Windows 7 won't start in bootcamp, but will in VM fusion

I have installed windows 7 using bootcamp on my iMac 25.1 2010 , if i try to start the computer from windows partion there is just a white flashing underscore that stays on the screen until i restart.
I have installed VMware fusion and i am able to run windows from there when selecting the bootcamp option.
Any idea how i can fix this ? thanks

First: delete your windows
Second: do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
Thirt: keep your usb-stick in your mac and install windows with bootcamp

  • Windows 7 won't start in Bootcamp

    Hello Everyone:
Situation: A few weeks ago I installed OEM Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit through Bootcamp 4 on my iMac running OS X 10.7.5. I was able to successfull install MS Office and other software and run them in the windows environment.
Issue: Over the last few days, whenever I've tried to reboot into Windows after restart (pressing "opt" key), the OS goes directly into Mac. I don't get the screen giving the choice of Mac / Windows / Bootcamp which would be normally expected. I also installed Parallel 9 Desktop for Mac and that too is not showing up the virtual machine for Windows.
Question: Before I delete Windows and reinstall, I wanted to reach out to the community and ask if I should run some more diagnostics to figure out the issue? Would greatly appreciate your insights.

Is there an option in System Preferences > Startup Disc to start in Bootcamp/Windows?

  • I have just installed 10.7 and bootcamp is no longer visible on my desktop, nor can i start computer in windows mode. I started the bootcamp 4.0 upgrade assistant, but don't want to wipe windows 7 out and lose my data. Any suggestions?

  • Windows 7 Won't Start Up from Boot Camp

I got a new 21.5" iMac and set up a boot camp partition for a Windows 7 64-bit installation. It worked. I installed the latest boot camp drivers into the Windows 7, which was wonderful because it fixed the display to match my iMac's specs. Then I installed the latest Parallels 5 and had it recognize that Windows 7 system, and have been using it without problem. But I tried this evening to use boot camp to start up the Windows 7 system by itself and although I got a choice of Mac OS or Windows via the option-startup process, and selected the Windows startup, Windows 7 won't start up that way. I just get a black screen with a blinking white horizontal line in the upper-left corner. I keep waiting but it never gets past this. Tried turning it off and starting again, still no luck. Booted back into Mac side and Parallels VM of the installation still works.
Any help appreciated. I should still be able to boot into Windows 7 straight using boot camp, no?

I should add that I just installed 8GB of RAM to the 4GB the iMac came with. Possibly now that the total machine has a 12GB of RAM the Windows 7 system is confused and can't start up?

  • Windows 7 won't start.

I have a mac pro and use to boot camp to use windows 7.  Windows 7 won't start and it's stuck in a loop.  How can I prevent windows 7 from booting and get snow leopard to boot?
    thanks for your help!

    Hi,
reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option key to get a Selection Screen on which you can choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
    Regards
    Stefan

    Hey there @pepsitruck
I understand you cannot print from your desktop however, you can print from your laptop.
Could you please run the Print and Scan Doctor again and let me know the results or post a screen image of the results?
This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.
You can also try manually stopping and restarting the print spooler and try printing from Notepad afterwards.
    1. Click Start
    2. Type "Services" in the search field.
    3. Open SERVICES
    4. At the bottom, click "Extended View"
    5. Search for Print Spooler
    6. Right-click it and choose Properties
    7. Select as Automatic in the drop down box, close the Window
    8. Right click on Print Spooler and choose "Stop", wait until it stops and then right click again and "Start".
    9. Close out of Services and try your print again.
When you get to your response, please include which version of Windows you're running please.
Which Windows Operating System am I running?

  • Bootcamp with Windows 7 won't start with upgraded RAM

    Hello!
I upgraded my RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb.
OS X works fine but bootcamp with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 wont start. The screen goes black and white cursor is blinking at the top left corner. I have waited several minutes but nothing happens.
When I remove the ram I just installed, Windows 7 will start normally.

Are there any other options here? This is quite frustrating. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my Bootcamp, and upgraded my RAM from 4GB to 8GB (bought Crucial RAM, which should be completely compatible). When I try to boot Windows, I get the blinking cursor hung. This is the ONLY thread I have been able to find that relates directly to this issue. I started to re-install Windows from the bootable install disc, but that tells me it will re-install Windows, and save all the old data in a volume called "Windows.old" and that I can access this data but "will not be able to use my old version of Windows." Maybe that's OK. Since I use my Windows partition exclusively for gaming and 3D sculpture work, I am pretty sure I can just pull all the appropriate data and re-install it in the new version of Windows. But I am leery of going through all this after reading the tale of woe told here that says that even re-installing with 8 GB RAM fresh does not work. Does anyone know of any other resources or options here? I can't even get to "Safe" mode - just a black screen and the blinking cursor.....arrrrgh! Any help greatly appreciated!

  • Windows Vista won't start or install - firmware or EFI problem?

