Windows 8.1 crashing before login. Help needed.
I just installed Boot Camp from a Windows 8.1 .iso on a USB drive. I ran all Windows updates, installed AVG free and Google Chrome. Nothing else. Everything was running smoothly during all the restarts and updates. Now, when I reboot from OS X and hold option, I select Windows. The Windows spinning dots start happening, and then it crashes, restarting the machine. Sometimes, it will get all the way to the login screen. If, however, I'm in OS X and shut down the computer, wait a few seconds, hold option, and select Windows, Windows boots up fine. It's a workaround, but before I install everything else (Steam library, Minecraft files, etc.) and use Winclone to back it up, I want rather have it working as it should.
Things I've tried:
1) Starting from scratch: removing the Boot Camp partition and doing a fresh install of everything.
2) Running CHKDSK from within Windows; everything seems okay.
3) Reinstalling Boot Camp Utility from within Windows. No change.
4) Frowning, grunting, and swearing.
It's a mid-2014 MBPr, 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB of Ram, a 1 TB hd, and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (2 GB of video RAM), if that helps.
I've read more forums and articles than I can count, and the only thing I found was the suggestion to shut it down and reboot that way. Any ideas from folks who know more than I do? Thanks in advance!
We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here

Windows XP Machine Freeze before Login Screen 2015
Has there been any Windows updates applied recently that may be causing this? Has any new hardware been added to them? A virus seems unlikely but not impossible. How old are the machines and how many is this happening to?
When you get to System Restore, what is the last checkpoint showing as having a Restore point created for? It is quite likely that that event is causing this
You really need to look at getting off XP - it is out of support and is going to have more and more of these problemsHi All,
Suddenly all machines running Windows XP just freezes before the login screen comes.
Windows boots up. Showing the LOGO but just before the login screen comes it just freezes.
I have performed system restore some restore and boots up but some does not restore.
On Some of the computers that have been restored successfully, this problem has reoccured. The are instance where we have formatted a machine completely, but after a while this problem reoccurs.
I am suspecting a virus but not totally sure.
Can anyone help

Email account on Windows 8 Laptop to iPhone & iPad help needed
Hello all,
I have a Windows 8 laptop with an Eastlink (pop) email account using Outlook 2010 as my email software. I have an iPhone 4s and an iPad mini. In the past on a older laptop with Outlook 2003, and prior to ios7, when I checked my email on my phone, I could see the messages and delete, read etc. Then when I checked my email later on using my laptop, the messages on my phone would disappear and move to my laptop email. This is no longer the case. I have configured my Eastlink mail on the iPad and iPhone as imap and when I check my email, I can see the Eastlink email messages but they stay there and do not ever show up in my Outlook 2010 account on my laptop. I need to figure out the settings to change to get this working the way it used to. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
Leslie Harnish
Windows 8 laptop, iPhone 4s, iPad Mini userI think I'm understanding but correct me if I'm not getting it. My laptop is a POP account so when I check mail, it is removed from the Eastlink mail server and the messages end up in my Outlook 2010 software on the laptop - this setting has been in place long before I got an iPhone. It is my "master account" for lack of a better word.
Then, when I got my iPhone, I was able to check my email through the settings for IMAP. If I'm understanding correctly, what I see on my phone is a copy of what is still sitting on the Eastlink server and the original stays on the Eastlink server until I physically download it to the POP account. I don't want all of my mail on the Eastlink server all the time, I'd like to clear it off of there and have it on my laptop. I have a large archive of messages in my Outlook software, some going back to 2008 which I need to keep as they pertain to things I can't delete. Am I missing something by thinking that if I had my laptop email set as IMAP all along, even when using the laptop, I would have been leaving all those messages on the Eastlink server and that would have had me over my quota pretty quickly?
When I first got the phone, my laptop settings were never changed to IMAP yet when I checked the mail on my phone, I could see the messages, then when I got home to my laptop and downloaded my email, they magically disappeared from my phone automatically because they were no longer on the Eastlink server but were now on the laptop. This stopped after one of the upgrades that eventually ended up being IOS7. I swear it used to work that way. I've gone to wiki and read about IMAP and POP but I must be missing some basic understanding.
Thanks in advance and thanks for your patience with me as I try to figure this out. -

I suspect this is causing a few of my other programs to crash as well.
Please Help!
JamieHi Jamie,
The install log looks fine, but the last entry was September 9th. I suspect the crash is occuring before the new log entries can be made.
Could you please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com? We'll want to get a crash dump so we can try to figure out what might be causing this to happen. You didn't mention what OS you were running, but I found this tech doc on the net that describes how do generate the .dmp file:

