  • Computer enters sleep mode shortly after leaving sleep mode. Defect?

I have a problem. It's not a serious problem, but since it seems to be hardware related it might cause problem in the future.
It's pretty simple. Let's say I fold the computer screen down and leave the computer in sleep mode. If I then fold it up again it will automatically enter sleep mode once again 25-30 seconds after waking up. It doesn't matter what I do. I can be completely passive or open any app and move the cursor as much as I like. After roughly 30 seconds the screen turns black and I have to press a key to wake it up.
It never enters sleep mode any other time if I don't choose so, it's always after being in sleep mode already. And it happens 80-90% of the time, but I have not noticed a pattern for when it doesn't.
Naturally my settings are in order. I just updated it today and no difference after one attempt with the new OS version.
    Any ideas?

    Sleep.
Shutting down a Mac is never required. It is best to let it sleep, unless you are planning to not use it for a period of time considerably longer than a few days.

please start firefox in safemode (by pressing the shift-key while it is launching) & go to ''firefox > options > advanced > general'' & disable hardware acceleration.

Okay, I seem to have solved the problem I posted about earlier.  I noticed that the language preference in the upper right hand corner of the screen (between the date and time and the Spotlight icon) had somehow gotten switched from American English to French.  When I switched it back to American English, my password worked when waking the computer from sleep mode.  I have no idea why changing the language preference would affect the way the password works but that seems to have been the case.  I'll post again if I experience more problems.

  • Since upgrading to LionEvery time I wake the computer from sleep mode I have to wait several minutes until the computer connects to the Internet

Since upgrading to LionEvery time I wake the computer from sleep mode I have to wait several minutes until the computer connects to the Internet

I have found that Lion is slower to connect to WiFi when awakening than were previous Mac OS X versions.  However, the WiFi connection usually takes less than 15 seconds unless a Time Machine backup was interrupted when my computer was put to sleep.  When this happens and the computer awakens, the Time Machine backup attempts to continue prior to the WiFi connection having been made.  Until the Time Machine backup fails due to its inability to connect to my Time Capsule because of no WiFi connection, or I stop it manually, the WiFi connection will not occur.  So if Time Machine backups are on, you may be experiencing this bug which I have reported to Apple.

  • Photosmart 6525 Autoconnection after Windows 8 machine awakes from sleep mode

I received a Photosmart 6525 printer a month ago and love it.  I initially had it connected to an HP Touchsmart computer and had no issues with it. I moved the printer to a new HP Omni 27 running Windows 8 this week (as well as upgrading my router to an Asus RT-N66R).  The printer is not currently attached to the Omni 27 via USB as the wireless set up tested fine and I printed various documents without issue. The computer and printer are on a power strip and arranged such that when the computer goes to sleep or is shut down, it powers down other items, one of which is the printer. When the printer was used with the Touchsmart computer (also connected wirelessly), it automatically reconnected itself to the wireless network when the Touchsmart came out of sleep mode.  I'm finding with the Omni 27, however, that when it comes out of sleep mode the printer's wireless connection light flashes and I have to manually enter the passphrase on the printer in order for it to reconnect to the network.  It does connect once I enter the passphrase.  I've tried reinstalling the printer a couple of times but it doesn't seemed to have corrected the issue.  I guess one alternative may be to move the power cord to a dedicated outlet that never powers down.  I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this issue but would appreciate any thoughts.

I always recommend a direct connection to a wall outlet.  That should resolve the issue.  You can also turn off "Auto Off" from the front panel-->setup-->preferences.

  • HP Pavilion 500 series running Windows 8 not returning from sleep mode

I've just bought a Pavilion desktop 500 series running Windows 8.
When the pc goes into sleep mode, I wiggle the mouse (as usual) to re-awaken it. The screen returns, and I can see my screen saver (a rotating series of photos), and the icons on the taskbar for the items that I have open, but all the icons on my desktop have disappeared and, whilst I can move the mouse pointer around, no amount of clicking will bring anything up.
I have tried switching users (my wife shares the pc under a different user name) to see if this works, but still no change. The only thing that appears to work is to switch the computer off and back on again.

Well, contacted the weblink helpdesk, only to be told that, as they were in the USA and I in the UK, they couldn't help me and to contact the UK. This is via an 0844 number at 5p/minute. Looked up all the other (supposed) helplinks, which suggest that the user goes through a swathe of possibilities to cure the issue, without actually diagnosing the problem.
Bit the bullet and phoned the helpdesk. 22 minutes of chat later, the solutions offered were (a) return the pc to the retailer under warranty or (b) perform a systme restore which means backing up all my data (again), re-formatting the system, then re-installing all my software and data again less than two weeks since I last did it. Of course, there's no guarantee that this will actually cure the issue.
For the meantime, I've set the sleep modes on the pc and screen to "never" to see if that makes a difference......

  • Firefox crashes windows 7 when recovering from sleep mode

    Similar to the following:
    http://support.mozilla.com/pl/forum/1/627872?s=window+7+crash&as=s
but not sure whether it depends on pages that are currently opened.
Sometimes, when recovering from sleep mode on win7 (with only Firefox and VS2008 running), win7 crashes. What's important - It doesn't happen always, but still, it's annoying (Firefox starts with startpage only).
I've been noticing this issue on different Firefox versions from Firefox 3.5 to 3.6.6.

Same exactly problem here, very annoying when the computer goes to sleep mode and then Firefox locks up.

