Windows 7 won't download on Parallels

I wanted to run windows on my mac and did not want to use bootcamp ( I have very little computer knowledge and bootcamp looked really difficult). So, I bought Parallels 8 for my Mac, as well as windows 7. After a lot of waiting, they both arrived. Parallels appears to work fine. However, when I try to download the windows, it won't go past 0%. It normally stays stuck like that for a while. I can hear the windows disc staring up and then stopping. Then starting and stopping, constantly. After about half an hour a error message comes up saying 'Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.'
I have restarted the installation 4 times and nothing has happened. I have spent quite a bit of money on both windows and parallels and I really need this to work. I've looked online and there's quite a few other cases of this problem, but they're on actual windows PC's, not parallels on a mac.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Even though the Mac can't directly run Windows software, a DVD with Windows software and/or installers on it will still mount in the Finder and you can look at the contents and open any folders you see to view their contents. It sounds like the Windows 7 disk may be defective so when Parallels attempts to read it to start the installation, it fails. On the other hand, does your optical drive work with other CD's and DVD's so that you can be sure the optical drive is OK? If Parallels came on a DVD too (these days such software normally arrives via the Internet) at least that confirms operation of the optical drive.
If the drive is working properly, where did you get Windows 7? If it was from Microsoft or a recognized retailer, return it for a replacement.

Using Boot Camp I installed Windows XP Professional SP3 and ran the Boot Camp disc. Now the problem is Windows, which I've never used before. No other problems with browsing, but now that you mention it I remember clicking on an icon in the lower right corner that said something wasn't connected properly, but I disregarded it since the internet was working (I'll look for it in a minute when my sisters get off the laptop I was using).
I just figured that the issue could be solved by going into System Preferences, or whatever the Windows XP equivalent is. Whenever I click a download link, a window briefly flashes as if it's going to download, but nothing ever does.

Installing Windows 7 (from a download) using Parallels?

Hi, first post.
Ok so I've downloaded and installed Parallels to be able to run Windows 7. I then downloaded windows 7 from the Microsoft website. I now have a windows7.exe and two setup.box files on my desktop.
To be able to install Windows 7 using parallel do I need the windows install file to be an image file or is there a way around it?

Where did you download Windows 7 from the MS website? It should be an ISO (disc image). I'm pretty sure you need a disc image (or an actual disc).

Windows XP won't install on Parallels

I've successfully installed Parallels on my MacBook (2.2GHz) and subsequently wanted to install my copy of Windows XP. When the Virtual Machine loads it says it can't boot from the hard drive, floppy or CD/DVD Drive even though the Windows XP disc is inserted on the Mac and I can see it on the desktop. It labels the error as "512." Does anyone know how to fix this?

Make sure you have the most recent version of Parallels. Also, I think may need to tell Parallels to "capture" the disk. I prefer to use Disk Utility to make an image of the installer disk and then tell Parallels to boot from that image. The install will go much, much faster.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

Trying to install on MacBookPro with Parallels and Windows 8.1. Downloaded the CreativeCloud.exe but says I can't install from network drive

I sometimes like to use Photoshop CC and Lightroom on the Windows side of my MacBookPro with Parallels. I had to reinstall Parallels and also Windows 8.1 recently and am trying to reinstall some of the software that I had previously on the Windows side. I downloaded the CreativeCloud.exe program and when I try to install it from the Windows side, get a message that I can't install Creative Cloud from a network drive. Where can I put the CreativeCloud.exe so I can install it?

You probably need to check your drive setup for the Parallels environment. Nothing to do with Adobe.

Some pdf & doc won't download... tried fixes under 'FF keeps opening many tabs or windows' but none worked... these files open in Safari & Google Chrome.

Some pdf & doc files won't download. The "You Have Chosen to Open" pop-up appears but when I hit 'Save File", it goes away and the file is not saved. The corrupted files show up in mac download file as .part but don't show up in ff download file. Tried suggestions in "Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows" on this website but none worked.

This is most likely Firefox's new "built in" PDF Viewer giving you the trouble.
First, in Firefox, type "about:config" (minus the quotes) in the address bar. This will open the Firefox configuration file. You'll see a warning. Click that you'll be careful, and open the configurer.
At the top there is a search bar. Type "js" (again, minus the quotes).
In the list of results you'll see pdfjsdisabled with a value of "false". Right click it and select Toggle to make it read "true".
Click Firefox>Preferences and under the Applications tab, scroll down to Adobe Acrobat Document. Click the drop down on the right side and choose "Use Adobe Reader (default)".
That should take care of it for you.

