Windows 7 won't start.

I have a mac pro and use to boot camp to use windows 7.  Windows 7 won't start and it's stuck in a loop.  How can I prevent windows 7 from booting and get snow leopard to boot?
thanks for your help!

Hi,
reboot your Mac while holding down the Alt/Option key to get a Selection Screen on which you can choose to boot into OSX.
Once in OSX go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.

  • Windows won't start after downloading driver.

I recently installed an audio driver for my Lenovo Ideatab Lynx but after restarting the device, windows won't start up. It shows the lock screen but after unlocking, the screen stays blank and wont show the start menu. I think i accidentally installed the driver from the windows 8 page when i do have windows 8.1 on my device. Is this why this is happening and how can I fix it?

The only way it will start is in safe mode.
So you know how to get to the Advanced Boot Options menu using F8. Go there and choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu, choose Startup Repair.
    I've tried several things..
If that doesn't fix the normal boot, tell us what you've already tried. There's no point in our repeating all those.

  • Portege R830 - Windows won't start after I install Comodo Firewall

    Good afternoon,
I purchased today a Portege R830, and after the Windows configuration was over, the first program I installed was the popular free firewall Comodo. After I rebooted, Windows 7 wouldn't start anymore. It would get stuck on the user login screen and I know it's a problem with the firewall because if I make a system restore to the restore point created by the firewall installer, the windows will start again.
So I ask if there is any incompability between the firewall and some software on the Toshiba. Has anyone ever had this problem? I've been trying to solve this issue all day long with no results. I even re-installed Windows 7 using the Toshiba recovery and the issue persists. I really love Comodo, and I want this firewall on my laptop, but Windows just won't start!
Any help would be very apreciated.

    Hi jillefsky,
Have you disabled the Windows firewall before you started with Comodo firewall installation? As far as I know Portege R830 is delivered with preinstalled McAfee security software and you should remove this program before you install any other security tools.
Generally speaking this issue has nothing to do with Toshiba and its recommendable to contact Comodo directly. Maybe they know about this issue so they can give you a proper answer.
But I dont understand why this program is so important for you. Windows has already an internal firewall so such programs are not necessary in my opinion. Just install a good antivirus program like AntiVir and activate automatic Windows updates. Thats all!

  • K9N4 SLI - three short beeps - windows won't start

My system has been running for at least a year without problem. I took the hard drives out and put them into a new system and put 2 other hard drives into this system. I reloaded windows, but after the second boot of the install process, windows tries to start, then reboots, even when trying safe mode. I tried 2 different versions of windows. These disks were fine in another system. When it boots, I get three short beeps. I have NO USB devices connected. I only have 2 hard drives, floppy, DVD, and video card. I read elsewhere in these forums that the three beeps are usb devices, and I did have 2 connected, but now have unplugged them. I get 3 beeps either way. I have completely removed power to reset it, no change.
The system I put the old drives into is working fine, and I pulled these drives out of a working system. The windows install runs fine until after the second boot, tried both XP home and XP Pro. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a hardware problem, but why would windows get that far and no further. I've tried setting the BIOS to optimized defaults, then just enable RAID, since I'm using a mirror.

Oh, sorry! I forgot to answer.
Beeping in this case has nothing to do with Windows or the hard disks, more than that the new ones probably consume more power. Beeping is almost always memory related, but it can also be the graphic card's memory. The PSU is probably not enough any longer. (My Father has got a 380W Antec PSU, but his system is five years old.) http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=NjM=  ...And:
    Max. Load 20A  20A  12v1 17A  12V2 15A
But before you buy a new PSU, in desperation, you might also try these troubleshooting steps:
    - Minimise the system. Use but motherboard, processor and memory and the PSU of course.
    - Use only one stick of memory, in the memory slot closest to the processor.
    - Make sure all power cables are firmly in place, one is needed close to the processor for example.
    - Check the dust situation - but I think you have moved around inside so much already it should not be a problem.
This is not to be rude, but occassionally when you work inside a case, your negative energy - or positive  - create an electrical pulse, bigger than the system can handle. Particularly memory/graphics memory chips are affected. If that is the reason, you can only hope a long period of inactivity and without connection to electricity (front or back) helps. You even have to take the CMOS battery out. Long period? At least over night.

