Windows 7 Windows explorer and IE 8 resize perporty

Hi ALL
I got a problem that when I open the windows explorer/ IE8 in small size monitor like 15"  and then I log on the same  windows on another size monitor like 19". The Windows explorer / IE8 will keep the small size of windows.
is it the property of Windows? If so, can it be any disable this functions.
Best regards and thanks
Cyril

Hi Cyril,
Maffiow provides a good suggestion. You may check the properties of the short cut first.
In addition, as I know, you can force Internet Explorer (Windows Explorer) to launch in a custom size window is to close all IE (Windows Explorer) windows except the current one; then, resize and re-position the last window opened where you want it, and
exit Internet Explorer.
Now re-open Internet Explorer (Windows Explorer), and it should have automatically saved the last window size and position; keep in mind that if you have multiple IE (Windows Explorer)windows opened, the last one's size and position will be remembered.
With Normal it will open up the same size as it was when it was last closed down.
If the IE still opens in small window, here's the registry keys that would need to be edited, according to what I found:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
 -->delete the "Window_Placement" subkey
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Document Window\Maximized
-->change the value of this key to "Yes"
please backup Registry first.
How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

Hope it helps.

    Hi iTunes-1,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The error message you posted indicates a possible firmware update is needed for iTunes for Windows to work with your CD drive.
iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201852
Having outdated firmware can cause issues using CDs and DVDs with iTunes for Windows. Firmware is a type of software stored in a chip in hardware that can sometimes be updated.Identifying drives and firmware versions
To run CD Diagnostics, follow the steps in this document.
After following the steps to run CD Diagnostics linked above, look at section three to find out more about your optical drive(s).
Here is an example of what section three might look like:
In this example there are two drives. Drive E is a Samsung DVD-ROM drive with a model designation of SD-616 that has firmware version F000. Drive F is an NEC drive with a model designation of NR-7900A that has firmware version 1.08.Updating the firmware
If the optical drive you are using came with your computer, check with the support site for your computer for a firmware update. Typically you will need to go to the support website for the computer maker and click on a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your computer model designation and operating system version to see what updates are available. Then look through the available updates for a firmware update for your optical drive. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of your computer.
If the optical drive you are using came as a separate part (was not included with a computer), check the support site for the drive maker for a firmware update. Sometimes the manufacturer is not clear in the CD Diagnostics results. In that case, you may just have to search the Internet for the drive model designation. You can usually find out who made the drive by looking through the results of such a search. Once you have identified who made your drive, go to the support website for that company. Look for a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your optical drive model designation. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of the optical drive.Verifying that the firmware was updated
    Run CD Diagnostics again.
Examine the CD Diagnostics results. The firmware version for the drive should be the new version.

Also, you mentioned that you have been successful burning a CD with the Windows OS.  Make sure that you have closed all software programs that can access the CD burner so that there isn't a conflict for the drive.   Sometimes chaning the burn speed from "maximum" to 8x can also help in this situation.
I hope this information helps ...

  • User cannot access redirected Documents folder, but can connect to share in Windows Explorer and access folder on server

I am in the final stages of a cross-forest migration.  Users have Windows 7 workstations with redirected folders on a Windows Server 2012 box running in the old forest.  User accounts were not migrated.  The accounts in use have always
been in the "new" forest.  One of our challenges was the large volume of data in redirected folders.  I made sure users in the target forest had continued to have access to their redirected folders in the old forest and robocopied
the entire users share, copying the permissions with the files.  By doing incremental robocopies, we can get a final copy done now in about six hours.  The plan was simple: copy the files, do an incremental copy every night, on the night of the cutover
change the folder redirection policy Documents path from
    \\oldserver\users\%USERNAME% to
\\newserver\users\%USERNAME%. The policy is configured to NOT copy user files from the existing folder to the new redirected folder.  Everything was going well until I tested the policy change.  After the folder redirection policy is updated
and applied, the user cannot access the private Documents folder.  For example, user Chester Tester logs on as ctester.  I open Windows Explorer and click the Documents shortcut.  I see one subfolder, which is subfolder of Public Documents.
So I can look at Public Documents but when I click on the Documents folder (Under the Documents library link) I get an access denied error.  Now for the kicker, if I open another Windows Explorer window and edit the address bar to
\\newserver\users\ctester, I can navigate the Documents folder tree and see my thousands of documents. What the ....?
I'm hoping this is something really simple to fix!
    TIA

