Windows 8.1 Metro UI apps not starting

Hi i just recently updated to windows 8.1 from windows 8 and have had some issues, a blue screen that keeps reappearing after i play some games, seems to be the intel driver causing it, did an update but it still keeps on going to blue screen, i do have
a discrete nvidia gpu on the side, but my main problem is the metro ui which has completely stopped working, every app even the app store and setting for the account, iam only able to access it via desktop mode, some app that say they do work only show the
background color of the metro ui when pressed, but most of the apps have a little cross down in their righ corner and no image, only text.... so does anybody know anything about this? any feedback is appreciated!

Having the same problem. I setup 2 accounts before upgraded to 8.1. They are working ok.
After upgrading to 8.1, any account I setup is showing all apps with the x mark. Even the store.
Spent 3 hours with HP for support, since it's a new computer. They tried everything. Couldn't fix it. Now they want me to reset and go back to 8.0. What a waste of time.
If 8.1 is not ready yet, why did Microsoft release it? Something as basic as a Metro apps not installing is just appalling.
And this is a new HP laptop. When I was younger, I had time to fiddle around with this kind of stuff. Now, I just want stuff to work. This may force me to go buy the MAC.
BTW, already tried all options, like troublshooter, etc..

This is a new issue, which began occuring sometime in the last 2 months. 3 months ago, users were able to configure backups without issue, and those computers with backups configured are still able to run their backups and do restores; however the
settings can no longer be changed.
Clearly something in the domain is doing this, but Group Policy has not been altered, and I can find no setting that would be doing this in any case. Any help is appreciated.

So you mean you have tried different accounts in the local Administrator group and all of them failed?
If so, please check what group the local Administrator group belongs to? Does it belong to a group with limited privileges, such as the Guests group?

Before going further, we can open Event Viewer to see whether some related error events were logged.

Downloaded apps not starting after splash screens

I've had this device for about a month.
I recently paid the $10 to upgrade the software to version 3.0.
There are 1.9 free GB on the device.
I sync it via a Windows Vista machine.
I have not downloaded any apps through iTunes on the Vista machine. I have downloaded five apps directly onto the device through the App Store. Two of the five were free (New York Times Reader, Skype) and the others I paid for.
Everything has been working fine until this morning when I tried to open the NYTimes reader. It showed the opening screen, then dropped back to the home screen. The same is happening will all five downloaded apps.
I tried syncing in iTunes, but none of my downloaded apps is listed in iTunes on my computer. Are they supposed to be there?
I've seen a few other questions of this nature, but no solution that makes any sense to me.
I'm pretty surprised to have this happening on a Mac product. I have restarted the device twice, with no change. I have also hooked the device up to my computer and tried to sync it, but I don't see any change. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to try to sync, since I just want these apps to work, but they don't show up on the iTunes app list on my computer.

I am trying to launch Amazon EC2 windows server 2008 R2 instance using AWS Auto Scaling feature. I have used cusmized AMI in Autoscaling Launch configuration to launch an instance.I have placed Power Shell script in AMI.
The responsibility of script is to download code from AWS S3 and deploy in IIS server while windows startup first time.
When i check status, IIS is started succesfully. But default Application pool is not started.
To resolve this issue i have written one scheduled script. It helps to start the application pool if any application pool is in stopped state.
After this Application pool is started but i am not able to communicate with IIS server through browser.
Please help any one to resolve this issue.

IOS 8 beta - Air apps not starting on iOS8

Hi there, I had some old apps released using AIR sdk 3.4 back in Sep 2012, and because they were working fine, I never updated with newer AIR sdks.
Today I installed iOS 8 beta on my ipad mini and tried out my apps and all the Air apps are not starting at all, just blank black screen.
On the console this is the message:

Yes, there have been significant differences since we released AIR SDK 3.4, we recommend try building your app with latest AIR SDK (14.0.0.110) and see if that solves the problem.

Address Book entries disappear & apps not starting at login when set.

On Friday, I created an address group for a class I'm teaching. After I finished creating the group, I left Address Book. Later, I was sending out email messages and email had lost its ability to complete the email addresses of people I correspond with, regularly. When it did this for several people, I went into Address Book and discovered that only the information for the new address group I created was in my Address Book. Furthermore, iChat, Calendar, and Mail are not starting when I login, as they are set to do. I rebooted my machine and they still didn't start. I disbled and re-enabled "start at login". That also didn't work. I disabled it, rebooted, logged in and re-enabled it, then rebooted again and that also didn't fix my problem. That these three programs are affected because all three of them read the Address Book data.
Has anyone else experience this problem and how did your fix it.

