Windows 8.1/ No video preview in timeline, source pane or timeline pane.

I have just recently had to switch to a PC... Coming from Mac.   It has been over 7 years for me and this is my first PC without windows XP.   So... I have an Asus Laptop with an I7 2.5Gz, 8 GB Ram, 2 gig on board video.  Windows 8.1.
Brand new.  Just installed Premiere CC and I cannot get video to preview.  Either in the timeline, the source pane or in the main pane.  Nothing.  Installed QuickTime.  Still nothing.  No formats, MOV, MP4... Nada.
What gives?  Am I missing something?   Even went as far as dumping and re installing.  Classic windows, its broken, get out and get back in thing.
Not the files I am importing, as they work just fine on my Macbook Air.

Hi,
Does your computer have Intel HD Graphics 4000 or above?
If yes, before importing any media go to File > Project settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only and choose 'Delete previews' after clicking OK. Then import your footage and see if you still have the same problem.
Thanks,
Rameez

  • Video Preview in Program/Source Pane is Small

    Hello there,
I imported a sequence from FCP7 into Priemere by creating an XML(v5).  My sequence settings and clip settings match, so that's probably not the problem.  I have checked "Fit" and it still shows up pretty small.  However, when I add a new clip (that I also imported from FCP&) to same sequence it is the correct size in the Program and Source Pane.
I have been googling this answer ALL day now.. and can't edit until I fix this! Someone please help!

have the clips been scaled in any way?

  • Flash Pro, How can preview sound with the vidio on embedded video on the timeline

I am using a windows 7 based machine Flash Pro CC.  I embedded the video on the timeline, basically a person talking. Want to put pictures in and out during certain times of the discussion but when I press play on the preview these is no sound.  When I test publish the project I get sound.  How do I get the sound on the embedded video to play on the preview?

Make sure that you have the latest version of > Safari 4.1 for Tiger

  • Any ideas on how to make my video preview work?

We have installed Premiere Pro CS4 on some brand new HP Compaq dc7900 machines (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/sm/WF06a/12454-12454-64287-3328898-3328898-3785403.ht ml) that supposedly use the Intel GMA 4500 integrated graphics chip. The problem is, that we cannot play any captured or imported video (sounds do play though), all we get is this funny turquoise screen. However, if I click in the preview window while stopped, the frame does show as it should.
I have spent some time searching for this and I realize I'm not the only one experiencing this problem but I have yet to see a solution that works, at least on my system.
The Intel Graphics chip only supports OpenGL 1.4 (see hp link), not 2.0 as the CS4 requirements states.
Well, I could be mistaken already at this point, but I am under the impression that the OpenGL 2.0 only comes into play when playing certain effects, not just playing video on the timeline. Intel has also said that 2.0 support is included in the "new" driver for Q43/Q45 (http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphic s/) My current driver is from September 09, and I have also tried drivers from April and March without any luck.
The weird thing about this, is that when I disable the Q43/Q45 driver under device manager and restart my PC (with a blurry image in too low resolution), the video in Premiere plays back like there is no tomorrow! Everything runs just fine! (Except that I have to sit 3 metres from the screen to actually see anything)
The "Other devices" is most likely something to do with the 1394-card we put in. It does work as is though. Enabling/disabling the other video adapters shown does not change anything around our issue.
I can't understand what is making this problem, but it does sound a lot like a driver issue. For good measure I have included a screenshot from GSpot:
I'm grateful for any help I can get on this!

There are some low-profile slots though 1 of them are occupied by the firewire card: 1 low-profile PCI, 2 low-profile PCI Express x16, 1 low-profile PCI Express x1
We actually purchased 13 of these computers for video editing, so I really hope it is possible to fix this without buying 13 low-profile graphics adapters. What gets to me is the fact that it does work when I disable the driver. (!) Shold therefore be doable to make a driver/update that works :-(
Any ideas? Or, in worst case, anyone know about a low-profile graphics card that works?
    Thanks,
    Steffen

  • Quicktime not an option on Sequence settings Video preview

In the sequence settings, under video preview, "Quicktime" is not listed as a Preview File Format.
    Running Windows 8.1, 64bit
I have installed the latest Quicktime, uninstalled it, reinstalled it, repaired it, to no avail.
Also I have done the same with Premiere Pro, uninstalling and reinstalling.
Here is a screenshot of the drop-down menu that does not have the Quicktime option.
I have run out of ideas for how to get this to appear, so I came here :/
    Thanks in advance!