    HI Vivian,
Thank you for your reply.  Yes, the path in Group Policy Folder Redirection Root Path was updated to
\\NEWSERVER\users.  I had planned to point this to the distributed file system, so the first used was actually
\\domain\dfs\users.  To simplify things I have backed off to copying to just a normal share
    \\newserver\users.
We are using BASIC folder redirection and we create a folder for each user under the root path.
We did not want the policy to move content, as we were seeing users requiring 15-20 minute logon times  (or higher) after the policy is changed.
Grant the User exclusive right to Documents - Disabled
Move the contents of Documents to the new location - Disabled
    Related folder settings
    Video - Follow Documents
    Music - Follow Documents
    Pictures - Follow Documents
Now when I change the folder redirection from old server to new server I now have TWO My Documents folders in the user's redirection folder on the server.  The redirected Documents points to an empty folder set.  The copied folders with all user
data are there, but folder redirection refuses to recognize the original folder.
I am looking at the full view of the folder, nothing hidden, so I'm wondering how a folder can have two subfolders with the exact same name.  For now, I just want the redirection to move from the old server to the new server properly.  I deleted
the new My Documents folder, rebooted the user's workstation and tried again.  The behavior repeats itself, i.e., a new My Documents folder is always created when the redirection policy is changed from the old server to the new server.  The environment
has about 1500 users with approximately 1.3TB of data in the redirected Documents folders.  OUCH!

  • How to restrict users working on Windows 7 clients from accessing Windows Explorer and other systems in the network through Group Policy with a domain controller running on Windows Server 2008 r2

    Dear All,
We are having an infrastructure setup of around 500 client computers managed through group policy.
Recently the domain controllers have been migrated from Windows Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2.
Since this account requires extremely strict environment, we need to figure the solution for restricting the users from access anything locally.
It would be great if you can assist me with the following query.
How to restrict users logged on Windows 7 clients from accessing Windows Explorer and browsing other systems in the network through Group Policy with a domain controller running on Windows Server 2008 r2 ?

You cannot block explorer.exe when you do not replace the shell - the

I am trying to update ipod touch from ios 4.3.2 to ios 6.1.3.  I have it connected to my computer, and the summary in itunes indicates the update is available.  However, when I click "update", it opens Windows Explorer and waits for a file name to open.

I am not at that computer now, but I did check via windows update & with the check updates menu choice in the itunes program  - neither indicated a newer version of itunes is available. (it is a vista computer).
The itunes software on the computer displays my ipod & the current ios (4.3.2), and indicates a newer ios is available (6.1.3). When I choose "update", I am taken to Windows Exploer and prompted to choose a file to open. it is as if the "update" button has the incorrect code attached to it.
The ipod is working, but there are several app I would like to install, but I can't with the current ooperating system.

  • ITunes Freezing Both Windows Explorer and Itself!

    Hello!
I understand that this has been happening a lot lately due to the new iTunes version (or rather, the newest version of Quicktime?). I'm a little afraid to reinstall iTunes now because as of recently, it's been freezing up my Windows Explorer and genuinely messing up my entire PC. I've had to do a factory reset to it twice in order for me to actually use my computer again...
So, I was wondering if there was actually a fix for this now. And if there isn't, are there any ways to avoid having my PC rendered useless?
Here are my PC specs, btw:

