Windows 8.1 keeps forgetting my network credentials

I frequently need to access files on my (Qnap TS-109II, Samba-based) NAS so I connect to
\\server\share using the "Remember my credentials" checkbox.
Alas, I often get errors (e.g. with File History, or just accessing a share from Windows Explorer's "Recent places") because the credentials are not valid: I need to re-enter my password and check "Remember my credentials" again.
And again...
Any clue?

You've probably already thought of this... Have you logged-off or rebooted gracefully after making the connection, so settings are saved. I ask because some folks just run Windows until it crashes or locks up, never giving the system a chance to save registry
data.

  • Apple TV Keeps "Forgetting" My Network

OK - love ATV but c'mon... between the incredibly slow streaming times & the amount of time I wait for streaming to "catch up", you'd think I would be frustrated. Perhaps. But what is really bugging me is that on several occasions, I have turned on the ATV to find that it has "forgotten" my network. I have to reprogram it with my WiFi network password, etc... Ugh !! Help !

I had the exact same issue you did for a long time. Very annoying.
My problem ended up being the following: The issue stems from the router having a DHCP lease time of 24 hours. So, once I logged in on the Apple TV, 24 hours later, the lease expired, and the Apple TV could not log in anymore. I set the lease time to be 300 days. I haven't had that problem since, but I'll probably have it on day 301.
All other networking devices worked fine before, so there is something wrong with how the Apple TV does this.
It also might work if you set up a static IP address to the Apple TV, so it doesn't have to 'forget' it's lease over and over again.

  • Windows 8.1 keeps forgetting my domain profile

I just did a fresh install of Windows 8, did updates, then upgraded to 8.1 via store.  I created the default local account then after 8.1 was updated I connected to my domain.  I can log into my admin domain account fine but Windows can't remember
my profile.  Any apps I set up, shortcuts on the desktop, or favorites added to IE, when I restart its all erased and back to square one.  I've tested it a few times and each time Windows has to set up my profile like its my first time ever logging
in.  How do I prevent this from happening?

    Hi,
How about your local account? Is it also had this problem? If this problem just happened on Domain Account, it is probably your account file damaged during join into domain.
Firstly, please check Event Viewer if it identify this events.
Secondly, Open Registry and access to the volume below:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Check and delete the problem account list. After that, exit your account from domain and join it again for test.

  • Are Windows Network Credentials Saved Somewhere?

I'm trying to connect to a Windows server from a Mac OS X 10.4 machine, but I keep getting locked out on the Windows network side. I've logged into this (and several other Windows machines) many times in the past, but I suspect my old Windows network credentials are saved somewhere on this Mac.
I have to have the IT guys here at work unlock me constantly, every time I try to connect to this one server. Since our Windows server credentials need to be changed every 90 days, I'm thinking the Mac OS has stored a previous set of credentials, and when I try to connect to this server again, it asks me for my User/PW and it doesn't match up with what I have stored.
    Make sense?
How can I delete any previous Windows network credentials, if this is indeed the problem? I just deleted System Configuration preferences in Library/Preferences, but I'm still not able to connect to this server.
I have nothing saved in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items
    Any help?
    Thanks!

Check these two Uitilities out, thogh PWs may get stored elsewhere too, ByHosts folder is a common one.
    Keychain Access
    Most Passwords are stored here.

No. This issue is dicussed here frequently. The only option is to be patient and try often. Search this forum for other posts about this issue.

  • Apple TV keeps forgetting Network

My AppleTV keeps forgetting network and disconnects itself from the network & internet regularly. I have to unplug the power and plug it back again than it connects but after couple of days it disconnects itself again. This happens usually if I watch a movie from the AppleTV. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue on two 40GB ATVs, one purchased after 2.0 software came out and one was off the first factory run. Both are on N(b/g) networks with WPA2. Both networks are apple airport extremes, not the dual band model but the one just before.
My Remote.app on iPhone isn't seeing the ATVs when iTunes stops seeing them, so I think the issue is strictly with ATV 3.0.
    SUMMARY, from my experience:
    -Not hardware related
    -Not iTunes related
-One ATV will hold it's IP address obtained through DHCP.
-The other says it's connected to the wifi network but has no IP address, despite renewing the DHCP lease.
-Visibility in itunes "Devices" seems to coincide with Remote.app being able to see ATV.