[Here's the one response from the duplicate thread.]
The Preview format options have always been somewhat limited. Consider this, that the previews should be just that - previews. When you have sufficient effects added to a clip to where it won't play smoothly in the timeline, you might wish to render it to get a better idea how the finished product will look. However, when you do the final export, best to NOT check the box for "Use Previews", since you would then be re-encoding (recompressing) the clip a second time. Better to export right the timeline, encoding straight from the source to final destination, diregarding any render previews you might have made.
Maybe you can elaborate on the intended use or workflow of your desired preview format? I'm a PC user and I think that on the Mac, with FCP, one had the option to render previews as QuickTime and those files could then be stitched together at the end without transoding them again, but not so with Premiere.
You might find that different Sequence Presets will provide different render preview options. 1280x960 is a non-standard format so that could limit your options.

  • Preview vs. timeline

When I use preview mode video is showed ok. If I moved it into timeline and pressed play video, the video is showed in strange colours, bugs. etc. Another videos in project are showed right. The project is in full hd format and the videos have also the same format.

    mr_t
After replying to prior questions, I have some questions also, not already pointed to.
    1. From what you wrote, it sounds  to me like only one video file on the Timeline is affected, and no other video files on that Timeline are affected even if those other files have the same format as the problem file. Is that correct? If so, that would seem to take the video card/graphics card out of the troubleshooting equation.
    2. Knowing the version of Premiere Elements and on what operating system it is running are important. For now, I will assume Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13
on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. If you select and highlight the problem video on the Timeline and go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/...and display of panels, do any of the panels have a green dot on them? If so, which one(s). Aside from that, did you knowingly apply any effect(s) to the problem clip that you did not to the others? Here I am suspecting a Smart Fix being applied with or without your knowledge.
As a just in case note about what you see in the Preview Window when you double clip the file thumbnail in Project Assets or on the Timeline -
You see the source file without applied effects et al. That is normal.
If you press the play button of the Edit area monitor, you get the playback on the Timeline content with its applied effects et al. That is normal.
Consequently, my initial target in your troubleshooting is what has been knowingly or unknowingly applied to the problem clip in the scenario
that I suspect and have stated at the top of this post.
We will be following your replies to all contributions.
    Thank you.

  • Having trouble disabling video previews

I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and 1.5.  I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista.  While on Vista I only had 1.5 running on my computer.  Since upgrading to Win7, I noticed that when I upload a video file into the timeline, I am forced to render a video preview file.  I don't remember how to disable this so that I can go back to realtime editing.  I am also having the same issue with Premiere CS4.  Does anyone know how to disable preview renders in both of these versions of Premiere?

I have been using the proper file formats.  Problem is I didn't have this issue before in which I would get a red line on my timeline that force me to render my project everytime I added a new scene.  Only times I've ever had to render are through the use of transitons and filters.  I'm not doing anything differently than I have before.

  • No preview of timeline project

I have a problem that I don't have preview window on the right side when working with my timeline.
Though I hear audio from the timeline point a mouse and I can see preview when I'm working with source video which is on the bottom
I tried to import videos from many different sources, changed all settings - nothing changed. And preview was before, it just gone once!
I have imovie11 and Lion. And there's a video explaining problem http://yfrog.com/nriahz, it's in russian but it's all obvious 'cause the video shows exactly what is missing, the preview panel is grey when my mouse on the left side

I somehow solved problem (but got another)
It were none of your reasons: Adv mode was on and trashing didn't help
I updated Lion to some new (minor change) version and reinstalled iMovie, it works now
Now I have another problem - with sound not picture
Importing a mp4 movie into project and it's looses quality of sound and even part of all sound - it's silence for 5 seconds in the end though source was with sound.
    I just don't get it

  • Lags while previewing AVCHD timeline

    Hey Guys,
Sorry for another thread being opened, but I guess the old thread is not to the point with my problem.
The current situation is simple, I can't edit avchd footage.
With only one strip of video (AVCHD 1080i 25fps), I can't preview the time line without heavy lags.
I don't know where to attack the problem from.. the machine is brand new and I have tried just about everything.
Is it a hardware problem? I'm pretty desperate.
    The machine:
    i7 2600k, p8z68 v pro MOBO, 16gb ram (4x4GB G.Skill RipJaw X Edition Dual Channel CL7-8-7-24)
GTX 560 Ti ('hacked' the cuda list)
500gb black caviar sata 3 for os
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Project & Media
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Scartch,Renders,Etc.
    2tb green caviar for backups.
    *using the onboard raid controller.
No index, no compression, maxed out for performance in every aspect (removed visuals), disabled services, removed auto startups thingies
disabled anti virus, windows is up to date.
Hdd are defragged without partitions, I get 163 average speed in hd zune which I think is normal.
Ram: no page on any drive other then on the scratch raid with 24gb set as fixed size, power plan is set to high performance.
I'm running adobe cs5.5 with latest 5.5.2 update.
Benchmarking with the ppbm is quite ok compared to other similar sets.
Because the problem is previewing the timeline my guess, the problem is something with read speed from the hdd.
The CPU goes up to 30% when I'm playing with the timeline and memory usagase is about 7-8gb
One last thought, maybe I'm editing in a not suitable sequence? when I'm laying the footage on the time line the entire sequence is yellow.
    Many thanks,
    Eliran.

