Windows 8.1 flex 14-2 boot menu direct to windows no usb or bios setting start up

Windows 8.1 > yesterday suddenly to make a selection from more boot menu ; ( Fn - F12) He takes no bios setup or a USB boot stick more but starts right after selection windows again? These have put a lenovo flex 2-14 with a self built-in SSD 250 840EVO disk where I am in the bios Boot UEFI mode to Lagacy support. Via de novo button I can still get into the bios and change the settings here ; Boot menu ; legacy support boat priority ; legacy first USB boot ; enabled All updates are automatically done so I suspect something has changed what is causing this problem?

Latest Bios installed.
Bios Priority; usb stick firts, SSD drive last.
Still direct from boot menu to windows

  • How To: Accessing the Boot Menu on a Windows 8 computer

This two-buttoned accessory works seamlessly with the laptop's
10-point multitouch display for surfing the Web and taking notes in tablet mode. A smaller "emergency stylus"
also sits on the bottom edge of the tablet. But the most eye-popping detail of this elegant machine is the battery,
which lasted an epic 14 hours and 37 minutes in laptop mode and 7 hours and 29 minutes when undocked.  - See more at:
The black Toshiba Portege Z20t combines a slick-looking tablet with a superslim keyboard deck for
a sleek 2-in-1 design. The 12.5-inch, 1080p display provided bright and crisp images in our tests. We also
loved the Portege's included Wacom-powered stylus.

Go to BIOS (power up the unit and press F2) then press F9 to get default settings.
Then press F10 so save the changes.
BIOS with default settings should not ask for boot device but should switch automatically to possible boot device like ODD or HDD

  • Setup Experience with Boot Menu Policy.

Windows Server 2012 has full boot menu in both osloader and resume applications providing the same secure boot features that are appreciated in Windows 8. It is the setup of the installllation program that deprives us of an opportunity to automatically setup
the boot menu policy during Windows Server 2012 installation, which error has to be corrected manually by interfering with installation. The errors: 1. The Server installer changes the [bootems] value of the [emssettings] from false to true; 2. The installer
(among other unpleasant things) imposes the [bootshutdowndisabled] variable with ridiculous value of "true" upon the computer boot manager; 3. the server resume and osloader applications are lacking by default the relevant [bootmenupolicy] variable
    values of [standard].
All of the above has to be manually corrected by the installing administrator on a first installation re-boot to provide for continuity of secure boot (specifically in multi-boot Windows 8 / Windows Server 2012 environments, so that the new installation
could continue nice and shiny and with the boot menu of standard.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
Would you please elaborate the issue you have occurred? Do you want to deploy multi-boot OS environments? What do you want to do in the boot menu?

  • How to repair Lion's Recovery HD partition? (Missing from boot menu but still there in Disk Utility)

Running a 2011 Macbook Air with Bootcamp (Win7).
The Recovery HD disappeared from boot menu after installing Windows 7.
The 650mb partition is still there (from Disk Utility "Show All Partitions") but cannot be accessed...
What should I do if I want to enable Filevault 2? It needs the Recovery HD partition right?
    Help!

The problem is Boot Camp:  It uses a hybrid GPT/MBR partitioning scheme - which ends up hiding the Recovery HD partition - which is an EFI physical partition (neither GPT nor MBR).
I would expect a new version of Boot Camp to release - like real soon - because of the Recovery HD partition invisibility issue.
In this article - it is suggested that rEFIt should be used to partition a hard drive that is going to support multiple boots including Mac OS X, LINUX, and Windows.
The key in the article to using Boot Camp with rEFIt is this:
"Run the Boot Camp Assistant and create the Windows XP driver cd. Then exit Boot Camp.  DO NOT PARTITION USING BOOT CAMP: you are only using Boot Camp for the drivers, not the partitioning."
All partitioning is done in terminal mode using the "diskutil" command.
rEFIt is used to update both the GPT and MBR records so that all partitions will be visible using its "gptsync" command.
Then - you replace the standard Mac boot menu with the rEFIt boot menu.  THAT will show the Mac OS X partition, Recovery HD (an EFI partition), and the Windows partition.
My caveat is that rEFIt - which is open sourced and available here:  http://refit.sourceforge.net
has not been recently updated and tested with respect to Mac OS X Lion.
    Hope this helps!

