Windows 7 x64 iTunes 10.4 doesn't recognize backups

After latest update in Preferences -> Devices none of backups are showing. When "syncing" iTunes doesn't create backups. Why?

Same here, except it is remembering positions of windows open before I upgraded to Lion/10.4, and won't remember any new positions. I have switched display arrangment, and now playlists I used to open on my third screen open either halfway off the bottom, or stretched between 3 or 4 displays (based on the prior display arrangment).
Very, very frustrating. Even though I have keystroke shortcuts to reposition windows to the new arrangment, it ***** doing this over and over, especially for the iTunes Store.
These positions are stored in the iTunes Library file itself, and I *refuse* to lose all my track metadata not stored within the track itself, plus playlists, Smart playlists, etc., etc.. With over 50K items in my Library, this would be a *nightmare* to rebuild.
I pray that this bug can be fixed without forcing a new Library file.

  • Windows 7 and itunes 10.4 will not recognize iphone 4

windows 7 and itunes 10.4 will not recognize iphone 4.  iphone does not show up in device list in iTunes

Found my answer by sifting through all itunes questions.  (I tried earlier, but apparently chose the wrong key words.  In my successful search I just searched through everything itunes related.) There was a posting where someone indicated they could not open alternative libraries using the option key method, precisely my situation.  They stated that they solved the problem by appending a ".itl" at the end of the library file.  I tried this myself and sure enough, it worked.  Hopefully it will also work for all others who are suffering from this scenario.

  • Freezing Issues with Video Playlists - Windows 7 x64, iTunes 10

OK, I've been troubleshooting this problem to the best of my ability for weeks now. I can't come up with any solution, if anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciate it.
When playing videos from a playlist when one video ends but before another begins itunes becomes unresponsive. Sometimes a new video will start right away but it's rare, mostly an outright freeze, sometimes a new video will begin after about a minute or two of unresponsiveness.
This leads me to believe that when itunes is updating the library database files it is somehow getting stuck.
Interestingly enough, if I skip to the end of a video just to test if it will play the next in sequence it works perfectly. It only does this behavior when a video plays all the way through.
    What I have tried already:
-Complete re-install of my entire OS after a clean format.
-Added all itunes files to the exception lists of my virus software (NOD32).
-Uninstalled virus software completely (same behavior without virus scanning software at all)
    -Ran itunes as an administrator.
-Removed all devices from the PC with the exception of critical components, plus mouse and keyboard, sound card.
    -Updated all drivers
-Ran itunes in compatability mode (Vista, XP)
-Completed all suggested items for "unexpected freezes" in the itunes help section.
    I am running windows 7 x64, i7 @3.06GHz, 6GB Ram.
    Running itunes 10.2.1.1
I briefly tried to downgrade to itunes 9, this seemed to clear up the problem. This is not a solution to me, I want the shared library features for my ipad.
All video files play fine in other media players.
    Please help, I'm completely frustrated.

As much as I loathe thread bumpers I'm still at a loss as how to fix this issue. If anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Empty error dialog when trying to sync (Windows 7 x64 + itunes 9 and 10)

This post:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11692653 describes my problem, but their solution did not work for me (setting Outlook as defauylt and use iTunes 9.2.0.61).
Basically what happens is that every 10 minutes or so, an error box (empty) will pop up - I have auto sync enabled. Switching to manual will stop it of course, but when I manually sync the error occurs. What is strange is that as far as I can tell, my data IS syncing to Mobile Me. It's like the error ocurs regardless.
Any other ideas on how to fix this?
    Details: Windows 7 64bit, iTunes 10 (tried 9.2.0.61), 8 GB RAM, 1TB HDD RAID 0, 2 drives 500GB each - Apple updates run weekly.

