Windows 8.1 and Remote Web Workplace

We have a SBS 2008 server running our small business network. The computers connected to our network run XP, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 as their OS. We are having some difficulty getting Remote Web Workplace to work properly, especially when we are trying
to connect to Win 8.1 desktops. We've made sure that Compatibility View settings have our remote web workplace website added, but still we cannot seem to connect. This was working a little over a month ago, but now it seems only XP machines and some Win 7
computers can connect to our network remotely using this software (which is part of the SBS 2008 suite of applications). What do we have to do or check to make this system work?

Hi,
According to your description, it should be the website compatibility problem. Firstly, you can change the webpage document model in Windows 8.1 same with Windows 7 or XP for test.
Open the website in IE and press F12, then follow the screenshot below for test:

• Remote Web Workplace and printing

At home, I have a Win7 laptop and a new HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer.  I use Remote Web Workplace to connect to my Win7 desktop at the office (both are 64 bit).  I installed the 8620 print drivers onto the Office PC.
I connected to the Office PC via RWW.  The Office PC sees my 8620 printer at home and says 'redirect'.  I print a test page and open the printer window to 'see what's printing',  I see the printout spooling, then printing, then gone from
the window as if it is done.  But it never actually prints.  My printer at home doesn't even look like it is receiving any data from RWW.
I previously had an HP Officejet model printer connected successfully.  And, most recently, used a Lexmark Pro915.  I need to replace the Lexmark.
After trying the 8620 without success, I reconnected the Lexmark and it works just fine.

I think I have seen this before with office jet printers.  It may even have been your post here or on another forum.  I don't think that printer with that driver will be successful without a third party RDS print program.
Will the local printer respond to a simple print driver such as HPIII or Inkjet 520?  What about the universal print driver?  If so, you might try remote printing with that driver.

• Server 2012 R2 essentials url rewrite to exchange 2013 breaks remote web workplace

Hi all
Have a server 2012 r2 with essentials experience installed and an exchange 2013 sp1 on a member server.
I have 2 certificates
remote.domain.com for the essentials rww
mail.domain.com for exchange owa
I have added the administrator account to enterprise admins and have joined the exchange server with the essentials connector, so it appears on the dashboard.
Both certificates are installed correctly.
I have installed ARR 3.0 and created a serverfarm mail.domain.com and accepted that it created url rewrite for me.
Server farm does not have ssl offload enabled.
The url rewrite is setup like this:
Requested url: matches pattern, Using: Wildcards, Pattern *
Conditions: Match All, Input: HTTPS, Type: Matches the pattern, Pattern: ON
Action: Route to server farm
Scheme: https://, Server farm: mail.domain.com, Path: /{R:0}
Stop processing of subsequent rules: checked
Now pointing protokol 443 til the IP of the essentials server and navigating to https://mail.domain.com/owa brings the owa logon page with my trusted server certificate and all.
Everything works fine.
If I then navigate to https://remote.domain.com/remote then the webpage should show the login to the essentials remote web workplace.
But instead it shows a some what crippled version, like forms and pictures missing and it is obviously not working.
Trying to troubleshoot i changed the url rewrite from wildcards to exact match and put owa into the pattern field.
Then my remote web workplace showed up correctly with the matching certificate and all was fine.
But now owa shows a 404 directory not found.
I guess I need some help on this.
Somehow that server farm and the url rewrite, messes up my default website, with the remote site.
Much appreciated...
\Lars

Lars,
RE-Run the WSE wizard to reset the Internet settings.
Remove ARR and URLReWrite.
Once removed reboot.
Install ARR and URLReWrite again by downloading.
Do NOT configure any farm settings.
Use the ARRConfig utility that comes with WSE:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200172.aspx
That TN page explains how to run the utility. Make sure you have exported the mail certificate including Public Key and Extended Properties first.

• Remote web workplace

I cannot log throught my iPhone 3G via Remote web workplace (Windows small business server 2003). Seem to be because of Safari instead of Explorer ? Any cue about this one ?

I haven't tried what you are having problems with, but if the problem is Safari vs Internet Explorer, there are options. The first would be to download Atomic from the app store. It is a web browser for the iPhone/iPod/iPad that can send out other user agent strings, so it can tell your workplace that you are using IE rather than a browser on your iPhone. If it is another issue that is keeping you from logging in, I personally don't have any ideas, although others will.

• Remote Web Workplace access

Have just been told my IMAC cannot connect to Remote Web Workplace because it is not compatible and there is no app. equivalent to ActiveX Control. What a shocker! Has anyone found a way round this?