  • Satellite P20-761: Windows won't start - it loads agp.sys then freezes

When I switch my laptop on it begins with the Toshiba logo as if starting up but then the screen turns black with the following message:
We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware of software change might have caused this...... etc. etc.
I then have a list of options to choose from:
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
    Last Known Good Configuration
    Start windows normally
If I choose any of the safe mode options the screen runs through a list of files ending with: multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVE RS\agp.sys then freezes.
If I choose any of the last two options the screen simply goes black and nothing happens.
I am desperate not to loose any data that I have accumulated on the laptop. Silly me didn't bother with backups.
The only disks I can find that came with the laptop are "tools and utilites" and "product recovery dvd-rom". Seeing as I'm not technically minded I'm frightened to try any in case I loose any of my more important files.
PLEASE HELP!!! Replies need to be plain English as like I say I'm not really technical. Thanks. Fingers crossed.

Hi there, it appears Windows has corrupted itself and cannot boot I too have experienced this 2 times with my A60-181. Unfortunately the only solution is to re-install Windows using the Product Recovery DVD but be aware this will format your hard drive erase all your personal files.
Getting access you files from an unbootable OS isn't difficult a boot disk/CD would be needed the only question is which one do you use. I would personally recommend BartPE boot CD this will provide you with a basic environment to run Windows programs not only that but it has full NTFS read/write support, access to USB flash drives and LAN networking. To create a BartPE CD you need a copy of Windows XP with at least SP1 unfortunately not everyone can meet this requirement but you maybe able to obtain a image file from unofficial channels :) Alternatively you could use a Linux boot CD something like Knoppix to get access to you files and to save to a USB flash drive.

  • My windows won't start

my daughter recently updated our windows 8 to windows 8.1. Now our windows will not start, it fails to recognize the key. Do I really have to pay for tech support when your update broke my computer? This is the biggest racket I have seen. At base, its
unethical. I can't use programs because it says Microsoft.net failed to start. I really think this is disgraceful. whoever put out this broken update should feel real proud of themselves.

    Hello,
    I'd ask in the
Windows 8.1 forum on Microsoft Community.

  • Fusion VM (Windows) won't start after migration to new Mac

    Friends,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro, onto which I have migrated my old Mac.  I had Windows 7 installed as a VM on the old Mac, but when I try to start it on the new machine I get no response. Fusion starts and I see the black screen with the "PLAY" icon, but clicking on it does nothing.
Is this due to a change in my system's environmental variables? I know, for instance, that the name of the partition on the new MacBook is different to the name on the old Mac.  Where/how would I correct for this on the Mac or in Fusion?
    Thank you

Windows in VM is going to know it's on a different machine, so you'll still have to hop through Microsoft's hoops or you won't get updates.
Just an FYI: when moving a Fusion virtual machine, the first time you run the virtual machine, you are prompted if you "moved it" or "copied it".  Selecting "moved it" will retain the UUID and prevent Windows from prompting for reactivation.  (However, if it is a copy of the virtual machine and you wanted to run both copies simultaneously on the same network, you must select "copied it" otherwise the copies can't run at the same time.)
If one did select "copied it" accidentally, then just follow the reactivation prompts.  As long as you're not reactivating a lot then it usually will work the normal way over the internet.  Even if you're forced to call, just tell the support rep that you're reinstalling Windows and type in the really long code that they say.  The few times I've had to call, it was less than 15 minutes.  Again, as long as you're not reactivating a lot (so looking suspiciously like a pirate,) reactivation is a pain, but relatively quick.

  • Windows won't start up

I have a 3 year old Toshiba laptop A505-S6980 and this morning it was shut down and windows will not open.  It gets to the stage where you see the microsoft name and it says windows is loading files and then it just goes no where.  I did get into FN/F8 and tried a few things there like running repair and opening in safe mode, but got no where.  Could my hard drive be toast?  Anything else I could try?  I'm thinking about ordering a hard drive and trying to replace it myself.

When I try to get into the recovery wizard to run my recovery discs I can't get to it.  I press and hold zero while turning on the computer and it just goes to my password sighn in screen, etc. and I am back to where I started with windows not starting.  The recovery wizard won't open.  I have been able to do this in the past, but not this time.  that's why I thought it may be the hard drive.

