Hi,
Nothing we can do actually, that's Microsoft's policy. I've got 2 machines run Windows 8.1 and 3 machines run Windows 8.1 upgraded. All I need: one copy and can applly for 3 machines (all are much better). Unfortunately I have to use Store for EACH machine to upgrade to Windows 8.1 if I have to restore.
Regards.

  • Making data in tables online and offline - Backup and Recovery

    Hi All,
I'm working on a project where the functionality is similar to 'Backup and Recovery' for database tables.
Lets say we have a set of 6 tables T1, T2.... T6. They do have relationship between them. The tables in questions are simple standard tables, which are not table partitioned.
    - I want remove the records from live tables based on user entered date ranges and store it in some offline medium.
    - I might want make the data online again from the offline medium; Application should be able use that data without any modifications.
    - Different offline mediums can be
    a) Flat file
    b) Different table space
    c) Any other secondary medium (like XML, tape..Etc,)
The total number of records will run in millions.
    The proposed solution should consider,
    1. Performance - Java solutions not feasible. Anything in SQL, PL/SQL or runs in DB itself(tools) are OK.
    2. Reliability - Should be highly reliable, Data corruption simply unacceptable.
    3. Security - Users should not be able to make out of the file.
    Few options include:
    1. Use partition
    2. Use SQL*Loader
    3. Export and import of tables.
    My main targets:
    1. Reduce space.
    2. Increase performance for queries.
Please pass on your suggestions, any help is highly appreciated!
    Thanks In Advance!

    Few points to note:
    1. I agree partition would be right solution, but as I mentioned in my earlier statement, 'The tables in questions are simple standard tables, which are not table partitioned.'. The tables right now are not partitioned and I believe we cannot add/modify partitions, if the table were not created with the partition option. One work around is to build a partitioned table and copying all the properties(indexes, rows, constraints) from the existing non-partitioned table. But I suspect this is highly riskier and we can't afford to it.
    2. I need to support Oracle database versions starting from 8.0.6.
    3. Flat file is mandatory, others are optional. I can restrict our discussion just for a file.
    4. Considering the above points, the only option I could think of is I can move the records from the table to flat file and remove from tables. When required rollback the file data to the table and application would be able to use it. For export/import few options are: SQL*loader, exp/imp utilities, PL/SQL file UTL packages

  • HP Backup and Recovery Manager for Windows 7

I installed all the softwares and drivers that came along with the HP upgrade DVD. But, I find that the Backup and Recovery Manager missing on the DVD. Is there a Backup and Recovery Manager for Win 7? I liked the backup and recovery manager that was available on my Vista when I bought this laptop but is now unavailable because of the upgrade!! Any solutions for this? I do not want to use the default Windows Backup as I do not have a separate HDD at the moment to store the backup there and do not wish to populate my local hard disk with backup data!! Thanks.

Yea, basically. There's no working program for your laptop so it seems that you can use from within Windows 7.
However, if you have problems, recovery discs will work. As well, if your recovery partition still exists, you can still access it by pressing F11 when you see the HP logo at startup.

  • Dell Backup and Recovery - Factory Recovery fails, need advice.

    Back story:
I have tried this three times on three separate laptops, with poor results. Windows 7 on two of them and 8.1 one one, on all three the recovery partition is corrupt.I first boot it off of a live disk and backup any desired files. Then I boot, press F8, choose "Repair your computer" and discover that "Dell Factory Image Restore" is not one of the available options... so I boot the pc off of a different live disk and remove a bunch of "viruses", then I boot it off of the internal harddrive. In Windows I find that "Dell Backup and Recovery" may or may not be on the pc. It may or may not have ever been run before. If it is absent I download it and install it. When I run DBaR it tells me it needs to update, don't power off or disconnect the machine from the internet, etc. I then wait HOURS for this part to complete. When done it...

    Dear Expertise,
Recent set up SharePoint server 2013 Enterprise, and looking for backup and recovery solution, does the built in Windows Backup can handle it, and how?
    KF

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to know some backup and restore solution for SharePoint 2013.
There are two Technet articles about the backup and restore, you can have a look at them.

  • Backup and Recovery procedures for production system

I am trying to decide and test a best backup/recovery approach for our DBXML database in the production environment. Right now I am trying to go through the documentation.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_txn/CXX/filemanagement.html
What is the best option among offline, hot and incremental backups?
I am thinking of implementing incremental backups.
What are the constraints in implementing incremental backups? Is there a detailed step by step example to do this?
Can I test the backup and recovery procedures by copying the db files and log files from Linux (production) environment to my local machine (Windows XP)? I see only one log.00000000xx file in production and staging environments. It is of same size 52428800 in all our environments (both production and staging) at this point of time.
What is __db.001 file? What is the significance of this file in backup and recovery procedures?
A detailed input with example is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advancs

