  • Metro app crash: only video players like "Video", "VLC", etc

    Only the video player app in the metro UI crashes to start screen when opening a file.
    In the player UI, the browsing of videos can be done fine but when clicking on any video it shows the player interface and loading for a sec or two...., then disappears/crashes to start screen.
    to my knowledge it seems to b some codecs issue. Doesnot recall what cause it. just one day it started acting like so.
    how to fix it?

    Hi,
    When a Windows 8 metro App crashes, an error is logged in Windows Administrative Events.You can view the details of any app crash by launching the Event Viewer and selecting Administrative Events under Custom Views.
    If some error log appeared, please post it here so that we can help you analyze them.
    If you cannot find any error, please uninstall this app and reinstall it.
    Also, download App troubleshooter to test it, which can automatically find and fix some problems with apps.
    Try App troubleshooter:

  • How to Solve Windows 8 Metro App Crash on Macbook Pro 2010 13"

    There is a known problem
    (See http://www.onebitzero.com/how-to-fix-metro-apps-from-crashing-under-nvidia-beta- driver-296-17-in-windows-8/ )
    that many notebooks equipped with nVIDIA GPU and running Windows 8 will crash some Modern UI (Metro) apps,
    including Game, Camera, Remote Desktop, ... apps.
    My MacBook Pro 2010 13" has an nVIDIA GeForce 320M.
    I installed Windows 8 Pro RTM gotten from DreamSpark Premium and Boot Camp Software 3.2 on my MacBook Pro.
    Unfortunately, I met the Modern UI app crash problem.
    I fought against this problem two days and almostly surrended.
    Unbelievablely, I could solve it.
    Yes. We can simply solve the crash problem by installing the latest 301.42 driver download from nvidia.com.
    But it is not perfect: we will find we can't adjust the brightness anymore.
    I also tried many methods, including modifies .inf files and change permissions but all are failed.
    Except one for which I got an idea from Windows Event Viewer.
    I found I got an error event when I launched the problematic Modern UI app. For example,
    "Faulting application name: wwahost.exe, version: 6.2.9200.16384, time stamp: 0x50107c6e
    Faulting module name: nvd3dumx.dll, version: 8.17.11.9682, time stamp: 0x4b884f8a"
    (Attention! The following steps are at your risks.
    Or you may not try it.)
    The steps to solve the crash problem and simultanously preserve the brightness adjustment function are:
    1. Download the latest 301.42 driver from nvidia.com. Then, click it to extract files to C:\
    and we don't install it.
    2. Copy the Boot Camp nVIDIA driver files from "13-inch MacBook Pro Mac OS X Install DVD,"
    ie. this folder:
    (DVD drive):\Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64
    3. Replace the older nvd3dumx.dl_ with the newer one.
    I.e. overwrite
    Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\nvd3dumx.dl_
    by
    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\301.42\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver\nvd 3dumx.dl_
    4. Follow this tutorial to turn off driver integrity check:
    http://www.killertechtips.com/2009/05/05/disable-driver-signing-windows-7/
    and reboot.
    5. Install the modified driver by clicking
    Boot Camp\Drivers\NVidia\Vista-Win7_64\setup.exe
    6. Reboot your computer and good luck.

    The method described above is too complex.
    I found a more easy way to solve the Modern app crash problem.
    That is to download the legacy driver 296.10 here
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/beta-legacy
    Unfortunately, 296.10 and 19x don't solve all problems on Windows 8:

  • Windows 8.1 pro N apps open and comes back to start again

    I have just installed windows 8.1 pro N and I have got an issue. the issue is when I download any app from windows store it opens and comes back to start again. I had faced this problem before also.
    I have made a video but cannot send the link

    May I know if this issue happen to all apps?
    Did you try to update your Windows?
    I suspected this issue related to regional setting since you are using N version of Windows 8.1
    Check your country or region setting
    Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings.
     (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Settings.)
    Step 2: Tap or click Change PC settings.
    Step 3: Tap or click Time and language, then tap Region and language.
    Step 4: Under Country or region, look to see that your location is set correctly, and change it if it's not.
    The app is no longer available in the Store
    Maybe this app not available in your country
    Family Safety settings or app locker might be hiding or lock apps
    Contact apps developer if this only happen to spesific app

  • Sysprep and Windows 8.1 -- missing Metro apps after reboot?