  • Windows 10 - won't enter sleep mode

So I updated to windows 10 roughly a week ago. I have had sleep issues from day one with it not being able to wake up if it didn't enter sleep mode properly. I ended up just remembering to hit the power button or shut the lid and that was enough to put it into sleep mode and was able to wake it after opening. I saw another user said to update the Bios driver... that was working til a windows update. Two/Three days ago windows had an automatic update and that seemed to cause the problem again. But now I cannot get it into sleep mode at all even with the power button,  closing the lid and even going to start and hitting sleep. it turns off the screen and the power light continues to just be on without blinking and the fan keeps running.  This computer is only 6 months ago and I am getting frusterated. I will probably go back to 8.1 as having to hard power down the computer can't be good for it everytime I walk away and forget to completely power it down. Does anyone have another solution I can try before I jump ship?

I have installed all updates from Windows Update and all drivers from Toshiba US website. I can't find the Service Station for Windows 10 from Toshiba website.  I only found the one for Windows 8.

  • Firefox is not allowing windows 7 to go into sleep mode.

The new version of Firefox 6.0 is not allowing Windows 7(64-bit) to go into sleep mode. When the browser window is closed it will go into sleep mode. When I have Firefox running it won't go into sleep mode. This only started happening once I upgraded to version 6. How to I fix it, or is it a known issue?

Found it in another thread here.  It was a queued print job.  Looks like its a common problem and maybe a bug?  Once it was deleted, sleep was back to normal.

  • Y40-70 freezes after Windows 10 Upgrade when in sleep mode

Hello,  I have a y40-70 that is newly upgraded to windows 10 with all of the new drivers from the lenovo downloads page. Over the past couple of days I have noticed that when I close the lid of my laptop to put it into sleep mode, the comuter will boot back up after a time and remain frozen, with a black screen and the two left LED's on the front lit up. The only thing that unfreezes the laptop is to force a restart by holding down the power button.  I am wondering if anyone has encountered this problem, or perhaps a solution?

FYI: Long post ahead! So trying to do a clean instal was quite an adventure! I wasn't able to roll back to 8.1 because of reasons, apparently. The recovery options would just say that there had been an error and I couldn't do it. What I ended up having to do was to use One Key Recovery to restore the factory image, which comes with all of Lenovo's software. Thinking that this might be a source of possible conflict, I downloaded the Windows 8.1 media creation tool and used it to create a bootable USB on a 16 GB USB drive. Using that, I wiped the OS partition and did a clean install of Win8.1. Because the product key is embedded in the BIOS, you don't have to enter it in manually (just skip that step if it asks you) and the first time you connect to the internet, it will automatically activate after several minutes. After that, I grabbed the Windows 10 media creation tool. Here's where I ran into a weird issue. When creating the bootable USB stick for Win10 and trying to install from it, everything moved at a glacial pace. I let it run for over 12 hours and it never got past 67% of step 2! Meanwhile Win8.1 installed in about 20 minutes. What I ended up having to do is use the Win10 media creation tool to do an in place upgrade. Each time you run the tool it asks if you want to upgrade the current PC or to create media to install on a different PC. If you choose to upgrade the current PC, it will download Win10 and install it on the laptop. The download and installation together took me around 40 minutes, but your time may vary depending on your download speed. After it downloads the Win10 files, it will give you options as to what you want to keep on your current install. Since I wanted this to be as clean as I could make it, changed the default, "keep files and settings," to "keep nothing." It will wipe Win8.1 and do a clean install of Win10 when doing this. The install went well and I'm in the process of installing the various Lenovo drivers. I'm not quite done yet as I ran out of time yesterday when I was doing all this becuase I had to go to work. So far though, I've had 0 problems after doing this clean installation of Win10. I'm going to finish installing the drivers and my software over the next day or two and keep testing to see if I can reproduce the issues we've been having. I'll keep you guys updated. Hopefully this will help, since it doesn't seem that either MS or Lenovo is doing much to figure out what's going on and provide their own fixes.

  • WIndows 10 Not recovering from Sleep mode. Hard resetting every time.

I have a HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC with WIndows 10. Everytime I put the Notebook on Sleep mode, it gets hard reset next time i open the lid. I have tried upgrading the Graphics driver from Device settings and have looked for updates for all other driver suing HP support assistant. Problem still exists.  Anyone with a solution? Please help.

  • Windows wont wake up from sleep mode.

I have a Macbook Pro (7,1) running OS X Lion(10.7.2). This week, I installed Windows 7 Professional using bootcamp 4.0. Everything works great, except waking from sleep mode. I searched various forums, reset PRAM parameters but the issue persists. Now, everytime windows goes to sleep, I have to hardboot by holding the power button. Windows restarts saying the shutdown didnt happen properly.  Pl.help.

I came across these two useful links. The problem is not gone but is less frequent now.
    http://www.wintellect.com/CS/blogs/jrobbins/archive/2009/11/16/fixing-a-nasty-wi ndows-7-mac-pro-sleep-and-hibernation-problem.aspx
    http://www.troublefixers.com/macbook-does-not-hibernate-sleep-in-windows-7-insta lled-in-dual-boot-with-bootcamp/
John Robbin's solution of resetting PRAM/NVRAM addressed the problem but only temporarily in my case. The problem would recur in an hour.
Abhishek's blog address the opposite problem, but his solution of not having any programs in windows start up helps. I removed skype from the startup.
I also started using Parallels to bring up the bootcamp windows and that too provided a workaround.
    Looking for a cleaner solution.

I want to ensure that I am not increasing the liklihood of malfunction my simply closing the lid.
