Windows 8.1 filenames missing in all tile and icon veiw, including desktop.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro and had some sort of crash while I was at lunch. I came back, and all my icons where missing. I was unable to bring up Task Manager so I rebooted the computer by pressing the power button once for a 'graceful' shut down and restart
process. No errors came up, but then all my desktop icons only show their size instead of their name.
I brought up explorer and all folders were set this way. I was able to reset the folder view 'Details' to include the name so that all subfolders in Details view showed their name as well. I'm unable, however, to un-hide the file names in any other view
(including desktop) as there is no check box to uncheck 'Hide File Names'
Please help :/

I shall suggest you to go through a System Restore.Select any restore point when there was no problem.

BUG: Toggling interface on/off causes missing menu toolbar items and icons in Photoshop CS4!

When I toggle the interface on/off it causes missing menu toolbar items and icons until I exit and restart Photoshop CS4. I know this can happen if problem filters are installed. So I have the latest Alien Skin filters installed and have already followed their AutoLayer2.8li file updates to resolve Windows Photoshop CS4 issues. I also have Luxology imageSynth 2.0 filter installed. So since all my filters are updated to CS4 compatible versions, I shouldn't have this problem but yet it occurs. Any way to fix this?
I'm using WinXP SP2, 4 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 with newest 185.85 driver. I have 3D canvas rotation turned on.

What do you mean by this? Are you using standard methods (i.e. the buttons on the top-right of the screen) in Windows Explorer to minimize and then restore? or what?
Are you on XP 64-bit? or 32-bit?
Did you install driver version 185.85 before or after the problem started?
Do you just one GTX 260, or are you doing SLI at all?
Do you have more one monitor? If so, and you limit yourself to just one, do you still have the problem?
Also, just to make sure that this problem wasn't somehow caused by your plug-ins (because I have seen onOne plug-ins, at least, that install several DLL files and you can't disable DLLs by renaming with ~ like with plug-in files), or caused by a messed up install of PS, go ahead and repair the PS install. Are you logged into your Admin. Account or to a Guest Account that does not have access to the things your missing?

Lost all files and folders on the desktop and also in time machine

Default windows 8 OS entry missing (blank) in msconfig and system startup in VAIO-SVS15125CVB

I have a vaio SVS15125CVB model with i5 processsor and windows 8 single language preinstalled, which i have upgraded to 8 pro by purchasing a licence key. When I needed to boot into safe mode and entered msconfig, boot tab, no OS was listed and i could not click safeboot. all options are greyed out in this tab. likewise in control panel---> system and security---> system---> Advanced system settings, start and recovery, there was no default OS. it was simply blank. I tried opeing CMD (admin) and running "bcdedit /enum' it says " the boot configuration data store could not be opened. A device attached to the system is not functioning". Because of this my win8pro does not update to win 8.1 and says an error code: 0x8007001f. Is it some security setting which is preventing access to BCD for changing settings? Pl help on this how to make the default OS show at both the places so that i have startup options enabled including safeboot mode.and also can update to 8.1- Dr.Kishore

How did you upgrade the operating system? You mentioned that you purchased a license key that you purchased.
With regard to the error code 0X8007001f , you may try to run Troubleshooter. A device may not properly working or communicating with the Operating System.
It seems that other operating system is corrupted and you may want to format the unit back to its original factory settings. Your Vaio SVS15125CVB is not a U.S. model and we have limited information about your unit.

Media missing from all motion project icons

No matter what I do, starting a bnew project from scratch, duplicating and old one.. all my motion 5 project icons in finder say there is "Media Missing" which is not the case in any of them.. any ideas?

Motion 5 and FCP X are running on the new AV Framework now, which will take some time to work out. It's much more powerful than the old QT Framework. Another release or two and we'll have our Finder icons back. Not a big deal to me. Simple growing pains.

On starting my iMac up all screens and icons are large

Hello all, when starting up m imac all icons including the log on screen are large and when I click onto safari the whole screen appears big, yet when my wife clicks onto her screen sign and her icons appear they are all correct, please help, am a complete duffer at computer jargon so please bear with me :-)

I think i had better explain this a bit better, hopefully, when I'm using Apple TV i.e using my films on my imac and transferring them through to my TV the iMac screen goes into large mode for want of a better word and will not go into the correct size when ive finished using Apple TV, my troubles all started when I downloaded a film onto my imac and it's gone bottom up since then.

Why do all of my icons on my desktop get replaced with itunes icons?

Seriously, this is annoying. every time i install itunes, every single program/shortcut on my desktop and start menu is replaced with an itunes icon. please help me?

I did the following steps more than 3 times, always getting the same result:
Import a picture of my libary (import resolution set to 4MP)
duplicate the picture layer, and set the top one to invisible
extracting a part of the lower picture using the lasso tool and the refine edge tool
setting the extracted part as a new layer above the old one
(editing contrast or bluring the lower layer, I was not always getting as far, sometimes it already deleted the layers one step above)
The tool selected when the issue occurred was nearly always either the boxed selection or the lasso selection tool. I had 3-5 layers at the moment it occurred. One of them set to invisible the others to full opacity.
Also I noticed, that when selecting or extracting the part of a picture, it takes far longer to load and the application sometimes gets unresponsive during that time (after this, sometimes also the layers disappeared).