My computer won't startup or restart with the nano connected to the USB port. It just hangs on the startup screen. I have the same (or similar) problem with an iPod Video 30GB, and have found a solution. It is not a boot order problem. I've just posted the following as feedback to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93953
There is also another reason why a PC may not start with an iPod connected. It is also related to USB, but is a different problem, and there are different work-arounds available.
Problem: PC will not POST or boot with iPod connected to a USB port
    Description:
With an iPod connected to any USB port, the PC will not pass power-on self test (POST), and does not attempt to boot. It remains completely unresponsive to anything except a hard power-off; in particular it is impossible to reach the BIOS configuration screen. This is not a problem with the boot order: the internal disk is first in the boot order, and in any case, POST is not passed and so booting is not attempted.
With the iPod disconnected, the PC boots normally, and if the iPod is plugged in later, the iPod and iTunes function normally.
    Solution: either:
    1. Disable "USB legacy mouse support" and "USB keyboard and legacy support" in BIOS. Disabling legacy USB mouse support stops a USB mouse being used by BIOS and DOS programs, which is not usually a problem. Disabling "USB keyboard and legacy support" will prevent a USB keyboard from being used at all, which is a potentially serious problem.
    2. Boot with the iPod disconnected.
System details: a PC based on the ASUS A7N8X v2.0 motherboard running BIOS version 1008. It has a USB mouse, PS/2-compatible keyboard, and a USB-connected printer and scanner as well as the iPod.
    Comments:
This is not necessarily a bug with the iPod, but may be. There are three possibilities:
    1. There is a bug with the BIOS implementation of USB keyboard and mouse support
    2. There is a bug with the way the iPod responds when the BIOS is looking for USB keyboards and mice.
    3. There is a bug in the USB spec itself.

U have a problem in memory management,
    facts
(The Kernel32.dll file is a 32-bit dynamic link library file in Windows 95,98,Me. The Kernel32.dll file handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When you start Windows, Kernel32.dll is loaded into a protected memory space so that other programs do not take over that memory space.)
in short, itunes is not allowed to install or "operate" within the set parameters, Windows "belives" it to be trying to "overwrite" windows kernel os files,
Solve: Try to Create a new folder and designate Itunes to Install and operate from the newly created folder in c/programs. also since u have a problem with q-time i recomend removing it and re-installing it. use a clean up program before re-installing Itunes, ( ex CCleaner free and a wery good clean up program), if or when you try to start itunes again see if the exe programes are initiated:
    iPodService.exe
    iTunes.exe
if they are not or it is still "incompatible" with kernel, I belive you have to look at your Audio setings as well. I hope this is off any use. Good Luck

I have a toshiba A505-S6980 and suddenly windows will not load up and start.  I did get to safe mode and saw some windows files load up but safe mode doesn't really open up windows where I can do anything.  I have a System Repair Disc and the System Recovery discs I can run but I can't get to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard.  How can I get the "D" drive to open to try and use the system repair disc?

After you have loaded the repair disc, shut down the computer. Then power it up and press F12 to reach the boot-priority menu. Select the optical drive there.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
If you can't boot from the repair disc, there's something wrong with the hardware, the BIOS, or the disc.

  • Windows won't start up under Boot Camp

I just made a Windows partition with the Boot Camp assistant utility and keep trying to install XP Home Edition with SP 2, but it keeps stopping at the point where it says "Starting Windows" and then tells me there's some kind of problem, check for "new hardware," or disable something or another I've never heard of, etc. etc. and try again. Same thing over and over. I have iMac, all the latest software, Leopard, etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Actually I emailed Bobby T. (his comments are a few postings below on his experience), and he suggested unplugging my printer and external hard drive (everything except for the keyboard and mouse) and starting over. That did the trick and it all went smoothly from there. The error message was a mile long and I can't recount it exactly. Basically it said Windows installation was abandoned, check new hardware and software for problems, etc. I suspect something about there being an external hard drive connected threw off the process.
As an aside, I really feel like Safari in Leopard is sluggish. Due to other problems, I pulled Leopard off my PowerPC G5 and put back Tiger, and that helped. Safari is still running under Leopard on my Intel iMac, and still seems sluggish. But, you know what's screaming fast? Explorer in XP running on the iMac. Holy cow! It's way faster than both of the other configurations. Faster than Explorer on my PC at work too. No idea why, but XP on the Mac is really responsive.

