  • Arial Narrow Bold in CS6??

How can I use Arial Narrow Bold in Illustrator CS6? In CS5 I can choose Arial Narrow as a font and just make it bold. Now in CS6 I only find Arial as a font and can make it either narrow or bold but not both.
I have installed the ”whole” Arial font family in windows\fonts, so there I can find Arial Narrow, but why does it and the other Arial fonts appear in Illustrator?

Arial narrow versio 2.37 in C:\Windows\Fonts.
    Running Windows 7 Professional
What do you mean with where is it installed?
Should I copy this Arial Narrow to some Adobe folder?
In Illustrator CS5 this was not needed, but in all our computers running CS6, we have this same problem.

  • Arial Narrow Bold, Italic and Bold Italic are missing in CC 2014.

I have been trying to fix the mess Adobe and Microsoft did with the Arial Narrow font and no luck. I am on Windows 7 64, fully updated, running the CC 2014. The font Arial Narrow Regular shows as part of the Arial family. No problem there. However the variations: Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Bold Italic and Arial Narrow Italic do not show anywhere in Illustrator and Photoshop (2014). I am afraid of trying InDesign and breaking down in tears when they show nowhere there too. So frustrating!
Heads up: these solutions do not work: Arial Narrow unavailable, incomplete | CS applications | Windows and Description of the 2007 Office hotfix package (Gfonts.msp): August 26, 2008. Don't bother listing them as references on your answer. Thanks in advance.
The one thing I was not able to try was installing the Arial Narrow family that came with Windows XP because I don't have Windows XP!! Does anyone know where one can download those files from?
Any other ideas on how to fix that bug?
    Thanks!

PS: No, I am not in love with Arial, but as a government contractor I have no option but use it everywhere

I understand your frustration with this. Sorry in advance if I'm repeating anything you've already tried...
It sounds like you've already copied the fonts into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts folder.
If you haven't copied them into the InDesign Fonts folder, you'll need to do that as well.
    Copy:
    ARIALN.TTF
    ARIALNB.TTF
    ARIALNBI.TTF
    ARIALNI.TTF
    from C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
    into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Fonts
Substitute in the appropriate indesign fonts folder if your directory structure is different from mine.
As you're probably aware, if they're installed correctly they will only show up as variants of the Arial font:
If this doesn't work, you might want to see if there is a  hotfix for "2003 Microsoft Office System" (instead of the 2007 hotfix discussed in the prior thread you posted in). Keep in mind that the office 2007 hotfix actually patched the font files themselves, so I don't know if there's a patch for the office 2003 fonts.
    Good luck,

  • Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold Font issue

    Good afternoon,
We currently have Adobe Creative Suite 5 and the issue I'm having is with InDesign. Here's a description of the problem:
We've been using InDesign on Windows XP for some time and have not had any issues using the Arial Narrow or Arial Narrow Bold fonts. However, we recently purchased a Windows 7 PC and installed CS5 on it. Whenever the user on this new PC opens up an InDesign document, that was created on Windows XP w/ the mentioned fonts, an error comes up stating that the listed fonts (Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold) are not available on the system and that substitute fonts will used. So then I have the option to replace the missing fonts with other fonts, which I am able to replace with the Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold fonts that are already in the Windows 7 font folder. So it's almost like InDesign see's the fronts from XP and Windows 7 as two different things. I checked the version numbers on both fonts and they are the same (2.40).
Does anybody have any ideas? I've googled the issue and Adobe actually says that this is a Microsoft problem and is related to Office 2007 installing the Arial fonts with extra properties, wherein a hotfix is provided by Microsoft to resolve the issue. I've applied this hotfix and it does not do anything. I've also copied the fonts from the Windows XP machine and replaced the Windows 7 fonts with this, as well as vice versa, but this also does not resolve the issue.
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
    LMK

I found a solution for myself. Regenerate in ttf by defalt all 4 arial narrow fonts with Fontlab Studio without any changes to fonts info or structure. Then install them into system (Windows/Fonts). Clean old arial narrows files before. Then do search for adobefnt*.lst on system disk. Delete those files (only .lst not .db or any other). Great! Works perfectly in all adobe apps! Shows all names in arial family submenue.

  • InDesign CS6 and Arial Narrow

I have been using CS5, had problems with the Arial Narrow font not showing up as four variations but only one, and eventually got it resolved somehow so that I had a separate font listed as Arial Narrow in the font name drop down list and four variations listed in the other drop down list (all distinct from the Arial font with its four variations). I know I deleted a lot of AdobeFnt*.lst files. I know I tried the hotfix that I found through a lot of Google searching, but it said it didn't apply to my system. Beyond that, I don't know what fixed the problem and I remember it feeling like a lot of trial and error, but eventually I got it solved.
A few days ago I installed CS6 on my system for the first time, and now I've got the same problem back again. I've spent all afternoon trying to resolve it but without any success.
I have three sets of TTF files for Arial Narrow, each set with four files for regular, bold, italic and bold italic. One set is version 2.20, one is version 2.37 and the other is version 2.40. My system is running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.
Does anyone have any idea of what will fix this problem on my system? I have a lot of InDesign documents that use Arial Narrow, so now whenever I open one of them, I have lots of missing font references. If I could get Arial Narrow reinstalled properly once again, they'd all go away.
    Thanks!

