Windows 8.1 pro activation
sir i have installed windows 8.1 pro 32-bit ..
during the activation it showing error 0x800726c
how to solve this error and how to activate windows..........??
Hi,
How did you activate? Was your License volume license?
Volume License media defaults to using a KMS client which will query DNS to locate a KMS host. If you have not setup a KMS host, you may get this error.
If you are simply trying to activate without a KMS host, you need to change your product key to one supplied per your VL program.
Otherwise, Please read the below article to troubleshoot:
Why can't I activate Windows?

Windows 8.1 Pro Activation Error Code: 0xC004C003
I bought a HP Desktop - 110-a04 last month and registered with HP but last week I realized that my Windows 8.1 Pro is not activated yet. When I tried to activate the Windows it gives me an error which is "The activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked, Error Code : 0xC004C003.
Secondly, I want to downgrade my OS to Windows 7. Where can I find the step by step procedure?
Would appreciate if someone can advise how to fix this?Hello @SIKhan,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you are looking to downgrade your operating system to Windows 7, and that your system indicates that your installed OS is not activated. I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since your computer only has supported software for Windows 8.1, I do not recommend downgrading to an older version of Windows. Alternatively, you can ensure your installed version of operating system is activated by following the steps in this documnent on Windows 8 Product Activation.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

is what a lot of moderators seem to post.

</DiagReport>I've personally used this solution (slui 3) to reenter a key when activation wasn't working, but we use MAK, not KMS, so YMMV. I think it may depend on exactly where in the chain things are going wrong.
This is an interesting bit from the link britishdhez posted (these are possible causes of this error message):
DNS record not published at _VLMCS._tcp.client.domain. This must be an SRV record, which the KMS server will automatically register. If you have disabled this, you will need to use a GPO on the clients to point them to the correct KMS server to use
No network connectivity from the KMS client to the MS server on the KMS port (tcp/1688 by default). Install telnet on the client and run telnet KMS.Server.Name 1688 and make sure the screen goes blank
Not more than 4 hours time difference between KMS server and client. Check that your time zones are correct. If using server core, run timedate.cpl
No major hardware changes to the KMS server. If the KMS server is a VM and you have added a number of new devices, CPUs, memory etc, or P2Ved you will need to reactivate your KMS license
The KMS service must have the keys to issue for the KMS client requesting a license. For example, if the KMS server is Windows Server 2008 and you are trying to activate Windows 7, you will need an update installed on the KMS server AND the correct KMS
key for Windows 7."
Also, I know you said no KB articles, but for completeness sake (for folks reading this at a later date who may be troubleshooting):
When trying to activate you get 0xC004F074 with description "The Key Management Server (KMS) is unavailable" - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974998/en-us -
Windows 8.1 Pro activation with Windows 8 product key
I know there are a few discussions going around on here and various other forums about this topic but I am completely stuck.
I have a valid Windows 8 Pro (64bit) product key. I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1, not thinking too much about how my product key would be affected - after all, it's all the same major version of Windows right?
So I fresh installed, the product key error message came up and I got on the phone to Microsoft and tried to enter that 9-10 part massive activation key thing and got error messaged and then hung up on multiple times. I put this down to bad phone reception.
I went ahead and re-installed all of my apps and configured everything to how I like it.
This afternoon I again jumped on the phone to Microsoft and talked to a real person. He told me that I cannot use my 8.0 key with 8.1. Fair enough, I had a feeling this was coming. I asked for a way around this and he told me to reformat, install windows
8 and then upgrade to windows 8.1.
Seriously guys? wtf.
Does anyone know of a way around this, or if there WILL be a way around this in the near future? I'm not wasting another day backing up, re-formatting and re-installing everything onto my computer again just to upgrade and use my key that SHOULD work on
the same major version of an O/S.
RohanMilos, I have had time to look at your link but come up empty handed. I had previously tried this approach and kept getting the same "this key didn't work, please check it and try again, or try a different key" error message.
I used one of the generic keys during the install phase in the hope of doing this method but it hasn't worked out.
Do you have any other ideas? -
Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.
I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
-Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
-WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
-WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
The following steps were used:
1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
6. Create media as detailed here;
7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
Questions:
1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.EvanTPE550 wrote:
"Is a Win 7 32 virtual client an option?"
What VC are you using?
I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed. Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs. VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try. Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

Md. Ramin HossainHi,
I think that this is possible, after installing you can try to change key in PC Settings or in case when this will be not possible you can use slmgr.vbs.
To change product key: slmgr /ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
To activate slmgr /ato