  • Toshiba M45-s269 Windows won't start-missing or corrupt file

    Toshiba M45-s269 Windows xp sp3
Recently got the message upon a restart that "Windows cannot start because a file is missing or corrupt" then names the file "<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe."
Screen show options to restart windows normally, in last known good config, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt or with networking.  All options only have the result of a 2-minute freeze-up and returning to the same screen after showing the Toshiba splash screen.
I was able to F12 at splash screen which gives the option of what to reboot from: Multiple discs, single disc, floppy or networked.  Otherwise all options have same looped result notifying cannot start due to missing/corrupt file.....
Having the factory recovery disc, I was able to select the single disc option with F12 at splash and try running a recovery from D:/.
The disc, however, says it will reload Windows 98 (the computer came with  XP Home) and wants to re-format which will blow out EVERYTHING I have on the hard drive which is NOT an option for me!
A while ago I was given a disc from a friend that has XP Professional. I have been trying to restore from that with less than expected results. Have gotten to a DOS promt and tried to COPY the file from XP Pro disc but being told cannot find the file. I'm most likely not doing something right. Don't know what destination to send it IF I'm able to copy the file anyway.
Tried to load XP Pro on hard drive but computer sees the Home version and gives the message that loading 2 OS's is not recommended. Was hoping that XP Pro would simply over-write Home.
Any help appreciated.  Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Hi
Setup CD is not delivered with your notebook, just recovery CD and recovery CD does not offer repair option.
Try to obtain Microsoft Installations CD. Talk with your friends. I am pretty sure someone has this WXP installations CD. Check if you can do something using R option.

  • Help! Windows won't start up on iMac

My computer freezes every time I try to start Windows 7. I get the window where you have the Mac and Windows icons, but when I click on Windows and then the arrow underneath it, the computer freezes and I have to shut it down manually and restart. I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

    Rebecca,
How do you have MS Windows installed? If you're using Boot Camp the you need to repost in the Boot Camp forum. From your description that's how I think MS Windows is installed. If you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion then you need to post in their repspective forusm.

    HI
A few months ago I posted asking abouproblems with my computer and you guys diagnosed it perfectly thanks.
Now for the next episode in the saga!!!!
I decided to take the laptop to a supposedly reputible dealer to get it fixed. they stripped it and said that it was the motherboard. they said they could supply 1 for $750 plus installation. I told them that I could get it alot cheaper and asked if they would install it if I did. they agreed.
I purchased the motherboard from a company in the US (I am in Australia) The company I went through went to extrordinary lengths to ensure they sent the correct board even insisting that I sent photos of the part number stickers on the origional.
anyway the motherboard arrived and I took it into the shop. they said it would be $190 to install and that it would be ready early next week.
without boring you over how much longer than next week and how many times they ducked my phonecalls later, I went in and asked what was happening. the guy said the techie was out and he would get him to ring me.
When he finally did late the next day, he said that the computed was detecting the hard drive but wasn't starting up????
They want $130 to remove the hard drive and another $100+ (I tuned out at the figuers) for a data backup.
I am now picking the computer up on tuesday and I have to get someone else to fix it. these guys were instantly blaming the new motherboard
they say the F11 recovery dosn't work anymore either and that it is my problem.
after the way they have dealt with me, I do not believe them at all, besides I took my computer to get fixed and they quoted and now haven't completed the job.
    Anyway, Questions
What do I need to do to get my computer working again?
do I need to do a complete windows install again?
will this fix the problem of the missing recovery function?
    Thanks again

I firmly believe that all of your problems are based on the fact that the motherboard DMI (or tattoo) utility was not run after the motherboard was installed.
Unfortunately, this is a restricted utility that only an authorized HP technician (such as myself) or an authorized HP service partner would have. Wish you were in Florida as I would help!
You will need to find an authorized HP shop near to you and contact them!
    Hope that this helps!
