Windows 8.1 Pro DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD

I built a PC a few months ago, and recently decided to move to Windows 8. I had a Windows 8 upgrade key, so I had to go through Windows 8 before I could move to 8.1. Before I could upgrade to 8.1, I needed my Ethernet driver updated, because W8 does not
have the proper Intel I217-V driver. I downloaded the latest driver off of the internet, and when I went to install it, every time just before the installation finished, I got a BSOD (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION). I had to install the drivers off the CD. I upgraded
to Windows 8.1, and updated the drivers without a problem. But now, every once in a while, I get the same BSOD in the Windows 8.1 login screen. I have uploaded the dump file to SkyDrive.

This one was related to a known problem with LogMeIn Hamachi Virtual Miniport Driver. Driver Update Site: https://secure.logmein.com/products/ios/
Their 1/23/2014 driver (which is your date) is buggy.  I suggest you contact them for a patch, beta, or work around or wailing that revert to an older driver until they figure it out

MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS (44)
A driver has requested that an IRP be completed (IoCompleteRequest()), but
the packet has already been completed. This is a tough bug to find because
the easiest case, a driver actually attempted to complete its own packet
twice, is generally not what happened. Rather, two separate drivers each
believe that they own the packet, and each attempts to complete it. The
first actually works, and the second fails. Tracking down which drivers
in the system actually did this is difficult, generally because the trails
of the first driver have been covered by the second. However, the driver
stack for the current request can be found by examining the DeviceObject
fields in each of the stack locations.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro x64 BSOD 0x9f DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

    I bought a new ASUS N76VZ about 2 weeks ago that came with Windows 8. I did a clean upgrade to windows 8.1 Pro and I proceed to install the drivers for the various utilities for the system. Shortly afterward, I repeatedly get this bugcheck stop error at
    least once a day.
    This is very annoying as I am a college student and it makes it difficult to to keep up if it throws this error when in class (which it has done so twice already). I proceeded to do some research into the cause of the error and i have found it comes back
    to a hardware compatibility issue (I assume, if not then your welcome to correct me).
    The following minidumps can be found at http://sdrv.ms/1blPxrT.  If anyone could shed some light on the exact cause of the problem would be much appreciated. If the above minidumps do not have enough information to find the cause, let me know and
    i will get whatever is needed.
    Thanks.

    HO
    Still blamed on the video driver and the video driver is the same date.  You need to find a drive (older) that will work.  I would also consider removing Symantec.

  • ThinkPad W530 with Windows 8 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector

    Nine, that only covers Widows 7. Many people in this thread have reported the problem using Windows 8. Has that been addressed by Lenovo yet? Stability problems like this should NEVER be allowed to go so long without a resolution.
    Edit Note : This thread was created base from the previous thread "ThinkPad W530 with Windows 7 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector. As we currently Cx reporting facing the same issue on Win8 I have seperated this thread in order not toconfuse other customer. For cutomers facing this issue please continue posting in this thread.

    Hi shan_mcarthur,
    Thanks for posting. I read through this thread again and noticed that most of customers here do indeed have Windows 7 installed as what the title represented unless I'm mistaken or may have missed out are you or anyone else here facing the same issue on Windows 8. If that is the case I'll be more than happy to bring this up with the teams but it will have to be a new thread though as I'd like to keep the resolution separate based on the OS use just to not confuse other customer .
    For those facing the same issue above on Win8, please do let me know so we can start a discussion around this.
    Do let me know.

  • Driver power state failure (Windows 8.1 pro) when downloading a program and restart.

    Hey Guys,
    I've been trying to fix this problem for a while now, without any solution. I have a HP ENVY 15-j035eo Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
    which I install Windows 8.1 pro on. I start by getting all the drivers that are missing in Device Manager and updates.
    Now I want to enable virtualization with Hyper -V client (All requirements are met for that). Then the computer crashes after restart with a driver power state failure. Exactly the same occurs when I install Visual Studio after restart. Here is some info from
    the dump file from blue screen viewer that i get for the problem.