  • Satellite Pro M70-220 - how to start Advanced Boot Menu

What key must I press on my Satellite Pro M70-220 during startup of Win XP, in order to get into the "Advanced Start Menu" - that is, the menu that gives various boot options, such as Safe Mode, Last Good Startup Congiguration, Normal Windows Startup, etc. ?
On my old Satellite 5105-S702 laptop it was the F8 key, but pressing the F8 key on my Pro M70 does not appear to bring up the "Advanced Start Menu".
The Advanced Start Menu came up on its own a couple days ago, after an abnormal shutdown, so it would appear that it does exist on the Pro M70.
Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.
    AlanCB

    Hi
The Advanced Boot Menu can be reached pressing the F8 button.
Its a Windows based menu and its no matter what notebook it is.
It should work on all computers.
Maybe you cannot enable the Advanced Boot Menu because the Windows OS is muddled up.

This does not work. I have tried the other fn keys which also don't work. they work fine in Windows.

the UEFI and only accessible from windows PC settings.
Not so. By default, Windows 8 does not shut down completely. It hibernates the kernel (so that startup if faster).  When restoring from hibernation, It doesn't check for the F2 key.
You can shut down completely by depressing the Shift key when you click Shut down. Restart shuts down completely (so that system files can be changed).

  • Stuck at boot menu - Lenovo W530 Watch

I have a Lenovo W530 (i7 3720QM, 16GB, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M + Intel HD4000 – auto switching with Optimus, running Win8). I left it on overnight and when I opened it in the morning the display was flickering and going crazy. Turned it off and restarted and it said it was updating but it hung so I rebooted again and got a black screen with a blinking white dash at top left. Subsequent restarts just leave me at the boot menu where it recognises drives/usb but wont read from them.
I can access bios and I've tried booting from recovery usb, booting from Win8 DVD, booting from DVD with a different HDD and Win 7/8 in the DVD bay, disabling Optimus and flicking through the other graphics options, removing RAM etc. No luck.
Any ideas on what else I can try?
    Solved!

Just to update - got it sorted. According to Lenovo technicians it was a failed SSD. They replaced it under warranty and so far it all seems ok. Hats off to them for very fast turnaround and service,

  • [Forum FAQ]How to customize Windows 7 & Windows 8.1 dual boot menu

    Scenario 1:
When you install Windows 8.1 on Windows 7 based computer, the default boot option is Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 1:
If you want to use the old Windows 7 boot menu, follow these steps:
Start the computer and then go into
Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 1.
    Click
Change defaults or choose other options, and Options menu appears which is shown as Figure 2.
    Click
Choose a default operation system option.
    Click
Windows 7 Enterprise option to set Windows 7 as the default operating system in the Choose a default operating system menu which is shown as Figure 3.
Restart, and it will be changed to
Windows 7 boot options menu which is as shown as Figure
    Scenario 2:
If you have Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 dual-boot configuration, and the default boot menu is Windows 7 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 4.
If you want to get the GUI as Windows 8.1 style, follow these steps:
Boot into Windows 8.1 computer, open the
    command Prompt (Admin).
    Type the following command
    bcdboot  c:\Windows and press Enter.
Restart, and you'll see the Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is as shown Figure 1.
    Scenario 3:
When you have dual-boot system, one of the system disappear from the boot menu. We could follow these steps to get it back:
Boot the computer from the installation media (Here my example is Windows 7) that works fine system.
    Go into
System Recovery Options menu, which is as shown as Figure 6.
    Click
Command Prompt link to open the command prompt window
    Use the
diskpart and list volume commands to confirm the OS boot drive, the commands are shown as Figure 7.
Backup the bcd file, rename it.
Rebuild a new bcd file. It will scan all disk to confirm all Windows installation on your computer and ask if you want to add them to boot list.
    Type
Y to agree with adding to boot list. In next boot, you will get all boot options back in the boot menu.

Since you've selected as default OS as Windows 8.1 you can go to disk management console and format the drive as required.
You can remove the Win 7 entry from boot loader:
    To launch msconfig:
    Click Start
In the Search text box, type msconfig
Launch msconfig by selecting it from the search results above the search text box.
    After msconfig is launched:
    Go to the Boot tab
Slect the boot entry you want to delete.
Click the Delete button and then click OK.

