Windows 8.1 Onboard Keyboard and Touchpad Stopped Working.

After upgrading to Win 8.1 my keyboard and touchpad stopped working suddenly.  They both worked fine for the entire Windows 8.0 release.  When I upgraded to 8.1, they both worked for about 3 months.  Then what started happening is the computer
would freeze during the startup process.
Now they both don't don't work.  But a USB powered mouse works.  So with a USB powered mouse and the on screen keyboard I have been troubleshooting.  I have removed the drivers from the device manager, reinstalled the drivers, searched for
driver updates etc.  Nothing works.
Can someone please point me in the right direction.  PC is kind of useless at the moment.

  • Keyboard and touchpad stop working

    Hi everyone.
I've used my HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC for about two months. Two days ago, while I was working, the keyboard and touchpad stopped responding so I couldn't do anything. The computer kept "working" though. The computer won't go into sleep-mode when I try that; it just fades out the screen and hangs. Since then, this has started happening at total random.
I've tried this across two installations of Vista Home, and have uninstalled/reinstalled device drivers. I noticed that whenever this happens, the laptop's fan accellerates to what seems like full blast, and keeps going like that until I force the power off.
I've tried unplugging the AC adapter and battery, holding the power switch to drain power from circuits and booting up again, both with AC only and battery only. Neither of these things helped.
Wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a similar problem? Very frustrating.

Have EXACT same problem! Only my keyboard and touch pad freeze up after I have let computer run without touching it for several minutes!
Have no problem if I continually use keys or touch pad!
Have extended power saver times to over 5 hours with no help!

  • Keyboard and touchpad not working

Good day My keyboard and touchpad stopped working all of a suuden, and I need help. My computer is Toshiba Satellite E55 A-5114, this has happened to me before but only the touchpad stopped working and it fixed whenever there was a system update, now I've updated the system and installed the recent drivers and still not working, any ideas?

There appears to be an epidemic. My guess is that a Windows update which changes a driver causes it.
So turn off automatic update and inspect them one-by-one. They are offered on the second Tuesday of each month.

I install only those marked Important or Critical. In particular, stay away from those which change a device's driver. Get driver updates only from Toshiba.

  • Keyboard and touchpad not working after Windows 10 update

after udating windows 10 on my probook 4440s keyboard and touchpad not working. if i press a key for 10seconds the key then shows up in the screen. and touchpad is worst. it freezes all the time barely moves. but with usb mouse it works fine

It's known that installing Windows from an external DVD drive on a Mid 2013 MacBook Air causes that the keyboard doesn't work after finishing the installation. The fix is to install Windows by using a USB drive. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4599

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Yosemite keyboard and trackpad stopped working, the only button that worked was the power button, only one USB port works.

    I have a Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
    Upgraded to Yosemite last week.
Three days ago I was using my Macbook Air for the first time since upgrading to Yosemite. I had been using my Macbook Air for approximately 30 minutes, I was using safari and the keyboard and trackpad stopped working (would not respond). The only button that worked was the power button.
I rebooted and they were still not working. I plugged in a USB mouse and external USB keyboard, only one USB port would work (the Left USB port if looking at the screen) so I had to swap between keyboard and mouse.
After logging in there is a bluetooth icon at the top of the screen with a sawtooth line through it. Bluetooth is unavailable and the bluetooth icon is missing from the system preferences menu.
If I run a hardware test by holding D (on USB keyboard) at startup it says that no problems are found and at the conclusion of the test the keyboard and trackpad start working again. When I log on the bluetooth is working again.
I shut down the Macbook Air and when I started it again the keyboard and trackpad and right side USB ports were all not working again. I logged in using the USB keyboard and mouse and the bluetooth not available sawtooth icon had returned.
I ran the hardware test again and at the conclusion of the test the trackpad and keyboard started working again.
I have tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and com.apple.Bluetooth.plist.lockfile from /Library/Preferences/ and tried resetting SMC and Power Functions but this did not fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is running a hardware test - obviously I don't want to do this every time I use the computer.
I do not believe any hardware is faulty/damaged - I think it has something to do with bluetooth/Yosemite.
I do not have the Macbook with me at the moment, if you have suggestions that I can try or additional checks/info you require please let me know and I can get back to you.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi!
I have exactly the same problem, and I can't find any solution.
I can't even track down the root of the problem: the Bluetooth/Wifi module? The trackpad? The keyboard/top case? The logicboard?
I've tried all the usual: SMC/PRAM reset, clean install, kext cache clearing.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

  • Starting problems, computer freezes, keyboard and mouse stop working

Hi can anyone help? My powerbook has just stopped working, rarely starts, when it does keyboard and mouse stop working after a while or even before i am able to login. At one point I was getting a grey screen with the words, memory access invalid???? Please help...
    powerbook G4

power surge could have damaged something inside, or it maybe unrelated to the problem.
PowerBook can get hot if there is some short circuit inside and power flow is disrupted, also it's possible that the fans are not working properly.
as a guess, it is likely either hard drive or logic board problem.

  • Laptop keyboard and touchpad not working in Windows 8.1

I just upgraded my S875-S7248 to Windows 8.1 last night. At first, everything seemed to be fine. However, this morning, the keyboard and touchpad had stopped working, and nothing I've tried has fixed it.  After some research, I figured out how to open the Device Manager, and the both devices are showning the infamous yellow triangle. When I click on the device, I see the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is imcomplete or damaged (Code 19)". Both devices are PS/2 devices, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device, and updating the driver, but to no avail. In addition, I've run the Toshiba Service Station driver update, but it doesn't retrun any new updates either.
So, short of unstalling Windows 8, what can I do to fix this?
    Solved!

