Windows 8.1: Printer Offline Issue

Windows 8.1: Printer Offline Issue
If you have seen issues where your laptops/tablets has been taken from a private (home) network to a public network  and then not been able to print when returning back to your private (home) network.  This is most likely due to the public network settings not being reset back to the private (home) network settings.  If this sounds like an issue you are having- try resetting your network settings by following the steps in the documents linked here:
For Ink Printers, please visit this document to help resolve your issue:
Print Jobs are Stuck in Queue
For LaserJets, please visit this document to help resolve your issue:
HP Laserjet - Printer offline and unable to print on a network in Windows 8.1
Install this Microsoft patch to make sure this private-public-private network issue does not reoccur. It is part of the April 2014 Windows Update package for Windows 8.1 and Server2012 R2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355).
If you experience this issue before you apply the patch, you must manually reset your network settings for this patch to function. Please refer to the above documents for manual reset help.

Hello All,
The printer goes offline due to proper driver is not installed correctly or if the printer port is not selected correctly.
I would suggest that you check the printer port (if the printer is connected via USB then chck if you have selected USB001,002... OR DOT), if the printer is connected via Network then check if the printer is selected via TCP/IP and then check the results.
Alternatively, you may uninstall and reinstall the driver and then check the results.

  • Windows 8.1: Printer Offline Issue - POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Hi all - I came across this extremely annoying problem between my Toshiba Win-spit-dows 8.1 (shudder) laptop and my HP 71197B Photosmart 5510.
    a) I found out my printer ip using Fing on my mobile - use any method to find this out.
    b) I typed this into my browser and loaded the web interface
    c) Using a video from the HP site I easily switch to a Static IP.
    d) I then found the printer settings/Properties and clicked on Ports
    e) I then added a new port - the printer was on WDP or something.
    f) I used the new static ip (again found this from Fing) as the address and called it HP Printer.
    g) The laptop found the printer and got all the details
    h) Word then showed the Printer online.....print!
    i) Got a print faded document because all the black had been used up doing test prints.... but it ruddy prints!!!!
    Hope this helps someone!
    Frank

  • Printer offline issues

    Hi all,
3.4 GHz iMac running 10.6.8.  Software update current.
Epson NX430 (new) connected via wifi.  All installation, including downloading the current drivers from Epson, went smoothly.  Printing and scanning wirelessly does indeed work.  But...
After a while, the printer, or the Mac printing system, sends the printer "offline."  When I send a document to the printer, I get a warning icon from the print monitor, and the NX430 print monitor window says "Looking for printer.... printer offline."
The quick fix for this is to power cycle the printer (obviously a pain).  Interestingly, this was the same issue I had with the HP Photosmart 4400 device that the Epson replaced. That HP printer was hooked up via USB, but didn't scan except to PCs, so the switch was to fix that and hopefully also fix the printer offline issue at the same time. But this experience leads me to think that the problem is with the OS, and not the printer.
Other things I have tried:  Restarting the iMac.  Deleting and re-adding printer.  Resetting the printing system (this worked for a few days, I think, although it is hard to be sure of cause and effect). Checking the network connections -- printer and gateway IP addresses are correct, and even when getting the printer offline message, I can successfully ping the printer.
One more thing.  When the system is in this "printer offline" state, trying to activate either the printer utility, or check supply levels, results in an error message, even though I have verified network connectivity with a ping test.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

With the ping getting a response from the printer it would suggest that the symptom is not network related but more to do with the supporting software, or more so with the protocols it uses to communicate with the printer. I would guess that the printer supports Bonjour and you would have added the printer by opening the Default Add Printer view and selecting the printer that was shown in this view. If this was the case then a suggestion would be to look at using an alternate protocol for the print queue, providing the printer does support such an option. If you can check the network settings for the printer there may be the option to use/enable print protocols such as LPR. With this active, the printer can be added using IP > LPD. This requires you to enter the IP address of the printer and then browse for the printer driver.
If such an option to use an alternate print protocol does not exist then something else you can test when the printer goes offline is the scanning. Does this also fail?
And can you confirm? You said you had to power cycle the HP to get it working again. Do you have to do the same with the Epson to get it printing again?