    Hi Eliran,
At the bottom left of default Premiere layout, you should have a "Browser" pane or tab - open that and navigate to where the video files are. I don't think you even need to dig all the way down to the Stream folder - this is what Browser does, is locate the VIDEO clips out of the complexity. It will list them out, and you can multi-select the ones you want and drag them to the timeline sequence OR the clip bin.
The way AVCHD works is that audio and video files are sometimes separate, then there is the metadata and such, and the parts are all kind of separate, so if you ONLY go and import the video clip, sometimes causes issues in editing. Better to use Browser because it understands all that and takes care of it for you. Maybe I'm oversimplifying or don't have it 100% correct, but just saying that we've had customers with editing problems that were solved by using Browser rather than Import.
Doesn't hurt to try that method, is recommended for tapeless materials.

  • Video preview problem

Hi. I have a problem with video playback in my premiere cc. In project window I have video file imported, video is on timeline, but I can't see this video preview in program and source windows. I haven't worked a lot in premiere and I don't know where the problem is. I have already reinstalled program, but it didn't solve the problem. Can someone help me? Additionally, when I render this video, everything is fine,...problem is that, I can't see what I render

  • Rendering Video Previews increases number of videos

    Well,
I have a clip that is about 2 minutes long and has 57 video clips, about 10 cross-dissolves and a simple preset look from magic bullet 1.4
When I hit render a few hours ago it said "Rendering 1 of 57 Video Previews" and "Rendering Frame 1 of 2889".....so I took a nap.
Four hours later it's still rendering....and now it sais "Rendering 5786 of 18759 Video Previews" and a similar astronomic Number in Frames.
I found out that it happens when I select the area of my entire clip and hit "Render entire work area" to even render the many yellow parts of the sequence.

I have the same problem as this original post. I have taken a sequence that was incorrectly created using 29.97 instead of 25p and copied and pasted the entire project into a new sequence that is 25p.
I have fixed all the keyframes for the audio which did not come over in the copy and paste and then went to render the timeline. I first tried to render just a short section as a work area so I could see if my rolling credits were smooth. But the render is constantly creating more and more video previews. Far mare than the project has. Estimated time left says 00:00:00 and the render bar never go green past the first 100 frames or so.
I have left it to render for hours just to see if it finishes, but the video preview count just grows and grows.
It does the same whether I render the whole project, or just the work area.
Using Premier CS5 on windows 7 64 bit. Build 5.01
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This first post was over 2 months ago, I wonder if any Adobe folks have an idea of what this problem is?

  • Red zones video previewing stops with audio OK

    Hi!
The problem I actually have with premiere is the following:
After working 1-2 days in a project, using Canon 70D´s 1080p H.264 footage, premiere stops previewing video in the timeline. Green or yellow parts are being display when scrubbing or playing, but when the playline holds the red parts, the video just freezes. The audio continues without problems. So you get a freezed frame (the last yellow frame), with the audio playing fine.
Sometimes the playing works without problem, including red parts, being previewed smoothly, but suddenly it stops in the middle of a red section (not in the beggining of a red clip).Quitting and restarting Premiere usually solves the problem, but most of the times you get the same issue after 5-10 minutes working... sometimes even sooner.
The clips have the magic bullet looks 2.5 effect applied, and someone also the filmconvert 2.1 effect. There is not a specific clip which is corrupted: the problem appears in any zone of the timeline. There are also some clips with Dinamic linked after effects projects (usually simple projects with masks or trakers).
Sometimes, the clips in the bin also appear as "Missing file", but not all the times.
When the problem occurs, both the render preview (enter key) and the export movie may not workwith premiere being blocked. But sometimes do work!
I´ve tried to clean the database cache, with horrible results (more "missing file" problems... until I resolved it). Also tried to change the rendering method (GPU or Software only render), but the problem persists on both modes.
This happens in all the projects (at least 4 different projects) I´m actually working with, and in 2 different machines (but with the same hardware: both are Intel I5 4670, 8Gb RAM, Asrock H87 Pro4, Windows 8.1 64 bit). Bot Premiere CC and CC 2014 have the same problem.
Any ideas or suggestions about this? I´m desesperated!
    Cheers,
    Xabier

The clips have the magic bullet looks 2.5 effect applied, and someone also the filmconvert 2.1 effect.
that is probably the cause. They are cpu intensive.
Put the effect on a adjustment layer so that you can turn them of during playback.
    Dinamic linked after effects projects
Export from Ae with an intermediare codec. Import that into Premiere.