  • Reader X integration with Windows Explorer and protected mode

    Hello all.
I'm having some problems with Adobe Reader X under Windows 7 and it seems that I need to disable protected mode. I disabled it by unchecking the related option in edit-preferences, also I created the registry key for the local user (bProtectedMode = 0).
After doing that, the protected mode seems to be disables when I open pdf documents with Reader X, but it's still enabled when previewing documents thumbnails in windows explorer. The issue is that when I open a folder containing pdf files and left click or right click them, two AcroRd32.exe processes spawn and it seems to me that it's a protected mode behaviour (broker process + sandboxed renderer process).
I'd like to know if it's possible to fully disable protected mode so that it remains disabled even when I'm navigating directories with Windows Explorer and documents are previewed. My current Adobe Reader version is 10.1.3.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Fernando,
Here's a statement that hopefully helps or at least solves your mystery:
While Protected Mode can be disabled for PDFs viewed with the product, Adobe continues to protect you when 3rd party software invokes a Reader process; that is, Protected Mode sandboxing cannot be disabled for shell extensions. For example, when you use Windows Explorer to preview a PDF in the Preview Pane, it starts a Reader process to display the preview. In such cases, Task Manager shows that two AcroRd32.exe processes spawn and that the operation is occurring with Protected Mode enabled.

  • While browsing Firefox, display another htm*file by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer and not getting the erro message "Firefox is already running (etc) "

While browsing the Web with Firefox, I often want to view an htm (or html etc) file that is recorded on my computer, by double-clicking it in my Windows Explorer, hoping it will open automatically a new tab.
When I try this now, I get the error message "Firefox is already running (etc)" .
In my current setup, Firefox is associated with the htm and html file name extensions.
If, instead of double-clicking the filename in the Explorer, I choose the Firefox menu item "Open a file", this works OK.
In old versions of Firefox, double-clicking a filename in the Windows Explorer or File Manager caused Firefox to open a new window every time which was ok.
I have the same problem with Thunderbird, which I have associated with the "eml" file name extension. How can I view a series of recorded ".eml" files with Thunderbird when Thunderbird is already running ? Thank you.

The target field of the desktop shortcut is "D:\C_Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" (no switch)
The system/environment variable MOZ_nO_REMOTE is now 0, changed from 1, but I can see no difference. Maybe I need to restart the system to get a change ?
    Thank you.

  • Creative Cloud Desktop install crashes Windows Explorer and hangs

This all started with my inability to activate Adobe Acrobat on my computer after wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the OS.
I had no trouble initially downloading or installing anything from the Adobe Creative Cloud. I ran several apps and they worked (albeit in trial mode for a day or two)
And then the Initial Problem: Trying to Activate Adobe Acrobat failed to get pass the sign-in screen.
It would hang for about 30 minutes and then come back to the error that the computer's clock must be incorrect or an error with the Internet connection. (It's a standard error documented on Adobe's site that says you need to make sure your computer can really get to all of Adobe's activation servers/sites/etc. I double-checked everything in the troubleshooting list to be sure but found nothing wrong with the computer or the ability to get to Adobe's sites.
Exasperated. I went online for tech support. It was definately Level 1 support (had me checking all the stuff I had already spent an hour checking - and had already told him I tested it all).
Anyway, I spent an hour on the chat with Adobe Tech Support going through the usual stuff.
He had me check virus programs, computer clock, conenctions to Adobe sites (like the licensing servers). But nothing ever helped or worked. Then he told me to try going directly to the Adobe Creative Cloud site and trying to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop manager. I did that but it hangs when it launches the manager on the initial window with a black/grey Creative Cloud bar at the top (with the tool drop-down on the right side) but the rest of the window never loads.
After an hour of going in circles I decided it would be better to try again later with someone in second-level support.
In the meantime, I uninstalled ALL Adobe applications. There is no Flash-Player, no Acrobat Reader - nothing from Adobe in my programs list.
I then tried to download and install the Adobe Application Manager. It works up to the point where it launches the Creative Cloud Desktop tools and then hangs at the same place.
There is a Creative Cloud window with the normal black/grey bar at the top - but the rest of the window (where you would normally see and load the apps from) stays empty.
I have rebooted the computer several times to be sure it is a fresh start. That has not helped at all. One additional thing I have noticed in these multiple attempts is that when the Creative Cloud Desktop Manager installer gets about 95% done, it causes Windows Explorer to crash (not Internet Explorer but Windows Explorer). Once Windows Explorer resets, Creative Cloud continues the installation but then opens the window (above) that has nothing but the black/grey header.
I'm struggling for what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Right now I am paying $50 a month for something I can't even install or use.
For what it's worth, the system is an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. 8GB of RAM and plenty of HDD space. All security updates applied and Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1. I doubt that any of that last line is relevant since I could run all of this with no problem before wiping the hard drive AND it was all running with no problem - other than Activating Acrobat at the start of this whole issue.

