Windows 8.1 Pro & Google Chromecast

I have recently installed Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit.  I have google chromecast installed on my HDTV and am attempting to set up Windows so that I can cast media to my tv.  Chrome keeps stating no cast devices found, even though the computer
recognizes  the chomecast and lists it as a network device.  I have read the following pages:

I do not have that option within my PC Network setting.

1.First of all ,have the machine been joined to a domain before? Just as the second link post`s “This setting isn't available for domain networks
(for example, if you bring home a work laptop)”.
We can have a check by opening the System property (Search “System“ from the Start Screen).If the machine has been joined to a domain, we can change it to a work group through the “Change settings \Network ID”.
2.Just as the link you offered posted ,have you tried to turn off the antivirus software ,firewalls ?
Have you tried to restart the router ,the machine and
the Chromecast device?
3. At the same time, considering this issue is related to the Chromecast device, you may need to look for help from the Chromecast Forum, too.

  • MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2013) will not install Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp?

    Have spent many hours trying to sort this out. I was told this morning in the end by a 'Senior Advisor' @ Apple that Boot Camp does not support Windows 8.1 Pro so effectively it seems like my only option for a new machine purchased earlier in the week is to return for a refund.
    This despite the Apple Spec saying "
    Windows 8: Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 8 or 8.1 Pro (Boot Camp 5 only)"
    The subject has been aired in thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5474320?start=585&tstart=0 but it has been suggested I post a fresh thread.
    I have purchased a new 8.1 Pro license, so this is not an upgrade. I have followed the Boot Camp instructions, including getting the update for this model spcifically, but the nearest I got to a successful install returns soemthing of the like 'Unable to update boot settings' or the like and installation cancels. My machine is a mess I guess now, but in a final effort - does anyone have the step by step 'idiots guide' to working through the setup successfully? I don't want to get involved in massses of messing around with files as this should clearly not be necessary for achieving an advertised solution on a new machine bought within the last week should it?
    Appreciate any help - I have up to seven more days left in my option to return for a full refund..... and maybe buy a Dell instead?
    PS : We have many Apple products, Air, ipads and iphones so would dearly like to sort this out if possible.

    8/8.1 will install fine but there's some stuff you need to do before starting to ensure no issues
    purchase a retail 8/8.1 license
    use only a USB2 flash drive
    get a clean 8 or 8.1 ISO
    newer machines are more selective with the ISO for some reason (ISOs that worked to install Windows on many different older Macs would not work)
    if you've made lots of changes, hacks and adjustments trying to get this work on your own, you should clean install OSX first, do not restore from time machine and start at step 3 to get Windows installed, you can go back later and copy files back to OSX
    if you want to try without clean installing OSX, here goes
    open boot camp assistant (bca) and choose option 3 ONLY if it reads 'remove/delete' Windows
    open disk utility (du) and confirm that your HD now only has 1 single partition ('macintosh HD' unless you've renamed it)
    restart machine and do a PRAM reset
    open du and repair permissions TWICE
    open bca and choose all 3 options (create, download, install)
    from here, the process follows the standard boot camp instructions (http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf) but pay attention to step 3 where you do have to manually reformat the boot camp partition

  • Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 and it killed all my 3rd party drivers

    Hoping someone can help - my PC upgraded Windows 8.1 Pro (fresh install a few months ago) with the 'Update 1 patch' which was made available a few days ago.  It was done via Windows Update - I let it do its thing for about 15 minutes, restart etc.
    Once the machine restarted, I noticed the following:
    - no network connection
    - no sound
    - no working camera
    I went to the device manager and see a stack of 3rd-party devices with exclamation marks, all stating code 28 (the drivers for this device are not installed).  I go to each device and try to update the drivers - it looks like its going to work and then
    gives the error "The system cannot find the file specified".
    I do some googling and find the setupapi.dev.log.  The log for every device with a problem reads like this:

     It seems like 'update 1' as crapped all over my driver store.
    What can I do to fix this - I have tried a raft of things such as pnputil commands to add the driver INFs manually (they fail saying 'element not found'), but still I am stuck without sound, network and camera.
    This will be the last time I let Microsoft update automatically install - it will now be 100% manual, and done after a few weeks to ensure there aren't bugs.