Activation from Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro
I generally use Windows 7 Home Premium in my Acer 4738Z and my old Acer is broken.
so I buy a new Acer E1-410 (and bla-bla in a nutshell) my new Acer E1-410 can't use Windows 7 it must uses
UEFI system (in my previous post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/0da6bd1f-ee2c-45c1-91cf-1f1d9d0595f5/how-to-install-windows-7-home-premium-32bit-with-no-legacy-option-in-bios-setting-just-uefi-in?forum=w7itproinstall#cb3f8d18-3d61-41de-8ba3-9eaef87f5849)
So I WRONG ? To buy Windows 8 Pro Upgradeable Only (and before you announce Windows 8.1 Pro)
But FINALLY I can install my new Acer E1-410 in Windows 7 Home Premium (with flash bios to active thier Legacy IDE Boot) and UPGRADE to Windows 8 Pro. (FINISH).
I already ask Microsoft Indonesia by phone to check my product key on windows 8 Pro genuine they said yes it's "only upgradeable" and YES it is genuine.
and finally these my problem:
They said to I CAN FREELY Upgrade to Windows 8.1 by Microsoft Store
so I wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro to why not ?? You give me free :) ,...
But without any knowledge how to that (My Windows Store doesn't have store icon
to Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro).
So I google2xxxx how to UPGRADE to Windows 8.1 Pro
finally I desperate and I download Windows 8.1 Pro ISO (maybe/must be pirate one) from torrent
and fresh/clean install to Windows 8.1 Pro (WITHOUT UPGRADE form Windows 7.1 -> Windows 8 Pro)
OFCOURSE !!! I KNOW IT CAN'T BE ACTIVATE with my older Windows 8 Pro Product Key
So i ask you :
1. What are the disadvantages if I NOT activated my Windows 8.1 Pro ?
2. It's true i can uses all application (on desktop) without any disadvantages ?Hi,
There are many limitations when the windows is not activated, for example, personalization settings section is disabled as below:
The disabled settings include:
•Your lock screen wallpaper and apps
•Start Screen color and background
•Your account picture
You need to activate Windows before you can personalize your PC and every couple of hours, you'll see a full-screen activation request:
The application is available to use, but I suggest to run the genuine Windows and activate it, because it is legally protected.

Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center - Problems with Activation
Hello.
I was one of those who tried Windows 8 early and got a Windows Media Center key for free.
Today through Dreamspark Premium I got a Windows 8.1 key.
I normally used my new Windows 8.1 key and Windows 8.1 were activated successfully and because I remembered I had a Windows Media Center into my e-mail archive folder I used it in "Add features to Windows 8".
Windows accepted the key, added Windows Media Center and rebooted.
After the reboot, Windows 8.1 got deactivated and it won't accept my genuine Windows 8.1 Pro key.
I do not wish to format my pc or re-install everything . I just want to activate my Windows 8.1.
I do not care about Windows Media Center, I just want to activate them with my genuine key.Hi,
Based on the current situation, I would like to suggest you to contact Microsoft Product Activation Center by telephone to verify the product key and activate your system.
To start the Product Activation Wizard, follow these steps:
1. At the Start screen, swipe in from the right side, or hover your mouse in the upper-right corner of the screen to display the charms menu.
2. Tap or click the Settings charm.
3. Tap or click Change PC Settings.
4. If your PC is not activated, PC Settings will provide instructions that are customized to your activation error. If telephone support can provide help for your error, tap or click the appropriate link, which may resemble one of the
following:
a. Activate
b. Activate by phone
c. Contact customer support for help
For the detail information, refer to the following link:

Downgrading Windows 8.1 pro back to windows 8.1 regular
okay so my friend sent me a code for Windows 8.1 pro (I already had windows 8.1 but I thought I'd use it so I could try out hyper-v) and it all worked perfectly, apart from the fact that the code was only an activator code and now I need to enter another
code to get it to stop asking me to activate it, I'd be happy going back to windows 8.1 non-pro version but I just really need it to stop asking me to put in a code as it gets very frustrating while I am doing this on my pc. I know I shouldn't have used the
code without asking my friend if it worked properly or not but I just need to know if there is a way to downgrade back to what I used to have, thanks for the help!
I should also say that I am on a laptop that came with windows 8 already installed and have no product key for my original versionHi,
Let make clear something.
Was the Windows 8.1 pro or Enterprise 64 bit on your computer?
Hyper-V is only available in the following versions of Windows:
• Windows 8 Pro 64-bit Edition
• Windows 8 Enterprise 64-bit Edition
• Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit Edition
• Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit Edition
If your laptop came with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, how did you enable Hyper-V?
Please don't use the shared key with others. The key is the unique license for one copy of Windows.
Meanwhile, please reset or refresh your PC to roll back to Windows 8 If you upgraded your PC from
Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a
Windows 8 recovery partition.