    So, I'm trying to figure out an issue with Sysprep and a clean-install Windows 8.1 64 Enterprise system:
    When I sysprep the computer from my admin account with my unattend.xml file, when it reboots, I'm only getting 7 Metro apps at the start screen and
    14 Metro Apps at the "all apps" screen -- things like Weather, Maps, Calendar, Mail, etc are missing -- and actually look like they aren't installed
    as searching for something like "People" -- gives no results.
    From what I've been able to gather, the behavior of the start screen should controlled by an appsFolderLayout.bin file, but when I first set up the initial
    account (not "administrator", but the initial local admin account), that file does not exist anywhere.
    I've tried creating the file manually by running:
    Export-StartLayout -As Bin -Path C:\Temp\appsFolderLayout.bin
    and either putting it in \Users\<myadminaccount>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
    or \Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
    and sysprepping again (after restoring a snapshot to the pre-sysprep/post-clean install state), but this isn’t making any difference.
    When I run sysprep /generalize — the .bin file is deleted and replaced by some other default one — that I’m not sure where it is generated from.
    Does anybody have any suggestions here?    Windows 8.0 just worked with my unattend.xml file without having to mess with appsFolderLayout.bin, so I’m not sure what I’m missing.
    Thanks!

    If you are still having trouble, this is an outline of the full process I use that seems to be consistently producing good results:
    - Install Windows 8.1 Enterprise with autounattend.xml, in particular, blank administrator password, add user account test, auto-logon as Administrator, run "net user test /delete" immediately after logon to get back to just having the administrator account.
    There should be no reason why all that has to be done in autounattend.xml, but it is the way I do it. There are a few other mandatory settings if you want a fully-automated setup.
    - At this point in time the Administrator account only shows a few tiles on the start screen, all actions are performed using the Administrator account.
    - Run Schtasks.exe /change /disable /tn "\Microsoft\Windows\AppxDeploymentClient\Pre-staged app cleanup" before the task has had a chance to run.
    - Install all applications, updates and settings as you want.
    - Run Sysprep, in particular blank administrator password, add user account test, auto-logon as Administrator, run "net user test /delete" immediately after logon to get back to just having the administrator account. Also importantly we set CopyProfile to
    false under Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup specialize pass. I don't know because I haven't tried it, but I imagine that if you run this and copy the Administrator profile to the default user profile then the default user profile may be missing some apps. We
    do all customization of the default user profile explicitly by loading the registry hive and editing it directly.
    After the image is deployed the Admistrator account has all the standard tiles present, but two of them report errors (I think it is Music and Videos). Any other profiles have all tiles present and all apps work.
    The full sysprep XML is included below in case it is useful to anybody. The company-specific settings and passwords have been blanked out, but otherwise it is the full one we use and fairly generic apart from the Australian settings. Note that this one is
    for a 64-bit image.

    Any Help?

    Hi Sumit Singh,
    My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64-Bit Version
    This is the error message I am getting, the standard window that pops up when something crashes...
    I have never used Premiere before, that's why I wanted to try it out for a project and no I cannot get a crash detail.
    Other Programs like Sony Vegas work just fine on my Computer, so I am not sure if the problem lies with my computer or with the downloaded Trial.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 APP CRASH. PLZ HELP!