  • Corrupt SPLDR.SYS Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit won't boot

    Hi!
    I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit full Norwegian version bought at a local store.  My PC consists of:
    MB:  Asrock Z97 Extreme4
    Proc.:  Intel i7 4790
    RAM:  4 x 8 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport 1866Mhz 10CL
    Video: Gainward GeForce GTX 770 4GB
    SSD:  Kingston HyperX SH100S3 240GB (system disk)
    RAID5:  3 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB + 1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB(configured using Intel RAID BIOS utility - only used for user files)
    Optical:  Lite-On IHOS104-37 + LG BD-R BH10 
    eSATA:  Samsung Story Station Plus 1.5 TB (This had to be set as internal SATA drive in UEFI otherwise it refuses to wake up form sleep)
    1394a:  Lycom PCI-E PE-101
    PS:  Corsair HX750W
    The optical drives are connected to the onboard ASMedia ASM1061 controller, the others to connectors controlled by the Intel Z97 chipset. I also have an M-AUDIO Firewire Solo external sound card connected to the 1394a expansion card.  This is powered
    by the Firewire bus and is occasionally a little "tricky".  I believe it's because there is no driver available for Win 8 so I had to use the one for Win 7 64-bit.
    This rig was set up about a month ago and has worked without any
    serious problems except that I sometimes experience that the eSATA drive doesn't always wake from sleep. 
    All suggested updates has been installed.
    My issue is this:
    2 days ago I was installing a Silverlight
    plug-in for Mozilla when I got a message that the installation routine couldn't update the registry and then the system
    froze. After rebooting,
    I was informed that Windows had become
    corrupt. Attempting to run the
    repair routine was no use - I just got
    a message that Windows couldn't undertake
    the repair. I suspected problems
    with the system disk and started the
    command prompt using the installation DVD.
    It turned out that the C drive suddenly
    had becomeE drive. The RAID "disk" showed up under the command prompt as C:\. 
    I ran bootrec (Sorry, I can't remember what parameter I used)
    that reported that some errors were
    repaired but that it couldn't repair everything.
    Then I ran sfc offline.
    In the srttrail.txt log file (that was written to the correct path on the E drive) I see that
    SPLDR.SYS is corrupt and attempt
    to repair failed (error code 0x2
    and 0x490).
    I was advised by a support engineer on the Microsoft Community forum to try and run chkdsk /p - which turned out to be an invalid parameter - and chkdsk /r which reported that everything was OK. 
    The support engineer suggested that I should perform a system restore from WindowsRE.  This is what happened: 
    At first there seemed to be only one restore point available dated two days earlier but when I looked for more restore points there were 4 alltogether the oldest one dated 14 days earlier.  I klicked the button "Look for the
    affected programs" (or something like that - I've translated this from the Norwegian version I use.) and there were listed a lot of programs and utilities that had been installed on this disk before but not as long as it had been in
    this rig! (I used this SSD as system disk in another PC earlier.)  This is strange: when I installed the disk in my new rig I chose to repartition it and as far as I know that means that old data is erased.  OK, I chose the newest restore point anyway
    and klicked Next.  In the following dialog there was a yellow exclamation mark and a list of two drives.  Both drives were called Local drive (C:), the first one with (System) as well.  Under Status on this first one it said "You
    must enable system protection on this drive." Status of the second one was "Cannot find the drive" (Again translated from the Norwegian version.) The checkbox to the left
    of both of the listings were greyed out and because I couldn't choose any of them, the Next-button was grayed out as well. 
    As I mentioned before the drives have chanched letters.  When I use old DOS commands from the command prompt and switch from the X: drive (which seems to be the Windows installation DVD) to C: it shows the RAID I mentioned before.  Likewise, the
    system disk (i.e. the SSD I'm having trouble with) is now D:.  And that sort of explains why the system recovery can't find the drive...  But it doesn't explain why the old programs show up in the new restore points... (I've checked that the SSD
    still is set to be boot disk in UEFI.)
    The support engineer suggested that I post my query on the TechNet forum.  
    Do you have any suggestions what to do? 
    I'm a little nervous considering what could happen
    with the files on the data disk if I make a mistake... :-)

