Windows 8.1 and Firefox issues

Bought a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5215. AMD A6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.00 GHz. 4 GB RAM, 63 bit operating system, x62 based processor. 1 TB memory. Came with Windows 8.1 on it. This has been very frustrating.
I THINK Firefox 33.1.1 downloaded. I say "think" because in trying to fix issues, somewhere I saw Firefox - PART, but now I do not know where I saw this.
I just ran a search on "THIS PC" for Firefox and have 2 screens of listings.
One issue: I use yahoo for email. When I click to open a message, I can not scroll down. I have to click IN the message, and then arrow down. The scroll bar on the far right takes up the entire range, so it cannot be moved down.
Second issue: In working on things, I tried moving Firefox to Safe Mode. Now, my first problem is that the instructions to do this say to use the Menu button and the ? button; in fact, all I had to do was click on Help in the menu across the top of the page, and then click on disable add ons. So that took me some time, just to get in to Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, the menu across the top disappeared, so I could not get back IN to help to exit Safe Mode!
In Safe Mode, the touchpad was disabled; I had to go get a mouse and connect that to move around.
Yes, once I did THAT, and went in to yahoo mail, I could open a message and have a scroll bar on the right to move down the message.
I had to reboot to exit Safe Mode.
Then I had to go enable the touch pad.
Now I have no scroll bar when I open an email message in yahoo mail.
Next issue. Firefox is S L O W. I've used it for years on 4 or 5 other computers, never seen it this slow. It is so slow that I keep getting 'NOT RESPONDING' across the top of the page. I do not do anything and eventually the page DOES load. This happens with any site: Facebook, this Support site, craigslist, yahoo mail, any place I go to. I have not found that it is site specific.
Next issue. Periodically the cursor locks up. Nothing I do releases it. Once in a while I wait and it becomes responsive again; other times, I have to reboot.
Next issue: sometimes I have to click once, sometimes I have to double click ON THE SAME BUTTON. This happens when I am in a forum and want to post a reply, as one example. Sometimes one click on the REPLY button do it. Other times, I have to double click. It is not constant ON THE SAME FORUM.
That's what I've got, for now. Any help much appreciated.

Here are the 2 pages of listings when I search Firefox on "this computer"

    I have windows 8.1 and firefox won't play youtube videos but IE will. I have tried reinstalling firefox, flash, java. Resetting firefox don't help, disabled hardware acceleration, protected mode 0 in the mms.cfg file. Nothing will play on youtube in firefox. It says "an error has occured, please try again later". The ads play fine though. Everything plays fine in IE. I have tried different versions of flash also with no luck. I even restored the system to a previous iso image with no luck. Does anyone have a solution?

    It maybe because your javascript is disabled .
    You can check the javascript.enabled pref on the about:config page.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
    There are also extensions that can block JavaScript or otherwise interfere.

    Or,
    "Clear the Cache":
    Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Safe Mode] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • On Windows 8.1 and Firefox 36.0.1 the textarea in forms has no carriage returns. Earlier versions the forms work. Is there a fix for this?

    Prior to this version of Firefox 36.0.1, the <textarea> in my HTML forms was working; displaying carriage returns. In version 36.0.1 they no longer function properly. Instead when I enter a carriage return, it displays a space instead of a newline. I went to the most basic textarea testing
    &lt;textarea&gt; name="comments" cols=20 rows=10 &lt;/textarea&gt;
    to make sure I wasn't introducing anything with other languages.
    I am using Windows 8.1 Pro. I rolled back to Firefox 35.0 and everything works fine. I install 36.0.1 and it stops working.
    I have access to another Laptop also running the same version of windows and Firefox and it appears to be doing strange things as well. I am suspicious in that I started noticing this immediately after a windows upgrade last night. The laptop also experienced the issues it is having immediately after a windows update yesterday evening.
    I have yet another PC running a different version of windows and Firefox and it too works fine. It looks like the issue is where there is windows 8.1 Pro and Firefox 36.0.1.
    Do you guys have any idea what is going on here?
    Thanks
    JMRAUPE57

    The current release supports the white-space property for a text area and it is possible that the website uses white-space: pre instead of white-space: pre-wrap.
    The former will prevent Firefox from wrapping the text.
    You can check that in the Inspector via the right-click context menu.
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Page_Inspector
    See:
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox/Releases/36#CSS
    <blockquote>The white-space property is now working on <textarea> HTML elements (bug 82711).</blockquote>

  • How do I get firefox to display images clearly? I've got Windows 2000 Pro and Firefox 3.6.6. Internet Explorer shows images clearly, so I'm sure I have the correct graphics driver. Do I need a plugin or add-on of some sort? When I go to "updates", it

    When I use Firefox the images and logos don't show up clearly/correctly. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro. and just installed Firefox 3.6.6. I'm sure I have the right graphics driver as I'm able to see the images and logos clearly in Internet Explorer. I only have the "default plugin 1.0.0.15" installed. I'm thinking that I'm missing a plugin or add-on of some sort, but I'm not sure which one(s). When I go to "updates" it says there were no updates available. When I go to "Add-ons" it gives a list of Add-ons but I'm not sure which would help my issue. Any help would be appreciated.:)

    Considering it can be installed in the Internet Explorer ,this issue is related to the Fire Fox. It is recommended to look for help from the Fire Fox forum.