  • Windows 2008 R2 - Printer "Offline" SNMP issue.

    The issue:
Not unique from what I have read in these forums and elsewhere around the globe.  But essentially, I have printers that go "offline" and only come back into life if I disable SNMP per printer port and therefore lose any "real" status messages.
    Some Environmental Information:
    - The printers and the print server are on the same logical subnet
    - There is no filtering/Firewall between the printers and the print server and not relevant given they are on the same logical subnet.
    - The firewall is disabled on the Print Server
    - The SNMP community string(s) configured on the printer matches that of the print server port
    - The manufacturing model of the printer varies.  Various print vendor makes and models, of the 5-6 affected devices, all of them are different.
The following information relates to the newest printer a Ricoh Aficio MP C4501, manufactured and released in 2011 which is one of the models that has the issue
    - The Printer's NIC firmware is up to date (applied myself as I work for this particular print vendor) and is fully compliant with SNMP V1, V2 and V3 and supports all relevant MIBs
    - When the issue occurs, I can access the printer's web configuration page
    - When the issue occurs, I can ping the printer device showing "offline" on the print server
    - When the issue occurs, I can interrogate the printer device using an SNMP browser (many different types) on SNMP V1, V2 and V3 without issue
    - When the issue occurs, I can monitor the device and get detailed status updates using SNMP V1, V2 and V3 in the print vendors own device management application as well as Spiceworks without issue
    Note:
I am quite confident that there is not a communication issue with SNMP to/from the device.
I am quite confident that there is not an issue with the printers NIC in terms of firmware
I can get around this by disabling SNMP per port, but this is _NOT_ a fix because "actual" status' other than "online" are never reported.
    Summary:
I'm going out on a limb here and suspecting that the root cause is not the device, firmware or print driver, but in fact something within Windows Server Print Subsystem.  To that end and given there has been a huge amount of discussion on this issue,
is there any progress or even acknowledgement that this _MIGHT_ be a problem that Microsoft need to address?
--------------------------- ASE, CNE, CCNP, CLP, MCSE --------------------------

    Hi Alan,
Lately I experienced this "printer-offline-problem" on my
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1 . I found this thread on the internet and probably tried out everthing mentioned here. But nothing helped in my case. When I deleted and recreated this printer, it was in status Ready and was working as
long there was no restart of the print spooler service. Then it switched to offline and stopped working.
So I did open a support case at Microsoft as recommended by you.
It didn't help to install the latest hot fixes or to delete third party language monitors from the registry. What did help, I found out two weeks ago and I want to share it here for other people having the same problem.
    1. Delete the "Offline"-printer and its port.
    2. Search the Registry for the printer name. You might find these keys:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\***problemprinter***]
    "PrinterOnLine"=dword:00000000
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Hardware Profiles\Current\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\***problemprinter***]"PrinterOnLine"=dword:00000000
    3. Recreate this printer - done!
    4. Test it by restarting the print spooler service - if you like.
If you cannot delete the printer, because you don't want to lose the print jobs in the queue, try to find the above mentioned registry keys and delete them. Then restart the print spooler service. The printer will
switch to Ready and start printing.
Microsoft then confirmed they have comparable cases like this in their database, but no information why there are these registry keys and why they arouse this problem.

  • Windows 8.1 Printer Offline

I have a HP ENVY 5531 All-In-One printer setup via Wireless and ever since I started using Windows 8.1 I cannot print and it says the printer is offline.  If I want to print a file I either have to sent it to my phone, or to another computer that is using Windows XP Pro.  It is only Windows 8.1 machines that says the printer is offline, if I want to print from Windows 8.1 machines I have to reinstall the drivers and restart the printer every time I print something.
Does anyone know of a solution that will allow me to print from Windows 8.1?
I have tried everything found in the this troubleshooting page.