  • Can someone tell me why, since upgrading to Yosemite, I keep getting a message window saying "Another device on the network  is using your computer's IP address?"

Can someone tell me why, since upgrading to Yosemite, I keep getting a message window saying "Another device on the network  is using your computer's IP address?"

That may be what is a fairly common problem of 2 devices mistakenly assigned the same address. Try shutting off all of the devices connected to your router, reboot the router and then the devices connected to it.

  • TS1398 My new iPad keeps forgetting my Internet password every time it is switched off or goes on flight mode

My new iPad keeps forgetting my Internet password every time it is switched off or goes on flight mode. Have tried resetting the network setting as it suggest on the support page. The Internet  works fine with my windows PC and my son's iPad 2. Any advice?

Have you tried powering off and then back on your router?
Does it only happen with your router? If so that would tend to indicate a router problem.

  • Remote app keeps forgeting Apple TV

Good afternoon! Apple's Remote app 4.2.1 on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.3 keeps forgetting my AppleTV 2 running Apple TV Software 7.0.3. When I open the app, AppleTV isn't an option (other iTunes libraries on my network do appear though). I can get my Apple TV to re-appear temporarily by using the remote that came with the AppleTV to navigate to Settings > Computers > Turn Off Home Sharing and then turning home sharing back on Shortly thereafter, however, the Remote app can no longer see the Apple TV.
Any suggestions for how I can get Remote to permanently remember the Apple TV? Thanks!

  • Safari: Pop-up windows for "Mac Keeper"; Random search results and ads everywhere!

Please help! A very annoying pop up window called "Mac Keeper" keeps popping up.
Also, when i search something in google; or any search engine; I will get random results.

There are two possibilities: either the router has been hacked to direct DNS queries to a malicious server, or it's using the right DNS servers, but those servers have been hacked. The first possibility is more likely.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to reset the router to the default state. Usually that involves inserting the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool into a pinhole somewhere in the back of the device, and pressing a switch inside for about 15 seconds. The pinhole may be marked "RESET."
Repeat the initial setup process. Make sure the router does not allow remote setup from the Internet (WAN port), if it has that feature—most do. The DNS servers should be set automatically by your ISP. If you still have trouble with those servers selected, contact your ISP.
Another option, if your ISP fails to secure its servers promptly, is to use an alternative DNS service such as Google DNS or OpenDNS. I don't recommend either one. Don't believe the marketing hype about OpenDNS, in particular. There are no advantages to using it if your ISP is delivering the service you pay for.
If you have a wireless network, it must be secured with WPA 2 encryption. The passwords for the network and the router must each be a string of at least 10 random upper- and lower-case letters and digits, and they should be different. Any password that you can remember is weak.

