Windows 8.1 resets startup disk to itself after every update

Hello,
I'm on a late 2014 Macbook Pro 15" retina, running bootcamp with Yosemite on one partition and Windows 8.1 on the other. I prefer OSX as my default startup disk, but every time Windows updates it resets the default startup disk to Windows. Of course I can change it manually, but this gets tedious. Does anyone know a fix for this? Any help would be appreciated.

You have screwed up your system and you're blaming the crashes on someone else. You need to stop thinking it's someone else's problem. Keeping your system healthy is your responsibility.
There is NO upgrade path from preview/evaluation copies to the released versions, anyway, so it really doesn't matter. You have to reinstall
something.
You could reinstall 8.0 and upgrade, or you could get an 8.1 disc and put that in as a fresh install (more expensive, but my recommendation), or you could see if maybe this can help you:

I am getting the popup window that says my startup disk is almost full. I have transfered most of my photos to an external HD, deleted most of my iTunes library, and emptied the trash. The problem is that with these steps, the diskspace did not increase at all-not even a megabyte. Any ideas why or how to fix it?

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
df -Hl

Windows set as Default Startup Disk; How to Escape?

My kids have been using our IMac with Windows for several years now. No problems at all.
But today, they went into system prefs in OSX, and (!!!) selected the Windows partition as the startup disk!
So Windows XP is booted, regardless of our attempts to escape ... (option key, PRAMzap).
How can we get that Imac back on OSX ??
This is an early public beta version of Bootcamp (don't see any 'bootcamp control panel' or icon on bottom right screen).

Thanks for your suggestions - I've now tried those startup methods but (to my endless dismay) the IMac starts up Windows regardless.
It seems like the IMac disregards these startup shortcuts when a Windows partition is selected as startup disk?
To recap, WindowsXP boots even when holding down command-X, or CTL, or T, or Option, or PRAMzap, or Shift.
I'm holding the Option key (yes, wired keyboard) from before powerup and all during the boot.
Also I tried to boot from OSX disk (holding down C-key) but that likewise failed. It then took Windows a much longer to boot (as was also the case when I tried command-X).
Can I, while running Windows, install the bootcamp stuff needed so that I have access to the Mac-disk in the Windows control panels? If so, what should I install?

Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Restart your Mac after freeing up disk space then check Stoage again.
Another way to view avialable space:
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop then click Get Info.
In the Get Info panel you'll see: Available & Capacity
Again, make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

Service suspended itself after iOS7 update!

Service on my iPhone 5 suspended itself after I updated to iOS7. I had to manually re activate service a few minutes ago by logging on to Verizon Wireless's website. After reactivating service, a new window containing two pieces of news opened: one, I was congratulated for reactivating service, and two, I also was advised that the existing contract would be extended for an amount of time identical to the unsolicited suspension of service.
How is this my problem? Why am I being penalized for a situation completely beyond my control? Verizon Wireless really grows into you, doesn't it?

This is the response from a Verizon Customer Service Representative, when I requested their assistance restoring service. Please pay particular attention to text in bold:
"I do see that when the device attempted it's reinitiation with the network the evening of 10/8 (which I assume is the evening you completed the update) it recognized a previous insurance claim from June where Asurion had reported the phone as lost/stolen. It appears you may have found the device and contacted them to reverse the claim, but the system still recognized the information being reported as stolen from Asurion".
"When a software update through Apple is completed, it triggers the phone to reactivate it's wireless connections. This triggered the line to suspend when a new activation was attempted as a system security measure".
"This is how the system is designed to keep your information safe and avoid someone being able to activate your lost/stolen phone onto their account. I'm sorry that it ended up causing so much frustration for you. I assure you that your account is safe and it wasn't due to anyone accessing your account unauthorized".
"I do hope this helps to clarify what occured with your iPhone during the upgrade. I've confirmed that your Device ID and SIM have both been removed from our lost/stolen database for good, so you can complete future updates with ease and avoid this situation again in the future."
As I said, service suspended itself after the iOS7 update.

Startup disk full, unable to install updates

I keep getting notified that my startup disk is almost full even though updates I am trying to install are not exceeding disk space capacity. I have tried removing unused applications to free up disk space to no avail.

You should maintain a minimum of 15% of the total capacity of your HDD as contiguous free space for swap files and to avoid directory corruption, data loss and possible HDD crash.
Begin by using some of the suggestions in Dr. Smoke's FAQ Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk. This should give you breathing space. However, since that space will not last forever I suggest that you upgrade to a larger capacity drive.

Iphone 5 not restoring my back up data from itunes? Iphone 5 began freezing and turning off by itself after ios7 updates. How can i recover my data?

I began having problems with my iphone 5 after I updated to ios7. It began having several issues e.g. freezing, turning on and off by itself and the home button was not responding.
It is a long story because I had to talk to apple reps etc. to make a long story short; my iphone is now in recovery mode and only works when it is set as a new iphone.
Now my back up data on itunes will not back up into my iphone 5 and my iphone is still in recovery mode.
How can I restore my itunes back up data into my iphone 5?
How can I get my phone out of recovery mode?
How can I recover my potentially lost data, contacts, sms, etc., due to backing up my iphone and trying to fix the issues with apple reps?

