Windows 8.1/Internet Explorer

Hi-How do I tell if Internet Explorer (11) on Windows 8.1 (64-bit) opens in 64-bit or 32-bit natively. I thought I read some where that it opens in 64-bit unless you specify 32-bit.
Thanks

Hi,
In addition, on 64-bit Windows, the default IE is running in 64bit.
If you want to use IE 32 by default, we can manually change the default IE as 32-bit:
a. Go to Default Programs.
b. Click on Associate a file type or protocol always open in a specific program.
c. Browse to all the extensions where internet explorer is set as default and then click on change.
d. Now Click on browse and then go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe and select it.
e. Click Ok and then Close.
f. Click Save.
Or editing the following registry keys to point to the x86 location of IE:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\IE.HTTP\shell\open\command HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\IE.HTTPS\shell\open\command
As well as creating a script to swap out the Internet Explorer.lnk shortcut with one pointing to the X86 version in all existing user profiles.
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Internet Explorer.lnk

  • Authentication issues on Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 (Crystal 2008)

    Hi,
We are in the process of migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 (with Internet Explorer 8).
I have noticed that a web application which depends on Crystal 2008 is behaving differently in the new environment. For example, when I try to load a report I get this error:
Access to report file denied. Another program may be using it.
I know that this error can be caused by a permissions problem on the Windows temp folder, and I know there are various ways of pinpointing the exact permissions problem and various ways of resolving if that's the case. The fix that worked for us in Windows XP does not seem to work in Windows 7. My gut feeling is that IE is passing credential in some way differently from how it did before.
Since many aspects of security are so different in Windows 7 compared with XP, I was hoping to find some general guidelines from SAP/Crystal re: how to deploy or configure the client/server in this environment.
Are there any general guidelines available?
Thank you for any help... shannon

    Hi Shannon,
Not really, CR assumes it can access all of it's dependencies so it is a permission issue. Other than the usual config issues with IIS, full access to the      emp folder, full permissions on the Viewer folder, setting the framework in App pool correctly, etc.
Do you have Service Pack 3 installed for Cr 2008 and the latest Fix Pack 3.5?

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export

  • Problem with WIndows 7 and Internet Explorer 11

I have Windows 7 Pro and just completed installing Service Pack 1.  I checked the the System information and it indicates that the Service Pack did in fact install.  I am now trying to install the latest version of Windows Explorer 11 and when
I try, I get a message that states "Operating System is not Supported" "you need Windows 7 SP1 or Server 2008 R2 SP1 to install Internet Explorer 11.
I have worked on this problem for about six hours.  Reinstalled Service Pack 1 and anything else I can think of.  I can't get Internet Explorer 11 to install.  I use GMail and it is advising me that I need to upgrade to the lates version
    Internet Explorer.
Can anyone give me some advice?

Which version of Internet Explorer are you currently running? And how are you trying to install IE 11?
Although there are standalone installers for IE, it's usually best if you can install it through Windows Update. From memory I think IE 11 can only be installed on top of IE 9 or 10.
Please can you open Windows Update, and click Check for updates. Once this has finished checking, look in both Important and Optional updates, and see if an updated version of IE appears.

  • Problem Viewing Flash Movies in Windows 8.1 Internet Explorer 11

I am running a fully patched/updated copy of Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer version 11 (on the desktop)
If I try and run the test movie at
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8html I get the following message:
Either Flash Player is disabled or ActiveX Filter is ON.
Please follow trouble shooting steps to play Flash content.
I have checked and double-checked that...
    Flash Player is enabled
    ActiveX Filtering is turned off
Internet Explorer is running the latest version of Flash Player
The only way I can get this to run at all is to enable'Compatibility Mode' for the web site.  Is it the case that Compatibility Mode has to be enabled to view any web site containing Flash content?
Any information would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Do you mean the issue is only occurred on the website you provided? How about other websites?
I can run the test movie with no issue in my test machine, I suspect this issue is caused by browser incompatibility.
As I know, if the issue is caused by a compatibility problem between Internet Explorer and the site you're on. The issue can be fixed by adding the site to your Compatibility View list.
I also would like to suggest you reset Internet Explorer Settings for a test. Also make sure you're not using InPrivate Browsing.
    Hope it helps.

  • Flash Player not working in Windows 8.1 (Internet Explorer 11)

    Hi,
I cannot get Flash Player to work in IE 11 on Windows 8.1 (on a Surface Pro). This has been going on for a while, and I was hoping that  I've tried the usual suggestions from this community:
Ensure it's not disabled: the control is enabled.
    ActiveX filtering is OFF
Removed IE as a feature and reinstalled it
I tried reinstalling the latest MSU with Flash Player (13 now) from Microsoft's site (KB 2942844, 64-bit) and that installation fails. Attempting to install the Debug version from Adobe (also an MSU) fails as well.
Before I did the above tests, I did notice that my ActiveX control was not from Microsoft or Adobe, it was from an unknown vendor. On another system, it reads it's from Microsoft Windows Third Party Application Component.
Is there a way to clear this out and then hopefully successfully install the MSU?
Please don't suggest to run Firefox or Chrome. I know I can do that, I am looking for a solution to run Flash in IE.
    SA.

There are two registry keys and the KB patch that MUST BE manually removed before you can manually replace Flash Player ActiveX in Windows 8 or 8.1. I did it one time on a test machine and it was a MAJOR P.I.T.A.
Before I did the above tests, I did notice that my ActiveX control was not from Microsoft or Adobe, it was from an unknown vendor. On another system, it reads it's from Microsoft Windows Third Party Application Component.
ActiveX is a software framework created by Microsoft that adapts its earlier Component Object Model (COM) and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) technologies for content downloaded from a network, particularly in the context of the World Wide Web. It was introduced 1996 (it's old enough to vote now - Yay!!!) and is commonly used in its Windows operating system. In principle it is not dependent on Microsoft Windows, but in practice, most ActiveX controls require either Microsoft Windows or a Windows emulator. Most also require the client to be running on Intel x86 hardware, because they contain compiled code. Adobe doesn't own or develop ActiveX. They write conformed code with it for the IE plug-in.
Is there a way to clear this out and then hopefully successfully install the MSU?
No. The ActiveX Flash Player plug-infor Win 8 or 8.1 can ONLY be modified, updated or repaired via Windows Update. You may need to repair IE first: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378  That'll fix the plug-in (in most cases) in Windows 8 & 8.1
Please don't suggest to run Firefox or Chrome. I know I can do that, I am looking for a solution to run Flash in IE.
Here's something to consider: Internet Explorer 11’s Many User-Agent Strings
Microsoft is already trying to convince websites you visit THAT YOU ARE USING SOMETHING ELSE.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser.
User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video.
Thanks to the "geniuses" in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome, Opera, Safari).
Trouble is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. Or the content just doesn't play.
YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Not everyone has converted to HTML5 yet, though.
Facebook and other game sites can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of content in the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE...
Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend using another browser, even if you don't like the idea. Since most of the websites you visit with IE11 already see it as Firefox or Chrome, you might as well actually be using one or the other.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • RDS is not connecting since Windows 8.1 (Internet Explorer 11)

We are using Server 2012 R2 for RDS and we are having problems with the clients that got upgraded to Windows 8.1 (IE), RDS stopped connecting to the Remote Applications.  Based on solutions that we have found online, we have used the
compatibility mode and the Development emulation for IE9 or IE10.

This appears to be a bug with Windows 8.1, the workaround is specified on this thread:

    Fabio's solution worked for us:
Open regedit, set to 0 this key:

The problem is the option "Do not ask again unless changes to policy occur" in the "LogOn Message".

  • Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10

I upgraded both of my computers to Windows 8 with also upgraded my Internet Explorer to version 10.  I have noticed something odd when I try to Reply to a question that was posted in the forum.  When I log on, the Reply link is there but when I click it nothing happens.  The only solution that I have discovered is to use Google Chrome when I want to reply to a post.  I found out that I can start a discussion with IE 10, but I can't reply.  Has anyone else noticed this or is it a setting on both of my computers that is wrong?

you should use Chrome instead of IE10 anyways, as Google can roll out a security update as soon as they see fit, rather than on Patch Tuesday, or whenever Microsoft does it. they also package Flash with it, so you don't even need to install it (the fewer apps that access Flash the better, as it's a security risk in and of itself). and they'll block Java (allowing you to run it at your request) if you're running an old, vulnerable version.
not to mention Chrome is faster than IE10.

  • Extra blank window remaining with Internet Explorer

I have a Flex Application and am using FlashHelp for
context-sensitive help. I am launching FlashHelp with the following
    call:
    ExternalInterface.call('RH_ShowHelp(0,"/ic-help/index.htm",HH_HELP_CONTEXT,66)');
With Firefox, we don't have any problems. With Internet
Explorer 6 and 7, there is an extra blank window that hides in the
Windows Taskbar and never closes. The URL for the unwanted window
    is, "localhost/ic-help/whcsh_home.htm"
Am I doing something wrong here, or could the problem be in
the way the help content author is generating the FlashHelp zip
file? Is anyone else seeing this problem? Thanks...

Or you deploy the tweaked whcsh_home.htm and then, after
generating each time, delete whcsh_home.htm so when you deploy,
your tweaked file is not overwritten. But you're right about the
"someone having to remember" part if this is your approach.
We use Subversion for source control, so what I do (to get
around a couple of problems) is generate to one folder, then
publish to a second (both local). That second folder is the one
under version control. The key here is that as far as RH is
concerned, whcsh_home.htm didn't change, so it's not published to
the second folder. Therefore, my tweaked version stays out in the
repository and never gets overwritten. Don't know if this applies
to your situation at all, though.
