Windows 7 Updates broken WDS
Hi Guys
this is kind of a tricky one. . .
i have a WDS server (2008) .
imaged about 50-70 pc's fine.
Dell machines that are working fine :
Optiplex -
780,790,9010
Laptops -
E5510, E5520
all above machine types image perfect, however we just got a new model in (Dell Optiplex 9020)
and i'm getting the error message when it hits winPE:
"An error occurred while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server. Please check to ensure there is an operational DHCP Server on this network segment."
so i exported image and injected network drivers using DISM, checked the DISM.log file and confirms drivers went in sucessfully (index1).
i just don't understand why all the other models work but i'm stuck on the Optiplex 9020.
any help would be great.

just to awnser myself, i fixed this a while back but forgot to update thread.
I put the Lan drivers into the image with apps ect. but needed to inject the drivers into the boot image using DISM for unsigned drivers and boom 9020 imaging fine.

Windows 10 Update - Broken sound and resolution
I just updated to whatever the most recent version is, 17/02/2015, and sound no longer works. If I plug in my headset, I can get sound fine, but without it, it doesn't detect the output device, my screen.
Also, at the sign in screen, my resolution seemed fine, but after I logged in my resolution changed to something 'incorrect' and then gave my only 2 options to choose from, both of which were not my original.
I don't know if it would help to know I use a TV screen as my monitor.
Is the place to go for help, I haven't really looked at what the foum is for. xDSpoke with HP Australia this morning. Was asked tobe patient as they were still working on releasing drivers to supprt Windows 10. Maybe in a day or so more drivers will be available on the HP web site to suit, including the necessary touch screen / rotation drivers etc.

Windows 7 SP1 Upgrade - Stuck at Windows Desktop Update
Ok so I have a 4 year old laptop that had Windows 7 Ultimate on it. It is a Intel dual core computer with 4GB of RAM.
I left it over night to download and install the SP1 patch. I wake up this morning and sign in, it shows a black screen and in the upper left it has "Setting up personalized settings for: Windows Desktop Update"
I thought that this might take some time so I left for about an hour, now I am back and this screen is still there. I fear that it has broken itself and that it is broken. Is there a way to fix this issue?During the Black screen, try using Ctrl Alt Delete
Go to task manager
check your CPU usage (mine was at zero when i did this)
Go to processes
and end both the
processes that start with Reg (I apologize i cant fully remember the name of it)
Make sure you do this by right clicking and ending the process tree

Firefox will not open and crashes after my lastest Windows 7 update on April 21st, 2015
After I completed the latest Windows 7 Update I have not been able to access Firefox. Upon opening the program I am given "Firefox has stopped working" message as the image shows. Never had any issues with Firefox before. I have Uninstalled and Reinstalled the latest Firefox version with the same results.
Please guide me to fix this problem

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.

Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

Yesterday (23rd March) my computer appeared to perform an auto update of windows vista and since then every time time use firefox it crashes shortly after entering a web portal (after about 1-5 seconds). It even crashes on the BBC news page which I always use to check stability. I have been using Firefox for years and it has just started doing this. However, I examined the programme files and actaully cannot see a windows vista update for yesterday, but I can see that there was a Firefox update, so now I'm a bit confused. Looking at the program files in more details it appears that there was a very major update of Firefox taking place including lots of file extensions. You should also know that your password recovery process doesn't work. I never got the email that is supposed to help me recover a lost password. I am really disappointed with Firefox doing this. It's costing me time and money. Can you help before I give up and go back to using Windows explorer (ugh!). I have thought of simply removing Firefox and starting again with a new download but that might not solve the probelm and I will lose my bookmarks.
I have an update to my message posted yesterday regarding Firefox crash after vista update. Today it got worse when Firefox wouldn't open at all and Windows explorer also stopped working. Curiously, email was still working, and when I checked another (little used) account on the same PC, I got a perfect connection with Firefox and Explorer. I had to conclude that the latest updates of Vista have interacted with some application only found in my main account on the PC. I tried opening Firefox in its safe mode and I tried opening explorer without Plug ins, but neither worked. Finally I decided the only answer was to do a system restore and wind back the windows software to where it was before the problem. I now have Firefox and explorer restored to working order, but I still don't understand why, because I got a message saying the system restore hasn't worked. Full Comprehension of the cause is beyond my capability, but through trial and error as described above I seem to have fixed it. The suspect vista updates are KB2505189 , and KB2524375.

Java program are limited as Administrator after windows 7 update
I have updated the windows 7.
The java program(packaged by InstallAnywhere 2008 Enterprise) can be executed when I login the system as ordinary user.
but the error will occur when I execute the java program as Administrator,please refer to the below error information.
(The java program can be executed correctly before the windows 7 update, so I think there maybe some new restriction for the java if login as Administrator )

CD/DVD completely disappears after Windows XP updates
I had this happen twice now, on my 3 year old Toshiba Satellite P35-s605.
The internal CD/DVD drive works fine, then all of a sudden, it completely disappears from the system. Discs do not play, and the drive does not show up in Explorer.
Likewise, it's the same with my external USB CD/DVD drive; it works fine, then it no longer shows up even though the USB "boing" indicates that the computer reads that a device has been connected.
The last time it happened, I reinstalled the original recovery disk. That seemed to correct the problem. It disappeared again after a Windows XP update (I have not yet added any software besides the OS).
Has anyone had this problem, and has anyone solved it?Satellite P35-S605

I have never heard of a Windows Update causing that sort of problem. It sounds like hardware.
Have you ever tried this fix?

Satellite A205-S4607 doesn't start after windows vista update

I was installing windows vista updates, but the battery was low and the computer turned off, then, the computer doesn´t start, only the hard disc led is light but the screen is black, please can you help me?
The model is Satellite A205 -S4607Thanks for your advice, but the problem is very complicate, the computer doesn't boot up, only the led te HD is ligthing, I removed the HD and the memory but doesn't work, I've read that the problem could be the bios, and the recomendation is remove the battery of the board to reset the bios, but I think it is very dangerous.

T61 no sound after Windows (Vista) update (?)
I have purchased a T61 in December 2007. The sound has always been low and now i have no sound at all. I cannot hear files locally or on the Net -- or any of the computer sounds.
i realize now that it has happened after a Windows (Vista) update. I have done every step but 6.
I have Speakers (SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio). The sound keeps defaulting to to Line 2 Muv Enum (Virtual Cable).

I have tried several times to install a Windows 7 update but it always fails with an error 66A. Can anyone provide a solution?
I don't know if this is in anyway relevant to the problem here but:-
If a windows update has failed and it is reported in control panel>windows update in the update history then clicking on troubleshooting problems opens a help window with the first entry being "click to open windows update troubleshooter". This program must "clean up" something and the update often then installs. I also don't know if the failed update has to be reported in the history for the program to clean it up. -
Windows security update error code 80092004
I am repeatedly trying to update my windows security setting via windows vista update. One important update was not completed with consistent accuracy. its called error code 80092004. The hard disk has plenty of space, the update was 8.5mb, it always hung on 11% without going further during download and the the error code is flashed with red buttons to say one one imporatn update has failed. I did this umpteen times over a few days now withou success. Can anyone help?