I was finally able to make it work. I'm so happy.
For some reason, perhaps it was pure desperation or maybe I had read it somewhere on the internet, I decided to set Outlook as my default mail application. Unbelievably, this made it work - the empty error boxes are gone and synchronization works like a charm.
So, when Outlook asks if it should be default mailer, answer yes. You can also configure this in Outlook or in the Windows 7 start menu -> Default Programs -> Set your default programs -> Outlook.
Just make sure that Outlook is default for everything it wants to be default to. My first attempt set it to "11 out of 13" and it wasn't until I selected to use it to "all file types and protocols that it can handle to default".
Anyway, I'm a happy user now and hopefully this can help others who are experiencing the same issues

  • Latest iTunes update: computer doesn't recognize DVD drive

I updated iTunes and my computer doesn't recognize my keyboard and my DVD drive.
I was able to get the keyboard back by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
I had to do a system restore to get back the DVD drive.
I don't want to reinstall the update until I'm sure this won't happen again.

  • ITunes 11.1 doesn't recognize my iPhone 4s with IOS 7 - phone is charging by iTunes doesn't see it.  Any suggestions?

I upgraded my daughter's iMac to iTunes 11.1 and now it doesn't recognize her iPhone 4s.  The phone will charge and DropBox see's it but iTunes doesn't.  Any suggestions?  I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the software so that doesn't work.  Thanks for any help!

    Hello jlgougeon,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.http://apple.com/itunes/download
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • ITunes 10.2 doesn't recognize my iTouch

I have an iTouch 4G that iTunes 10.2 won't recognize.  I'm running Win7/64 and iTunes/64. I've followed the T/S tips, reinstalled iTunes twice, restarted my computer several times, disables my firewall and virus security temporarily, changed to every availabe USB port I have that's connected diretly to my PC, and I'm using a brand new USB cable that came with my daughters iTouch she got for X-Mas.  I'm not sure what to do next.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.  Those were the same directions I followed before, but must have missed something or didn't delete everything I was supposed to.  Took my time on this round.  Ended up deleting each software product in order and restarting the computer, reloading iTunes 10.5, running the update....and that did it.  Plugged in my iTouch at it showed up.  I'm up and running now.  Appreciate the help.

  • Empty error dialog when trying to sync (Windows 7 x64 + itunes 9)

Using Windows 7 Enterprise, 64bit and the latest x64 installer of iTunes (9.0.2.25) on a HP EliteBook 8530w.
Whenever I open iTunes, click on my iPhone (3G) and then select the "Info" tab I get an empty error dialogs popping up: See screenshot http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1582/ituneserror.png
This dialog pops up a couple of times, one after the other. After I've dismissed them all, I can click sync and it appears to actually sync (both the phone and itunes tells me it's synchronizing). However, the empty dialog appears again during sync and once the sync has completed there hasn't been any changes to the phone
What I'm trying to sync is calendar and contacts from MS Outlook 2007. It used to work perfectly on this same computer running XP... it all happened after I re-installed the OS and upgraded to Win7.
I've searched through the internet and found various references to sync problems on vista/win7 on x64 although non of the symptoms seems to match mine (others were seeing bluescreens, frozen itunes etc.). Also, given the verbosity of the error dialog, it's quite hard to know what's wrong...
Has anyone even seen this problem or am I alone with this?

I was finally able to make it work. I'm so happy.
For some reason, perhaps it was pure desperation or maybe I had read it somewhere on the internet, I decided to set Outlook as my default mail application. Unbelievably, this made it work - the empty error boxes are gone and synchronization works like a charm.

  • Windows XP - Update iTunes 10.5 doesn't work, mistake in the setup

During the installation of iTunes 10.5 a problem will be shown:
"Es liegt ein dieses Windows Installer-Paket betreffendes Problem vor. Ein Programm, das im Rahmen der Installation ausgeführt wurde, wurde nicht erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Wenden Sie sich an das Supportpersonal oder den Hersteller des Pakets."
I think this is an error within the installation procedure and couldn't corrected by myself.
Did anyone got the same problem? Perhaps in the next version of the iTunes setup it will be fixed.
If someone could help - thank you very much!

Habe fast einen Tag damit herumgemacht! In einem Forum las ich den folgenden, wenn auch noch etwas stärker verschlüsselten Rat, der mir tatsächlich zur Lösung verhalf:
Copy "C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update" or "C:\Programme\Apple Software Update" (all of its contents) from a PC, on which iTunes 10.5  runs smoothly as it should, to exactly the same directory of the stubborn PC causing your problem. After that iTunes 10.5 (iTunesSetup.exe) installed extremely slowly but correctly on my PC.
    Hope that works for U2.