    I must admit that I don't know how these things go together but there are a few things that makes me wonder:
    First of all this has to be the reason why Windows 7 Ultimate comes up as the only option when I try to run System Restore. But is it really a Windows 7 installation?  A lot of the files (logs and so on) in the Windows folder and subfolders are dated
    mid August when I installed Windows 8.1.  I just wonder...
    I've been googling a bit about system installation and recovery and I read somewhere that there are some special precautions when installing Windows on a UEFI-based system.  I can not remember that there were any options or warnings about that when
    I installed Windows 8.1 on my system.  But I belive I saw somewhere that a UEFI-based installation creates other partitions than an installation on an ordinary BIOS based system.  The fact that the SSD has been used in a BIOS based system with Windows
    7 Ultimate before explains in my mind why there is no reserved partition. 
    BTW:  I don't know if this is important but the strings that were reported by the bootsect command were {e59cd65f-170a-42c4-927d-8ce8a94989a3} for the C:-disk and {cf240c96-43dc-11e4-85a8-806e6f6e6963} for the D:-disk.

  • S400U - Install windows 8.1 PRO

    Hi guys!
    I have an Ideapad S400U, I5, 4GB of Ram, 500GB HD and 32GB SSD. I love this machine, but...
    I'm having the following problem: Im a software developer and one of the tools I use only works in windows 8.1 PRO.
    The only option I have is to upgrade the original windows (windows 8 single language) to windows 8.1 PRO. I purchased a license and a serial number of win 8.1 pro, but it doesn't worked with the "Add windows resources" options, witch upgrade OS without formating.
    I wasted 2 weeks searching for a tutorial of how to install (or to do a fresh installation) windows 8.1 pro in this machine using the ssd.
    I know how to format machines without ssd drives, but I'm concerned that I coud fail and lose the performance and boot speed provided by the ssd.
    I tried everything, google, forums and even call the support (that doesn't know how to format their own ultrabooks).
    Please, if someone knows how to do that, or know some tutorial, PLEASE send me here.
    Sorry for my despair.

    After OS Installation
        Download and install this Software to Mount the SSd again for Caching

  • Windows 8.1 Pro Workstations - Not Getting "Install Updates and Shut Down" notification for new updates

    We've got a small handful of Windows 8.1 Pro workstations on our domain (SBS 2008).
    The workstations show up in the WSUS Console list along with the details of how many updates need to be installed.
    On the Windows 8.1 Pro workstations, at the logon screen they display "Important Updates Are Available. Go to PC Settings to install them".  If we go to PC Settings or Windows Updates via Control Panel the updates show as awaiting installation.
    However, we can't rely on users to go into PC Settings or Control Panel to install Windows Updates. We need them to be installed as per Windows 7 and Windows XP - whereby when the user shuts down their workstations it displays the message "Install Updates
    and Shutdown".
    Currently the Windows 8.1 Pro workstations do not show this - if you choose to shut down there are no update installation messages and the workstations simply shut down.
    Has anyone else encountered this? What needs to be done?

    What settings do you have in your WSUS GPO?
    Have you seen this, in the 'Configure Automatic Updates' setting?
          On Windows 8 and later, you can set updates to install during automatic maintenance instead of a specific schedule. Automatic maintenance will install updates when the computer is not in use, and avoid doing so when the computer
    is running on battery power. If automatic maintenance is unable to install updates for 2 days, Windows Update will install updates right away. Users will then be notified about an upcoming restart, and that restart will only take place if there is no potential
    for accidental data loss.
            Automatic maintenance can be further configured by using Group Policy settings here: Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components->Maintenance Scheduler

  • System Reserved Not Available in Windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi, everyone! I have a doubt here.
    I have done the installation of Windows 8.1 Pro in my free dos laptop. I did custom installation, followed by "Choosing Partition to install Windows" step. There were two types of partition shown which were "system" and "primary",
    and then I chose the "system " type partition to be installed Windows. ( What I am worried is that I did a different way compared to the tutorials in Internet)
    Hence, there has no System Reserved Partition in my pc.
    My doubt is that, is there any problems or errors that will occur when without the mentioned partition? As I searched in Google I have done another way when installing Windows.

