Windows 8.1-No UEFI firmware setting in advance option. Can't access BIOS with F2-Lenovo B575

There was Windows 7 Home Premium on my machine before (Lenovo B575)and I could access the BIOS and Boot Menu pressing F2 and F12. I installed Windows 8 Enterprise version first and lost the ability to go into the BIOS. I upgraded this version to 8.1 with
same results. In advanced option I don't have UEFI firmware setting tile. So I can't choose to get to the BIOS with this method. I have tried to go into the BIOS at the boot pressing F2 and many other keys with no result. The OS in both cases 8 and 8.1 hung
several times during the installation process. I had to manually reboot machine during installation several times. After the windows were installed the system still can't shut down or restart normally and I have played with different settings in power / shutdown
option. Please help. I need to be able to access my BIOS at boot or Windows level. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
The method to enter into advanced boot option in Windows 8\8.1 is different from Windows 7, pressing F12 during boot may not work because the booting process in Windows 8\8.1 is too fast. Here's an document from Lenovo website:

Please Note the sentence at the end:  Lenovo preloaded Windows 8/8.1 is set up with UEFI boot. If your computer is not fitted with UEFI boot, you can only enter BIOS setup or UEFI firmware via  the traditional method.
that means If you installed Windows 8\8.1 the U/EFI way you should be able to access UEFI options,
To check if you boot UEFI way, run in admin command prompt:
bcdedit
for example:
If path ends in
.efi - you boot U/EFI way, and path ends in .exe - you boot normal BIOS way.

After updating my iphone5, my phone went back to factory setting and now I can't sign in with my apple id because it does not recognise it... Help?!

Yes, my telco is an approved carrier. If my phone was brand new, I think so, they opened it in front of me.. I really couldn't remember it was 1.4 years ago. It did seem new.
Well it says, "_____" cannot be used to unlock this iphone. I've tried both my apple ids but it didn't work.

  • Problem setting project end point (can't access the end point marker)

I can't seem to set my project end point because the slider control that adjusts the spacing of the measures is obstructing my pointer from being able to click on the end point marker. Any hints as to how I can move the coation of this slider control so that I can access the end point marker with my pointer?

FYI - the end point marker now turns into a bracket when you hover over it.
THe End-of-Project Marker doesn't change at all. What you see is a change of the Mouse Pointer.
This is called a "Click Zone" where the Mouse Pointer changes to different shapes when moving over or click on an object or an area in the window.
Here the Mouse Pointer changes to "Trim Tool" or "Resize Tool".
    Pointer Tool:
    Resize Tool:
It is the same Tool wne you move the Mouse Pointer of the right edge of a Region to resize its length.
    Hope that helps

Yes, everything is working fine. Actually, using F2 seems fine now and I've been in the bios/uefi a couple of times since. I'm a backup/restore freak that wants everything redundant and all bases covered in case booting into windows becomes impossible. Is there a simple way, that I've missed, to get into Windows RE when the computer will not boot? Just curious. Thanks, Ed

I am getting "a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\itunes.msi" when I attempt to install itunes.  Can anybody help me to resolve this issue?

You can try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download the iTunes installation
Also try posting in the iTunes forum since it is not an iPod touch problem.

I thought establishing a master password would do this but it does not. I want to protect saved information, i. e. tax returns.

Your first line of defense against inquisitive eyes is the Logon User Account feature in WinXP. Not all stored data that is created or saved thru Firefox is actually saved in Firefox, but rather in your "user data" in Windows.

I tried to access photoshop cs and it wanted me to reactivate the program, but the program failed and then I tried to reinstall it on Windows 7 home edition but the file transfer failed. It wouldn't do it. I just used cs the other day after I had restored the computer but now suddenly it uninstalled itself from my computer and I can't reinstall it.

click start>control panel>uninstall programs and see if ps cs6 is installed.  if it is, uninstall it using the uninstaller.
    then run the cleaner (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html).
then restart your computer and reinstall ps cs6.

  • I have a Windows 7. Is there a ebook reader that i can read my books with

I have an iphone. I have transferred my books to itunes, but i am running a windows 7 computer.  Is there a good ebook reader that I can use? I thought that maybe apple might have something, but apparently not. I am trying to find something that would be similar to the reader on the iPhone.

I don't understand; did you really convert all your Excel docs to PDF (how?), or did you merely lose/change the file association?

  • Control Value:Set [Variant] Method - how can i use this with strict type definitions?

I want to pass default values to a strict type definition from a mainVI to a subVI, but I'm not allowed to use the "Control Valueet [Variant] Method" invoke node to do it.  How else can I achieve this?
    thanks,

    Hi Z,
If you use strict type defintion references you can use Call by reference Node. Depending on the connector pane for the subvi which is referenced you just wire your data to the corresponding terminals. I attach an easy example which dynamically opens and writes to an arbitary number of a template.
    Hope it helps

Is it possible in a VBA macro to check whether an opened word document has the advanced option "Use fonts that are stored on the Printer" is set.
I have a word macro that opens and processes thousands of word documents.  The processing needs to be different based on whether this option is set or not.