Unable to upgrade or install windows 10 enterprise technical preview from windows 8.1 pro
Compaq Presario SR2034NX
windows 8.1 pro build 9600 64 bit, x64processor
I have attempted a clean install booting from a burned dvd with the iso file on it using the windows 7 USB/DVD download tool, Ive attempted to boot from a usb using rufus. Ive even attempted to just run as administrator right from the download
the setup file.
Installing via USB windows 10 opens the language screen but everything on my screen is distorted, ive tried to change my screen resolution to fix this. it did not work. Once I managed to click my way to the next screen but windows 10 asked me
for a driver to be installed and I have no idea what driver that could be.
Installed via DVD and direct setup file windows 10 opens to the making sure your pc is updated.. then it downloads and says its installing. at the moment it finished installing and restarts the next screen is black and the windows wheel starts turning
it freezes.. about every minute to five minutes it will turn a bit more.. I left my pc in this state for a full 24hours without touching it and it never finished installing.
I have tried several different builds. I even downloaded bluestacks and ran windows 10 enterprise technical preview as a virtual and I was successful doing it this way but Ive already tested windows 10 on two other desktops and a laptop of mine and im ready
to make the switch. this is my last desktop to run windows 10 and its giving me a hard time.
can someone please help me figure this outHi Metro1952,
I found the following link indicates that there is no official driver designed for Windows 8 or later:
Compaq Presario Media Center SR2034NX Desktop PC
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-Presario-SR2000-Desktop-PC-series/3239110/model/3250934
So, there might be a compatibility issue.
Again, to prepare the USB installation, you need ensure that you boot from the USB device, I suggest you make a clean USB boot drive by using diskpart:
DISKPART> list disk
DISKPART> select disk x (x is the USB drive letter)
DISKPART> clean
DISKPART> create partition primary
DISKPART> select partition 1
DISKPART> active
DISKPART> format FS=NTFS QUICK
DISKPART> assign
DISKPART> exit
Then copy the all installation files to the root of the USB drive:

We got two new PCs, one with windows 7 and the other with windows 8.1 Pro. In the same network with domain, the windows 7 pc has no problem at all to join the domain. However the windows 8.1 Pro won't join the domain. On the windows 8.1 Pro computer,
I can ping the other computers in the network. The error message says:
An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "cmi" could not be contacted. ...
In my case, the domain name is "CMI". I am sure the DNS setting is correct. What did I do wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.I tried the solution in that article.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters folder, there is no

The domain name "cmi" might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.
If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS configuration.
DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain "cmi":
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.cmi
The following domain controllers were identified by the query:
cmi-dc2.cmi
cmi-dc1.cmi
However no domain controllers could be contacted.

Windows 8.1 Pro Final (6.3.9600)
Have a clean installation of Windows 8.1 Pro final (volume) since released date. Meanwhile until now it still cannot activated via KMS server perhaps not injected yet, online activation also not work. Current license status is "notification". Is
this will still available and if have expiry, until when? Any article mention this?
As noticed that preview version will expired by 15th Jan 2014
manggar77hi don,
thanks. but what i wan't to know is before
8.1 pro activated, how long it can be used?

if it is a VL channel product, you are required by the terms of the license to activate it.
For VL channel products, there are some functional limitations and informational warnings and reminders applied if the product is not activated, but there is no other impact.
Evaluation channel product will periodically shut down. VL channel product will not shut down.
Regardless of the channel (OEM, Retail, VL, Eval) the license terms require that you activate.
MSDN and TechNet, which are for evaluation and/or development, generally the advice is not to activate if you will commence and conclude your evaluation/development in a short period.
This aspect is not documented in any license terms that I've ever found.
(edit: I found it documented here, as up to 120 days)
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd981009.aspx
(Note that this is written for Win7/WS2008R2, and Win8/WS2012 may be different)
(there is also a description of the behaviour if not activated, and grace period expires)
(Also note that this is a white paper, not a license agreement)
So, if you are asking "what am I permitted to do?", the answer is, to comply with the license terms, you are required to activate.
If you are asking "what is the technical or user experience if I do not activate?", this depends upon the channel of the media you used.
Does this help? Or have I misunderstood your question?
Don

Windows 8.1 pro pptp vpn does not show disconnect option
I just installed Windows 8.1 PRO on my PC.
Formatted it, installed right from scratch.
Once I created my login, I then created a connection to my office VPN server.
Office VPN server is a ISA server which allows PPTP based VPN.
Well, I am able to connect and do everything that I want.
But I dont see a DISCONNECT option at all.
The metro interface after the connection is made also does not show status as "connected". It shows "connect" instead.
If you go to network and sharing center and then into adapter settings you can see you VPN connection. but the "status" column does not show "connected" but instead shows the same name of the vpn connection as seen in the "Name"
column!!
Right clicking that active connection does not show "disconnect", but shows "connect/disconnect".
Then I realized that after double clicking that VPN connection you can then see the status window, where a disconnect button does exists and clicking that does disconnect the VPN.
But this is crazy.
Why do we now have to go so deep, just to disconnect!
This never happens in windows 7, windows 7 with SP1, Windows 8
This is new to Windows 8.1
Anyone else seen this? Is there a solution ?

Changing From Windows 8.1 PRO with Media Center To Just Windows 8.1 PRO
Hi,
I am trying to convert my windows to Windows 8.1 PRO from an unactivated version of Windows 8.1 PRO with Media Center (a free trial I got when I purchased my computer that expired). I am having an issue where it says to "Activate Windows."
I purchased a Windows 8.1 PRO key and when I try to enter it into the "Activate Windows" under PC settings, it tells me that "This key can't be used to activate this version of windows." What do I do?Check with MS activation support : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929