  • 802.11ac not recognized on Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp.

    I just installed Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp. The issue I am having is that the 802.11ac network is not recognized in Windows. Windows only recohnizes the 802.11n network. When I boot up OSX Yosemite, It works as usual. Anyone else have this problem?

  • Problems with loading webpages on Window 8.1 Pro

    Hi there.
    I have owned a MacBook Air 13" 2013 edition since it was released and everything has been absolutely fine, no problems what so ever. Recently though I have installed Windows 8.1 Pro through Boot Camp. Going through all the steps it has all set up fine from what I can tell, the installation went smoothly and all the Apple drivers were installed like instructed. Since using it though I have noticed that when surfing the web on my MacBook, the load times are faster in Mac OS X 10.9 by quite a lot in some cases and I am often hitting the 'Reload' button when Chrome tells me that it couldn't connect. I run the latest version of Google Chrome and Firefox on both so I know that there shouldn't be a big difference in speed.
    I have done Wi-Fi troubleshooting but nothing, everything seems to look okay but Win 8.1 Pro is defiantly not as consistent as Mac OS X 10.9 is. Would this be a driver issue? How do I fix this?

    I would download the latests bootcamp driver zip
    Apple - Support - Downloads
    if it's 5033 or 5621 depend on your model which ones for which are listed
    unzip in windows and navigate to the wifi or ethernet driver and manually install the drivers

    But the problem is more likely IE11 itself. Aside from Vista, it's just about the worst garbage Microsoft has unleashed on the computing public, ever. They intentionally altered the "User-Agent Strings", which websites use to identify the browser and provide the proper content for it. Some sites ID it as a Gecko browser (Firefox), while others ID it as a Webkit browser (Opera or Safari). Problem is... when the site ID's it as either of those, the browser specific content supplied REQUIRES the correct browser engine... which IE doesn't have and never will. So, it then becomes an "unrecognized browser". The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon. In fact, since they though this was a great idea, I seriously doubt they'll change it at all.
    Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using a different browser. Trouble with that is... it's seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
    I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
    ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

    I just paid and downloaded Windows 8.1 Pro (English), the downloading program from Microsoft store was:

    And after downloading, I chose to save the files to an ISO for later installation. The saved
    Windows 8.1.ISO (default name)
    Showed
    GB (3,363,700,736 bytes) file (actually equals size on disk) size
    I also used fciv for the checksums, with
    MD5 = 5dcb564164cbb02c4e5aba667af123aa
    SHA-1 = cfc9715ac825a6c5903da9e7c2d1a77f6d1108c0
    However, none of the two checksums could be found on the Internet (with Google search). In addition, the
    4141408 number of this download could not be found on MSDN subscribers. I would like to verify the integrity of this file. Could Microsoft people verify it?
    Additionally, I would like Microsoft to provide a link to the published
    checksum  for the file for more confidence.

    they are available to Volume Licensing (VL) customers only, not for retail version.

  • Partition Windows On Macbook Pro

    I want to partition windows onto my macbook pro so I can download the autodesk inventor software. I figured out that I can create a windows 7 or later install disk but I need the iso image to do so. So what iso image is needed and how can I get it.

