I am unable to update to itunes 10.7.  I received this error message:  The installer has insufficient priveleges to access this directory

Okay.
The message can also be consistent with disk/file damage.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