Hi Demon4231, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing print issues.  I would like to help.
I would first suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would then recommend putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
After the clean boot, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Windows 8/8.1: Printer Offline Problems

    Windows 8/8.1: Printer Offline Problems
Are you getting an error that your network or wireless printer is offline when you try to print?
When you print to your network printer, does it fail, and when you check the printer status it says Offline?
Do you have problems printing to your wireless printer after your PC has been asleep?
If you answered YES to any of the above questions, then you have a problem with your network printer being offline.  After some investigation into this problem, we recommend updating windows.  Run Windows update to check that your version of Windows 8 is up to date.
There are a few windows updates that may help with this problem
    1)    Install this Microsoft patch to make sure this private-public-private network issue does not reoccur. It is part of the April 2014 Windows Update package for Windows 8.1 and Server2012 R2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355).
    2)      Install this Microsoft patch for the WSD service.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3000461
If this does not help, then please follow the steps list below which will give you a Workaround that may help with this problem.
Assign the printer a static IP address
An IP address is an Internet network address that the computer can use to communicate with the printer. Enter a static IP address to make sure that the wireless connection remains stable. Follow these steps to assign the printer a static IP address.
    Get the printer IP address.
Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel to view the network settings.
Access the Network menu on the printer control panel.
Print a Network Configuration Page or Wireless Test Report page.
Once you have the printer's IP address, open a new web browser window or tab.
Type the IP address in your web browser's address bar, and then press Enter.
Make sure that you type the IP address into the browser's address box. If you type it into a tool bar search box, the EWS will not open.
If the message 'There is a problem with this website's security certificate' appears in the web browser when you try to open the embedded web server (EWS), or when you navigate within the EWS, click ' Continue to this website (not recommended)'.
     note:
Choosing 'Continue to this website (not recommended)' will not harm your computer while you navigate within the EWS for your printer. If you encounter this error outside of your printer's EWS, your computer could be at risk.
If the browser fails to open the EWS after you click 'Continue to this website (not recommended)', refresh the browser window.
The Embedded Web Server (EWS) for the printer opens and confirms that the printer is on the same network as the computer.
In the EWS, click the Network tab.
In the Wireless section, click the Network Address (IP) or IPv6 configuration, depending on your network setup.
Click Manual IP, and then click Suggest a Manual IP Address. A manual IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway displays.
After the manual IP address populates, click Manual DNS Server.
     note:
Keep a record of the manual IP address for reference.
On the Network Configuration Page you printed earlier, locate the DNS Server addresses, type the DNS addresses in the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields, and then click Apply.
If the DNS addresses are not listed on the Network Configuration Page, or if you have trouble accessing the network or Internet with the original DNS addresses, use one of the following methods to obtain DNS addresses.
Method one: Use publicly available DNS server addresses
Configure the printer using publicly available DNS server addresses. To find available DNS server addresses, search online for 'public DNS servers'.
After you find public DNS server addresses, type the addresses in the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields, and then click Apply.
Method two: Get the network DNS information via your computer
Select your operating system, and then use the following directions to obtain the DNS server addresses.
Right-click the Start button () or the lower left corner of the screen, click Run, type cmd, and then press Enter.
When the command window opens, type ipconfig /all, and then press Enter. Information about the computer's network displays.
Scroll to and locate the DNS Server addresses.
In the EWS, type the DNS addresses in the Manual Preferred DNS Server and Manual Alternate DNS Server fields, and then click Apply.
Print a test page to make sure that the printer's IP address is the same as you assigned.
Right-click the Start button () or the lower left corner of the screen, click Search, type HP and click your printer in the results. Click Utilities, and then click Update IP address to update the address in the software.
Adding a Wireless Network Printer using Control Panel
Go to Control Panel and choose Devices and Printers
    Click on Add Printer
The PC will search the local network and display the network printers.
Choose the printer and select Next
The system will then try and auto select a compatible driver
Select the current driver and Click Next
The system will then ask for a name for the printer. The user can change the name and then click Next
The User can then choose to share the printer
The user can select to make this new printer the default and then click Finish.
The new printer is now setup but this printer may be using the In OS driver (Class) rather than the HP Full Function driver.
To change the printer to use the HP Full Function driver follow the following instructions. I would recommend changing the driver to the HP Full Function driver as the User can then use features such as Custom paper sizes.
Go back into Control Panel and choose devices and Printers, right click on the newly created printer and choose Printer Properties
    Choose the Advanced Tab
Click on the driver section drop down and choose the Driver for the printer that does not have the words Class driver after it.
Click apply and then OK and the driver will be changed to the HP Full Function driver for the printer.
The user should try this configuration and see if they still experience problems.
    Please Note:
DO NOT Remove the Original Printer Icon from Devices and Printers as the HP Printer Assistant will stop working.
    JonW
    I work for HP