    Hi rmikereese
I had the same issue - but luckily you dont have to uninstall Windows 8 (at least I didn't need to)
Running a system restore should bring your computer before you installed the "critical updates" from Toshiba.  Fortunately I had a usb mouse already installed (because like you, my touchpad was also not working)
    1.  Restart Computer and Sign In
Note: I had to use the on-screen keyboard option found on the Ease of Access found at the bottom left of the screen
    2.  Right Click on "My Computer" (aka "Computer" aka "This PC") and click on Properties
    3.  Click on System Protection (3rd option on the left menu)
At this point a new System Properties window will pop up already on a System Protection tab
    4.  Click System Restore...
    5.  Choose restore point --> I had an option for "Windows Update" which was a "Critical Update"
My computer reset the registry and my touchpad and keyboard began working again!
When Toshiba tells you that you have Updates (Toshiba Support Driver)  IGNORE IT!
    Hope this works for you!

  • Macbook air with 10.10.1 keyboard and touchpad stop responding after login screen

Keyboard and touchpad works only at login screen.
I have tried all the PRAM and SMC. reset stuff.
Safe mode, repair etc. Creating another account is not helped either.
I am also using 10.10.1 with macbook air.
I have also called the apple tech support and no results!
And this is obviously a software bug from so called robust yosemite!
    Same here!
Macbook air built-in keyboard/trackpad only work at login screen

You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • Blackberry Curve 8520 keyboard and trackpad stopped working suddenly!

This morning when I was texting on my blackberry I noticed when I was pressing the s button it would press the a button as well. Now for some reason, the a button, which is also the lock button stopped working. I switched my phone off and took out the battery, switched it back on and now it won't light up unless I am pressing all the keys repetitively for about a minute or two. Sometimes when I do get it to light up, it won't let me select anything. Does anyone know how this can be fixed? Its definitely not water damaged and it's out of warranty (I just bought it a week ago from family believe it or not!) Thanks.

  • HELP:  Keyboard and Mouse stop working

I plugged a 4GB flashdrive into keyboard; received low power notification; plugged it into computer instead; it loaded on desktop, HOWEVER, keyboard and mouse no longer work - shut down computer for 5 minutes, still not working, unplugged and replugged in connections; removed flashdrive, shut computer off for 30 minutes; still does not work. The only positive thing, I have a laptop so I can ask this question. All the files I need are on the other computer, however. HELP

Hello! If the usb ports tripped out you'll have to reset the pmu. With all the external cables (usb/firewwire/monitor/a/c etc) unhooked press the pmu button once then reconnect and restart. Below are a couple of example of the pmu location. Tom

  • Satellite 5200-802: Keyboard and touchpad dont work

    Hi everyone.
I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I'm having with my Satellite 5200-802. The Keyboard will not work evn though it shows in device manager and report it as working fine. I have updated the BIOS and tried a lot of other basic stuff so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
It may be worth mentioning that I also cannot get my touchpad driver to register.
    Many thanks.

    Hi
Do you get an error message or do you have any bed signs on the screen?
Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS?
If yes then the keyboard was recognized and works!
If you cannot use the keyboard running OS then I would recommend to delete the keyboard device from the device manager and to restart the notebook.
After new OS reboot the keyboard should be recognized again.
But I think that you will be not able to access the BIOS.
Due to the fact that the touchpad does not work too, I presume the hardware is faulty or there is no connection to the motherboard. Maybe a lose cable
Maybe you should check this. But note; if you have no experience contact the notebook technicians. Bye

  • Installed PSE12 on Windows 8. Both organiser and editor stopped working after files were imported.

After uninstalling PSE12 and several other Adobe files and some Adobe folders that had itunes items in them I got Pse12 to open.
However it stated that my trial period had expired even tough I never installed a trial version and only had installed the full version the previous day.
When this was double clicked i got organiser to open but still cant get editor to open.
    Any suggestions?

  • Windows 8.1 install crashed my keyboard and touchpad

I attempted to install 8.1 last night having forgotten about the warnings. Had the black screen of death this morning. After rebooting Windows reverted to 8.0. But now my keyboard and touchpad arent working.  Says the ps2 compatible drivers arent
working. Every reboot and driver update I try does nothing. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    keyboard and touchpad arent working.
Sounds like a laptop?  Which model?  Is there any alternate input you can use?  Touch?  USB for wired or wireless?
Can you at least use your keyboard when booting?  E.g. get into the Command only boot?

  • Mbp '11 : windows ejects keyboard and touchpad when safely removing flash drive

If i connect a flash drive or an external hard drive, Windows will eject the keyboard and touchpad when "Safely Removing" any connected USB device, whether it be a printer, flash drive, or anything connected to a USB port.
As a temporary workaround, i either connect an external USB keyboard & mouse and restart windows, or set the power button to shutdown and restart windows.
    any way to fix this?

I don't get that with OS X, the light stays
on at full capacity, i.e., it doesn't even dim, and
it makes me feel that this is something that might
call for a 'fix' in OS X.
when you insert the drive it "mounts" to the desktop, right? in other words you can see it on the desktop?
as everyone else suggested, drag it to the trash to eject it, or do it using the finder. once you no longer see it mounted to the desktop, it is safe to remove it, light or no light.
i have usb/firewire drives which i made using internal drives and enclosures with power buttons that remain powered up once i dismount the drives. i eject them and zap the power once i finish using them, if i don't want to listen to the enclosure fans. in a nutshell, it's not OS X related that the light doesn't go out because it doesn't perform like the other OS, nor does it attempt to emulate it; they go about performing tasks quite diffently and OS X is much better ; ))
