Windows 7 Upgrade on Satellite A300

Hello,
I purchased a Toshiba A 300 in May so I am not eligible for a free upgrade. I have these questions that I wasn't able to answer after extensive trips to the Toshiba and Microsoft websites:
I assume that if I purchase the Windows 7 and install it (clean install) I would lose the ability to use some of the Toshiba functionality and the recovery partition functionality which is based on Vista for my machine.
I'd be happy to pay for an installation CD from Toshiba that would create a clean install of Windows 7 on my machine with the original Toshiba software as well as create recovery partitions.
I just haven't found any mention of it anywhere. It all about the "free upgrade" which I don't qualify for by virtue of one month. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?
Many thanks,
Dave

Hello Dave
Your notebook is delivered with preinstalled Vista. Vista recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called HDDRecovery and there is no some kind of special hidden recovery partition.
You can install Vista on your notebook so often you want and after fresh Vista installation you will have factory settings.
You can install Vista from HDD using F8 and repair my computer option or you can install Vista using installations DVD. This DVD must be created by you using preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". Please create this disc; maybe twice to be sure you will not lose it. After creating this DVD you can do with your notebook whatever you want. You can delete whole content and kill all partitions. Using created DVDs you can have everything as before.
So now you can install new OS. I agree with you and best way to install Win7 is clean OS installation using Microsoft installations DVD. When Win7 support starts all Toshiba drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities will be offer for download. All this Toshiba stuff you can install alone and you don't need Toshiba Win7 recovery media.
If you have more questions let me know.

  • Windows 8 upgrade on Satellite P300 - possible?

I want my P300 upgrade to windows 8. Is this possible, and easy to do ?
    Thank you.

Yes, it is possible to install Win 8 but since the Satellite P300 is not a part of the Win8 supported notebook models, you will not find Win 8 drivers.
You will have to search and collect such drivers at your own hand
So this can be a little bit problem but its definitely possible to use Win 8

  • How can I install windows XP on my Satellite A300-129

    Hello,
Since a few days I have bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-129. I'm very satisfied with the laptop, though I don't like to work with Vista so i would prefer to reformate the laptop and install Windows XP Professional(32 or 64 bits, dunno yet).
However I don't know if i have to do anything special for it, because this is my first notebook I've got and I only once had a laptop with drivers on a CD. Now i'm switching operating system i think i need some driver disc's for my webcam and stuff like that.
    I hope some1 can help me :)
    Thanks alot
BTW I'm dutch, so sorry for my English.

    > And i've got a legit license of XP Pro, though i dont understand what u mean with the sata driver things. Do u mean i need to ADD the drivers on the current Disc with windows XP?
The point is that your Windows XP CD does not contain the SATA drivers which are necessary to recognize the HDD during the XP setup procedure.
So you will have to include the SATA driver pressing the F6 button while the XP setup is loading. For this procedure an external FDD drive is necessary.
If you dont have a external USB FDD drive then you could create an Win XP CD and could include the SATA drivers using the free software called nLite.
One note; Use the forums search function for searching on other threads about the nLite and how to create such CD. I remember there are many threads in the forum about this theme.
    Cheers

  • Windows 8 Upgrade for Satellite C870D-105 possible?

    Hi out there,
    I own a Satellite C870D-105 Partnumber PSCA2E.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to upgrade my Win7 Home Premium to Win 8 Pro via the Windows Upgrade Assistant?
So far I haven't been successful and the part numbe does not appear in the compatibility matrix offered by Toshiba.
Is there any chance that this model will be included?
I bought it with the marketing promise that is possible to upgrade.
    Have I been fooled?

    *@ mgoehring*
First of all you have to install Win 8 system.
Then after Win 8 installation you could use the Toshiba Win 8 Upgrade Assistant to get Toshiba Win 8 drivers.
Toshiba Win 8 upgrade assistant DOESNT install Win 8 system BUT ONLY Win 8 drivers/tools.

  • Windows 8 Upgrade on Satellite P100-160 - No Sound

    Hello everyone.
    I own a Satellite P100-160 {http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-products/satellite-p100-160/}
I decided to upgrade the machine from Windows Vista to Windows 8.
The machine works o.k. apart from the fact there is no longer any sound.
It seems that windows 8 does not have the correct sound drivers.
Can anyone help me out with a solution?
The laptop is in good working order, and apart from no sound.
    Thanks

Hello, thanks for your replies so far.
Just in case anyone else out there has tried to move to Windows 8 on an older laptop I will tell you
What I have tried that did NOT work.

None of the above suggestions / drivers worked.
The drivers all did install but ... no sound from the Laptop.
I accept this is an old laptop but it is in mint condition.
Here is my solution to date.
I bought a Sound Blaster X-fi Go! Pro external USB Sound card from Maplin U.K. yesterday.
It works and the sound quality is great!
I am currently using an external speaker ... but I may try to install the USB sound card inside the
Laptop and see if I can rewire the speakers ...
Here is a link to the USB Card.