  • With windows 8.1 and Firefox 31, I cant get some of the buttons on a particular website to work. Works in IE and XP.

    I have a new Dell XPS 8700 pc running windows 8.1. I have Firefox 31 installed and Internet Explorer. When I visit a Chevrolet website to build and price a vehicle (link below), I can't select any trim level other than the default level when using Firefox. Everything works fine in Internet Explorer. A friend has a different brand pc running 8.1 and Firefox, but, the site works fine for him.
    In other words, all the buttons on the website don't work when using Firefox for me.
    I've just replaced the hard drive due to another problem (had nothing to do with this), but, I had this issue with the old HD as well.
    Here is the link to the website: http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette-stingray/build-your-own.html?x-zipcode=93301
    Any ideas? I'm running McAfee but my friend is running Norton. Don't know if there is a conflict there or not. Thanks for your help.

    Those radio buttons seem to be working here.
    You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
    You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
    *Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
    Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

  • I've just started to see the error message js/ff_browser:203 appearing. it's random. this is a PC with Windows 7, 64bit and firefox 7.01. the only recent change is a download of a Java update. is there an easy way to fix it?

    as explained in the question, this is a ransom occurrence and requires me to select "continue" or "exit". selecting "continue" just seems to allow firefox to do what i wanted it to do.
    i'm running windows 7 professional 64 bit and Firefox 7.01.

    Probably caused by an add-on. <br />
    What is the rest of that '''chrome://......js/ff_browser:203''' message? <br />
    Might tell us which add-on is involved.
    Otherwise, you can do a little troubleshooting to discover the cause. <br />

  • Perssonas not being displays - Themes are but top of window not colour and firefox button not shown correctly

    I have installed the personnas plus add on and have tried to select several different personnas (e.g. Earth from space etc.) but none of them appear to be displayed. The window remains its default light blue.
    I am not aware that i have installed anything else which could have affected this situation.
    When attempting to apply a full theme the very top bar of the window (with minimize, exit etc.) is also not coloured as it should be - see the theme FT Deep Dark 5.6 for example. And the firefox button has an orange 'fuzzy' ' glitchy' border around it still.
    Cheers if anyone knows anyway around this problem :>

    hello Kirie_kore, it is a known issue that light-weight themes are currently not shown when firefox is set to ''never remember history'' (a.k.a. always run in private browsing mode) in firefox/tools > options > privacy. this will be corrected in the upcoming firefox release.

  • Drivers for Windows Server 2008 and HDD issues

    Recently I have had the hard drive with my OS fail. After replacing the hard drive and reinstalling windows server 2008 I seem to have run into a few issues with drivers.  After insalling Windows, I had 3 items in my device manager that did not install properly. I was able to get the driver for the LAN port to work but I have not gotten the driver for "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" and "SM Bus Controller". After a little research, I believe the video card is a Radeon HD4350. With that information I still have been unable toinstlal the correct drivers for either of these items. I've tried several drivers listed on the drivers support page on HP's website but all fo them return the same error about not finding the correct Operating System. The link to the driver I used originally on my previous installation seems to not be valid any longer.
    Also I can't seem to access the two additoinal hard drives (connected by sata). They were used with the previous installation of windows with no issues. They appear in the device manager but do not show up under My Computer. A removeable drive does show up that I'm not sure what it is. Previously I had used software to mirror one of the drives onto the other as to prevent losing data if a drive would fail. Is one of the above drives causing the issue with not being able to access the drives or did the software used before cause the problem?
    Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    OK.
    I can't help you with the drives then.  That is out of my realm of knowledge.  If they are marked healthy and active in the disk management utility, then that is all I know that they should be indicated.
    As for the graphics driver...
    Download and install this free file utility.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
    After you install 7-zip, right click on the graphics driver file and select 7-zip from the list of options.
    Select 7-zip to Extract to: and let it extract the file into a folder.  I let it extract to the file name of the folder.
    Then just follow the rest of my instructions to install the driver.
    Of course you will first browse to where 7-zip has extracted the folder to, and proceed from there.

  • CSS :: IE and FireFox issues

    Hi.
    I am developing a website (
    see
    here) using CSS which displays fine in IE. However, when I view
    it in FireFox, I have two major issues:
    1. On all pages, the navigation bar seems to be stretched and
    hence the links become offset.
    2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Does anyone know how to solve these two very annoying issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Tom.
    ps. I can give you the css/html files if this helps.