  • Video preview is white

I'm running Premiere Elements 8 and working on a video, but the video preview window (positioned on the upper left of the screen by default) is stuck in a perpetual white mode.  If I enable the safe margins, they show up but no video content displays in the box.  However, if I click the video preview window, the clip that is forwardmost in the timeline becomes selected and I can see it (when it is selected, I can scale it and move it around, because it's altering the motion properties of that clip).  The minute I try to play the video within the editor, the window returns to white.
I've attached a screenshot to show you what I'm talking about.
So does anybody have any ideas regarding what is happening?  Restarting the program hasn't corrected it, and therea re no updates.

Before I start, I can't see how drivers, source video file details or my hardware could be relevent here because none of them have changed since the last time I used the program.
Video is two different resolutions: 840x524 and 1360x768.  They're video that was captured in real-time from video games using a program called Fraps.  The reason why I don't think this is relevent is because the display is white whether I have anything in the timeline or not.  I could have a blank project with absolutely no media in it at all and the display is white.
I have a gaming laptop running an nVidia G94, which utilizes three video cards: a single GeForce 9400 when in low-power mode and two GeForce 9800's when running in high power mode.  The driver is 195.81.  It shouldn't be because the drivers aren't officially supported for the G94, but the only place that provides drivers hasn't updated them in over a year and a half.  It's either I use old drivers that will prevent certain games from working or I modify the INF of the newest nVidia driver to recognize that I am running two 9800s and a 9400.  This has never been an issue in the entire five or six months I've been using it.  I've been running Premiere for close to three months and this is the first time I've encountered this issue.
[e] I'm trying the newest nVidia drivers, 196.34, and will report my findings.

  • Button video previews.  Help!

I am currently working on a DVD project that requires a single video preview pane that shows video based on the focus state of a button.
For example if my Menu has 8 buttons, when 1 button is focused the preview window shows an associated clip. The idea is that when the focus state moves to button2, the preview pane will show alternate clips for button2.
Is this possible in Encore CS3, and can anyone provide information or links that could help me accomplish this goal.

Auto-activate works by activating the menu button as soon as it is selected.
So on the first menu, the first video clip is visible in the button, and the link for that button is set to the timeline that is supposed to play.
If the user navigates to the second button, then it is automatically activated and the user is taken to a duplicate menu of the first, only this time video 2 is playing in the thumbnail. If the user presses Enter on the remote, then timeline 2 plays. If the user navigates to button 3 or back to button 1, then the auto-activate feature takes them to the appropriate duplicate menu and the process is repeated.
This technique involves lots of menus, lots of complex linking and many opportunities for error. And even if you get it right, the DVD won't work correctly (and the illusion will be spoiled) on a software DVD player. When the user hovers the mouse cursor over the button on a software DVD player, that gesture is insufficient to trigger the auto-activate feature, so the menu won't change to its duplicate.
If you have background audio and/or video in the menus, then be aware that the video and audio will start over when the menus change. Again, this will spoil the illusion on *any* DVD player.
    -Jeff

  • How to tell whether video preview is working?

An app shows video preview with code essentially the same as in
    the MSDN document:
async void ShowPreview(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    if (mediaCaptureMgr == null)
    // Using Windows.Media.Capture.MediaCapture APIs
    // to stream from webcam
    mediaCaptureMgr = new MediaCapture();
    await mediaCaptureMgr.InitializeAsync();
    myCaptureElement.Source = mediaCaptureMgr;
    await mediaCaptureMgr.StartPreviewAsync();
It works most of the time. However, sometimes the video does not show. When this happens, myCaptureElement.ActualWidth and myCaptureElement.ActualHeight still return the correct values. This probably means at least something is working. In this case, how can
the code tell what my eyes can see - the video is not showing?
    Hong

    Hi Hong,
Based on my knowledge, your problem may related to the dispose of the MediaCapture object. Forget to dispose it when app suspends will result in a negative user experience for your app.
About your question, I’ve not seen such property in MediaCapture class, so it’s recommend to create a Boolean that indicate whether the app is currently previewing video. You need to maintain this object when start or stop preview. You can find more information
    from this page.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/xaml/hh868171.aspx. See Step 5 section.