I am running Snow Leopard on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, late 08 - early 09 model. I have been using boot camp to run Vista for the past year with no problem. This morning, I tried to start up Vista and it wasn't working. I got the option key screen to choose between OSX and Vista, but after choosing vista, the cursor blinks once and I get a black screen. The computer is quiet and nothing seems to be running.
At first I thought it was a boot camp problem. So I went into OSX, de-partitioned the drive, and repartitioned it. I then stuck the Vista install disk in, and clicked through the boot camp assistant to reinstall. The computer restarted to begin the reinstall process, but instead of starting the install disk, it did the same thing - a single blip of cursor, and then a black screen.
I'm not technically savvy, but that seems like it's not a Windows problem, but a firmware or EFI problem. The computer will run OSX, but it won't run boot camp and it won't start from a CD-ROM. The only other steps I've taken are to run Software Update and the Disk Utility from Safari. Neither helped. I'm out of warranty and would love to be able to fix it without spending tons of money. Any help is appreciated.

open terminal, run the following command:
    sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
(press return, enter admin password, press return again)
output should look something like this:
    Betsy7:~ kj$ sudo gpt -r show -l /dev/disk0
    Password:
gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
    1 1 Pri GPT header
    2 32 Pri GPT table
    34 6
    40 409600 1 GPT part - "EFI System Partition"
    409640 316879664 2 GPT part - "RAPTOR"
    317289304 262144
    317551448 200889128 3 GPT part - "RAPTOR2"
    518440576 262144
    518702720 67287033 4 GPT part - "XP"
    585989753 82582
    586072335 32 Sec GPT table
    586072367 1 Sec GPT header
    The first line:
"gpt show: /dev/disk0: Suspicious MBR at sector 0"
should be identical to mine. If the "Suspicious MBR"
line is missing, then it is a GPT problem, which indicates
that the MBR information is missing or more likely corrupt.
also the second and third lines will read:
    start size index contents
    0 1 PMBR
    instead of:
    start size index contents
    0 1 MBR
If the MBR info in the GPT partition is corrupt or missing,
then (obviously) Windows won't be bootable.
The only tool reliably capable (that I know of) of repairing (rebuilding) the GPT/EFI
without wiping off all partitions and repartitioning the drive
    is iPartition:
    http://www.coriolis-systems.com/iPartition.php
The command line program "gpt" is incomplete, so use
    it at your own risk:
    BUGS
The development of the gpt utility is still work in progress. Many necessary features
are missing or partially implemented. In practice this means that the manual page,
supposed to describe these features, is farther removed from being complete or useful.
As such, missing functionality is not even documented as missing. However, it is believed
that the currently present functionality is reliable and stable enough that this tool can be used
without bullet-proof footware if one thinks one does not make mistakes.

  • HT1461 I have installed the Windows 8 on my MacBook using BootCamp, but I cannot install drivers for Windows now

I have installed the Windows 8 on my MacBook using BootCamp already, but I cannot install drivers for Windows now: I've got only BootCamp 3 disk and it doesn't goo even if I start it using compatibility options. And my BootCamp on Mac didn't offer me to burn cd with drivers for windows as I saw in many instructions. How can I resolve the problem? Thanks a lot.

Go back to Boot Camp: on the 2nd page you get this:
Download the support software and as Windows is already installed uncheck the 2nd box.

  • IPod Touch not recognized in Windows & iTunes won't start unknown error -50

I have been trying to fix a connectivity issue with my iPod touch for almost 6 hours now. I've read all over the iPod Touch forums and none of the solutions worked for me. I've installed and uninstalled iTunes multiple times and nothing seems to work.
Also, earlier this evening iTunes was working but it wouldn't recognize my iPod touch although it would charge. Now that iTunes won't start I'm also having problems with charging my iPod and at no time, was my iPod ever recognized in 'My Computer'.
Someone please help! I'm at my wits end without being able to use and update my iPod. All help/insight/suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance!

  • Windows Defender - won't start

Running Win 8.1.  I had Defender running at one time.  I loaded Lavasoft Ad-Aware and discovered it loaded in compatibility mode and made itself secondary to Defender, but Defender turned itself off.  I removed Ad-Aware but now Defender won't start.  I rebooted and Lenovo Solution Center says the following --
Antivirus software is installed on your computer but is not yet activated. You need to activate the software to start protecting your computer against malware, viruses and other threats that might harm your computer.
I clicked 'Enable antivirus' withing the Solution Center, but the same message comes up.  I tried two methods I found at Microsoft help and neither worked.  How do I get Defender turned on?
Moderator comment: New thread created. Subject edited to clarify.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Defender is back on but in an unexpected way.  I removed Spybot, rebooted,re-installed Ad-Aware, removed Ad-Aware browser protection while the main Ad-Aware was still loading.  When it finished loading the Action Center came up and said both antiviruses were turned off.  I tried to turn on Ad-aware thinking I might stick with it if it would run normally.  It did not turn on so I tried to turn on Defender and to my surprise it came on without removing Ad-aware.  Thank you for the help.  I'll remove Ad-aware and stick with Defender.  I've not seen Defender catch any malware so I'm tempted to reload Spybot.  You said it could be done.  I'm just concerned that Defender is tempermental about any app that does what it's supposed to do.
