Windows 7 updating question

I just ran the Windows 7 Upgrade advisor and it is telling me I should remove the ATI catalyst install manager and control center, and reinstall them after windows 7 has been installed. How would I do that? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I got this message too but I didn't remove the driver, just continued upgrade installation.
Everything went well. So before you remove anything try to continue upgrading procedure.

  • ThinkCentre M92P, Windows 10 update questions?

I have received my update via Windows update but I am getting error code 80240020 so the update has failed to install several times now. I have found a few posts around the web suggesting that this was affecting quite a few folk, but I thought I would check the current position on the Lenova site before trying any of the suggestions on offer which may be hit and miss. The upgrade guidance on the Lenova website covering desktops suggests that there are a few utilities such as Lenova SimpleTap that should be uninstalled as well as some third party programs such as Evernote. Happy to do these as I don't think I have ever used them. However i am concerned about Lenova Rescue & Recovery having used it to create backups. Would I be able to reinstall post upgrade? I am also concerned to note that the Lenova ThinkVantage System Update (5.07.003) does not appear to be picking up the latest BIOS for my system - the website is showing Bios 9SKT89A released 30 July which is clearly newer than 9SKT88AUS that is on mine. I am also slightly concerned that there is no Bios for Windows 10 available. Whilst Microsoft have clearly decided that Windows 10 will run on my PC, I want to make sure that it will be fully functioning. Finally the error code 80240020. I realise that this is a Microsoft issue but given the Lenova advice regarding the removal of some of the Lenova utilities, I was wandering whether in doing so I would force Windows Update to actually update! If not, if anyone else has encountered this issue on an M92P and found away round it, a resolution would be welcome.

I wasn't aware of an automatic tablet mode, so I can't anwser your first question. But in regards to the second question: Here's a link to the Microsoft blog that describes that the face unlock feature requires Intel's "RealSense 3D camera technology". http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/03/17/making-windows-10-more-personal-and-more-secure-with-windows-hello/So unfortunately that won't work with the Helix's normal webcam.  I have two question for you though. 1. Do you experience any problems with the touchpad/trackpoint stuttering at times? Mostly under load or right after startup and just for about 2,3 seconds.  2. Do you experience any issues with the display / app scaling? I explained my troubles in greater detail on the Microsoft community board: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/236babed-47cd-4199-85d5-75d329e4b7fc I'm trying to figure out whether my problems are device specific or not.

  • Windows 7 update question: Windows6.1-KB2998527

    Hello,
A couple of months ago we installed the update Windows6.1-KB2998527 on all of our client computers and since then plenty of folders named ~991896f1d3cbd1ed0ac0 get piled up in the root of the drive C: These folders contain the following files: Windows6.1-KB2998527-x64.cab,
Windows6.1-KB2998527-x64-pkgProperties.txt, Windows6.1-KB2998527-x86.cab and etc. They persist over reboots.
    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

    Hi,
To find out where are the files from, I suggest delete the files again, then use Process Monitor\Enable boot logging function, reboot PC, then analyze the trace log created by Process Monitor, if you have difficulties analyzing the trace, you can
upload the trace file to OneDrive, paste the download link here.

  • We just updated to Windows 7. Question: tool bar is very small, how do I make tools larger?

We just updated to Windows 7. Question: tool bar is very small, how do I make tools larger? Top bar is also very small, about a 4pt size.

Did you also get a monitor with higher resolution?
The UI size is not adjustable in ID (more's the pity), and I can't think of anything about the OS that would affect the size. Monitor size and resolution, on the other hand, will definitely affect how big ID's UI elements are displayed.

  • Photoshop CS6 Extended Update Questions

I have Photoshop CS6 Extended as part of the Master Suite (stand alone) on a 64bit Windows PC. it is currently running PS version 13.0
I can't connect the PC to the internet at this time but would like to download the update(s) on my laptop and then install in the PC.
    My Questions are:
    1) are there any known problems with offline upgrades to Photoshop doing it this way? Any precautions I should take?
    2) what version CS6 Extended should I be Updating to (as I'm on a stand alone version and not Creative Cloud)?
    thanks

Windows CS6 perpetual should be at version 13.0.1.3 to be fully up to date. Where subscription CS6 is version 13.1.2

  • Can we make things more Useful...? not an update question.