    Jim,
You are a lifesaver! I can't think of how many additional hours of frustration you just saved me - but Thank You!!
After posting, I had determined (like you said), that Explorer must be doing that for a reason. I created a new user profile on the system (added a user temporarily) and observed the same behavior of Windows Explorer (stopping/starting) but then continuing to work as it should. At that point I knew the answer was somewhere in the user's profile but I would have had no idea where to look. The opm.db file was indeed the culprit.
I sure do appreciate the excellent help.

  • How can i tidy up folders in windows explorer and have the new names etc recognized by itunes?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have spent quite a while searching how to do this...
For example: In Windows Explorer, 2 different R.E.M. cd's have come up as different artists names, R.E.M and R.E.M_
Although in iTunes they are both displayed correctly, there are many, many other examples.
One more - a Celtic Box set with 4 cd's... 1-3 are in a 'Various' folder, and cd 4 is in a 'Compilation' folder.
It's not the end of the world, but it's driving me a bit mad, as my ocd is starting to kick in!!
Does anyone have any tips please?
    Thanks in advance

  • Windows explorer and Administrative rights

    Hello,
I'm looking for a way to make windows start on an other program than desktop. Is there a way to customize the windows explorer so my program would replace the desktop without affecting the explorer functionalities. I also want to know if there is a way to
give the User Access Control exceptions so a program doesn't need to wait for the user to click 'yes' on the uac prompt to run.
    Thanks.

well, in my opinion, it's maybe but almost impossible to achieve this goals. Windows Explorer is a Shell when system enabled GUI mode. That's belongs to Windows kernal design and programmer have no rights to access.
Actually, there is only one condition we don't need Windows Explorer: boot Windows into CMD mode.
On the other hand, even if there was method to do this, Microosft doesn't support this behavior, because in case a program pretend itself to be Windows Explorer, the current system user profile information was probably stole by Criminals.

Before I downloaded Photoshop CC, I could click on a .png file in windows Explorer (not explore) and it would open in Photoshop.  Now PS CC is not an option (in windows explorer  even if I click " browse" for a program to open so cannot set it as a default. . Also  PS CC is not an option if I want to right click to open a jpg in photoshop.   RAW (.crw) files do open in photoshop CC so no problem there. .  My tech said he could program windows so I can auto open .png and right click to open jpg (in Win Explorer);  are there other options???  (Slower  to open photoshop CC first and open the files there.)

I called TrendMicro, thinking it might be a virus and it was not. They spent 3 hours with me on the phone trying to help me solve this, but they came up with nothing. And they DID NOT charge me anything for all this time and help over the phone. That is one hell of a company that can do that, while a money hunger company called Microsoft would!

    Hello Jerry,
Thanks for answering this and trying to help me with this. I have been dealing with this problem for over 2 weeks and my bald head is getting thinner by the minute!!
The computer is a refurbished one from Toshiba after the main one, kept crashing and they decided to give me a refurbished, step down model. Been having trouble with this also and I fixed the problems it had myself up until this one. I am about a total wreck because of this, but here is the information you wanted!
    It is a QOSMIO

I am also ticked, because Toshiba has put my working drive to D and the backup files on Drive C. This does not make any sense and why they did it, I do not know!
Thanks again and I hope this is what you need, if not please let me know.

  • Windows Explorer and Time Machine

I lost the ability to access my company's intranet from my Mac. Sooo, I moved to using my XP machine mostly for my work-related activities. For the last week, I've been simply using my Mac as a file server, accessing the files from Windows Explorer.
I just purchased and installed Leopard and started using Time Machine which brings me to my question:
Since using Time Machine (just backed up this am), I'm detecting a very noticeable delay in the responses of my actions within Windows Explorer that affect files on the Mac. Are others observing this as well? Any remedies that come to mind?
FWIW, the Mac has always been a very responsive file server and this change coincides perfectly with the use of Time Machine.
    TIA,
    David

The easiest and fastest way to do that would be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your current system onto the external drive. You can do that using only the Finder and Time Capsule, but it will be very slow and a bit of a hassle.