I got my iPod Touch 4g for Christmas 2011 and for the first 2 weeks everything worked fine - I could download apps; use apps to their full potential; use FaceTime; use everything.
But after the two weeks, the iPod decided to no longer work as well as it had promised. First of all, it would take more than 2 hours to download a single app from the app store and then, straight after that, I couldn't connect to FaceTime (it had worked perfectly before). Then, finally, to top it all off - Facebook and Twitter stopped working on occasions. For example, I couldn't post/send messages or photos on Twitter and at the majority of the time, the News Feeds wouldn't load.
Sometimes everything works but most of the time it doesn't. I've tried my iPod at every time of the day and it makes no difference - nothing still works! Also, I don't think it is the fault of my wireless internet because I've had an iPod touch before and it worked perfectly, and the laptop that I am writing this question on also works perfectly with wifi.
The weird thing is that I have used my iPod to its full potential (everything worked fine) at my friends hosue on multiple occasions - using his wifi. I am really lost for ideas for what to do - I have uninstalled all the apps that don't work with the internet (facebook, twitter) and have always made sure that I have closed apps after using them, so that my iPod wouldn't run slow.
My iPod has been like this for over a month now, help would be appreciatedDo you have a blackberry data plan active. On your account? You need an active blackberry data plan to use the majority of data functions on your phone, even if you are connected to wifi

IPhoto broken - Empty window when I open the application - Help needed
Hi Guys,
Since my upgrade to Snow Leopard my iPhoto 09 has been completely broken. What I get when I start it up is an empty window. No pictures on the right pane and no menus on the left pane. I read many threads about iPhoto issues, and so I have tried to rebuild the library, reinstall iPhoto from the disk I got with my mac. Still the same problem: On startup, iPhoto opens with a completely blank window. All I have are the three buttons at the bottom left side of the window (+, info and enlarge). Only if I click "+" to add a new album the menus on the left pane (events, photos...) appear. A few clicks on these menus and iPhoto crashes. All this, done with a new, clean library. I moved the old one, and keep it for the day I'll get iPhoto to work again. Hope you guys can help. This is painfully frustrating. Thanks for help Terrence
I am using Suitcase Fusion 2 and just activitating Helvetica Neue in Suitcase seemed to fix this problem I have had for several months.
I highly recommend doing the activation in Suitcase instead of just droping it into the System Fonts folder. This will allow for Suitcase to activate or deactivate the font. If you put the font into one of your folders, Suitcase can not deactivate, which might be necessary if your job uses a different version of Helvetica Neue. -

Windows 10 - LMI crashes on login
When accessing a Windows 10 computer with the LMI client installed it freezes during the Windows login process (when you enter your password and click enter to get into your computer). I installed the LMI client on 2 different non-domain-joined Windows 10 laptops and the symptom is the same on both. I am accessing the Win10 computers from a Windows 7 computer using IE11. I have no login-freezing issues when accessing other Win7, Win8, 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 computers. This is exclusive to Windows 10. Also, all computers are using client v5224.
I was able to resolve simply by completely uninstalling Logmein, rebooting, and reinstalling

Xserve G5 crashing, help needed please
Hi All
I have an Xserve G5 which has become very unstable. I did post this in another discussion group but figure this one maybe more helpful...
The problem first occurred a few months back with Samba generating huge log files so this service was deactivated.
The CPU activity will go through the roof and the main culprits seem to be PasswordService and cupsd
The services running on the machine are:
AFP
DHCP
DNS
Firewall
FTP - Using CrushFTP 4.4.2
Mail - Using Kerio MailServer 6.4.1 patch 1 build 3801
NAT
OD Master
QLAServer 4.01
Web
The specs are:
Dual 2GHz G5 7GB RAM 10.4.11 Server
Xserve RAID connected
Tandberg StorageLoader connected via SCSI card, Retrospect runs every evening for a few hours backing up a server volume and client machines.
No video card installed so use ARD 3.2 if I need GUI access
I rebuilt OD last weekend and did the 10.4.11 update and all looked ok until both PasswordService and cupsd crashed around the same time on Tuesday morning.
Below is a snippet from some log files:
cupsd error log file is full of the following, approx. 12,000 lines
E 20/Nov/2007:08:07:32 +0000 Unable to accept client connection - Too many open files.
The cupsd access log file has thousands of this entry:
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 306
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 201
localhost - - 20/Nov/2007:09:50:14 +0000 "POST /jobs/ HTTP/1.1" 200 216
The ApplePasswordServer error log file is filled with the following, approx. 600,000 lines:
Nov 20 2007 08:06:17 Unknown listener exception error.
There are 5 35MB log files full of this error generated from the crash.
Any help in diagnosing this problem would be greatly appreciated and I will post more entries from any log files if needed.
Thanks very much in advance.
PaulShould confirm the Xserve is running 10.4.11
Kerio Mail Server is not running as an open relay and we do get a fair amount of junk mail intercepted by the spam filter which averages about 300-400 per day with an additional smaller number making it through to various users inbox. The mail server user accounts are all synced by LDAP so I assume the PasswordService crash stopped Kerio.
This afternoon java CPU cycles went sky high, which has happened a few times over the last month or so, and returned to normal after quitting the process in the activity monitor. Then found I could not send an email but stopping then starting the mail server fixed this issue.
The following in the console log from this afternoon:

Nov 24 16:00:31 mailserver crashdump[9785]: crash report written to: /Users/admin/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Retrospect.crash.log
The server had been running Retrospect for about 24 hrs before this occurred and will post the Retrospect crash log if needed.
My main concerns at present are:
Is there too much load in the server which is leading to these problems.
Could this possibly be a hardware fault, though nothing is indicated in the System Monitor.
Could this be triggered by an outside influence such as a concerted hacking attempt?
Many thanks

Our software release date is next Thursday, August 18th, so I'm a bit panicky. What's happening has never happened before. Every time I try to generate WebHelp, RH9 crashes while "Updating Files". There are two of us working on the project...maybe something has gotten messed up? Can anyone tell me what I should check, or what I should do? Below is a screenshot of the error, as well as the error report itself.
In the above screenshot, you can see the Output View at the bottom of the window, and the crash happens during "Updating files..." Does anyone know what this means? I REALLY need help. If I can't get this figured out, we're in major trouble - possibly no Help released for our product. A trillion thanks in advance for anyone who can help.
Below is the contents of the error report
Message was edited by Peter Grainge - The text posted has been removed as it was over 100 pages long and made the thread very difficult for forum supporters to assist. I have deleted it and put the text into a text file that is attached. Can we start with some questions to see what is going on here.
Has this project ever compiled correctly, either in RH9 or another version?
Is this a new installation of RH9?
Can you generate any RH project. Try generating one of the supplied dummy projects (e.g. SalesBuilder)?
Can you generate any other output formats from this project (e.g. CHM)?
Have you tried creating a new WebHelp SSL?
If none of this works, perhaps you can post some more details of what exactly has changed since the last successful generation.

After Effects CS4 crash report (PLZ HELP I NEED IT WORKING DESPERATELY)

I'm using CS4 ONLY because I have a 32 bit Windows 8.1 computer which has Nvidia GFX card and an i5 processor.
It has 4GB of RAM and that's all you need to know. Please help me guys. <3
Thnx,What I meant was that it was running at all was a lucky happenstance.

Could Adobe actually see my personal data of my computer and just put an error message there to prevent me from using After Effects just because they realized that I have a Windows 8.1 32 bit computer?
No. There is no way they could do that. Especially not in CS4.
There are a lot of people in the same situation as you who pop on the forums with some frequency. Well, not usually trying to run such an old version - it's usually CS5 or CS5.5, but the issues are similar: odd error messages. Trying to run old versions of software on new, unsupported operating systems can be a fun exercise (like getting Linux installed on a potato). However, even if it does work for a while, the least little thing can cause it to foul up. Maybe Windows updated, maybe a background service that wasn't running before is running now, maybe something subtle changed in your registry or your display settings or any of a thousand different things. The bottom line is that something changed between when it was working and now.
The error message seems to indicate some sort of issue in your registry. That is a tricky area to mess around in. Have you installed ANYTHING on your computer between when it was working and now? Added any browser extensions? Installed any codec packs? Downloaded any apps? Updated any software?
By the way, it's not very expensive to bump up to a 64-bit version of your OS if you did want to use a modern version of After Effects. I mean, if you want to continue working with After Effects, it would be a lot easier to use an older OS or a newer AE than to keep trying to kludge it like we are. -
Login window crashes during login
I am having trouble with some student accounts. When a student tries to login they put in their information and press enter and the computer acts like it is going to log them in and then just refreshes the login window. The login window process does crash and creates a crashlog which I will paste at the end. The problem is not just with the machine because some other students can log into that machine.
We have over 50 students who are not able to log in right now. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

TOTAL 342.1MHi Azharislam, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward. -
PowerBook G4 crashes having installed 10.4.6 - Help needed!
Hi,
A composer colleague of mine's PowerBook G4 (2GB RAM) ran perfectly on OSX 10.3.9. To upgrade some music apps, he just went out and bought OSX 10.4.6 - which on the box says is compatible with Apple Macs with G3, G4 and G5 processors.
However, having installed it, the PowerBook perpetually crashes before it even fully boots. We cannot get to a full reboot.
We can, even now, boot from 10.3.9 on DVD; yet 10.4.6 crashes.
On my recommendation, my colleague went out and bought a full and new licensed version.
An hour with Apple Support yielded nothing - they keep saying his hardware must be at fault; btu this is a very well looked after 15" G4 PowerBook that until yesterday worked perfectly on 10.3.9 - so the hardware cannot be at fault.
Hence we are desperate and are hoping that someone else has encountered this and / or can offer real suggestions. He desperately needs the machine for upcoming music jobs and is now in a complete heap.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kevin.Hans
Thanks for your help.
We went back to basics and reformatted the hard drive. 10.4.6 will not install.
The machine will not install the original software discs either.
It does however boot up from an exact external backup copy of the machine before all this happened via firewire and works perfectly.
We've reformatted the internal hard disk to OS Extended (journaled) but have no idea what to do next as nothing will load onto it.
Any advice would be brilliant. The problem is that the upgrade was bought for a project that won't work on 10.3.9 so it is necessary.