I have the printer offline problem. It started when I ran out of toner. I have now installed a new toner cartridge.
Your solution does not help me because I have tried to install Win8.1 and it failed.
I would just reinstall my printer but I have a long list of items in my print queque and I don't want to lose them.
    Is there another solution?
Or is there a way I can save the print queue?

  • HP LaserJet P1102w - printer offline - Windows Vista ??

We have a new HP printer LaserJet P1102w and my laptop has Windows Vista.  I am unable to print - message is always "printer offline" - can anyone assist with how to fix this issue.  I would appreciate any help - we are totally unable to use this pirnter.  Thanks!

    Hello,
According to the information you provided, it is really difficult to diagnostic the issue. But there are several things may good for you to check:
    1. Did the printer work before? If yes, you may seeking what' the difference may lead to this offline issue.
    2. How do you connect P1102w to your PC? I suggest that you use USB connection to test
    3. If you connect it via wireless, could you double check whether the router working fine?
    4. Please make sure the printer is power on and connected to the PC successfully, otherwise "offline" is the accurate status for it.
    Hope it helps.

  • HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

    Hello,
For some time now I have been unable to scan or print from my desktop (Windows 7 Professional 64bit) and I have exhausted too much effort and am now bringing it to the masses.
    The problem:
Printing:  Currently receiving an "Error - Offline" message in my printer queue at all times.
Scanning:  Scanning has never fully worked on this desktop. I am always unable to communicate with the printer. (Though webscan works through accessing the printers IP address)
    Things I have tried:
Ran HPPSDr, followed directions (Unpluged power to printer, turn back on, restart computer) brings me to this website after it cannot fix. (Note that while the HPPSDr is running it always notions that there is a driver problem)
Uninstalled Drivers from CD-ROM, re-installed, countless times
Installed "Windows 7 Pro 64 bit drivers" from the HP website and uninstalled, countless times.
Attempted to set a static IP and use "Update IP Address" to point specifically at the printers IP.
Installed Drivers and finding the printer myself through it's own static IP address.
Turned off firewall and attempted to print (after reboot), same errors
Setting up the printer on all of my laptops (3) wirelessly to attempt to find if there is a problem with the printer or static IP. (1 is Windows VISTA 32bit and the other 2 are Ubuntu 32bit). All laptops are able to use the printer wirelessly without any problems.
Read all of the forums about this issue and attempted all of the 'solutions'. Although I mostly don't see that anyone with this same problem is resolved, unless I'm missing the perfect post.
    Things I have not tried:
Plugging the USB directly into the desktop. (This seems self defeating as the purpose for this printer was to be able to print wirelessly to it from across the room)
Re-installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Trying to avoid this, would rather just print from laptops)
    You tell me
    Curiosities:
I have noticed strange things that make me believe the driver is somehow incomptable with my OS. Here is a shot of the properties of the printer:
Weird that it is not recognizing the model number.
Also in the Printer Settings when I go to the port tab, there is no port selected, if I try and tab away it forces me to select a port, yet when I do and 'apply' and then re-open the Printer Settings in the ports tab; it has again unselected the previously selected port.
    Theories:
I feel like my OS is just refusing to notice the IP address for the wireless printer, no matter what I have it set to, even if it's dynamic. It's like the driver for Windows 7 Pro 64bit is actually not the correct driver for my system.
Anyways, another thing to mention is that I am not currently willing to wipe my operating system and re-install Windows 7 Pro in order to resolve this just yet. I want to see if anyone else has any other avenues I can try before even beginning to consider that.
Anyways, thanks in advance for taking the time to read my ramblings and hopefully someone who has resolved this issue can help me.