This problem is due to the offending fonts having the wrong "Preferred Family" and "Preferred Subfamily" names and it can be corrected using a Font Editor, such as the free version of Type light which can be downloaded from http://www.cr8software.net/typelight.html.
The process I found to work (in Windows 8 with Adobe Indesign CC and Office 2010) is as follows:
Open a File Explorer window and go to the system font library at C:/Windows/Fonts and double click on the Arial font (this has a special icon indicating that it contains multiple subentries)
Copy the fonts for Arial Narrow, Arial Narrow Bold, Arial Narrow Italic and Arial Narrow Bold Italic to a new folder on your desktop
Edit each of these copies using your font editor and change the  Preferred Family and Preferred Subfamily names (in Type light use the menu option Font>Names... then click the Advanced button)
The Preferred Family should be changed to Arial Narrow and the Preferred Subfamily should be either Regular, Bold, Italic, or Bold Italic as per the particular font you are editing (While you are there you could also make similar changes to the Arial Black font which has the same problem - in this case, make Preferred Family Arial Black and Preferred Subfamily Regular)
Save each font file back over the top of the one in the folder on the desktop (Save and replace) then open a new File Explorer window for that folder and drag the changed fonts back into their orginal location at C:/Windows/Fonts/Arial
Open a new File Explorer window and do a search on the C: drive for all instances of AdobeFnt*.lst then delete all of them
    Restart your computer

  • Is there a fix for Arial Narrow not showing up in InDesign? I need it!!

InDesign CS5, Windows7.  I am seeing where lots of people are having trouble, but has anyone found a fix?  Arial Narrow and it's font family is supposedly installed in Windows/Fonts, but is not available in InDesign.  Arial narrow only shows up under Arial as a family member, not its own family.  I NEED Arial Narrow Bold to work! I am behind schedule.

  • Uninstalling the Arial Narrow hot fix ?

I have a bit of a dilemma. As many others here have experienced, when I went to Vista Home Premium on a new system and running Office 2007, the only Arial Narrow font showing up in InDesign CS2 was regular. I did some online research and read something about older versions of Arial Narrow fonts would fix the problem. I have a CD of fonts I copied from my previous system that has an older version of the Arial Narrow family than currently on my new system, so as a test I decided to install just one and see if it works. So I chose Arial Narrow Bold and installed the older version (v2.30) over the newer version (v2.37). Normally, I back up any files/fonts I'll be overwriting but didn't do it this time (old age setting in). Well, it didn't work and after reopening InDesign, Arial Narrow Bold was still not in the list.
I then read about the hot fix, so downloaded it and installed it as well as deleting all the AdobeFnt10.lst files on my system. I reopened InDesign and low and behold, all Arial Narrow fonts were in the list...except bold, the one I'd replaced. Thinking reinstalling the original version would get it back, I had a friend send me the 2.37 version of Arial Narrow Bold and installed it over the older version. Nothing. Still no bold showing up in the list even after again deleting all the AdobeFnt10.lst files.
This leads me to believe the hot fix only works when the original fonts are in the system at the time it's installed. Once the hot fix is installed, reinstalling the font after the fact doesn't work. Is that how it works? If so, I'm wondering if I were able to uninstall or somehow remove the hot fix, then reinstall it, I may get the bold back along with the others.
BTW, in checking the current versions of Arial Narrow that were loaded with my new system, they're all v2.40 except the bold which is v2.37. I had two of my friends who are running the same OS and Office check their Arial Narrow versions and their bold version is 2.37 as well.
If anyone knows how to remove the hot fix, please let me know.

Take a look in Regedit at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts and see if you see all those numbered versions. That's the location in XP and it might be different for Vista, but you should be able to find it doing a registry search for Arial Narrow. I'd do this after deleting the font from the fonts folder.
Just to be safe, set a restore point, and back up the registry, because While I think it will be safe to edit this key, I haven't tried it and blind registry editing is always a risk.
If there are multiple entries, try deleting them all. If only one, double-click to see the value data and try editing to remove the number, or delete the entry entirely (probably better if the font has been removed).