Windows 8.1 store apps aren't running after definition update of windows defender!!!

again. But now yesterday my windows updated again & now again I am in the same situation and this time I am unable to restore my windows as there is not restore point left. :/
Can any body help me out with this? I have scanned my Pc with Kapsersky2014, no viruses are found on system.

Before returning the system to a previous restore point, we can first do some troubleshooting and see whether it KB2267602 that case this issue.
First, I suggest you run wsreset.exe to clear the Windows Store cache, most issues are caused by the cache, then you can also chec other solutions in the link below:

IMac wakes from sleep by itself after security update 2010-001

Since installing last weeks security update 2010-001, my iMac has suddenly started waking up when it should be asleep. Now I've had Auto Sleep problems with my iMac before, but this problem of finding my iMac running when I left it asleep started immediately after the update. Now, one thing additional I've notice since the update is that I often see the message on the screen "Keyboard Connected" when it always was or should have been and I wonder if this is related to my iMac waking up. Anyone else seen this problem since the update or have any ideas?

Thanks to you both for suggestions, but I still have the same problem after trying them and as I said in my title this only started after the 2010-001 security update. As a test I put my iMac to sleep at 13:35 and it woke up by itself at 13:46. Here is the console log below, does it help at all in finding the root cause?

Has anyone experienced a reset of their apps level after the update to iOS 5?

Has anyone else experienced a reset of their apps after the update to iOS5 on your iPad2? If so how we're you able to retrieve the information or your money back for all funds spent to advance in the game.

You could try closing all apps completely and then do a reset and see if that helps. To close all apps : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My iphone 3gs turns off frequency by itself after i updated to 4.3.1

My problem is after I updated my iphone 3gs to 4.3 version it turns off automatically within 2.3 minutes even with full battery and I have to press home and power key to turn it on. But weird thing is that if I use my iphone to play games or listen to music or charge then the iphone won’t turn it off. I tried reset, recover and it won’t work .I also tried to downgrade but I don’t have a backup. Can anyone help?

I don't know what you mean by "recover" and you can't downgrade the iOS. You need to do the basic troubleshooting steps described in the User Guide:
Reset phone
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore phone in iTunes as new, without using a backup
If restoring as new doesn't help, you had a hardware failure during the update.

Why did my startup disk name change after Lion installaion?

I recently upgraded my 2008 MacBook Pro to Lion. I noticed later that my hard drive (startup) name was changed to "240ik=-`o9". Has anyone else seen this before? Any idea what caused it? Do I need to be concerned? Thanks.

Just click on the HD icon and depres the "return" key. Then type Macintosh HD.
One way to prevent that from happening again, is to go to the Finder>Preferences...>General menu and deselect the "Hard disks" option.

Computer "reset" itself after software update

I updated my mac a few days ago, and i went to boot it up a few minutes ago and ALL of my bookmarks, private info, keychains, system preferences, etc. had been restored to the default. I did not do this manually or even accidentally. I properly shut down my computer, and booted it up to this.
1) What the heck happened?
2) What can I do to fix it?

I'm having the same problem, posted about it too, have not yet got an answer. Seems like something was dodgy with the last update, can't be anything else. Apparently we're not the only ones having a lot of trouble.
Question: If you change the settings in mail, dock, etc. do they remain after a reboot, or are they back to default after rebooting? And do you get an error on running iTunes along the lines of library is damaged?

Disk partition unmodifiable after Mavericks update

Hi! I just updated to Mavericks from Mountain Lion. Under Mountain Lion, my Macbook pro internal SSD 500go was divided into 2 partitions, one 150go for windows and a 350go partition for OSX. As I always do when a major OSX version is released, I completely format my SSD for a clean start. So I upgraded to mavericks, launched boot camp, removed windows 7, restarted my mac, booted straight to the disk utility, completely formated my SSD but a problem remains: I cannot repartition my disk, even if windows isn't even installed anymore! So I basically have a 350go macbook pro now, with 150go unnaccessible. What to do?

I attempted this route, but apple has blocked the installer for the gutenprint because it is not an approved "app store" program. Any new solutions to get my color printing back?
I've been using an HP C4780 All-in-one printer for the last 3 years without any problems until I made the mistake of loading Maverick.
It also screwed up my ability to use the scanner. The only thing I can save from a scan is JPG2000 which doesn't always work for the things I do like online deposits and PDF submissions for insurance claims. I can't save anything as a PDF now without get a gray page that is unreadable.
Anyway to go back to my snow leopard?

Jabber 9.2 on Windows 8 - Google Calendar integration asking for login after every restart

I am currently testing Jabber 9.2.0, build 496 on Windows 8. Google Calendar integration works, but the user is prompted to re-authenticate after exiting and restarting Jabber.
I have tried running the client in compatibility mode (Windows 7), but no luck.
Any ideas?