Safari extensions download in Parallels Desktop Windows format

For some reason, when I download a new extension for Safari 5, it downloads in Parallels Desktop Windows format (the icon has the two red parallel lines on it, and clicking on it opens Parallels Desktop). How can I get it to download in the correct format for my Mac's version of Safari 5?

if so - use Finder-Get Info on one to change the 'open with' to Safari & choose 'change all'

I'm running on Firefox 6.0.2. Firefox sent a (pop-up) download window saying Firefox recommends downloading a fix immediately. I clicked on it, window said downloading, ran for several hours until I closed it, unfinished. Trouble for me?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

Very frustrating. After using Lync 2010 for the last year it did an auto-update and at first said it was missing a file. So I uninstalled and reinstalled and now am told that "Only windows XP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are supported. Please upgrade

This was finally figured out by someone internal to my company, a Lync specialist. This is what the solution was (in I.T. speak - sorry, I'm not I.T.):
Resolution: Checked and found COE was configured to run on XP SP3 where the minimum requirement is SP3
He definitely was opening files and checking boxes way beyond my simple "uninstall" and "reinstall".

You should be able to get the CS3 programs installed and running on the new pc since CS3 is spec-ed for Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Downloading the programs does not require a serial number. You can find them here: Download CS3 products but you will need the serial number to activate the programs. You might be able to find that thru your Adobe account online.
You will not be able to install the CS5 Mac version on a PC and you won't be able to trade it to a PC version either due to it being an older version. Trades are allowed only for the latest version (CS6)

Help: contacts won't download/sync from Mobile Me to iPhone?

My new iPhone won't download old contacts from MobileMe. It will sync any new contacts or calendar event I add to either the iPhone or Mobile Me, but not the existing ones.
Basically, I bought my first iPhone a couple of days ago. I just followed the prompts and ended up sync'ing it with gmail as well as pulling all the contacts off my old SIM and phone. But I ended up with lots of duplicate contacts. So I set up a Mobile Me account and uploaded all the contacts from the iPhone, no problems. Then I cleaned up all my contacts on Mobile Me, got rid of duplicates etc.
Then I reset my iPhone to clear all data so I could start afresh (I've only had it a day or two so there wasn't much to lose). I thought I would be able to easily pull all the nice, clean contacts down from the cloud. But the only contacts that will sync are new ones, not the old ones.
If I add a contact on Mobile Me, it downloads to the iPhone. If I add a new contact on the iPhone, it uploads to Mobile Me. But the hundreds of old contacts I have amassed over many years and many different mobile phones are stuck in the cloud and won't come down!
All these contacts only ended up on Mobile Me after being sent from my iPhone, so not sure why it won't take them back.
I'm on a PC. I have sync'd the iPhone with iTunes since I reset it. And I have downloaded the latest version of the iPhone OS since I reset the phone. I have tried turning off all sync'ing and then turning it on again - the iPhone asked if I wanted to merge data, I said yes, but it didn't download any of the old contacts.
Obviously sync works, but why won't it get my old contacts?!
The only thing I haven't tried is resetting all sync data - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1497. However, how can I back up my Mobile Me data before I erase it? I didn't think my Mobile Me contacts would sync with a PC?

Turn off contacts in MobileMe on the iPhone and choose keep contacts on the iPhone
Connect iPhone to iTunes and enable sync contacts to Windows Address Book or Outlook 2003 or higher. Now there should be a copy of the contact on the computer.
Make sure you have installed and configured the MobileMe control panel on your computer. And set it up to sync contacts. Choose the best copy(Cloud or Computer)for the initial sync(can be from Cloud to computer or computer to cloud).

Once the computer and Cloud have the correct info then slide contacts back to on within the Mail Contacts Calendars on the iPhone and choose replace iPhone with info from the Cloud.
Uncheck Sync Contact with computer within iTunes on Info tab(if you do not then you will get duplicates).

Unless you have a copy of the iPod backup file from the previous computer installation you are out of luck. If yo have that file move it to your computer and restore the iPod from that backup. Otherwise, you will have to restore the iPod to factoery defaults/new iPod and lose all your app date. That is the way it is since the iPod sees the computer as a new computer/iTunes library. That backup file is located:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