    > 1. On all pages, the navigation bar seems to be
    stretched and hence the links
    > become offset.
    Change your 'padding' to as below:
    #menu {
    position:absolute;
    padding: 0 0 10px 0;
    margin:0;
    left:161px;
    top:110px;
    height:2em;
    width:830px;
    list-style-type:none;
    border:1px solid #bbb;
    background-color:#EEE;
    > 2. On the 'Info' page, the tariffs table is stretched
    vertically.
    Many html tags including <p> paragraph and <h>
    headings have default
    margins and paddings. This is what you are seeing, which
    makes the table
    stretch vertically.
    Add an 'id' to the tarifs table called surprisingly or not
    'tarifs' as
    below:
    <table id="tarifs" width="483" border="0" cellpadding="0"
    cellspacing="0">
    Then add this css to your style sheet:
    #tarifs p, #tarifs h2 {
    margin: 0 0 0 0;
    padding: 0 0 0 0;
    You can change the values until you have the correct amount
    of space,
    top, right, bottom, left

  • Quicktime  and firefox issues

    when installed, quicktime overwrites flash files, like youtube or any ads that use flash, with the quicktime logo with "?". before, if i uninstalled quicktime, flash would work again.
    now even with quicktime uninstalled, firefox promts that the "quicktime plug-in only works with quicktime version 5 or later and to visit apple.com to download quicktime". installing quicktime 7.1.6 leads to the disappearance of all flash once again.
    this problem only happens in firefox; flash works fine in both Internet Explorer and Opera.
    EDIT: when quicktime IS installed, the only MIME settings selected are for quicktime movie. nothing under the Misc. category is selected.
    this has been entirely frustrating and any help that can be offered would be extremely appreciated.
    Windows XP

    How to view/hear pretty much everything:
    Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    The world should now be your oyster!
    You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • My new windows 7 machine and firefox color defaults for input boxes are obscurring the input box on the google search page making google unusable

    Under Windows 7 Firefox looks quite different including the default blue for input to question boxes which are white on the xp machines. Normally this is not a problem. But on the Google web page the blue is so bold that nothing can be seen except for a very small portion of the characters (in red) extending below the input screen. This becomes miserable if you try to edit a search stmt or backspace to correct a spelling error. you are quickly lost and need to clear the cache and reload the page.
    This problem does not appear using Chrome or IE on the same machine. Nor is it a problem using Firefox 9.0.1 on two other home PC's running XP (there no input box obscures the answer). This seems to be a lot of work.

    That can be caused by the "Keystroke protection" in Comcast Constant Guard.<br />
    "Configure Anti-Keylogging Settings" -> disable

  • Cookies and Firefox issue

    I am having an issue with my site (I did not develop it, but
    I am versed in CF enough to understand any solutions you might
    have)....
    Here is the problem...
    First, this is only an issue in Firefox. IE, Safari etc...
    etc.... do not have this problem.
    When you attempt to login, the page shows a message "Logging
    you in..." it then appears to be redirecting (as it should) to the
    requested page after successful login. But, it just flickers and
    then nothing. You are not logged in, no errors either from CF or
    from the code. Meaning there is nothing displayed to the user. So
    after a few tries users are giving up and leaving the site. What I
    have found is that if you clear the cookies then you can login and
    all is well.
    Upon further investigation, I logged into the admin side of
    the site, chose a user at random who had not logged in in more than
    a week. I tried to login to the site with his username and
    password, I could not (user and pwd are correct). After I could not
    login with his credentials, I tried my own and they too did not
    work although they did just prior to logging in with his. I cleared
    the cookies, and then it worked. (mine and his credentials).
    I also ttried, deleting just the cookies for my site and that
    doesn't work. It is only when you delete ALL cookies via the Clear
    Private Data, uncheck everything except cookies method that it
    works. So I'm stumped. I don't know if it is firefox, or my code,
    or the server, or IIS or what. Any clues that you folks can shed
    would be great. If anyone else is experiencing this sort of
    behavior please tell me what you have done. Again, I did not
    develop the site so technical details are a bit sketchy and I am
    trying to help the developer track this down.
    Essentially the site is developed in CF version 8, the login
    logic is CF/AJAX with javascript form field validation on the
    client. The webserver is IIS 6, the server itself is patched, the
    backend is SQL 2005 SP3 and again, this works flawlessly in other
    browsers.
    I appreciate any assistance.

    you said nothing about how your login framework is designed.
    are you using cflogin?
    did you make your own login framework based on session
    vars/whatever?
    are you using regular cf sessions or j2ee sessions? (you
    should do the
    latter, imho).
    let's start with that. post your code that performs login and
    the code
    that checks for login state. post you application settings as
    well.
    FF (as well as other browsers) has a feature to re-open
    previous tabs on
    start-up. this feature makes FF aggressively cache pretty
    much
    everything it can get its hands on, and never release it
    unless the user
    tells FF to clear out private data.
    your application needs to be designed with this and similar
    features in
    mind.
    post relevant code for starters.