  • Windows 8.1 safe mode with networking issue

    Hello,
I have a customer who generally logs into windows using a PIN. They are running windows 8.1 and their only account on the system is a microsoft account set up with a gmail address.
I needed to reboot into safe mode with networking to perform some malware removal for them, and upon doing so I realized I wouldn't be able to log in without the password to that microsoft account, as you can't log into safe mode with the 4 digit PIN. I
contacted them, and they were unable to provide me the microsoft account password.
No problem, I will just reset their password at live.com and log in with the new password. We jump through all the hoops to get the password reset, and of course now all we have to do is connect the laptop to the network so it can learn that the password
has changed and we can log in.
First, I try plugging the integrated ethernet adapter into my network. The switch port lights up, so CSMA/CD is fine with the physical connection, and it even blinks a bit like it's doing things. Unfortunately the network icon in the lower left corner of
the login screen stays disconnected. Okay, I'll try the wifi.
I click the icon, the wifi is off, I turn the wifi on and my wireless network pops up. I click the wireless network and hit connect, and it "checks network requirements" for a while like normal, says it's taking longer than normal, and then says
"We can't connect to the Internet right now. Please try again." with a close button.
Upon hitting the close button it brings me back to the network list, but curiously it says under my network name that it's now connected, and the connect button has become a disconnect button. The network icon in the lower left of the login screen is still
showing a red circle with a white X in it, and the password still isn't working.
The first couple of times I did this it asked me for my WPA key, which I entered. The last time I tried it didn't ask me for my key. Thinking I should probably tell it to forget the network so I can type it again, I tried right disconnecting from the network,
right clicking on it and going to forget this network, but right clicking does nothing in the network UI on the login screen.
I then grabbed a USB ethernet adapter and plugged it into my switch, which lit up the same as when I used the onboard one, but the laptop is still acting as though it isn't connected. It's also worth noting that no ethernet connections appear at the top
of the network UI on the login screen as they would if we were logged into windows.
I don't have a password reset disk. I can't format this system. I've successfully reset the password online, but networking isn't working. What should I do?

I solved my problems by using the sethc trick to enable the local administrator account. I then rebooted out of safe mode, logged into the administrator account, connected to the internet, and then switched users using fast user switching to the microsoft
account, which I was then able to log in to using the updated password.

  • IPod keeps forgetting it's configuration

My iPod 15GB with dock connector (no click wheel) keeps forgetting it's configuration if not used for a few days.
The battery is fully charged; often the iPod is in the dock with power continuously connected.
When switching on, the iPod displays the Apple logo for about half a minute. Afterwards it comes back with the default configuration (English language, no backlight, by far too low contrast -- almost unreadable, etc.). At least the music library is kept
I'm using iTunes 6; the iPod is updated to 2.3
    PC   Windows XP   iPod

I hope you get a reply soon this is driving me crazy. I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and that seemed to fix it for a couple of days, but it's back on bad behavior now. Really, really aggravating.

  • Forget This Network stopped all access to available network configurations.  How can I enter IP Address, Subnet Mask, etc. to get back the only network available.  HELP!!!!

I selected Forget This Network on my iPhone 5S by accident. Now I can see the network but none of the IP Address configuration is there.  The phone keeps searching with no result.  Been doing this for 2 days.    I have the IP address information, but I cannot enter it.  I have reset my Network settings, restarted my iPhone, Renewed the Lease.....  I must get wifi soon!!!!  But how? Two weeks ago I had the most current update for my operating system....

     Hey Jeanne,
The last thing you can try is to reset the network settings on your iPhone. It will clear out the other networks that you have joined. Let me know if this helps.

Tried to connect with my home wifi  3 or 4 times with I thought the correct password but now it says Forget This Network and wont let me try again. Can't its the only network available. How do I clear this and start over. Thanks, this laptop connects fine but this is my first smartphone and  I don't see why it gives a crap if I  mess up 50 times! Help!

Help is right here for you Omichael! Let's get you conneted
to your home wifi. May I ask are you able to connect to other wifi networks? If
so then please forget your home network again, turn wifi off, reboot, and
retest. If this doesn't work then you will want to reset network settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Keep in mind that
this will delete ALL wifi passwords that you have saved.

  • Must reenter network credentials

I have a Win8 Pro x64 box connected to a Windows Server 2012 Essentials (WS2012E) box and is part of its domain. I frequently must reenter my network credentials (i.e. domain login) in order to access files on the WS2012E server; File History is usually
the first to complain. By frequently I mean at least once a day and sometimes more. I work on the Win8 box at least 8 hours a day so this is perplexing to me. The WS2012E box never shuts down--ideally.
I also occasionally RDP into the Win8 box if I'm away from the office for various things but I am unable to connect using the domain account if the box is in the "credentials must be reentered" state. This was an interesting surprise when it happened
since RDP doesn't give you the opportunity to enter the credentials in this situation.
    What am I missing?
    Ray

Has anyone found a solution to this?  Happens to me as well.