Suddenly all display and icons changed color

I turned on my MacBook Pro this morning and the display color turned to an egg-yolk yellow. How do I get it back to the way it originally was. I did not install anything new or change any defaults since I purchase it in May of this year. Did something break or what?? Everything is gray or black now. I need major help!!!

You can go into System Preferences, Display, Color, and see if any of the profiles bring it back. If not, I suspect the video card might have issues.

Are all jampacks and EXS samples included with Logic Pro 9 download ?

If they are not, can I import them from my Logic Studio 8 Boxed ?

Photoshop CS6 Menus and Icons too small on Windows 8.1 with 4K UHD display

So I have seen that I am not the first one to ask this question, but I have yet to find any true resolutions. I recently bought anew laptop, a Lenovo with a 4K UHD display which I already love for so many things. But, like a few other programs, the high resolution means the icons and menu text of PS CS6 are incredibly small, which may be alright on a TV, but on a laptop screen, it make it incredibly difficult to work. I have tried all sorts of different approaches in Windows, such as changing the OS font sizes and icon sizes, which do indeed change everything else on the computer, but PS is still the same tiny size. I have also increased the text size under the interface preferences to large, but with little real change. I understand why this is happening, but I am hoping that there is some sort of workaround, beyond just bumping down my screen resolution, which defeats the whole purpose of using UHD to edit photos. I have heard rumors of being able to code in some UI changes manually, but have found no concrete examples of how to actually do that.
I am sure that it would not take Adobe too much time and effort to create an update to help with scaling, but they are very set on pushing forward with Creative Clound, leaving the rest of us loyal customers to the dust until we pay up. If anyone has found any resolutions or workarounds, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Well other than that, I can't offer anything else as a forum volunteer. I have no idea if anything, what Adobe plans to do for CS6.
I do know that Photoshop CC 2014 has a 200% ui feature for Windows and you might like the Photography Plan which for $10 monthly includes Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom for $10/month.
You can trial CC 2014 to see if it does solve your situation

Is there a way to have all folders and files line up all the time by default?

I was wondering if there was a way to get all files and folders on the desktop and within locations like Downloads and Documents to automatically align to grid by default without user intervention.
If so, how can I do this?

Mario's post explains, how to arrange in colums in Finder windows.
You can use the same method to arrange the items on the Desktop:
Click on the empty Desktop to select it and to bring the Finder forward, press the key combination ⌘J.
Select "Snap to Grid" and set the spacing and icon size.
Select an option how you want to sort them, e.g. by kind.

Spinning Cursor of Death on all actions and apps

I now have the spinning cursor of death on all apps all finder actions in snow leopard
over last 3 months, OS periodically dumped bluetooth, resetting the Sys management controller fixed this, also zapped the pram twice in this time.   in the last 10 days had to do this every 5 days.
All actions are extremely slow, spinning ball cursor on all apps and icons bouncing in dock for long time, all apps slow in operation, the command F is also very slow, if backing up to usb drive doing any other tasks is almost impossible
1. booted from external HD (Backup'd with Chronosync) drive and ran disk utility to repair permissions 3 times.   Although it states the permissions are repaired on the 3rd time it was a repeat of the first. So it appears it is not repairing the permissions at all
2. reset system management controller
3. zapped pram
account - admin ( only used for installing apps). My user ac and a 2nd user account set up for family visitors. This ac hadn't been opened for 9 months and I found couldn't log in - froze twice forced restart - also to log out and login to any other ac took 3 min, normal 15 secs.   Deleted the family ac and login returned to normal on other ac's
4. booted from installer disk and ran disk repair, aok, and then permissions repair twice.
5. booted from installer disk 2 and ran apple hardware test aok
Been thru the apps folder and deleted any app no longer required and deleted prefs from the prefs folder as well as well an any other orphan files.
appeared to be working ok until boot next day same problems, re-booted in safe mode and tried using firefox and then opening excel, same problem, deleted firefox and all accompanying files. Rebooted and problem worse than ever. OS is unusable. Currently working from chronosync bootable HD from last bootable backup 12 days ago. ( files backed up daily)
I would like to avoid erasing the HD and clean instal if possible I have 400 GB of data - The latest updates are installed on everything
Any help as to what to do next would be appreciated

Sounds like malware, boot drive failing, bad sectors or OS x is messed up.

Apple changed some things under the hood, so it's going to show certain Disk Uitlity permisisons fixes over and over, that you can ignore.

Well copy that 400GB of User Data to another drive, as to fix your issue may require a erase and install to fix the bad sectors issue.
Run through this list of fixes, wipe and install is last and if that still gives you problems then it's a bad drive.

This will fix the bad sector issue if you just want to jump and do that.
Erase, formatting, OS X installs on Mac's
I also suspect because your using Chronosych, that it's not doing something right and/or OS X is getting confused with the two boot drives.
Once your fixed up, use Carbon Copy Cloner instead and make sure to name the clone something differnet.
Most commonly used backup methods
Read this to max your Snow Leopards performacne, you may juat want to do that then CCC clone it and be sweet and fast again.
