Windows 8.1 fresh profile every logon

Hello,
How do I create a fresh profile everytime I  logon to a Windows 8.1 system. I have a Shared system that has One Local Account that is used for OutSide users when they visit. I need the Profile to be Clean everytime it is rebooted so I know
previous users did not leave anything on Desktop.
Was able to create a GPO for our Windows 7 systems but thinking there is something different in Windows 8.
Michael

Hi,
According to your description, I think what you want is a Mandatory User Profile,it is a special type that administrators can use to specify settings for users. With mandatory user profiles, a user can modify his or her desktop, but the changes are not saved
when the user logs off. The next time the user logs on, the mandatory user profile created by the administrator is reloaded.
The following article cna help you better understand the user profile (instruction for Windows 7 is similiar to Windows 8.1)

  • Fresh profile sometimes after login

    Hi,
    I am running ZCM 10.3.1 on SLES11 64bit with 6GB RAM.
We have the following issue on Windows 7 Workstations.
    Policy
    DLU
Volatile User (but should only be removed after 15 days).
But sometimes if a user logs in within that timeframe he/she does get a fresh profile.
Note we are not using roaming profiles.
I have even disabled Volatile user, but gives the same behavior.
Usually it is working fine, but sometimes this happens, ZCM is still in a pilot, but this is the only issue preventing us from implementing it company wide.
I have a zmd-messages.log on debug mode from when it occurs and I found this in the log from when it happened:
    [DEBUG] [01/17/2011 15:50:14.029] [1752] [ZenworksWindowsService] [4] [pctestuser] [ZMD] [] [User daemon call Novell.Zenworks.Zmd.EnvironmentVariableConfigUserM odule.GetEnvironmentVariable(UserProfile) to session 889446 failed after 0.005 seconds] [] []
    Any insight/suggestions?

I suspect it is in the IR5 patch in December.
The specific issue was that UserProfile was not being released on logout
due to a leak that could cause locks to not be released.
This same issue could be caused by alot of different software, including
    Windows Active Desktop.
The Client Patch would not fix other software from leaking a handle.
And it's possible you have other different root issues.
But if you are seeing additional profiles being created.
I would check to make sure Client32 has the latest patch and
ActiveDesktop is disabled as they are two known causes.

  • New user profile every 20 days - how to disable?

    Hello,
we're using zenworks 7 to manage windows xp sp3 clients. Actually every 20 days every client gets a new one (username.001) is written locally :( - i don't know why. There must be a rule with 20 days in it which is the reason for this behaviour.
Im not familiar with zenworks - but i searched the entire menues from zenworks for a value of 20 days and i found a menue called "Properties of Workstation Pack: Windows XP: Zenworks Desktop Management Agent" with an option "policy definition for dynamic local users" - there is a mark enabled for "enable cache for temporary users" with an value of 20 days - could that be the bad value who is responsible for the new profiles every 20 days? I've set the value to 200 and applied, but nothing changes and next day also 4 users told me that they become a new profile - what can i do.

  • Windows Explorer was crashing/restarting every few seconds and after trying several different methods of fixes, the only one that worked was removing Firefox, is there something I've missed that I can get Firefox back?

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was originally running Windows Vista 32-bit, but was upgraded by me to Windows 7 32-bit. On Windows Vista, all I would run was Firefox. I loved it!!! On Windows 7, I've noticed that Firefox kept hanging whenever I would try to download a file...from anywhere. I got so frustrated I went to try several different browsers. They all worked extremely quickly, whereas Firefox was working so slow, I could click on a link to a page, go get some lunch, come back and it still be trying to load the page. This was drastically unusual for Firefox. I used the other browsers and everything was fine for a week and then Windows Explorer started going down every few seconds. I went to the windows 7 forums and started looking. There were several suggestions on how to fix the problem, none of which worked for my compy. I tried restarting the compy in safe mode. That didn't help. I turned off every startup program except for the essentials and that DID work in keeping Windows Explorer from restarting. I then dove into the tedious task of trying to discern which 3rd party program was the offender. I removed everything from my compy that had been downloaded in the last ten days (well before the windows explorer issue, but not before the firefox issue). That didn't work either. I tried replacing an explorer file, which didn't work either. There were several other things I tried, as well, but nothing worked. Then, I saw a post that Firefox had caused the problem for one person. I went in and did as was suggested and completely removed Firefox and all associated files. Unfortunately, this worked. I haven't had any more trouble with windows explorer restarting. My big problem is, however, I can't run Firefox!!! And I LOVE Firefox!!! It's spoiled me! I hate Internet explorer, which is what I'm forced to run now. I've tried Safari and Google Chrome and don't like either one of those, either. I want my Firefox back! But if it's not working 100% it's less frustrating to be forced to live with the Internet Explorer. I'm going insane, here! Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried clearing out browser history, changing download files and a couple of other things and nothing worked with the Firefox to get it going better before I started having the Windows Explorer difficulty and had to completely erase the Firefox program. If I've missed any info, please don't hesitate to ask!! I'm happy to supply whatever I know about the issue!!