Ok well i said its not an update question.. well it kinda is.
today is friday.. the release date of the new iphone 3g.. great.. i love my iphone.. im goin to wait a week or so before i go ahead and buy the new phone for sake of bugs and lil tweaks..
ok so today i dont know what drove me to update my iphone.. and it got totally bricked for 3 hours.. until i finnally got thru using the "clicking" solution... well i understand the server is overwelmed.. and everyone is updatin and the same time.. but there was a prompt askin if i wanted to update and get the latest iphone software and the latest version of itunes... good.. lets all download it.. most of us it will take 3-6 hours for the iphone to update because the whole problem with the overload on apples side...
    ..BUT...
what if we cant wait that long?
i SYNC'd my iphone before the update.. well everyone does... itunes prompts you to do so.. WHY.. emphasizing on WHY... if we synced the phone to our computer systems.. and a problem like for example is goin forth now with this update... CAN'T we just restore our iphones back to how it was before we even tried updating it?
IT did SAVE to our computers right?
why cant we just double click here, right click right there..
    and BOOM..
back for pre 2.0 days.. well until after the storm has passedt..
why cant we have that option in itunes... heck why not?
hey doctors will always have beepers to get in contact with.. so hey the whole life death situation thing means it isnt that that THAT bad.. but hey everyone needs there cell phone and people use cell phones.. this one in particular for business.. so maybe we could have avoided some confrontation to some conference calls and clients.. etc... well regardless.. as easy for the update to have made the iphone in a way "bricked".. i think it should have been easy to restore to pre 2.0 .
windows has that option in its system restore feature...
download something that messes up your system? virus? update that doesnt work well with the OS?.. restore to an earlier date is an option in the control panel..
i think itunes need something like that with the iphone version..
    last but not least..
    i love my iphone :-D

  • Windows Security Update (KB978207)

Received from TechNetFlash, secuity fix for problems in all I.E.s, including I.E. 8 Windows 7 32 & 64 Bit. KB978207 update has not shown in my Windows Update yet.
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS10-002.mspx
Using Windows 7 32 & 64 Bit Evaluation copy Build 7100, attempting update from the site above results in: this update is not for your OS.
Wondering if others don't have it and/or can't get it.

From 7100 Build, I can't see 7600 for download, and I thought evaluation was good 'till June. But that a critical update not be available to someone in this case is, what can I say, Questionable?
    So two alternatives are
    1) Reinstall Vista U.
    2) Rush out and buy Windows 7.
Not doing Vista any more so for safety sake I have to rush out & buy Windows 7. Question answered.

  • Windows Intune Updates?

    Dear all,
I have some question with Windows Intune Updates...
Is anyone know where can I find the latest update of Windows Intune?
Like iOS/Android device management, rule compliance...etc.
I need to understand what we can do or what compliance is worked for iOS/Android.
    thank you.

Intune is not anything you download. It's a service hosted and provided by Microsoft directly. The service is always at the latest stable/production version.

  • Windows 8 Updates fail

KB 2769165 and 2770917 fail to install on Windows 8 Pro

This issue can be fixed temporarily by turning off the checkbox for 'Check for Microsoft Updates'.  Those would be for things other than windows.  Strangely, when you select this to not check (by default on install it is checked) it disappears
from the screen for later reversal.  This has fixed all the pc's I have assessed that were having trouble updating windows.  This is a clue to the real issue, which Microsoft should be addressing, as it disables all other updates from Microsoft which
I would imagine have to do with Office, Hardware and others...  This is definitely a HUGE issue since no Windows Defender updates can be performed while the windows update feature is broken, exposing the user to malware that they would not necessarily
have been exposed to.  In addition, it forces the end users to look for solutions since Microsoft, in each and every blog entry, forum entry or email shoots recommendations at the users who may or may not be technically savvy to perform.  Many of
the recommendations could have harmful results to the end users pc if they were not to apply them correctly, and in many cases, the recommendations are written in such a manner that the sequence and application of the recommendation are unclear and left to
the end user to assume.  Not good.  You better get this fixed and soon.  I will not be recommending anyone migrate to Windows 8 new or upgraded until this issue is addressed, fully and without question.  This is a reproduce-able issue that
can and has been reproduced by many, many end users to date and for the life of me I cannot understand why Microsoft has not reproduced the issue and created a surefire solution that works all the time, in every case.

  • Cannot adjust brightness in new Windows 10 Update

Bravo! This solved the problem with a very dark built-in display and weirdly working brightness F-button on my VAIO VPC Z21 after otherwise smoothly upgrading it to Windows 10 couple of days ago. Thank you!