    You need to buy a retail copy of windows 7. A google search for buy retail windows 7 should turn up a few store that still have them. Or you could use a system builders oem version. Again a google search would be you best option to find a copy to buy.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac Mini Late 2014

    I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my Mac Mini.  Windows reports that it cannot install or create a partition on the drive after formatting the BOOTCAMP partition as NTFS.
    This is my setup:
    1. Mac Mini Late 2014 with 2TB Fusion Drive.
    2. Windows 8.1 Pro x64 full version ISO downloaded from Microsoft Store.
    3. Sandisk Extreme Flash Drive (I have tried both 16GB and 64GB).
    4. Bootcamp partition = 500GB.
    5. Other USB devices plugged in: Corded USB Mouse and Apple Extended Keyboard (both of which are required to enter the serial number and navigate the installer window).
    6. No additional storage devices of any kind are connected aside from the internal Fusion drive and the installer drive.
    7. Booting from the EFI portion of the Bootcamp created Windows installer.
    I have read that I should try using a USB 2 flash drive rather than a USB 3 flash drive, so I will try that next.  I fail to understand how this could make any difference.
    If you have any other tips, please let me know.
    I have installed or helped other people install bootcamp many times over the course of the past 2 years.  Every single time it has caused endless headaches and literally weeks of wasted time.
    I have read endless posts on what is causing these problems.  I will consider summarising these for anyone else having the same problems.  Everyone has their theory so far about this Bootcamp nightmare, but so far there doesn't appear to be any one magic solution.
    Apple's inability to address the issue suggests that the problem may be with the Windows installer.  Perhaps Microsoft is deliberately causing this?
    I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
    If you have any better idea, please let me know.
    On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...

    The FAT32/NTFS partition is usually not adequate for an EFI install. You can delete the BCA-created partition and create a Disk Utility partition which is formatted as Free Space. This will be split into an MSR and MSD. Fusion drives create problems, especially if the BC partition lies outside the traditional MBR 2TB boundary.

    Windows installers up to W8.1 do not have USB3 drivers. These are installed after Windows is installed and BC drivers are in place.

    The requirements are pretty strict when installing Windows. Any deviations cause headaches and grief.
    I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
    The USB is usually the issue.
    On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
    After Windows is fully installed and BC drivers are in place, log into Windows, right click on it and rename it on the Windows side. It cannot be renamed on the OSX side with diskutil renameVolume. Here is an example sequence. You cannot rename volume during the installation process.

  • Windows 8.1 something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed.

    After the release of windows 8.1 preview I attempted the installation of 8.1 preview which failed. I decided it wasn't worth the bother until it was officially released so I left it uninstalled.
    After the official release of 8.1 yesterday I opened the store on my windows 8 PC and I was presented with the Windows 8.1 download. I selected this and attempted to install. this failed with the message "Something happened and Windows 8.1 Preview
    failed to install" Whoops!
    I clearly hadn't done my windows updates to update the store so I ran these updates and in my windows store was the Official windows 8.1 download.
    Once downloaded it then fails saying "Something happened and windows 8.1 Pro couldn't be installed Please try again Error Code 0x80070003"
    now im stuck with that. is there a way I can clear the downloaded files and have the store re-download them? where are the stores downloads kept?

    This error code means that the specified path couldn't be found.
    To fix this issue, I suggest we try following steps and try to reinstall again:
    Step 1: Clean update temp files:
    1. Press Windows key + R, type service.msc and press enter. 
     2. Stop Windows update service.
    3. Run following command lines one by one to clear update temp files:
    cd %windir%
    ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp
    exit
    4.  Restart Windows update service.
    Step 2: Clear windows store catch:
    Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
    Type WSReset.exe, and click/tap on OK.
    The Store will now open, and state the following: The cache for the store was cleared. You can now browse the store for apps
    Then, please try to update Windows 8.1 again.

  • Windows 7 home premium and windows 8.1 pro op network problem

    I have two PC-s, one is with windows  7 home premium  and the other one with  windows 8.1 pro op system.  They are wired via ethernet/ home network. Till I had old Windows  XP instead of Windows 7, the two PC-s were connected,
    file sharing and device sharing was easy and functioning. 
    Today it doesn't,  windows 8.1 finds the other PC and creating the network, even identifying the different folders on the other PC however as I want to open a file, then loading forever starts, but
    on the other side the windows 7 PC is frozen, only the hard switch off helps. ...
    Any idea what to do? The diagnose shows that the access was lost.