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

When data were transferred from my vista computer to the new windows 7 computer, the profile on firefox was not transferred to the new computer. Because the profile wasn't transferred, profile manager or just typing in the default location don't give a result. All the info on the mozilla web site that I've looked at dealing with profiles don't seem to work. I can probably retrieve and make a copy of the profile from the old computer, but how do I find out where to put it on the new one??

hello there,  there is a rare window that keeps popping up every time i start Logic.  It's a "tempo" window with strange layout about midi effects and so,.... is it normal?  How can i improve this?  Thanks.

Hmm, that's some sort of MIDI Arpeggiator setup in your environment. Strange that you don't know it, this has to be custom-installed, it is not part of the standard setup.
You can do two things about it:
1.unlock your current screenset (shift-L), then close the (Bass Driver) window, then relock the screenset (shift-L). Next time you open up this project you won't see the Bass Driver, but it is still in the project.
    2. You can remove the whole page: open the Environment (cmd-8), then go to the dropdown menu arrow top left of the Environment window and select the Bass Driver layer. If it is selected, dropdown again and choose Delete. Now Save your project under a different name (Save As...), so that you still keep the Bass Driver setup in the original project. If you don't need to keep it, you can simply Save.

  • Updating Pre-Bindings at every logon?!?!

I just got my MBP C2D a couple weeks ago and have noticed that every time I log in either from a cold boot or just the logon screen there seems to be quite a bit of disc activity even after the desktop is fully loaded. At first I thought there were some background services loading or hidden apps running. Finally, I checked activity monitor and found that there was a process called UpdatePreBindings that was running and taking about 8% of CPU. When this process finally quit after about a minute and a half the disc activity also stopped. Makes perfect sense, right? My question is, "Why are the pre-bindings being updated at every logon. I thought this was something that only needs to be done occasionally or to troubleshoot problems. This isn't something that happens on my PowerBook G4. Thanks.

  • Firefox crashes every night without a crash report (Since last 3-6 months) Currently using version 23.0.1, Fresh Install, Fresh Profile, No Addons

Every night Firefox crashes without any crash report.
All I get is the Windows dialog that says "Firefox has stopped working" "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program." "Close the program". (If I can upload the screenshot I will).
The websites I was on are intranet only sites, require NO Flash or Java. Two tabs only. The same sites were not crashing in much older versions, appx 6+ months ago.
The only criteria for crashes seems to be the uptime of Firefox. The longer I leave it, the greater the chances of this crash. I have never seen it crash in front of my eyes, always (90%) would have crashed when I unlock the PC in the morning. I leave it running and locked the whole night.
Just a couple of days ago I decided to do a complete clean install of Firefox, i.e.:
Uninstall, Delete Program Files, Delete Profile folder. Reinstall, import bookmarks. That's it.
    Hardware Acceleration has been disabled.
    Provide Telemetry has been enabled.
Crash Reporter is enabled, but doesn't kick in. about:crashes is empty. (Even before re-install there were no recent crashes recorded there).

  • Firefox 35.0 update loses Windows desktop and user profile

Recently updated Adobe Reader and Flash player and Firefox to 35.0 on Windows 8.1 Dell laptop. This resulted in the administrator user profile failing. Windows Event Log has:
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.
Windows was unable to load the registry. This problem is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights.
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
DETAIL - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
    for C:\Users\Andy\ntuser.dat
Non-administrator user is ok. Reboots did not help. I did system restore and all was well. Then I only updated Firefox to 35.0 and got same problem. Restoring again fixed the issue.
Windows updates were last installed 22-Dec-14 and there are currently 9 updates waiting to be installed. Adobe is also notifying tht updates are available for Reader & Flash

This is appears to be a Windows problem.
Yes Firefox may not be working but it would appear to be because of a Windows problem.
    * See ''You receive a "The User Profile Service failed the logon” error message '' http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215
I do not think installing or upgrading Firefox could be expected to produce such an error, but if it did I would have expected this forum, and the input feedback to have had a sudden spike in complaints.
I am not noticing anything on this forum. The input feedback no longer has the useful pictorial graphics, but interactive results are here if you wish to look through them

  • Windows 7 takes 8 minutes to logon.

    Hello all,
Im having some trouble with a clients computer. After getting to the screen with the windows logon in windows 7 it takes 7-8 minutes before the loading wheel dissappears and the desktop pops up. This is a clean install of windows 7 enterprise. All the latest
updates have been preformed and I had no issues with the computer. Also after the computer was fully functioning they added a network share folder to the desktop so a fellow employee could access files on the desktop. How can i go about finding out why this
is happening. Once the pc logs into windows everthing works fast and fine. Could another profile be slowing down the computer if it was deleted and the files were left behind. Before the network share the computer logged in quickly. Please help me figure
this out, it doesnt make the machine unusable but it sure is frustrating.

    4Gb Ram

If you need the exact dell model for pc I can get it later today.

    1. I do not think that the proposed answer is correct. If the logon take long time, then you cannot run any program. Either the current user profile is very large, or you wait for something else.
    2. You have not reveal what security model do you have. If remore logon is a case (like in AD), then there is authentication problem or indirectly DNS is not correctly configured correctly.
    3. Rarely there is a problem with hw component (network card etc.)
    4. I would check the network communication with Wireshark.
    5. By disabling some parts/applications you may find the problem like AV is checking something before allowing to finish logon process.
    6. Contact vendor's support. I mean both, mb vendor and AV.
    7. Double check Event logs and Device Manager.