    Hi JacobRocks12!
BuFan is right about the official drivers and software update for Windows 10 operating System. Currently, Sony is testing Vaio computer to the new updates. It takes time since Sony needs to coordinate with certain vendors to validate those updates.

  • Aspire V3 - 571 Windows 10 Update Issue

Hey Folks, The Aspire V3 - 571 is not on Acer's Windows 10 update list.  When I run the Windows 10 app and the "Check your PC" for compatibility...  I get the following error message. DevicesThe device manufacturers haven't made these devices compatible with windows 10, so they will cause problems. Check with the manufacturers for support. -Broadcom Virtual Wireless AdapterYou might not be able to connect to the internet Is this something that will be made compatible in the coming weeks?  Or is updating to Windows 10 just out of the question for me until I purchase a new computer? Cheers!!

Hi there I too own an V3 -571.  Unlike you, when I ran the Windows 10 app compatibility test, it said my laptop was compatible and reported no issues.  So I went ahead and upgraded to W10, despite Acer website not having this model listed. For the last seven days I've been searching forums and the web to eliminate an issue around my boot up time, which was previously less than 15 seconds on 8.1 and was now up to 3minutes!  You'd get a black screen and then eventually it would get to the login screen.  It was so frustrating. I tried endless tips and instructions, but apparently it's the drivers (predominantly the display adapters) than need updating.  However, this is impossible if our model (V3-571) isn't supported and W10 compatible drivers aren't available. Dolby home theatre v4 stopped working too, which I've seen a lot of other users complain about on this forum.  Last night I reverted back to 8.1 as I'd had enough.  If you do go ahead and update I'd be intrigued to know how you get on and whether you ecounter the same boot up issue that I did, especially as we have the same laptop. I've decided to wait for either Microsoft or Acer to iron out the cracks and all relevant drivers are available, if ever.  I like the new W10 but I can't deal with laptop taking 3 minutes to turn on.

  • A new user name showed up on my computer after a windows 8 update.

A new user name showed up on my computer after a windows 8 update. A name I do not know or recognize. After the update,  the screen showed 2 users, myself and the name "John". it wasn't there yesterday, & I am the only user. I also bought the laptop new so it can't be a previous user. Can anyone tell me how to remove "John" from my computer. I am going to do a system restore & see if that works. In the meantime, if anyone has ever had this happen, what did you do?

  • Black screen after windows auto update

New laptop in use for 3 weeks.  After Windows auto update restart I get to splash screen and am able to enter Windows password to log onto desktop.  After successfully entering password I am not able to view my desktop; I get the black screen with cursor function; cursor disappears when moved within an inch of left or right of screen (seems to go behind something).  I believe I am at the desktop but just not able to view it, because I receive app popups on the black screen (need to update McAfee, etc).
In safe mode I restored to pre auto update date; manually installed all Windows updates;  worked fine until NEXT auto update, same problem.
Graphics Card:  Stock Intel HD Graphics
    Monitor:  Generic PnP
Why would it be fine with the manual update and not after auto update?
I do not have an external monitor to attach this laptop for diagnosis.  I have run windows partition checks and hard drive partition checks with no issues to resolve.
I did get an error message once when running a diagnosis (can't remember which) : Windows Update Error 0x80070490
No real luck finding anyway for me (the average Joe) to resolve this issue.
If this is a harddrive issue I don't want to keep pussyfooting around while my warranty window shrinks.
I have downloaded driver updates from HP, but cannot get the Synaptics Touchpad driver to download.  I don't think this is my issue though.
I am going to manually update all my drivers then manually update Windows.  We will see what happens on the next auto update.
Please advise if this is an issue I need to just give up on and return this laptop for replacement.  It seems like this is not a completely unheard of issue, but I'm shocked at what we are asked to do to attempt to resolve it.  Out of my depth.

    Hi @Justanothermom
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having troubles with a black screen after an update. I am happy to help you with this.
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with modifiying your update settings. I was going to suggest it myself as I read through your post, and then saw you ask the question. Sometimes updates can have unintended results by the creator. With all the different combinations of  hardware, and the fact that updates come from different sources, it is one of those things that is hard to completely control.
Please see the following for how to make adjustments to your update settings.
Turn automatic updating on or off - windows.microsoft.com
Or if you know which update seems to be causing the issue you can take a look at this page:
