Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac pro resolution problem

I have created a partition for windows 8.1 pro on my 13' retina display mac pro via boot camp, everything is fine except the resolution, when i open the browser, i could see pixels, the words aren't very sharp, but this isn't my biggest problem, when i open the Solidworks software i'm working on, the icons are too small, or the texts are too big for their boxes. what is happening here? anyone knows what is all about, or how to fix this? changing the resolution of the display didn't solve the problem.

This is how the words look like in the browser page, you could see pixels. The maximum resolution for this machine is 2560*1600

  • Windows Vista doesn't recognize Mac Pro RAM

I have installed Windows Vista Business on my Mac Pro using Boot Camp, and have found some anomalies that seem strange. It is basically working well (for Windows....).
    1. I installed this on a 500Gb HD on my Mac Pro. This machine is a fully configured box doing video editing, with extensive AV files. It has all four drive bays filled, 3 of them with 1Tb drives, the thrid with a single 500Gb drive. I was a bit surprised to find that Boot Camp won't allow partitioning of its OSX installed boot HD beyond a Mac Partition and the Boot Camp paritition, or a secondary entire HD dedicated to Windows. This is not very practical with these large drives, since even though HD storage is fairly cheap, I don't want to give Microsoft more than maybe 100gb on a drive. All of the other HDs are partitioned for multiple parititions, which I need to preserve. The OSX boot drive has 3 OSX partitions already installed. Any ideas on how to do this better? Yes, I know I can use Parallels or VMWare, and do, but find that native Boot Camp Windows is better.
    2. Windows Vista is running on a dedicated HD in Boot Camp on this machine (to all appearances running fine), but doesn't recognize more than 2Gb of RAM on my machine which is configured with 10Gb of RAM which is recognized appropriately in OSX. What am I missing?
I would appreciate any help on a partitioning scheme that works to support multiple partitions on these large drives, and a reason that only 2Gb out of 10Gb of RAM is recognized by Windows Vista Business in Boot Camp.
    Thanks!!!

    Thanks for your response.
I am running in Boot Camp, which runs in native mode without emulation. The advantage is that if you are going to run Windows, which is my goal, it doesn't have the overhead of OSX. Indeed, most Mac machines are among the fastest Windows machines available for equivalent hardware when running Windows in native mode. There are a few more arcane advantages to running natively, particularly in terms of connecting to external devices. There is no background RAM overhead when run natively.
    Thanks....

    Hey everyone,
I want to install windows 8 32bit on my mac pro (mid 2012). I upgraded the windows 7 I already had, but now I dont have drivers at all...
I searched drivers for the windows 8 32 bit but couldn't find any...
    Any solutions guys?
    Thanks a lot.
    Sincerely,
    Chiponn

There's been an update for OSX ML which addresses the issue for installing Windows 8 on bootcamp.
It's NOT recommended that you Upgrade.. However, the way to get the drivers is:
You'll need an external USB drive formatted as FAT for this.
    1) In OSX, start the Bootcamp Assistant
    2) Press Next
    3) UNTICK 'Remove WIndows 7 or Later Version'
    4) TICK Download the Latest Windows Support Software from Apple
    5) Insert USB drive
    6) Press CONTINUE
The drivers should download, and copy a WIndowsSupport folder onto the USB drive.
I did notice that Windows 8 still requires beta drivers for some aspects such as VGA (the Radio HD Card), which you can get on the AMD website.
Futhermore, why are you using Windows 8 "32" bit when you blatently have a powerful 64bit?
Anyway, hope this post helps ;-)

  • How to Physically move my windows hard drive to my mac pro

Is there any way to physically move my windows 7 harddrive to my mac pro and have it boot under bootcamp?

It is never a good idea to move to different hardware, even if it does seem okay and work.
Why not try and see? and then ask what's next.
Obviously you'll have to reactivate when it detects new hardware.

  • Can't Get MacBook Pro and Mac Pro to Network

I have a MacBook Pro (2008 - 2.5 Ghz. Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) that I have been connecting to my Mac Pro (2005 - 2 2.66 Ghz Xeon with 20 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) through an Ethernet switch on my school's network. This has worked without a hitch for years, but when I upgraded to 10.6.7 recently, the MacBook and Mac Pro fail to network. On the MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro's icon doesn't show in the shared area, and on the Mac Pro, I can see the icon for the MacBook Pro, but when I click on the icon to connect, I get the message that "Connection Failed There was an error connecting to the server (name of my MacBook Pro). Check the server name or IP address, and then try again." I have tried a direct connect using the "Connect to Server" under the Go menu on both machines, using their IP addresses, but no luck. Is there something I need to re-set to get these two to talk again? I have other Macs on the same network that my MacBook and my Mac Pro can see, and both machines can connect to them. They just can't connect to each other.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on  how to fix this.

I fixed the problem by re-setting the default values for my VirusBarrier X6 anti-virus program.

  • Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem

Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem
    Hi everyone,
I'v researched a lot about installing Win on Mac but I still got a problem when everything seems to be fine.
I got a Macbook Pro Retina, Late 2013 with OSX Mavericks and Bootcamp 5 installed on. And for installing windows, I already got an empty 8GB USB Drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). And I've prepared Windows 8.1 ISO in my Downloads folder.
During my last effort, I opened Bootcamp Assist and then Chose the options: "Create Windows 7 or later version installation disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple". Then I chose my Windows 8.1 ISO location and my destination. When it finished ,I was expecting it to run windows setup. But it closed and nothing happened
When I opened BootCamp again, only the first two options were available as before and "Install or remove Windows 7 or later" wasn't.
Now ,what do I have to do exactly? (NOTE: I'm not a professional. So please answer in a simple way. )
Should I restart the Mac and Hold OPTION while booting to run Windows setup? I was thinking about it but I thought I might screw it up all. So I decided to ask it here to be sure.
Any help will be appreciated by heart!

    Hi Alcatrax,
I would recommend following the steps in this link in order to help you complete your installation of Boot Camp:
Boot Camp Help: Install Windows on your Mac
    https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#apdecf0e4b6-b472-438d-881e-57c230b 1c250
    Prepare your Mac for Windows
Boot Camp Assistant helps prepare your Mac for Windows by creating a new partition for Windows and then starting the Windows installer. Optionally, you can install Windows using an external USB drive that contains a Windows ISO image downloaded from Microsoft and Windows support software.
Important: If you’re using a portable computer, connect the power adapter before continuing.
Insert an external drive into the USB port on your Mac and keep it inserted while you install Windows and Windows support software.
Open Boot Camp Assistant, located in the Other folder in Launchpad.
Select the option to install Windows, select other options you need, then click Continue.
Here are the other options you can choose:
If you want to install Windows from an external USB drive and you have a Windows ISO image, select the option to copy the image to an external USB drive. If this option isn’t available, your Mac doesn’t support installing Windows from an external USB drive.
If you haven’t already downloaded the Windows support software for your Mac, select the option to download it. In a later step, you’ll install the Windows support software on your Windows partition.
Follow the onscreen instructions for the options you selected.
When you’re asked to create a Windows partition, specify a partition size. If you have multiple hard drives in your computer, you can select a different hard drive and create a single partition on that drive, so that the drive is solely used for Windows.
Note: You can’t resize the partition later.
If you need help determining the best size for your Windows partition, refer to your Windows installer documentation. For Windows 8, create a partition that is at least 30 GB.
In a later step, you’ll format the Windows partition.
If you are using an installation disc for the 64-bit version of Windows, insert it into the optical drive in your Mac or the external optical drive. Otherwise, keep the external USB drive with the 64-bit version of Windows inserted.
    Click Install.
Boot Camp Assistant creates the Windows partition, restarts your Mac, then opens the Windows installer.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,

  • I cannot get full 4k2k resolution while bootcamp windows 8.1 on new mac pro

When using OS X Yosemite, I get full 4k resolution on my mac pro 2013 using a seiki 39" TV/monitor. However, when I'm using widows 8.1 on the bootcamp partition I can only get 1080P. Has anyone seen this problem? Is it the mini display to HDMI cord that I'm using? Would this still be the case if I went straight HDMI to HDMI? On OS X side its full 4k at 30Hz default, but in bootcamp its 1080P at 60Hz default. Thanks, footdocy.

Did you upgrade from Win 8 to 8.1? If so then:
    Additional Information
4K displays and Ultra HD TVs using Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 with Boot Camp use the same rules as OS X. If you upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1, you should repair Boot Camp drivers.

  • Can I use a Windows internal HDD on my Mac Pro? (No Bootcamp)

Hey, I have a mac pro early 2008 I believe and it has a 500gb hdd with osx installed not sure which version. Anyways, I ordered a 1tb hdd and I was wondering if I could just install it in the primary hdd slot and install windows on it straight up with no bootcamp or anything. Would that work, just booting and installing a new hdd with windows on my mac pro? If so what else would I need to know to get the best performance, and if it is possible could I still switch to my second hdd that'srunning ios and is also installed and use it as a mac when I want? Please let me know, looking to install soon.

For that you need the Boot Camp control panel in Windows.
If you want NTFS (but not as startup disk option) then buy Paragon's - it has its own startup disk but often does not see the Windows hdd. I blame some of it on Apple's proprietary one-off EFI implementation which is different from the UEFI Intel, Microsfosft and others have used.
Use the Option and try BootChamp (never used it myself).
Of course if OS X isn't present it seems to immediately boot Windows for me.
you should be able to find Boot Camp 3.x or above to download and install inside Windows.

  • I am trying to setup iCal syncing with Mobile Me on Mac Pro and Mac Pro Notebook.  I have accounts added in for MobileMe and Gmail.  Problem is that iCal does not appear as one of the Sync choices in the MobileMe sync window on either computer?