By the way I have managed to upgrade 3 of my 4 laptops from Windows Vista /7 to Windows 8.
Here is what worked with comments.
Toshiba Satellite P100-160 - Vista to Windows 8. Only problem = No sound Driver.
Toshiba Satellite L300D - Vista -> Windows 7 - Windows 8. No problems at all.
    HP G62 - Windows 7 -> Windows 8. No problems seen yet.
The only machine I cannot upgrade is an HP Envy 15-1060ea due to notebook specific ATI Radeon 4830 Driver.

  • Satellite A300-276 - nvraid.sys error on Windows start

    Good evening,
I am recently trying to install Windows 7 in my Satellite A300-276. I actually install it but when I want to start it apears a message saying:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix (...)"
and then, in the same page:
    "File:\Windows\system32\Drivers\nvraid.sys"
    "Status:0xc0000098"
"Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt"
Could someone help me with this?
    Thank you very much.
    Best regards,
    Andr

I have installed Win7 32bit on my Satellite A300-1LI and on P300D successfully and it runs perfectly.
I don't have time to read the whole thread but what I sugesst you is to install Win7 32bit again and all other stuff following my installations order. It worked for me so I think it should be ok for you too.
    Here we go:
    Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) and clean Win7
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -supervisor utility
    -infrared
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
Everything runs well but some Win7 drivers were missing so I have installed follow Vista stuff.
    Added Vista stuff:
    -Toshiba assist - work properly
    -Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
    -Synaptics driver

  • MousePad & Keyboard dont work under Win7 on Satellite A300-1BZ

    Hi,
I have just installed Windows 7 onto my laptop which is around a year old now but the mouse pad and the keyboard do not work. No lights on the caps lock keys or anything, the only way to get them to work is to press the power button so that the laptop goes into sleep and then press it again to wake it up, this then wakes up the keyboard but the mouse pad still does not work.
I can plug a USB mouse in and this works but I would prefer if the touchpad and the keyboard would just work in the first place!! However if I then restart the computer using the keyboard the touchpad then suddenly works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks

I have upgraded my Satellite A300 to Win7 and both devices works perfectly.
Have you made upgrade or clean Win7 installation?
To be honest it is a little bit strange. I have installed WXP, Vista and now Win7 on my A300 but touchpad and keyboard worked well all the time.
Have you noticed this immediately after fist start or later?

  • Satellite A300-1QD - How to restore preinstalled Vista?

    Hey,
I made a big mistake two years ago. I installed windows 7 on my Satellite A300-1QD but on the notebook was Windows Vista installed and I did no recovery disk, but I have the original serialnumber of it.
Are there any possibilities to get Windows Vista back on the notebook without to buy an new version of Windows Vista?
    greets
    steste123

    Hello
If you dont have a recovery disk you must order such a disk from Toshiba directly to restore preinstalled Windows Vista with all drivers and tools (factory settings):
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But its not for free As far as I know it costs ~30 Euros.
So I dont understand why you didnt create the recovery disk yourself. Everything is mentioned in user manual

  • Satellite A300-20P - Games with Windows 7 not working in full screen

I have Satellite A300-20P and VGA ATI 3650
I made upgrade to Windows 7 Professional
All games working well but not in full screen. I installed the last driver for ATI for Windows 7. It was working in full screen in Vista before I make upgrade.
Same problem on my brother`s laptop after he make upgrade to Windows 7.

    Hi
Normally you can change the screen resolution in every game and if they should run in full screen mode or not. Check this!!!
Can you also tell us what display driver you have installed? The drivers from the Toshiba page are for desktop cards and not for mobile cards. So please use only the Toshiba drivers.

    Hello
Im wondering that you want to upgrade to 8GB RAM... Normally 3 or 4GB should be more as enough for all applicaions at the moment.
Anyway, as Jayjay said its not possible to upgrade to 8GB. A friend of me has a Satellite A300 and the user manual says that it can upgrade to 4GB or 2GB (depending on the chipset). So if you have a PM965/GM965/RS690M chipset you can upgrade it to 4GB. Otherwise you can only use up to 2GB.
I have upgraded my Toshiba notebook with Kingston RAM. This is high quality RAM and has a good compatibility. I never had problems with such modules.

  • Satellite-A300-23E - Can I install Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Win7 Premium

    Hello,
I bought a TOSHIBA laptop which has the following model: Satellite-A300-23E (Operational system is Windows Vista Home Premium)
I know that TOSHIBA offers an upgrade to Windows 7 but the problem is that they will provide me with Windows 7 Home Premium which I don't want.
Thus, I'm thinking to buy a full version of Windows 7 Ultimate (DVD).
Will be there any technical/software problems in case I remove the original operational system of the laptop and install Windows 7 Ultimate ?
By the way, I used Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and the result was positive !
    Please, I need your help

You should try Vista's drivers, as I know, they are compatible:
    For Webcam try this one:
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/webcam-en-20090422172230.zip
For touchpad, there are 2 drivers:
    Alps http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-en-20090320124756.zip
    Synaptics http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-en-20090320132707.zip
talking about touchpad drivers, it can be Alps or Synaptics for your model, or can be both.
