Windows 8.1 on iMac runs all games extremely slow

I bought my iMac new in late 2013 and recently put a copy of windows 8.1 on it via bootcamp.  However, when I tried to play any game on it which uses 3d graphics it is unplayable due to lag.  When I launched Fable: The Lost Chapters (a game that came out 10 years ago!) I get a pop up saying that my machine is not powerful enough to play it.  Has anyone experienced similar issues with gaming on windows 8.1 via bootcamp?

did you install the apple hardware driver ?
if not it will likely not be able to use the video card fully
the drivers can be made in osx bootcamp program or downloaded as a zip file form apples site

  • Cannot install Windows 7 on my iMac running Snow Leopard

When I run Boot Camp Assistant to partition the HDD it says it wants to install some Windows drivers first.  When I say OK it starts and then reports that it can't find the drivers.  I have to force quit Boot Camp Assistant to regain control of the iMac.

disconnect all usb devices (except your kb and mouse and usb drive being used by boot camp)
    use only a usb2 drive
if your imac has a dvd drive, you have to use that for the windows installer, usb will not work

  • Windows XP Connection to iMac running Lion

Is it possible to get a Windows XP PC see an Imac running Lion on the PCs workgroup folder? If yes, how? I have already enabled SMB and AFB and added a few shared folders on the Mac. Thank you.

Nope, not possible. You can however install Parallels or VMWare Fusion on your iMac then install XP and run windows. If you can somehow get the data from  your PC  then you can operate OS X and XP simultaneous.  Boot Camp with the version of OS X installed on your system is only designed to run Windows 7. BTW if you want to continue down the XP/Boot Camp path there is a Boot Camp forum.

  • Windows 7 Pro on iMac (mid 2011) and network slows down

We have an office with about 8 mid 2011 21" iMacs running Windows 7 Pro courtesy of Bootcamp.  The machines boot quickly and all programs open quickly.  They each have from 2 - 4 mapped network drives to a 2012 Windows Server 2008 R2 HP GL380 server on-site and are wired with Gig Ethernet HP business class switches).  The users' Documents, Desktop, and a couple other directories are re-directed to the file server using an Active Directory Group Policy Object (GPO).
A couple of the computers will regularly start to slow down after only 20 or 30 minutes of use.  The rest have occasionally experienced it but it's always independent of others experiencing the slowdown.  The computers with the more regular slowdowns I've also booted into OS 10.7.x and the transfer rates to the same file server are fast and consistent.  BTW, all computers are current on Windows updates and Apple updates.

  • All games same slowing down and speeding up issues

I've noticed that in all the games I play, which is Torchlight, Portal, Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty 4 I have the same strange frames per second issue.
The games FPs will be fine and then suddenly it was judder down to about half or less of the normal FPs, this lasts about 1.5 - 2 seconds but this cycle will happen every few seconds, making games almost unplayable. I ask in these forums because it's the same effect across all games therefore it's not down to the application am running.
This is on a fresh install of 10.6.3, all minimum requirements for the games are exceeded, I have done Disk Utility checks on the HDD. Been searching this problem on Google for some days now but no one else seems to mention it/have it.
Thanks in advance for your time and advice.
    Regards
    Ben

What kind of heat is your GPU at while playing these games? FWIW i'm on same spec and I don't see the issue.

  • FCP 6.0.1 Running and previewing extremly slow

Ever since I upgraded to 6.0.1 FCP is running extremly slow.
In my current project, I brought in a HDV QT.mov that needed to be Chroma Keyed and color adjusted. Previewing the chroma keyed file looks horrible (all jagged) unless I render it. That takes time. Then I added a piece of stock DV footage under that, blurred the background and it played back like crap until I rendered it. More time. And so on.
I can't make any adjustment and see how it looks without rendering.
When I was working in 5.1 FCP I was able to add all type of files and zip right through them pretty much. Now I can't seem to get my settings right or something...so as I apply different effects or filters I can never see on the fly how it looks without rendering it first. Then of course...if it's not right...I tweak it again but can't see how that looks until I render it again.
All my video files resides on a RAID that I created from 2 of my internal drives and it also is my scratch & render disk.
It's eating my lunch on production time.
    Any suggestions Please.

You could try setting the render in the sequences you work with to ProRes. Found in that sequence setting's video processing tab.
But the real fix is to not work in HDV at all. If you have an Intel mac, a capture card like the Kona LHe card will transcode your HDV directly to ProRes... or AJA's Io HD (at the high end of this workflow) will transcode the HDV to ProRes on board the box itself... The Io will take your HDMI signal directly from the camera and transcode it to anything. It starts shipping any day now.
You're a brave soul attempting chroma keys with HDV... they are nigh on impossible to look good. But ProRes will make the rendering times go way down, and give you more real time playback of effects.