    Hi Harry,
I'm afraid that we're not able to retrieve this option value. The Advanced Options are actually stored as application level. Some of the options can be accessed with the Word.Application.Options property. But there're also many options that are not
exposed in the Word Object Model. As you can see in this figure, there's no property corresponding to "Use fonts that are stored on the printer":

  • VBS - Having issues trying to delete duplicate UEFI firmware objects in BCM/NVRAM

We've been using SCCM 2012 R2 to test deployments of Window 8.1 to UEFI-enabled Lenovo laptops. We found that when you image these laptops over and over again a new "Windows Boot Manager" entry is created as a boot option each time. After much
hair pulling, we finally found a couple references to the issue:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749510(v=ws.10).aspx
    http://jeff.squarecontrol.com/archives/184/comment-page-1#comment-355
In that second link, particularly the comment referenced, someone posted a VBS that will use WMI to automatically clean up firmware boot loader entries. This would be great since we could just add a task sequence step during SCCM OSD, and not have to do
it manually like the Technet entry wants us to.
The problem is I'm not great with scripting, and can usually get by modifying someone else's script. This time, however, I can't get this one to work for the life of me. So you don't have to keep looking at the second link, here's the contents of the script:
    option explicit
    dim strComputer
    dim strFilePath
    dim objLocator
    dim objRootWMI
    dim objBCD
    dim objBCDStore
    dim objFWBL
    dim colObjects
    dim objElement
    dim strTemp
    Const BcdLibraryString_Description = &h12000004
    Const Firmware = &h101FFFFF
    strComputer = “.”
    strFilePath = “TEMPSTORE”
    ‘Connect to WMI
    set ObjLocator = CreateObject(“WbemScripting.SWbemLocator”)
    set objRootWMI = ObjLocator.ConnectServer(strComputer, “root\wmi”)
    objRootWMI.Security_.ImpersonationLevel = 3
    strTemp = “winmgmts:{impersonationlevel=Impersonate,(Backup,Restore)}!root/wmi:BcdStore”
    ‘ Open the BcdStore.
set objBCD = GetObject( strTemp )
    if Err.number 0 then
    WScript.Echo “ERROR: GetObject(” & strTemp & “) failed rc=” & Hex(Err.number) & ” ” & Err.Description’
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
if not objBCD.OpenStore(strFilePath, objBcdStore ) then
WScript.Echo “ERROR: Could not open the BCD system store.”
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
    set objBCD = nothing
‘ Enumerate the Firmware Boot Manager.
if not objBcdStore.EnumerateObjects(Firmware, colObjects ) then
    WScript.Echo “ERROR: objBcdStore.EnumberateObjects( Firmware ) failed.”
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
    for each objFWBL in colObjects
    if not objFWBL.GetElement( BcdLibraryString_Description, objElement ) then
    WScript.Echo “ERROR: Firmware Boot Loader GetElement for ” & Hex(BcdLibraryString_Description) & ” failed.”
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
    if not BcdStore.DeleteObjectobjFWBL.Id) then
WScript.Echo “ERROR: Could not delete Firmware Boot Loader Item: ” & objElement.String
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
    WScript.Echo “Deleted Firmware Boot Loader Item: ” & objElement.String
    next
    set objFWBL = nothing
    set objBcdStore = nothing
    set objLocator = nothing
    set objRootWMI = nothing
After pasting that into VBSedit the first thing I did was fix all the quotation marks that invariably get jacked up when copy/pasting from webpages. I also noticed a random single quote mark at the end of line 35 that I figured was a typo, so I removed it:
    WScript.Echo “ERROR: GetObject(” & strTemp & “) failed rc=” & Hex(Err.number) & ” ” & Err.Description’
However, after that got fixed, I'm still getting an error "script.vbs (34, 15) Microsoft VBScript compilation error: Expected 'Then'". I'm guessing that line 34 needs some kind of logical operator for the "If Err.number 0 then" statement.
    But, I can't figure out what it would be, i.e. <> 0, = 0, etc.
Just to play around with it I tried both, and still get errors regarding line 35. So, I'm guessing something is really messed up around there. I would really appreciate anyone that could give me some guidance as my forehead is sore from banging it into the
    keyboard. Thanks.

Line 35 lacks an Equal sign.
Many of the other lines use non-ASCII single or double quotes. The version below uses the correct symbols.

    dim strFilePath

    Const BcdLibraryString_Description = &h12000004

WScript.Echo "ERROR: Could not delete Firmware Boot Loader Item: " & objElement.String
    WScript.Quit(1)
    end if
    WScript.Echo "Deleted Firmware Boot Loader Item: " & objElement.String
    next
    set objFWBL = nothing
    set objBcdStore = nothing
    set objLocator = nothing
    set objRootWMI = Nothing
Right. Like I was saying in my post, I replaced all the quotes and double quotes, and also tried = 0 for that line. I just copy/pasted what you wrote and I still get the same error as when I tried it before:
    ERROR: GetObject(winmgmts:{impersonationlevel=Impersonate,(Backup,Restore)}!root/wmi:BcdStore) failed rc=0
    ***** script completed - exit code: 1 *****