  • Illustrator CS2 Suddenly not Recognizing Arial Narrow Fonts

I created a graphic earlier today that used Arial Narrow Bold Italic. Later on today I had to update the graphic with new information and now it is telling me I don't have the font installed. The Arial Narrow fonts are in the fonts folder and are recognized by all other CS apps, Office apps, etc. I have replaced the fonts countless times since getting this message, restarted my computer, all to no avail. I eventually had to go to another computer to do the update. I even tried copying the fonts from that computer to mine and I still get the same error in Illustrator.
I don't know what the heck happened. I didn't install any new fonts between the time I made the graphic and the time I tried to update it. Do I need to re-install Illustrator? I need to know ASAP, as I will be updating this graphic tomorrow and of course would still like to use Arial Narrow in Illustrator.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Btw, I'm on WinXP SP2.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to CS3. Haven't explored the reasoning behind it but did try resetting (deleting) several PREF files, reinstalling the font, but nothing changed. I did find the following: Select ARIAL font and under FONT STYLE select the NARROW option. This will be give you the equivalent of NARROW REGULAR but there are no direct style options for italic, bold, or bold italic. Since I don't use the font that much, my only work around was to apply a stroke of .15-.25pt to the text for bold and a 20° shear for italic.
If anybody's got a answer to why ARIAL NARROW got wrapped as a font style of ARIAL and not just a font, such ARIAL BLACK, etc., it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Problems with reader an arial narrow font

like the title of the thread says , y have a problem opening some pdfs , not with all , the problem is an error message telling me that  the arial narrow font is not available and the pdf is filled with dots instead of characters . I´ve tried to change fonts folder in windows but it didnt result , so i dont know what to do , i´ve also tried use the option of use local fonts only but it doesn´t works.
PD: Sorry for my bad english , I hope someone could help me , thanks in advance

I believe the .lst font files only exist on mac, and the PC .lst file are some MS office format.
Have not used amp font viewer as I have suitcase on my Win machine, but try closing all unnecesary fonts, especially arial narrow. I do remember an ID conflict with one of the olders versions of Helvetica Neu with arial.
Did this used to work before and is something that started up recently, you may want to look into what new installs you had, search through and kill your processes one by one, or do a system restore.
Finally I would look at your copy of arial bold, and disbale that and install and opentype version. The newer opentype version will probably use one fo the newer FOND IDs adn you will have access to more characters and be crossplatfrom. If you cannot disbale arial bold, then it is the version that is one of the sytem core fonts, and you can try repairing your windows install which may replace that.
You may have a bad sector, run checkdisk

  • Arial Narrow the 658753213rd

I went nuts today wit the Arial Narrow Win7 Bug.
After some hours i replaced them with my 1998 files and deletet the 3 adobe Fontlist entries.
Now my Arial narrow, still show up unter arial, but the 3 other (bold, narrow itali and bold italic) are dsiplayed under Arial Narrow.
So it is still near unusable cause i cant use shorcuts to switch a text to bold.
    Anyone an Idea?!?
I ran out of 'em after 4 hours and a lot of tea ...
    thx all

This Microsoft font screwup bugged me so much, I put togtether my own instructions on fixing it for future use. After following this procedure your Arial and Arial Narrow fonts will reside properly inside Adobe CS4/5 apps:
Adobe CS4 Missing Font Issues (Vista and Windows 7)
Arial Narrow fonts only show up under ‘Arial’ as ‘Narrow’ Regular, with Bold, Italic and Bold Italic unavailable.
Font files cannot be copied and pasted, but dragging seems to work to make copies available. Drag the four Arial Narrow fonts from C:\Windows\Fonts onto your Desktop and then place them into to the following folders:
    InDesign
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Fonts
    Photoshop and Illustrator
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
    Photoshop (64-bit)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
NOTE: Create the Fonts folder if it does not exist.

  • Arial narrow [regular] issues

My job just got vista and I am having issues with arial narrow regular appearing. I have the fonts in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts as well as windows\fonts but I still get Arial Narrow [regular] as my arial narrow default. All the other families bold, italic, bolditalic are fine. My coworker gets regular fine but her bolditalic comes up with the brackets.
Any idea how to resolve this?

Just a followup. I also couldn't get InDesign to "see" my OpenType Utopia family even after following the fixes in this thread, so sadly, I had to install the postscript version of Utopia in the C:\PSFONTS folder.
When I launched InDesign, the entire family was available again, in all the Adobe apps. So Peter's apparently correct in that Adobe programs can access fonts even if they're only loaded only in the default Windows\font directory.
I'm still hoping for a definitive answer as to why I and other folks are having font recognition problems even when the fonts ARE installed where they should be and are visible to other programs like Word.

  • Help!! Arial Narrow missing in Adobe Reader 9.4.7

    Hello
I have the latest Adobe Reader 9.4.7 and I am having trouble with the font Arial Narrow. When I open a file which has that font  I get an error saying "Cannot find or create the font 'ArialNarrow'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Any idea how I can fix this?
I have already reinstalled Adobe Reader twice and I still have this issue. I am using Windows 7 Pro (64 Bit).
    Looking for some help.
    Thanks.

It's certainly possible but, not only does the font have to be the same name, it has to be the exact font. In other words, it would have to be made by the same foundry, the same year...etc.
But there's a decent chance this is it: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/family.aspx?FID=22

  • Arial Narrow for Illustrator and inDesign

How do I get Arial Narrow installed for Illustrator and inDesign? It's loaded as a Windows 7 True Type font in my computer.

Sounds like a different version of Arial was used on these previous documents. Can you create a new document with the Arial Narrow you have installed, save it, close Illy or ID, then reopen the document without the warning?
If not, your copy of Arial Narrow could be corrupt despite Adobe products being finnicky about such things.