    Hi,
    ntoskrnl.exe is known as a kernal image for windows operating system, but hard to find the actual acuse basically according to this error message you provided in the original post, maybe a 3 rd party program or a missing file, or corrupted driver.
    Please uplaod the dump file after running Driver Verifier, you can find detailed instruction in the following link (provided  by Patrick Barker)

  • 0x101-0x20017 - Windows 8.1 Pro update

    Hey Technet!
    I've recently been attempting to install Windows 8.1 Pro on my Asus Pro55 F5SR laptop.
    The specs for the laptop are:
    - 2GB RAM
    - 250GB HHD
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
    - ATI (AMD) Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series - 512MB
    - Windows 8 Pro x64
    The laptop currently runs Windows 8 which was installed in December, last year.
    I have tried installing 8.1 via the Store, and also ISO, both returning 0x20017 after the first installation reboot.
    Along with these, I have also tried performing a Clean boot, disabling firewalls/anti-virus, and performing a PC Refresh. All return the BSOD with no luck.
    My system reserved drive is 100MB (however I do not know if this would have anything to do with my problem).

    Hi,
    According to the Setup log, I would like to know if your system has MSSQL service.
    And,please update all drivers to latest versions(include display driver),firstly.
    It's important.
    Then, I suggest we try the following steps to narrow down the issue.
    1.Stop "Windows Update" service.
    2.Delete "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution" folder.
    3.Restart "Windows Update" service.
    If the issue persists, please  check if your system have enabled .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8.
    Meanwhile, I suggest you upload the dump files so that we can help you analyze them.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac Mini Late 2014

    I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my Mac Mini.  Windows reports that it cannot install or create a partition on the drive after formatting the BOOTCAMP partition as NTFS.
    This is my setup:
    1. Mac Mini Late 2014 with 2TB Fusion Drive.
    2. Windows 8.1 Pro x64 full version ISO downloaded from Microsoft Store.
    3. Sandisk Extreme Flash Drive (I have tried both 16GB and 64GB).
    4. Bootcamp partition = 500GB.
    5. Other USB devices plugged in: Corded USB Mouse and Apple Extended Keyboard (both of which are required to enter the serial number and navigate the installer window).
    6. No additional storage devices of any kind are connected aside from the internal Fusion drive and the installer drive.
    7. Booting from the EFI portion of the Bootcamp created Windows installer.
    I have read that I should try using a USB 2 flash drive rather than a USB 3 flash drive, so I will try that next.  I fail to understand how this could make any difference.
    If you have any other tips, please let me know.
    I have installed or helped other people install bootcamp many times over the course of the past 2 years.  Every single time it has caused endless headaches and literally weeks of wasted time.
    I have read endless posts on what is causing these problems.  I will consider summarising these for anyone else having the same problems.  Everyone has their theory so far about this Bootcamp nightmare, but so far there doesn't appear to be any one magic solution.
    Apple's inability to address the issue suggests that the problem may be with the Windows installer.  Perhaps Microsoft is deliberately causing this?
    I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
    If you have any better idea, please let me know.
    On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
    Cheers,
    Paul

    The FAT32/NTFS partition is usually not adequate for an EFI install. You can delete the BCA-created partition and create a Disk Utility partition which is formatted as Free Space. This will be split into an MSR and MSD. Fusion drives create problems, especially if the BC partition lies outside the traditional MBR 2TB boundary.
    Before you delete the BCA-created partition, please post the output of
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

    Windows installers up to W8.1 do not have USB3 drivers. These are installed after Windows is installed and BC drivers are in place.

    The requirements are pretty strict when installing Windows. Any deviations cause headaches and grief.
    I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
    The USB is usually the issue.

    After Windows is fully installed and BC drivers are in place, log into Windows, right click on it and rename it on the Windows side. It cannot be renamed on the OSX side with diskutil renameVolume. Here is an example sequence. You cannot rename volume during the installation process.

  • Windows 8.1 something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed.

    After the release of windows 8.1 preview I attempted the installation of 8.1 preview which failed. I decided it wasn't worth the bother until it was officially released so I left it uninstalled.
    After the official release of 8.1 yesterday I opened the store on my windows 8 PC and I was presented with the Windows 8.1 download. I selected this and attempted to install. this failed with the message "Something happened and Windows 8.1 Preview
    failed to install" Whoops!
    I clearly hadn't done my windows updates to update the store so I ran these updates and in my windows store was the Official windows 8.1 download.
    Once downloaded it then fails saying "Something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed Please try again Error Code 0x80070003"
    now im stuck with that. is there a way I can clear the downloaded files and have the store re-download them? where are the stores downloads kept?
    im really stuck with this one....