I am trying to sync iCal with all my computers and devices via MobileMe.  I cannot sync iCal on my Mac Pro nor Mackbook Pro.  I believe accounts to be setup properly BUT on both computers there is NO choice to select iCal among the choices in "Sync Menu" on the MobileMe window in System Preferences.  Help?

    Greetings,
If you delete individual messages they will be deleted from other accounts.
If you setup the accounts as IMAP (which is the default for MobileMe accounts) you can remove the accounts and the other users will still have the email.
Alternatively if you don't want to see the account in the other user go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > MobileMe account > Advanced > remove the check mark for "enable account".  This leaves the account and just turns it off so you don't see it  and it doesn't send / receive messages.
Finally,  you should be backing up your data for safekeeping so even if you did delete the account and the messages magically vanished you could restore them: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
    Hope that helps.

  • Windows 7 64 bit on Mac Pro Ver 1.1 installation options!

Hi All, There seems to be a lot of concern that Win 7 wont run on MP V:1.1. I have this MP and do want to install Win 7 on it.
    My Spec is as follows:
Mac Pro (2 x 2.66GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon) Ver 1.1. HD4870 Graphics Card and a 24" Dell U2410 Display. My O/S is Lion.
Question: Will it work installed using Lion's Boot Camp on a freshly formated hard drive?
Question. If Boot Camp is the problem can I install Windows 7 as a totally independent O/S on freshly formated hard drive on my Mac Pro by pulling the Lion O/S out making it exclusively a Windows Pc?
This option, if possible would be very inconvenient as I suppose I would have to remove the Hard Drive containing the Lion O/S every time I wanted to use Win 7?
    Can anyone advise me please

I just thought I would share my Mac Pro 1.1 experience. I recently had to replace a failed memory riser card  by buying a pair from ebay (they both failed a month apart) and took advantage of the opportunity to replace my Mac Pro 2006 with the 2008 model for $700 and inserted my drives and upgraded to 10.8.5. Just holding off on Mavericks for now...  Bought a Radeon 5770 and graphics are just peachy (i'm not a gamer). Then I put a samsung ssd 512gb in as the system drive and a 3tb for data so that machine is going fine
What to do with the 2006 Mac Pro?. No one wants it on ebay so I thought i'd try it on Windows. Windows 32bit loads via boot camp once you figure out how to  recognise the sata bus (depends on your windows 7 dvd version i think) but under 32 bit you only get 2gb usable ram ! something , not just video is addressing 2gb so that *****. You cannot boot off the 64bit dvd (try it) so i installed 64bit windows 7 on a clean drive on my core2dou pc then put the drive in my 4core xeon mac pro. It booted fine and installed alot of drivers for the xeons automatically. Then I got some drivers from 64bit bootcamp and sound drivers from the realtek website. Then , I upgraded to 64 bit windows 8 pro and everything still works. Then, I downloaded the free windows 8.1 pro update and everything still works..... As PCs go, this is still a pretty fast machine, and gives little away to , say an i5 or i7. If you put in an SSD and gamers video card it  would fly, but i dont need that....

  • Can I install Windows 8 on an older Mac Pro with Mavericks upgrade?

I have an Early 2008 Mac Pro which I just upgraded to Mavericks, which came with Boot Camp 5.1. Can I install Windows 8 on my machine? The information on this site suggests I can only use Windows 7 with Boot Camp 4 on my system, but does this take an upgraded OS into account? Put another way, is the version compatibility determined only by my OS, or also by my hardware (processor, memory, etc.). This is the first time I will be using Boot Camp to install Windows on this machine.

no, it is determined mainly by machine type then by requisite driver support in the OSX
officially, x64 w7 is as far as you can go but google around, i'm sure there have been people who got w8 to work

  • Installing windows 8.1 on new mac pro (late 2013)

    Greetings,
First time poster so forgive me if I mess up protocol.
I'm trying to install Window 8.1 on my new late 2013 Mac Pro via bootcamp.
I have followed all the steps in bootcamp and the installation fails saying "cannot update boot configuration".
I tried using a few methods I saw people on here had success with creating their own partitions with disk utility, but I still have not had success.
My system is the 6 core version, 16gb RAM, 512gb flash storage, D500 graphics cards
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with my brand new MacPro (6-Core, D700, 1tb SSD)
I have called Apple support to report this issue, in the mean time I've done the following tests:
    Windows 7/8 tests NO Joy...
I have also tried tricking the windows 8 installer by doing the following.
1)Boot of Windows 8 installation (USB)
2)At the setup screen it will ask you to format your boot camp created drive to NTFS so that windows can be installed.
After the formatting is done and windows is ready to install i swap the Windows 8 USB stick for a Windows 7 USB stick then I click on next.
3)Windows starts copying the files just like it did on the Windows 8 installation and I get the same error.
    "Can't update boot configuration"
I guess it has nothing to do with the Windows USB Stick since I've tried installing Win 7/8 and 8.1 with the exact same error.
I have not received any news from Apple support on this issue.
Any other ideas or suggestions ?
    Thanks!