    Hello, This is my first time posting here
    So Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 randomly decided to start crashing on me.
    First here are my sytem stats:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    model: VAIO
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU     Q740  @
    1.73 GHz   1.73 GHz

    system type: 64 bit
    The error message I receieve when Premiere pro Crashes:
    Problem signature:

    So upon opening Premiere everything seems ok. There is no lagging or glitching, I can click tabs and everything is fine.
    When I  import a .mov file or any of my previous premiere pro files I have no issues.
    The  problem starts when I try to scrub through the timeline. As I scrub  through it nothing shows up in the preview area. Sometimes it is blank  and other times it only shows the image that the scrubber was set on.  The program seems ok as I'm scrubbing, there's no weird lagging and the  program doesn't freeze until the box telling me "Adobe Premiere Pro CS5  has stopped working" pops up.
    The same thing happens every time. I do not know why.
    Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this?
    My copy of Premiere Pro is legal and bought.
    The  sooner I can resolve this the better. I have other computers I can use  premiere pro on but I would like to be able to work on my own laptop  when I'm at home :|.
    I've also tried updating the program but that didn't do anything either.

    It turned out to be a display problem with my computer's settings.
    For some reason my computer changed its color mode from 32 bit to 16 bit, which was also making my photoshop gradients show up choppy.
    I changed it back and problem solved!!
    Thankyou though!

  • Metro Apps All Crash On Startup - I have read the other threads on this

    UPDATE: I AM UPDATING THIS FIRST POST AS PEOPLE KEEP INCORRECTLY MARKING OUR ISSUE AS ANSWERED WHEN THEY HAVE NOT READ THE THREAD PROPERLY. AS SUCH I WILL START BY SAYING IF YOU ARE COMING HERE AND USING AVAST THEN YOUR SOLUTION WILL BE TO TURN OF THE BEHAVIOR SHIELD
    FUNCTION. MORE INFO IS CONTAINED ELSEWHERE ONLINE ON THIS MATTER. THIS THREAD IS ABOUT DOMAIN USE OF METRO ON CLEAN INSTALLS WITH NO 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE. SORRY FOR THE CAPITALS BUT 5 TIMES HAVE PEOPLE MARKED AVAST AS THE ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEM WHEN IT IS NOT
    EVEN INSTALLED AS DESCRIBED IN THE THREAD. I HAVE POSTED AN EXACT STEP BY STEP TO REPRODUCE MY PROBLEM LOWER DOWN
    I know this question has been asked several times but there seems to be no-one that has a fix for it and it's becoming very frustrating.
    I have installed windows 8 on my work computer as part of a test group to evaluate how the OS runs in our corporate space. The answer currently is not very well. The desktop side runs lovely but the whole metro experience is currently broken. This is the
    same across all the people in our test group, not just my machine.
    Scenario:
    All users running windows 8 within our domain are unable to launch any metro (sorry - new style) application with the exception of PC settings.
    I will describe how I set my machine up and the errors I receive.
    The install is Windows 8 Pro that was a totally clean install. Installation went fine and very fast which was great. When required during setup I created a local Microsoft account - we wanted to see the experience for the majority of users who
    do not have a live id. This all worked fine and everything worked as expected - including the metro apps.
    Now that everything was up and working we joined the machine to the domain, this went fine and I was asked what local security level I would like the account to have - I selected administrator as I need to install all my software / dev tools etc.
    After reboot I log into my domain account and start to install all my applications. I didn't retest metro apps at this point as it never crossed my mind that I would need to.
    All normal desktop apps / programs installed I try to show a colleague the news metro app. The splash screen flashes up and bang straight back to the start screen. I proceeded to try every single other metro app and all have the same result, including
    the store. Strangely they are all displaying notifications and updating the tiles.
    So now I start to search the issue online looking at my event logs for clues to track it down. The following is what i find in the event viewer, I will use the store as an example:
    Under "Windows Logs" --> "Application" : I get two separate error events the first reads "Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional
    information." The second arrives in the log about 15 seconds after the first and reads "App winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store did not launch within its allotted time."
    Under "Windows Logs" --> "System" : I get one error that reads "The server Windows.Store did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
    Under "Applications And Services Logs" --> "Microsoft" -->  "Windows" --> "Apps" --> "Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational" : I get one error that reads "Activation of the app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store for
    the Windows.Launch contract failed with error: The app didn't start."
    I have tried the following to resolve this with no success:
    Updated the registry as per a moderator suggestion on technet
    Linked my domain account to my live id account
    Tried changing permissions on C drive to allow all application packages full control
    Install all latest updates
    Tried to run from the local none domain account - same issue now occurs there
    I am not willing to do a repair or re install after spending the best part of a day installing my programs and arranging my start menu too my desired layout. Also each user in our test group has the same issue with totally different software installed. The
    only common item between the 5 systems is .net 3.5 has been installed in order to run a piece of custom software (a simple exe).
    I need to try to find another spare machine to test if simply joining the domain is the root cause. If so this will surely be a big issue when it is actually release later this month as we do nothing special here in terms of our domain config. If it is something
    to do with the domain Microsoft should be much more specific about what can and cant be done on the group policies if you want metro to run. There is no way we could roll this out to our users if as soon as they join our domain their entire start
    screen stops working.
    HELP!!!