X11 and x11 apps not starting up

I've seen this question asked once before but didn't understand how to actually fix the problem from what I saw, so here it goes:
I installed X11 as an optional install from the DVD as you are supposed to do for system 10.4.3 but when I try starting up Gimp or Inkscape, X11 only starts up for a second before shutting down again. Here is the message that I see when I look at the console log:

I have 3 computers that I have recently updated to 10.4.4 all of them get the same error as described in the original post, but I do not have the ~/.xinitrc file at all...
I have even did a clean install of the OS on one of my computers and with a fresh install I get:

X11 itself runs, small apps such as xeyes, xman, xlogo run, but I cannot run Eiffel 5.6 IDE. as I then get the error:

when running the launch script for the X11 app.
I have seen these errors mentioned in various post regarding GIMP I have not seen a definitive answer, some are fixed by the answer in this post, others (including mine) are not.
On my freshly installed 10.4.4 I also removed the X11 Receipt and installed the X11User.pkg from the 10.4.3 installer DVD and still had error. I did not, however, remove the X11 software of components. (might try that next)
Also, this might be useful, I sometimes get this error when quitting the X11:
xterm: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) or KillClient on X server ".0"^M
Note: I had been using the X11 with Eiffel 5.6 Studio developer package with 10.4.3. Not sure when things stopped working as I have not used it since late November. Not sure if things stopped working after a Security Update, or the OS Update... any futher insights into this would be appreciated.

Facebook App not starting

Hi all,
I have a problem with the Facebook app for my TouchPad -- it only starts up once or twice then it does not want to start anymore.
Seems like the account-related features (pictures etc) still works, just the app itself that does not want to start.
I have already tried:
Not working:
* Uninstall/Reinstall
* Uninstall/Reboot/Reinstall
Works for a short while:
* Erase data (followed by re-signin/reinstall etc)
* Doctoring (not tried it myself, but apparently also works for a little while)
Anybody else here with a TouchPad that experiences these symptoms? Doctoring/erasing is not a solution because the I have to re-do _everything_.

Great catch cronhan! As an aside, I don't think the language of your profile is effecting this (and to my knowledge can't be changed after creation).
I think it has to do with application localization. The Region Settings you mention effect the entire device and it sounds like there is a conflict between your Facebook App and the device when you change the regional settings. IMHO, I think this should be reported back to the engineers at HP.

App' icon boucing in dock and app' not starting

Hi there, can anyone help?
I used to use Photoshop 7 on OS9 with no problems. After switching over to OSX I found that I couldn't start Photoshop (although I could by switching back to OS9). I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the same results.
As a very regular Photoshop user i continued using it on the OS9 operating system, although it was a pain to keep switching operating systems because I wanted to use other OSX applications at the same time.
I recently uninstalled Photoshop 7 and installed Photoshop CS. Now I don't have Photoshop at all! The installer said that CS had been successfully installed but every time I try and start the application the icon bounces in the dock and disappears.
desperate to get Photoshop up and running on OSX because I need it for work.
Any tips would be fab.

The only thing that may have something to do with the problem is at the bottom of the system log. Being a complete technophobe it means absolutely nothing to me, so any further help on the matter would be very much appreciated.

Spotify app not starting on my phone, help pls.

I'm having this huge problem, that stops me from listening to spotify.
I'm starting my phone, open the application spotify and it wont start.
The screen just turns out white, and keep that way. After like 20 seconds it says if I want to shut it down, or wait for the program to respond or send a report.
I've tried to:
* Reinstall spotify
* Restarted my phone (battery out, sd-card out, SIM-card out)
I'm using Xperia X10 and it worked well until today. I've been having this problem for hours now. Please help me!

Im having the same issue. I have a Galaxy S5. It worked fine on my S3. I install it and go to log in and it just sits and shows a spinning symbol. It works on my computer. So i went into my account and clicked on devices and it said you have to have a seperate log in for each device and said it sent an email to me but it never came??? I did that at least 3 times !!! i tried uninstalling it from my phone rebooting my phone then reinstalling and the sme thing happens EVERY TIME !!!