  • A few (not all) websites extremely slow

I know very little about computers, but my husband and I are very frustrated with our internet on our iMac.  Over the past few months, a few websites have been extremely slow to load (5 to 15 minutes to even get onto a home page.)  It's only some websites (mainly Facebook and Comcast, our local internet provider's site that my e-mail is through.)  We've had our high speed internet connection checked out and that's no the problem.  Neither is our wireless router or our modem.  We now realize it's our computer itself.
I've cleared history/cookies/cache to try and speed things up, but nothing has worked so far.  Like I said, it's only a handful of websites.... everything else is fine.  Why is this happening and how do we go about trying to resolve it?  (Go easy on me... I'm no computer whiz but I can certainly follow instructions on how to try to fix things.)  Thanks.

  • Install Windows 8.1 on iMac running Mavericks

    Hello everybody,
I have a problem with my iMac 21.5 late 2012 running Mavericks. I wanted to install Windows 8.1 on a partition of the Mac, and therefore I bought the DVD from Microsoft and started Boot Camp. I followed the whole procedure, saved the support software on a 16gb flash drive, and all seemed to be going on fine, up to when I discovered I wasn't able to use my Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard to finish configuring Windows (I mean, from where it asks you to enter a PC name and set the color of the system). I repeated the whole process again and again, but I always get stuck at the same point... Any suggestion?
Thank you very much in advance for your help

Windows will not boot from USB if the Mac has an internal optical drive. This is something that Microsoft implemented.

  • How i install Windows 8 on my iMac whit, How i install Windows 8 on my iMac with all drivers working well?

    Hi,
I just want to know if bootcamp allready supports windows 8 with all drivers working like magic mouse gestures, the optic drive, sd card, USB ports, bluetooth al patches are working fine and if all is working ok how to intall, if is a normal bootcamp installation or requires other procedure
    Thank you

The Windows 7 drivers worked perfectly for me on my Early-2011 Core i5 MBP.
It's not officially supported by Apple yet as it's pre-release software, but you can install it without any problems.

  • My iMac 27" suddenly got extremely slow

Thursday night I was using my iMac as usual with no problems, Friday morning it stopped responding, or it was responding painfully slow.
I fear that the suggestion will be that the HD is dying.
I have tried everything possible. Freeing up space, removing all programs from startup, re-install OS X, repair disk with disk utility etc.
The strange thing is: I created a new user profile/login. Of course this one is a clean profile with no added programs etc. This user repsonds immediately. If this was a HD problem, shouldn't I expereince the same problem no matter which user profile I log in with?
I have seen from previous posts that it is recommended I run an Etrecheck. So I have done this and will attach the result.
I should add that the HDDRIVE2GO was only plugged in in order to try to backup my iTunes library. Unfortunately the HD is only 250GBm and my library is bigger than that.
If anyone has a suggestion as to how I can use my Time Capsule for the back up that would be great. Even though I have reset it and plugged it into the ethernet slot, whenever I start the Airport Utility to set it up for back up through ethernet, airport utility tries to start but then shuts down.
Like I said, I did run an etrecheck and I have the result. It's 5 pages long, is there a way to add it without filling the description here with a 5 page list?
I hope someone will be able to help me out here, of course preferably without having to replce the HD.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • IMac i7 (Late 2009) extremly slow

    Hi,
I'm using an iMac i7 (Late 2009) with 6 GB Ram and the speed is not amazing at all!
When I use e.g. Parallels (2 GB Ram used by VM) and try to watch an 1080p video with VLC at the same time, the video often stops and is not running smooth.
The Activity Monitor shows, that 80% of the CPU is idle and 1 GB Ram is still free.
Also Safari often freezes and I see the annoying umbrella for about 30 sec.
I used some benchmark tools to see how my iMac competes with other i7 iMacs, and the results are in normal range. CPU, Ram and HD seems to work.
Already tried reinstalling OSX (10.6.5) with no luck.
What could be the cause of all this? Could it be a hardware problem?
    Thanks in advance

I had my pc reformatted two days ago  but prior to that I never had problems like this. playing streaming videos and games gives me extreme pain! especially watching videos on youtube, the video loads fast but it plays like in slow motion and almost frame by frame, so I waited for the video to load completely but when I played it, it's still the same it was annoyingly slow and the play buttonl sometimes is not responding! I install and reinstall the latest version of flash but nothing happened I used IE8 and Mozilla Firefox 3 but both have problems.... but when playing games and videos saved on my hard disk all is very much fine, it plays fast and no fuzz. I also noticed that  sites that uses flash also have lags and plays animations slow... I need help badly!