    Raghu,
A couple of points, up front:
    1. the __db* files are the environment (cache, locks, various shared memory regions), and are not part of backup, other than the fact that you need to checkpoint or otherwise flush your cache to your database(s) for a full backup.
    2. log files are not architecture-neutral. That is you can't use a log file created on linux and just use it safely on another hardware platform. It's OK to copy them around, but they can only be used on the same architecture that created them. Database files (containers) are entirely portable among hardware and operating system platforms.
I don't know of a step-by-step cookbook for backups. This is because of the variations among application needs. However, the procedures described on this page are pretty straightforward:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_txn/CXX/backuprestore.html
I'm not sure what you mean by "constraints" on incremental backups. The only constraint is that you need to have a full backup first, or you won't be able to recover properly. Based on what I said above, the other constraint is that you'll only be able to recover on a machine of the same architecture as the one that created the log files.
As for testing, you can certainly copy your database and log files to your Windows machine, treating Windows as an offline backup. If you want to test recovery, you need to copy the files back to Linux. You'll start seeing additional log files when your log data starts to exceed the configured log file size.
Let me know if you need more clarification,
    Regards,
    George

  • Need clarification for cold backup and recovery

    Hello Everyone ..
I have much confusion on cold backup and recovery topic.
Already i posted a scanario regarding this and i want to know some clarity points to understand.
    1. I had cold backup two days before
    2. I am creating an object *(EMP)* and inserting some records then issue log switch continiously.
    3. Manually i removed all physical files (datafiles , control files , log files , redolog files ...)
    4. then i issued STARTUP FORCE MOUNT;
    5. here i am getting error identifying control file.
    6. cold backup two days before all files restored
    6. then i issue recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
    7. i am trying to issue select * from emp; i am getting error
    select * from emp
    *ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00942: table or view does not existMy QUESTION IS
After cold backup finished , i created emp table ..
when restoring old back " There is no emp table"
*- then , can i recover emp table ? - If so , please explain about this ..*
    Note : REF - LINK https://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=11056341#11056341
    - Above link says what i did ? . In this thread i am asking concept & logic ..
please do NOT consider as "*DUPLICATE*"

When you recover the database using backup controlfile until cancel, you have to apply archived logs. Did you apply all of them?
If the create command was in the online redo, not yet archived, and you lost the online redo, then you won't have it. This is why you want to have redo multiplexed, it is a critical piece.
In some recovery scenarios, if you haven't lost the online redo, you need to specify those files as if they were archives.
It is normally easier to just be sure you have the latest controlfiles and let Oracle figure it out automatically (which is why you want to use online RMAN backups rather than cold backups). But yes, it is important to understand what is going on for different scenarios. I used to have manual standbys, and one of the disaster instruction sets explained to try to get online redo over to the standby to lose as few transactions as possible. That could still be useful for some snapshot hardware type scenarios, assuming the business is too cheap to do proper failovers.

  • Dv6775us HP Backup and Recovery Manager software corrupted - can't find download

I am getting an HP error message saying the HP Backup and Recovery Manager software has been corrupted and needs to be updated. For over an hour I have been frustrated trying to find where on this site to download a replacement of what was installed or an upgrade that would repair the problem.
Can anyone point me to where I can get the software? Thanks.
    HP Pavilion dv6775us
    Vista Home Advanced

Did you make a recovery disk set or usb recovery media?
If you did, then you are in luck because  that is the software that can be used to reinstall the Recovery manager.
The downside is that you will have to do a  factory image recovery to reinstall the software.  A recovery is a destructive process, unlike a Windows stystem restore. A recovery will mean that you  will needto save all of your data externally  to avoid losing it and reinstall all of your programs after the recovery is complete.

  • Rescue and Recovery after update from Windows Vista to 7

I've updated my 2 years old Lenovo T60 from the preinstalled Windows Vista to Windows 7. For short: I like it.
I kept the recovery partition but now want to update it, to keep it in sync with the current windows and Rescue and Recovery versions. By the way, due to earlier problems the system in this versions is not functional anymore. I tied to read the manual of Rescue and Recovery, but didn't get it...
Is their an "easy" way (or documentation) to accomplish that?
    Thanks and Greetings

The factory partition can't be updated - it is your recovery for what came out of the box with the system.  You can create factory recovery CD's/DVD's and store them somewhere just in case, and then you should be able to remove that partition and reclaim the space.  At that point, Rescue and Recovery for Win7 becomes your sole recovery option.
There is a lot of new architecture in the Win7 version of R&R so you can't "upgrade" it from Vista - you'll need to install the new version in Win7.  It would probably be a good idea to burn your Vista Rescue and Recovery backups to CD/DVD before you upgrade, too.

I registered a SR on metalink, and the support person could not find it either....
    Here is what they said:
Unfortunately despite my best efforts I have not been able to retrieve this 9.0.4 tool for you.
    It has been discontinued.
I am closing this TA as unresolved.
Please note that in the Collaboration Suite 10G there is a new tool called: ocs_bkp_restore.sh