    Kevinio04,
    We have been experiencing the same error in our environment; however today I have found a solution for this.  I have included my theory too, as to why this was happening.  Let me know if this solution works for you:
    If you have recently installed Windows 8 Enterprise on a machine, put the machine on a domain and then used Active Directory credentials to log in, then you may have
    experienced all Metro Apps to crash.
    Theory for Metro apps crashing: Once the machine was put on the domain and an Active Directory user would log into the Windows 8 machine group policy kicked in (depending on what OU that machine was in).  Group policy writes to the Windows registry;
    therefore if you put that same machine in a different OU after previously being in a different OU, there are still traces of the previous group policy in the Windows registry.  In summary, a new OU needs to be created in group policy specifically for
    Windows 8 machines.  The machines that are going to have Windows 8 installed on them, must start with a clean Windows 8 install. You can find details in the outline below:
    GROUP POLICY CHANGES
    Create a new Windows 8 OU with no policies enforced
    Once that OU is created, create the following Policy:
    Location of Policy: Computer Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings / Security Settings / Local Policies/Security Options / Audit: Audit the access of global system objects
    This policy needs to be set to: Not Configured
    Audit: Audit the access of global system objects
    Default: Disabled
    Description of this Policy
    *This security setting determines whether to audit the access of global system objects. If this policy is enabled, it causes system objects, such as mutexes, events, semaphores and DOS devices, to be created with a default system access control list (SACL).
    Only named objects are given a SACL; SACLs are not given to objects without names. If the Audit object access audit policy is also enabled, access to these system objects is audited.*
      INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ENTERPRISE
    Administer a clean install of Windows 8 on a machine
    Create a local administrator account
    Log in with the location admin account to put the machine on the domain

  • Windows 8.1 Pro Crashes When Enabling Hyper-V

    So I bought a new HP Envy Desktop specifically for Windows Phone Development and ironically I can't get Hyper-V running. The machine just hangs on startup and eventually Windows 8.1 Pro x64 just crashes after multiple attempts after enabling Hyper-V in Windows
    Programs/Features.  It's a Intel i5 with 12GB of RAM and virtualization is enabled in the BIOS.  I've read through multiple threads over the last several days and tried the following:
    - Updating all local drivers and Windows updates
    - Disabling Bluetooth
    - Uninstalling Avira AV
    - Someone also suggested disabling USB 3.0 support but I don't see an option to do this in my BIOS.
    I've wasted a lot of time on this and I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Hi ericvanburen,
    I found similar issue with HP Envy Desktop in HP forum , it might be due to blue tooth driver .
    And I quoted the genneral solution here :
    1. Enter into BIOS setup and set Virtualization as disabled and reboot system.
    2. After booting windows 8, enter into Control panel and remove bluetooth driver.
    3. Download and install Ralink Bluetooth driver version 9.2.101.10 (SP59632)
    4. Reboot system and enable Virtualization Technology again.
    For details please refer to following link:

  • Windows 8.1 Broken Windows/Metro apps when WIM deployed via MDT

    Windows 8.1 u1 Broken Windows/Metro apps when WIM deployed via MDT
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise - update 1, x64bit with latest updates installed.
    I am having a similar problem to thread (Sysprep
    and Windows 8.1 -- missing Metro apps after reboot?).  Although slightly different so starting a new one.  Not missing however a set of them do not install completely and display "error - this app cant install".  Certain windows
    apps fail install, mail, video,  We use vmware ESX 5.5 to capture our image.   When I deploy the image to VMware environment, all apps install successfully, when we deploy to any laptop, certain apps
    fail to install.  They display X beside them.  The workaround is to sign into windows live account and install them.
    I do have a custom start layout installed via a deploy task sequence (using command POWERSHELL -NonInteractive -Command Import-StartLayout -LayoutPath .\CustomStartLayout.bin -MountPath %SystemDrive%\)
    Disabling the custom layout import does not solve the issue.
    Any ideas?

  • Apps Crash after Launched

    I recently purchased adobe creative cloud after upgrading to windows 8.1 pro on my labtop and desktop.  I installed the apps on my desktop 1st and had no problems.  The apps on my laptop however crash after launch.  I have uninstalled and re installed them and have signed out and back in a number of times. Why won't they work?

    >recently upgraded my operating system to 8.1 pro... and a 1 GB ATI radeon
    OK... this is NOT about Cloud programs, but it IS about ATI and Win8.1 and a specific program not working with ANY driver I could find for the ATI card in my wife's computer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1318710
    After talking (email) with the advisor at the software company, I have ordered an nVidia card which will replace the ATI card she now has
    I have NO idea if your problem is the same/similar... but that is what I am doing so she can get the latest Win8.1 updates

  • AIR app crashes when using FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE on nativeWindow

    App is running on desktop and packaged as Signed native installer with AIR 14
    My app opens and closes native windows and adds externally loaded SWFs to them. I'm activating the windows with a FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE displayState. Without fail, after 5 or 10 windows opened and closed, the app crashes upon opening the next native window.
    If I don't use FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE, the app never crashes, I've tested on Mac OS and Windows, same problem.
    This code opens the window :
    var options:NativeWindowInitOptions = new NativeWindowInitOptions();
    options.transparent = false;
    options.systemChrome = NativeWindowSystemChrome.STANDARD;
    options.type = NativeWindowType.NORMAL;
    options.resizable = false;
    options.renderMode = NativeWindowRenderMode.DIRECT;
    myWindow = new NativeWindow(options);
    myWindow.title = "Title";
    myWindow.width = 1024;
    myWindow.height= 768;
    myWindow.stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    myWindow.stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    myWindow.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
    myWindow.activate();
    // add content to window
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    var AD:ApplicationDomain = new ApplicationDomain();
    var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext( false, AD );
    context.allowLoadBytesCodeExecution = true;
    // urlloader has loaded a local SWF file
    loader.loadBytes( urlloader.data, context );
    myWindow.stage.addChild(loader);

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    This is from a tester describing what happens on a Mac:
    No the program does not launch properly on the Mac
    What happens is this.
    I open my applications folder
    I open the App Folder and see another folder labeled Program V2.1
    I open that folder and see the Program blue icon which click to launch
    The folder disappears and the blue Program icon appears in my dock along side other applications looking ready for launching.
    This is where the problem starts
    If I click on the blue Program icon which is in my dock along side all of my other application icons they all drop off the screen. like the screen resolution changed suddenly or something,
    The menu along the top of the screen also moves off the screen . in the same manner
    so my desktop which usually has a visible dock at the bottom and a menu bar on the top now doesn't show either of those elements.
    I do have a couple of document icons on my desktop , you know text files or what ever they never move
    If I now click my mouse anywhere on the screen all of the icons return including the blue Program icon still sitting in by dock, if I click it again same sequence of actions.
    I deleted and reinstalled the latest version of Adobe Air and got the same result
    I also want to mention
    The top menu on the mac tells me what application is active, you know "finder" "Open office" "Firefox" what ever is program is running and active shows there
    Program has never show up as being active in the top menu so I'm guessing never fully launched
