Windows 8.1 doesnt close firefox properly

I have a niggling problem with Firefox -
I am running the latest version of Firefox ( 35.0.1 ) and the latest version of Windows 8.1 - there are no updates available from Windows Update.
Regularly when I close Firefox by clicking the X in the top right corner, the Program seems to close, but wh en Igo to open it again by clicking on the Icon that I have pinned to my Taskbar I get a window with the error message :
"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."
I then close that Window and Fierfox restarts.

Since everything is in firefox profile which needs to be unlocked at time of opening of firefox. Do following steps which helps to you to solve this problem:
* Open '''Task Manager''' by right click on empty side of taskbar(located in bottom generally of windows) or press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC .
* Now click on '''Process''' tab and search for firefox.exe .
* Right click on that and choose '''End Process''' with '''Yes''' when asked by Task manager.
* delete all firefox.exe file from process if any other are existed there.
* now run firefox normally.
Again, if the above not works then try to '''Remove profile lock''' :
* Restart windows and not start your firefox after that.
* Go to Firefox Profile folder https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data#w_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox
* Delete the parent.lock file.
now run firefox.

If you don't need some / all of those toolbars, consider leaving them disabled.
You can probably remove these toolbars permanently from Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

Help since downloading windows 10 laptop wont close down properly

Can't open Firefox. When I try to open, a window pops saying "Close Firefox" and "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time.", and doesn't allow the application to open.

Came home to find computer restarted, which I assume is an automatic Firefox update.

When I close Firefox, the window closes but the Firefox.exe process and Plug-in Container remain running in the background and have to be shut down using Windows Task Manager.

This happens frequently. Something in Firefox continues to run even when the program is closed. The process has to be stopped before I can open Firefox again.

If I closed Firefox p.e. for an Windows update) I will return in the same opened websites. Maybe in Firefox 3.6 was this normal, but ever since it´s terrible to close Firefox, because I must save every opened website. Most of the time I work with 20 or 30 opened websites (tabs). Hope I get this solution back, because FF is than easy as before.

My usage: When Firefox starts show my home page, I have 13 tabs in a folder to be used as app-tab but frequently close all tabs if working on something else, then get them back by opening tabs in a folder and make them app-tabs. Do I really need a pop up window telling me that I just closed Firefox? Is there a way to disable it in options? I can't even use Buzof program to auto click for me. I've never had this issue with any other browser and I find it incredibly annoying.

Are you talking about Firefox or something else in the above statement. Firefox will, or should allow you to open quite a few tabs at startup if you wish, although it will be faster the fewer that you do open.

Foxfire stays in back gro I get this script when I try to get back on Foxfire after closing it. Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart.

This happens 95% of the time when I close Foxfire and then later try to get back on. I usually have to restart my computer before getting back on to Foxfire.

This happens straight after I have closed Firefox browser and then straight away, I want to open it again. Otherwise it will give this message and I will have to wait until it supposedly closes whatever is supposed to be running so that it can open -annoying!

The process is "firefox.exe" you will only see it in the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager, since you don't see it on the Windows Task Bar. You will have to terminate it from
there, since it was not actually closed.

- I've used Firefox exclusively for around 2 years.
- My outlook express has no problems
- other programs seem unaffected; it seems peculiar to Firefox.
- my main use is surfing the net, primarily entering competitions on line via specialist competition sites.
- every day at some stage(s) I have to switch computer off as Firefox has got very slow/sticky/freezes.
I'm not techy by any means, but I can only thing of un- and re-installing to hopefully start with a clean slate.

Long question, I know :~) There are web sites that I may visit that will not allow me to exit the site, so I use Alt-Ctrl-Del in Windows to start the Task Manager and force the site to close by ending the program. The new version of Firefox (31.0) thinks that Firefox crashed and send me right back to the source of my problem.

...and this is what I found trying to stop this process. Next, when I am forced to use Task Manager to close Firefox a second time to stop a badware site, then the 'Well this is embarrassing' dialog appears and I am finally safely away from the URL.

I am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site?