• VLAN on RVS4000 disables access to Remote Web Workplace, Outlook Web Access

I have an RVS4000 setup with a VLAN to a wireless "guest" network, guest network is 192.168.1.x, internal network is 10.0.0.x both have Internet access, and cannot see each other, exactly what I wanted. The only problem is that either from the internal network or the guest network I can no longer access the Remote Web Workplace - https://mail.mydomain.com/remote or Outlook Web Access https://mail.mydomain.com/exchange fails with page not found. Internally I can access via \\server\remote and \\server\exchange but of course this does not work for the guest network. We have Small Business Server 2003. External access if fine. I'm assuming this is some kind of routing issue but not sure how to fix. Thanks.

• Windows 2012 routing and remote access service with same subnet

I have internal server IP range -192.168.1.0/24
Windows routing and remote access service  with vpn client IP -192.168.11../22
client side IP subnet is -192.168.1.0/24
So we wan routing \ NATING between  192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22 so if vpn user try to ping 192.168.11.5 it should internally forward all request to 192.168.1.5

Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that VPN client and internal network has the same IP range -192.168.1.0/24. And you want to transfer internal network from IP address 192.168.1.0/24 to 192.168.11.0/22.
Agree with Charles David’s point of view. The easiest way to fix routing confusion would be to either change the VPN subnet or the VPN client subnet.
Or, if you configure Windows Server(RRAS) as VPN server, you may enable NAT to transfer internal IP address:
1. Open RRAS, add NAT.
2. New interface to NAT and configure it as public interface.
3. Open Address Pool tab, add IP address range 192.168.11.0/22.
4. Click Reservations, add reserved IP(192.168.11.0/22) and corresponding internal IP(192.168.1.0/24) one by one.
This would be a lot of workload. Besides, you may use 3rd party devices to transfer subnet IP addresses.

• Remote Web Workplace and Internet Explorer 11

After updating my IE to version 11on my home computer (WIN7), I cannot access the RWW on my business server.  I reach the login screen and log in.  The RWW home screens displays briefly, then disappears behind an error screen: 404- File
or directory not found.  I am able to reach the home screen using other browsers (Chrome and Firefox) but in order to log on to the server or a workstation, I have to download and save <computername.rdp> and then execute it.  What causes this
problem in IE 11 and how do I work around it other than using another browser?

Hi Jerry,
Does it work when you turn compatibility mode on for the web address you're trying to visit?

• SBS 2011 Remote Web Workplace issues not enough memory???

Hi,
Were having problems with the RWW website on our SBS 2011 server, users are able to logon, but the connect buttons of the computers are not working, if we click on them nothing happes, no error message, nothing.
When a users logs on we see 5 error messages in the application log of the SBS server, 4 times event 3 appears and 1 time event 1309, all messages say there is not enough memory available (less then 5%). When we close some applications/services and the memory
usage is below 95% the RWW websites works fine and the connect buttons function properly.
This server has 16GB of RAM, beside the standard SBS 2011 installation we installed only anti-virus and back-up software on this server.
We have several other customers that are running SBS 2011 servers, they have less internal memory and sometimes just 98% of free memory, but their RWW websites function without any problems and don't get these error messages.
Can someone tell me how to resolve this problem?

Yes, many of our customers use the same anti-virus software, Kaspersky AV 6.0, and the same back-up software, Ashay online back-up.
A reboot temporarily solves the problem but when the memory usage gets above 95% the problem gets back.
This site has about 40 user accounts.
The error message states the following:
To resolve this problem reducethe load on the
computer or modify the valueinFreeMemoryPercentageToActivateService in

Where could we check if there is a limit of 5% or less free memory set, which configuration file should we check?

• Windows 8.1 and Remote Desktop

I realize this question or problem has been asked a lot.  I figured I would just ask the question too.   I have a new HP Pavilion desktop computer running (original) Windows 8.  Windows 8 came pre-installed with this computer.  I have
a problem trying to remote into this Windows 8 computer from a Vista computer.  Since I was never able to get RD to work under Windows 8, I thought I would update to Windows 8.1.  Nothing changed.  I STILL can't remote into this computer even
with 8.1 installed.  The computer is listed under Network and has an IP address.
On this computer, I have a local account and a Windows Live account.  Under the firewall, I have enabled any remote settings and checked the Private and Public.  Nothing.
Yes, I have RD checked and I have remote assistance checked too.  The funny thing is that I don't have any options to set the level of security.  It is blank.  There is nothing there.
What am I missing here?  I want to be able to remote into this computer.

Hi,
For this issue,I may need a few more information to understand the issue better.
1.Did you get any error messages?
2.Can you connect to other PC with Remote Desktop Connection?
3.Did Windows vista ping Windows 8.1 successfully?
First, please refer to the following article to narrow down this issue:
Remote Desktop Connection: frequently asked questions
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/remote-desktop-connection-faq#1TC=windows-8
Then, please temporarily disable Windows firewall and security software to test this issue.
Also, please check the event viewer to see if some error log appeared when the issue occurred.

• Windows 8 PC not able to remote desktop via Remote Web Access

Windows 8.1 PCs cannot initiate a Remote Desktop session to Windows 7 PCs via Remote Web Access running on Windows Server 2012 Essentials.  The Windows 8.1 PC can Remote Desktop to the Windows 7 PC by IP using a VPN, and can connect using
the "Remote Desktop to the Computer" option under Devices in the WSE Dashboard.
All PCs and the server have all Windows updates applied.  Specificallly, the Windows 7 PC has KB2574819 is installed and the RDP Policy 8.0 has been activated using local group policy.  NLA is not active.
Given that direct Remote Desktop connections work OK but not RDP proxy session, it would appear that the problem has to do with the RD Proxy on Windows Server Essentials.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips on how to trace this problem down?

Hi,
Please check if there is any error in the remote desktop service log both on the Windows 8.1 client and server sides. You can find the log under Applications and Services logs – Microsoft
– Windows – TerminalServices.
Thanks.

• Crystal 8 Web Component Server ond Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6

I am trying to get Crystal 8 Web Component and Page Server to run on Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6. I have done the following:
Added the .cri and .rpt ISAPI extension mappings
Have Cache ISAPI extentions selected
Deselected "verify that file exists"
Aded the .cri and .rpt MIME types
Added wcsinsapi.dll as a IIS 6.0 extension
The above resolved all HTTP 40x.x errors but when trying to access a report from IE I receive the following error:
Error: Could not connect to the Web Component Server.
The page server and web component server services are running and I do see the listen ports (6401, 6403) active.
I know this is old software but it works quite well under a Windows 2000 Server and other web postings indicate that it is possible to run Crystal 8 under WS2003 and IIS 6.
Does any one know of a white paper/support document that details how to run Crystal 8 under Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6?
Has any one done this successfully?
Any tips as to cause of the "Could Not Connect" problem would be greatly appreciated.

Well as it turns out it looks like it was just this server.
We tried everything, and I added those user accounts to full
permission for the Coldfusion folders and we just could not get it
to work. We tried it on another couple servers running 2003, and it
installed perfectly right out of the box with no other permissions
needed. And those servers were all running default configs with no
other permissions done.
We still have no idea what was the problem, but at least for
now it seems to be this server. But I will tell you what, that II6
stuff seems to be a bit of a pain, we had major problems installing
new version of PHP with it too. Oh well, good luck to you
too!

• Blend for Visual Studio's HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor only usable for Windows 8 apps, NOT for web apps?

Hi there,
In the process of learning Visual Studio (VS) and ASP.NET, I initially thought that I could use Blend for VS's seemingly great HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor to visually design the HTML pages and CSS for a web app developped with VS, whether it be with ASP.NET MVC
or Django (using Python Tools for Visual Studio).
But now it dawned on me that Blend for VS seems to only be meant to design HTML/CSS for native Windows
8 apps, and not
web apps.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed the case?
Thanks a lot in advance for clarifying this point for me.
PS: Maybe this a dumb newbie question, but from the outside, it seems rather counter-intuitive to offer a top-notch tool for web
standards (HTML/CSS) edition (Blend for VS), all integrated with a top-notch tool for web development (VS) but prohibiting the web developer community to leverage the productivity gains of both
the former and the integration. This is especially puzzling given that the latest components of the ASP framework (MVC, SPA projects):
- Pushes for reliance on HTML elements and CSS instead of ASP elements and Skin files;
- VS apparently also does not provide a visual design page view for ASP.MVC projects, which is sure to make many development teams wary of migrating from web forms to MVC.

I believe this the case, but I'm not familiar with asp.net development. As you point out: html is html so you can edit and copy the code. That said, the Windows Store apps forums are specifically about writing Windows Store apps. For discussion
of writing ASp.net apps and the best tools to use for that please post in the asp.net development forums on
http://asp.net.

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.