    Hi Zerosouls,
I understand you are having an issue with HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
First try to click the Windows icon, type services in the Search box, and then click or tap View Local Services. Scroll down to the Windows Installer. Startup type should be - Automatic, and Service Status should be - started
Restart the computer after this step and try installing Hp Officejet 6600 again.
Please let me know what happens

  • Missing/partial prints & Printer Offline on Windows 8/8.1

    Hello fellow community members! I have come across an issue with some HP printers and the Windows 8 /8.1 Operating System. Below are some common issues the troubleshooting steps in this Thread will cover;
     Printer Offline
Printer does not print multi page documentsPrinter will Print a test page, but not sent documentsPrinter stops printing in the middle of a print jobWith the help from JonW and his instructions, I wanted to compile a post for this issue starting with a functional work around. Firstly - There are a few windows updates that may help with this problem. 1)    Install this Microsoft patch to make sure this private-public-private network issue does not reoccur. It is part of the April 2014 Windows Update package for Windows 8.1 and Server2012 R2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355). 2)      Install this Microsoft patch for the WSD service.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3000461 If this does not help, then please follow the steps list below which will give you a Workaround that may help with this problem. Assign the printer a static IP address An IP address is an Internet network address that the computer can use to communicate with the printer. Enter a static IP address to make sure that the wireless connection remains stable. Follow these steps to assign the printer a static IP address.Get the printer IP address.Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel to view the network settings.Access the Network menu on the printer control panel.Print a Network Configuration Page or Wireless Test Report page.Once you have the printer's IP address, open a new web browser window or tab.Type the IP address in your web browser's address bar, and then press Enter.Make sure that you type the IP address into the browser's address box. If you type it into a tool bar search box, the EWS will not open.If the message 'There is a problem with this website's security certificate' appears in the web browser when you try to open the embedded web server (EWS), or when you navigate within the EWS, click ' Continue to this website (not recommended)'. note:Choosing ' Continue to this website (not recommended)' will not harm your computer while you navigate within the EWS for your printer. If you encounter this error outside of your printer's EWS, your computer could be at risk. If the browser fails to open the EWS after you click ' Continue to this website (not recommended)', refresh the browser window. The Embedded Web Server (EWS) for the printer opens and confirms that the printer is on the same network as the computer. In the EWS, click the Network tab.In the Wireless section, click the Network Address (IP) or IPv6 configuration, depending on your network setup.Click Manual IP, and then click Suggest a Manual IP Address. A manual IP address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway displays. After the manual IP address populates, click Manual DNS Server. note:Keep a record of the manual IP address for reference. Method one: Use publicly available DNS server addressesConfigure the printer using publicly available DNS server addresses. I would recommend changing the driver to the HP Full Function driver as the User can then use features such as Custom paper sizes.Go back into Control Panel and choose devices and Printers, right click on the newly created printer and choose Printer Properties      Choose the Advanced Tab      Click on the driver section drop down and choose the Driver for the printer that does not have the words Class driver after it.       Click apply and then OK and the driver will be changed to the HP Full Function driver for the printer. The user should try this configuration and see if they still experience problems. Printing should not be an issue any more. Please let me know your feed back and if these steps helped. Best of luck and happy printing. Cheers,

How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?  Running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.