  • Can't remove PC-DOS from Windows 7 Boot menu after using PC-Doctor for DOS Bootable CD

    I have a T60, Win 7 Pro
I had some issues and tried the PC-Doctor for Dos bootable CD to run some diagnostics. Since then, upon bootup, I have a PC-DOS option in my boot menu that just won't go away.
Using EasyBSD, the only os supposed to be in the bootloader menu is Win 7, yet, everytime I boot up, I get the boot menu.
I even tried using bcdedit to sstop displaying the boot menu but it still appears (for a split second).
Looking for some help in steps to remove the PC-DOS option from my windows 7 boot menu.

    Hi,
I have tried something like that with ZenWalk (Slackware- based distro) and it worked for me on my  Lenovo b305 with ATI 5450, no problems like that. Not sure about how Ubuntu will deal with these AIO systems. But I have a feeling that it is not your HD or booting, sounds like a video problem. ATI and Linux don't get on well.
Can you see the console y Alt +F1? perhaps you have to reconfigure Xorg manually.
My advice is to ask in Ubuntu forums they might have better ideas. ATI 5??? line is still "new"  for Linux and  the open drivers need time to work properly.
Also keep in mind IdeaCentre was not build for Linux...Issues like this might happen also post install.
    Hope this helps,
    Sergio

  • Windows 7 hangs from boot menu

    Hi,
my Windows 7 partition refuses to start from boot menu, system just hangs and does nothing. I've not made any changes to the disk layout, only thing I can think of is the upgrade to 10.9.4 which probably changed the recovery partition.
    History:
    - iMac Mavericks 10.9.3 with boot camp 5.1.2 and Windows 7, used to start into Windows by pressing Alt on start up, then reboot from Windows menu or from Windows boot camp application into OS X and back without problems
    - installed the 10.9.4 Build 13E28 upgrade some days ago
    - Change today: rebooted from the boot camp system tray app into OS X, worked without a problem
    - reboot from OS X into boot menu, select Windows 7 partition, system hangs
I've found this thread, describing a similar problem Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition I think, however since my Index output only lists 4 partitions I think my problem might be a bit different.

I guess something mixed up the MBR since I would have expected line 4 of the fdisk output to show something 'Windows' like instead of HPFS/QNX/AUX, but even if that is correct, the question is how can the boot problem be fixed?
The Windows partition is accessible from OS X, so copying the data is not a problem if everything else fails. As far as I remember, the boot camp version in windows is 3.3 (it's an older iMac model).
GDisk is available, command line not a problem, if you need any further info let me know, any help appreciated.
    thanks,

    Hi,
    > Does the Bootcamp partition show up in Finder and can you see files in it?
Yes, the partition shows up in Finder and I can see and copy files.
    > In Disk Utility, does the Bootcamp partition report as NTFS?
Yes it does, "Get Info" from Finder also reports it as a NTFS volume.
    > Do you have any third party NTFS drivers?
Yes I have, Paragon NTFS tools.
    > If you hold the ALT key can you boot into Windows?
No, system just hangs and needs to be rebooted via power-off.
    > If you came from 10.9.3 to 10.9.4, the Recovery HD should have existed under 10.9.3.
Yes it did, I did a clean install from USB media when Mavericks came out, the Recovery HD is also visible - and has been - in the boot menu.
    > The one strange part is that your volume says "Windows 7". Were any diskutil commands run to change volume names?
No, just a left click on the Volume Name in Finder and then change Bootcamp to Windows 7.

  • TPT2 will not load Windows 8, stuck on boot menu

    Hello all,
It's my first post on this forum, and I'm having issues with a Thinkpad Tablet 2.  I can power on the device but then it goes to the boot menu, which is empty.  From here I don't know what else to do, as I cannot find any way to access Windows 8.  I took it to a shop here in Toronto and they said that the boot menu being empty means that it isn't detecting any of the hardware that is connected to it and that it is most likely a hardware issue.  They told me to go to Lenovo for assistance, but I wanted to check here first to see if you folks have got any advice for me.  I've attached photographs of the empty boot menu anfd main screen of the Thinkpad setup, not sure if there is any relevant information in there.  What should be my next step?  Thanks in advance.

