Windows 8.1 no internet

Question

I am a complete computer novice so I have looked at a few posts on here but not entirely sure what to do! I updated to windows 8.1 and since then have been unable to connect to the internet. It has signal, and for other devices the internet is working but it has an exclamation mark and says it is limited! Under the network adapters in the device manager it has 2 descriptions. One is Broadcom 802.11n and the other is Qualcomm atheros ar8172/8176/8178? Any suggestions?

I was having the same issue, but I learn how to temporary fix it! 
1. Press the "start" key and the "x" key at the same time.
2. Click on "Device Manager".
3. Expand on "Network Adapters.
4. Right-click on the Internet connection device, and Click "Update Driver Software..."
5. Click "Browse my computer for software".
6. Click "Let me pick from a list...."
7. Click on either of the ones listed there and click "Next". It will update your network driver. Once it's done, check to see if it work. If it doesn't go back to the list and choose another option. 
This method has worked for me for the past few weeks. Every now and then I have to repeat these steps because the problem keeps on appear sometimes. I will eventually just do the recovery and downgrade back to Win 8.

Note this also works for all other devices. I fixed my screen brightness adjustment like this.