    Hi,
    This error code means that the specified path couldn't be found.
    To fix this issue, I suggest we try following steps and try to reinstall again:
    Step 1: Clean update temp files:
    1. Press Windows key + R, type service.msc and press enter.
     2. Stop Windows update service.
    3. Run following command lines one by one to clear update temp files:
    cd %windir%
    ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp
    exit
    4.  Restart Windows update service.
    Step 2: Clear windows store catch:
    Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
    Type WSReset.exe, and click/tap on OK.
    The Store will now open, and state the following: The cache for the store was cleared. You can now browse the store for apps
    Then, please try to update Windows 8.1 again.

    I have two PC-s, one is with windows  7 home premium  and the other one with  windows 8.1 pro op system.  They are wired via ethernet/ home network. Till I had old Windows  XP instead of Windows 7, the two PC-s were connected,

  • Windows Update in Endless Loop of 'Installing updates" and "Undoing changes" on New Windows 8.1 Pro Install

    I am setting new Windows 8.1 Pro computers, and am installing Windows 8.1 Pro to bare drives.  Everything goes fine until Windows Update starts installing updates, and then the computer goes for hours installing updates, and then "We
    could not complete the updates Undoing changes".   It's an endless loop. It seems to be the same 38 updates.  This is a recent phenomenon.  I have not run into this until the last week or two on several new computer installs.
    Again these are brand new installs, so something is clearly wrong with the Windows updates.
    If anyone can please tell me how to avoid this, it would be much appreciated.
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    "  This is a recent phenomenon"
    Have you made any modifications to the machines ?
    To resolve this issue ,running the built-in troubleshoot tool is a very good beginning .It will automatically diagnostic the windows update components and check the configurations for us .
     Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Fix problems with Windows Update
    If there are antivirus software installed in these machines, please turn off them temporarily to have a check.
    The command line included in the link as S.Sengupta posted is very useful and convenient to repair the windows corrupted files .We can have a try .
    "sfc /scannow" ,"DISM.EXE /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth "
    We also can check the windowsupdate.log for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
     Run "windowsupdate.log"
    If you have trouble in analyzing the log ,please upload them to the OneDrive and paste the link here .
    Best regards

  • How to install window 8.1 pro on g500

    Hello,
    I currently have the g500 lenovo computer with the preloaded software windows 8.1. I would like to purchase the windows 8.1 pro version and would like to know what are the steps needed to do this and if anyone has done this what type of problems if any have you encounter.
    Thanks

    hi fishermanjack,
    The easiest way to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Pro is by adding features. To do this, you will need a Windows 8.1 Pro Pack license. This is ideal if you wanna keep the OneKey Recovery function and other proprietary lenovo softwares.
    I haven't tried this upgrade yet on the G500 but on a Ideapad Flex15 gave no drawbacks (drivers / softwares are compatible). If you have already added some important files, ensure that you have them backed-up first before doing the upgrade.

    Hi,
    is it possible to install Windows 8.1 Professional (32 bit) on the Omni 10 without problems?
    Are there any how-tos available?
    Regards
    Andreas

    Hi @AndreasN  , welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are looking for an instructional to install Windows 8.1 Pro x 32 on your Omni tablet.
    If you are saying that you want to install a retail copy of Windows on it, I do not have an instructional for you and I have never done it on an Omni tablet. I cannot guarantee you wouldn't have any problems, but I can give you a few things you will need. Here are the drivers you will need:
    HP Omni 10 5600eg Tablet Drivers
    If you have Windows 8.1 DVD's you would need a computer to make an installation USB drive to get it on your tablet:
    Create installation media for Windows 8.1. There are many other instructionals out there as well, if you need more info.
    If I am wrong, and you just mean to do a factory reset, these instructions cover that: Recovering Software on Your HP Tablet (Windows 8)

  • Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.

    I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
    My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
    -Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
    -WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
    -WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
    The following steps were used:
    1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
    2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
    3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
    4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
    5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
    6. Create media as detailed here;
    7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
    8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
    9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
    10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
    Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
    So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
    Questions:
    1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
    2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
    3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
    I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.

    What VC are you using?
    I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
    It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 Pro with Bootcamp

    I have an early 2011 MBP 15" that's running Mavericks, and I just got Windows 8.1 Pro with an install disc. I'd like to install W8 with Bootcamp, but I can't seem to find any guides on doing this, as most people have retina MBPs which have no optical drive (bad design choice, IMO), so they utilize a flash drive. How would I go about doing this properly?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    With a disc it's much easier to install Windows 8.1 on your MacBook, because the steps are the same as for any other Windows version.
    Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) will guide you through the first steps. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8.1 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf
