Windows 7 user account network and administration problem

Hello
I hope I am in the correct place and that my problem can be looked at, if not could I ask the moderator to move this post to the correct forum.
I have a very unusual problem that I hope can be resolved here.
I have 3 x Win 7 machines ( 2 x Pro and 1 x Ultimate ) all on my network but recently I tried to SFTP/SSH using winscp into one of them ( Pro ) only to find that access was denied – it took ages to find out why
– I finally noticed that the user name I created ( that has admin rights ) was not actually in the c:\Users\    folder what has happened is that all the files that should be in my created windows account are sitting in a folder called “user”which
is insidec:\Users\
I then created a folder that has the same user login nameI originally created, inside
c:\Users\
and copied all the files from the “user” folder and then tried to STFP/SSH into the original created user name but that did not work
I then tried this link
User Account - Hide using method 2 point 12, i.e adding (1) to the SpecialAccounts key, but that has not unhide my user account.
Using this cmd below
net user > Desktop\Users.txt
lists the users but I would expect to see i.e
Administrator ( followed by ) …. (created username)
What I am seeing however is below
Guest ( followed by ) …. (user)
When I use the command
lusrmgr.msc I see below :-
Name = user
Full name = my created windows login
Description = blank
I hope I can get some help here – I have cloned my disc in case of any mishaps but all I want to do is get my created win 7 user account working as it should, incidentally the login welcome screen appears on the
created account.

Hello
MeipoXu
I think that I have managed to get into a better position since your last email above, but not quite where I need to be.
I have posted 3 jpg's
jpg key 501 = c:\Users\D&S
jpg key1000 = c:\Users\User
jpg winscp = my SFTP attempt to my problem machine
key 1000 = c:\Users\User .. everything I try to do will not get rid of this key.
However c:\Users\D&S finally appeared, and I was able to SFTP login using winscp only to find the root reports as c:\Users\user.
What I should see is c:\Users\D&S but I can only access c:\Users\User and not c:\Users\D&S
( Does that all make sense ? )
The other thing I noticed was that key 501
is normally reserved for the guest account c:\users\guest
But it has taken over c:\Users\D&S ... if you can get me past this then I will be extremely grateful
I need to see the root reported back as c:\Users\D&S   not c:\Users\User
Turning to your post above and may I thank you for your help in trying to resolve this but before I proceed I need to be very clear about what you are suggesting I do.
Your Quote
Enable the built-in administrator account and login with it .To enable the built-in account:
net user administrator /active:yes
Q) Do I login with new the Admin account first then net user administrator /active:yes ?
Your Quote
Cut the whole folder and paste it to the Users folder , then navigate to the registry keys"ProfileImagePath" and change it  to "c:\Users\account name".
Q) Cut and past which folder ? is it the folder c:\Users\D&S ? and where am I pasting it as "D&S" already exists in c:\Users\D&S .. I already created it and copied all the contents from "user" to "D&S"
Your Quote
Restart the machine and login with that account and then have a check.
Q) That bit must mean login with D&S
Your Quote
If the issue has gone ,please run "net user administrator /active:no" to disable the built-in account.Again
A) Got that bit :-)
Apologies for the above but I have found to my cost that if you assume what something means it can turn out to be mis understood and I could end up creating more trouble for myself
I will submit the winscp jpg separately as you can only submit 2 jpg's per message
Thank you

  • When I moved all my music stored in my Windows 7 user account under the My Music folder  to my PC's 'Public Music' folder, I could no longer add/delete music or movies to my iPhone using iTunes. How do I fix this?

I have been synching my iPhone with iTunes without problems for a long time.  I also used iTunes to add/change/delete Music & Videos on my iPhone with tuch contents from my iTunes Library.
One day, I decided to move all my Music stored on my laptop's Windows 7 User Account under "My Music" to the Windows 7 User "Public"  under "Public Music".  When I opened iTunes, all my music was gone so I just added the folder "Public Music" to my iTunes Library, iTunes did some work and all my music was then back, listed in my iTunes.
However, when I would synch my iPhone now, when I view the music or movie contents in my iPhone using iTunes, I can no longer ADD Music or Movies to my iPhone and I cannot delete music or movies in my iPhone using iTunes anymore.
How do I fix this?  Please help.

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

  • Trial version, windows 7 user account control box comes up

Downloaded trial version of InDesign CS4 on Windows 7 64 bit OS system. I've also downloaded the most current update. Initial problem during installation of the program was that it wouldn't allow me to dowload all components, I think when I followed the technical link, it said something about having to edit the registry and something to do with ICC profiles.  I skipped that for now, didn't really want to go in and edit the registry until I played with the program a bit.
The question I have right now is, that while I can eventually get in the program and run it, when I click to start it, a Windows 7 User Account Control box pops up asking if I want to allow this program to make changes to my computer.  When I click details, it appears the Adobe certificate for this probram is not Windows 7 certified?? Does this happen to anyone else operating on Windows 7??  How do you get rid of that pop up box??  I know I can change my user account settings to not notify me, but that would leave my computer very vunerable so I rather not do that.
Only other program I had bring up that pop up on Windows 7 was Netscape 7, and that pop up box got pretty annoying so I had to go to another browser (yes I know Netscape was out dated, but I loved the email program vs. IE Outlook. I thought maybe it had something to do with my Norton antivirus and called their tech support and they told me no, it was a problem between Windows 7 and the program compatibility.

It's a brand new HP desktop PC with Windows 7 Professional factory insta
lled.  Yes, I'm the ony User, have Admin rights.
I looked at the certificate details when the pop up comes up and it lookes like the certificate is outdate, expired 12/10/09. I wonder if I'm getting an expired certificate because it's only a Trial version of InDesign CS4.
I went into the Windows User Account and tried to figure out the certificate manager, but I just don't understand it and can't figure out how to get it to allow this certificate so I don't get this annoying pop up window asking me if I want to allow this program to make changes to my computer everytime I start the program.

  • Query to retrieve windows domain user account

I am totally new to Oracle. Right now, I have a requirement which needs the windows domain user account and local user accounts to be found and linked to. I ve been searching on google, but no use. Frankly, I have no idea even what I am supposed to do and I am not sure what I wrote here is even framed correct. Please help me out. Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
I think you've made your first Oracle mistake: think that Oracle is working just the same as MS SQL Server :-)
First, before trying to do anything, you must read the TFM: Database Concepts(click) in order to begin to understand how Oracle works.
I'm going to try to explain fast and simple.
Oracle user accounts are different accounts than OS accounts. That is the first important point to get. A domain user "toto" will not automatically gat an Oracle "toto" account.
There are 3 types of user authentication:
. Password: typical authentication, no link between OS account and Oracle account
. External: User is authentified by the O.S. This means that the DBA has to create a special account that'll be "linked" to the O.S. account (whether it's a local or domain account)
. Global: The user is authentified by the enterprise directory service.
You can see these 3 approaches in the SQL Statements: CREATE USER doc(click). So, there is some way to link the Oracle user account to the O.S. user account, but not straight forward!
I need to verify if my oracle database user account is a windows domain user or not, if he/she is one, then if he/she is a local user account or a global user accountWhen I read this, the closest thing I can think of is the 3 types of authentication. And the info can be found in DBA_USERS (columns USERNAME, EXTERNAL_NAME and PASSWORD - obfuscated of course).
With these info, maybe can you see why your requirement is a bit strange? Anyway, read the references I linked and come back here with more questions / comments :-)
    HTH,
    Yoann.

why is my iphone 5 having network and battery problems after the ios 6.1.2?

I also forgot to mention that when it did have power, it wouldn't let me shut it off to try and conserve the battery life. Right when it powered down it would power right back up.

  • WRT300N and Windows XP User Accounts

I recently upgraded my router from an older linksys to the WRT300N. I got it all installed and it works wonderfully on my account (which is the computer administrator). Unfortunately, the two other user accounts on this Windows XP pc (both limited accounts) only seem to be able to connect at random. Sometimes when they logon the Linksys Wireless Monitor icon (which stays grey, indicating that it is not connected to the internet) that appears in the taskbar just keeps loading every couple of seconds. Pretty soon there are 20 or so of these filling the taskbar. Every time you put your mouse over them or try to click on them they disappear. The only way they can connect to the internet is if I logon before they do, or if they tell the computer to shutdown at the logon screen and then cancel it. Then when they logon the internet works perfectly.
Anyone have any idea what is happening here?

Doesn’t seem to be a router problem. You may have a Linksys wireless adapter installed on this computer with WLAN monitor. Since you have windows XP, uninstall this monitor, install the drivers without it and use WZC to connect to your wireless network. Make sure your users have network connection privileges.

  • Can't get a downloaded menu bar to show up in a Window's user account instance of Firefox other than the administrator account

In Windowx XP, one can create seperate user accounts or "profiles" so that different people can use a computer and have their files and profiles kept seperate or secured from others. The main account is the Administrator account.
My problem is I have non-Firefox toolbars that I have downloaded and installed on the Administrators account Firefox toolbar, but I can not get these to show up in any of the seperate user accounts that I have created.
Is there a way to make these show up? If so, what do I need to do?
    Thank you,
    Blaine Thompson

Toolbar extensions are installed to the user account / Profile, they're not installed globally. You need to install them separately to each user account / Profile.
If you know your way around in the Windows Explorer file system, you can drop an extension into the program files Firefox\extensions\ folder and the extension will be installed globally - as each Profile is launched. Right-click the installation button for extensions an use Save Link As... to save the extension to local disk.

Try to run the installer as Administrator via the right-click context menu (Run as Administrator).

  • Why don't java applets run when using Firefox 4.0 in a windows limited user account?

Java applications will not run in Firefox 4.0 when the windows user/process only has limited user access rights. The systems, I see this behaviour on have Windows XP Pro SP3, Firefox 4.0 and JRE 1.6.0_24 installed. The java application will run when when full administrative rights are present. This issue did not occur with the 3.6 firefox version that was previously installed.

The problem also exists with the newer Firefox 4.0.1 and Java 1.6.0_25 versions.
Enabling administrative rights resolves the issue ... though this defeats the purpose of using a limited user.
The underlying bug appears to be in the Firefox java plugin detection code. The issue is related to the detection code requiring write access to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org windows registry key. The limited user only has read access for this registry key. The behaviour was identified using the Sysinternals ProcessMonitor utility ... showed firefox calling an interface to create the registry key and getting an access denied response in the limited user case.
A more targeted workaround for the issue is to grant the limited user write access on the HKLM\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org windows registry key. This avoids the need to grant administrative rights to the user and enables the java plugin to be detected. That is, it works on the 2 XP systems where the java plugin wasn't being detected in limited user accounts.

  • Windows 7 user account is automatically locked every so often

    Hello,
On Friday I changed the password to access to my user account (Win7 runs below Windows 2008 Operative Server). At short time I changed it, after I have entered in the account with my new password, the account was locked unexplainably. I unlocked it again,
and again at a short time the account was locked again automatically.
I dont know what`s going on.
    Anybody knows why happens this?
    Thanks with anticipation.
    Regards

    Hello,
I dont think there is a scheduled task,  at least I am not consciously , ( I have also the role of the netowrk administrator).
Reading other threads I was afraid of Conficker worm has infected the server, but is issue only happens to me from the last Friday, never happened to me before.
I also have searched out, the event viewer of the Server, going to the Security log and filter by ID: 644, but there is no record of locked account showed, it seems that by that part everything is ok.
Is there any other audit application, that can show me where is the problem focused when the account is locked suddenly?
    Thanks

  • Windows 2000 user account migrate to new Windows 2012 R2 domain

    Hi all
I have a customer using Windows 2000 domain with many user accounts and file share service.
Now they want to use a new Windows 2012 domain without upgrade from old 2000 domain due to some hidden problem.
Customer requested to keep user name, password, uid for existing file share access.
May I know any tools for migrate user account from Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2012 domain?
    thx
    Q K

    Hi,
Can you please confirm your requirement, that is you will be using a new Windows 2012 domain with only the user accounts from Windows 2000 domain.
If the above text matches your requirement, I would suggest you the following steps,
    1. You can use CSVDE - command line tool to export the AD user information as CSV file from  Windows 2000 domain,

    2. Then, you can import the CSV file with required user attributes (domain details modified according to the target domain) to Windows 2012 domain using PowerShell as

  • New user account "other" and cant delete it

    hi everyone,
i dont know what caused that but since yesterday i have that new user account "other".
i tried to delete it with root-user but it isnt shown there, activate root-user and delete again after restart didnt work either.
is some of the professionals here able to help me? i bad need an idea to fix that. Its on my macbook pro and also at my macpro, both with OS 10.6.8
Only new software i installed was MindManger 9 Upgrade direct from MindJet.
    Thanks a lot ;-)

    Hi Atlan,
in the forum of Livescribe it is stated as a known problem
    They are working on it.
Also some suggestions from other user how to get rid of the account.
I have not tried that as it seems you than delete also the Livescribe account and desktop.
I just wait till an update from Livescribe comes out.
To not show that other account you can change settings for login screen
Just show field name and password.
Now, I believe showing th eother account cannot do harm.
It is not the root account. That's disabled as I have seen.
The only question: Can Livescribe takeover your computer?
And if so, hacking livescribe will possible mean that they can hack your system then?
So, the only rigid solution is: delelete all Livescribe etc. , go to timemachie and set back your system.
But only if I would know the other account can create problems I would take this major step.
For now I wait and see
So, lets see what Livescribe will do and at what speed!
    here the thread at Livescribe:

I have since few day´s MacKeeper installed, but even when I restart my Mac. I can´t use Internetsecurity because of permission problems I have no access to helperlaunch. My Account has Admin rights but helperlaunch get´s the information that I have not the rights to access. When I get a new Account with the same rights it will work. How can I change this at my Original Account?

Open disk utility and repair permissions on your boot volume.
Then, follow this to reset your user permissions:
Turn on the Mac whilst holding down cmd + R. You can let go once you see a spinning dial. You will then see the ”Mac OS X Utilities” screen.
On the top menu, click Utilities, then click Terminal.
    Type resetpassword and press Enter.
Click on your main hard drive.
In the dropdown box under “Select the user account” make sure to select your username.
Underneath where it says “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the Reset button.
Press cmd + Q to quit the Reset Password application.
Press cmd + Q again to quit the Terminal.