Hi there !!! I have exactly the same problem with my Thinkpad Tablet 2 (64MB). The only difference is that in my BIOS option UEFI safe boot is OFF. I tried to use recovery tool, Lenovo Diagnostic tool and even WindowsPE, but tablet simply cannot see any USB or any other devices. in startup/boot section is ONLY ONE POSITION: ! 1. Windows Boot Manager and I cannot boot from USB... I will be very grateful for any kind of suggestion (well, perhaps except suggestion to throw it out through a window). With kind regards Marco Polo

  • Thinkpad T520 - 4239CTO cold vs warm boot menu (Windows 7 Pro)

I have a curious situation. I replaced the hard disk in the above named Thinkpad with and Intel 530 SSD (250 MB). The OS is a fully patched Windows 7 Pro. Just for the record, to ensure full details are revealed: The new disk was, as recommended on the Lenovo site, activated as a GPT disk, the original was MBR. The BIOS option is Legacy boot (MBR) or UEFI (no MBR) or both. If I selected the UEFI only, I could not boot to or install the OS from the recovery disks. If I selected both, with legacy first or UEFI first, the recovery DVD's would boot and the inbstall would proceed without issue. This si where the trouble starts: Upon completion of the install, a number of anomalies appear. Regardless of the legacy/UEFI setting on the BIOS, if I warm boot, the options menu appears (tabbed with boot options and application options). I have no way out of this as another warm boot just returns me to that menu. If I cold boot, the proper boot sequence occurs and Windows loads properly, but only if the BIOS is set to BOTH for Legacy/UEFI. If it is set to either Legacy only or UEFI only on a cold boot, I get the option menu with the boot/applications tabs but the applications tab now includes the BIOS menu. If I cold boot with both Legacy and UEFI enabled, it boots to Windows and disk manager reveals that the disk is GPT but it appears to have an MBR. My conclusion is that the BIOS is confused because the disk is in some sort of amorphous MBR AND GPT state or something. I am concerned about aggressively pursuing one path or another (forcing a GPT disk by removing the MBR, for example) and getting into more trouble. I wonder if the Lenovo factory recovery disks are incapable of installing on a GPT disk and if that is the issue. Any comments or help is appreciated. Thank you

  • Can't access windows or dv6t-3000 recovery partition after unix boot menu removal.

I have a dv6t-3000 laptop running Win 7 Home premium 64 bit; my son had put a unix partition on it. Since I tried to bypass the unix boot menu using MBR (the idea of my brother, the IT professional) the laptop just gives a unix error message at startup (error: no such partition. grub rescue> _) If I hit escape while starting up I get the startup menu including F11 System Recovery but Fn+F11 (it's a laptop) does nothing and hitting the F11 key itself just sends me back to the Unix error message.
Shamefully I never made a set of recovery discs; how can I boot into Recovery? Would the Recovery USB flash disk utility work, or screw things up further? Any help would be appreciated!

Sadly, I must recommend that you purchase a recovery disc set.
Playing around with Linux ( probably ReiserFS) and MBR does bad things to the Windows boot sector. One option is to reinstall GRUB. The second option is If your brother can find a Windows 7 64-bit repair disc for you, then you may be able to repair the boot sector.  That should make the original Windows 7 installation useable again. Otherwise you will need the recovery disk set to restore all functionality, including the recovery partition and the F11 recovery manager access.
    Sorry to bear bad news.

  • X61 Windows setup [ems aktiviert] - how to deactivate in boot menu?

I have a x61 thinkpad with Vista. Recently I installed Win 7 via a bootable USB stick. For this I had to set the boot menu so that the computer starts from the USB stick. After installing Win 7 I reset the Boot order to default.
Now everytime I start my computer a boot selection appears:
    1. Win 7 Professional
    2. Windows Setup (EMS aktiviert)
This is very annoying as I dont want to enter the windows setup. How can I deactivate this selection so that the computer directly starts Win 7 without entering the boot menu?
    Thanks for any help!

Thanx for the rapid response. I had tried that prior to posting and it didn't help. I went to System preferences>Desktop & Screen saver and there is was sitting in Desktop, the image of Windows boot manager screen. No clue as to how it got there ut changing the desktop image cleared it from my screen.
Thanks again for trying to help.
