Windows 8.1 Run as different user from search function

Hi There,
After about a year of Windows 8 I was actually quite enjoying the ability to type a program name in start menu and then use right click to run as a different user. which is achieved via changing local security policy (i.e. running rsat tools
as a domain admin account etc). However, Now that Microsoft have decided that a search bar should appear when you start typing from the start menu, although this now displays the applications in the sidebar you can no longer right click and run as different
user. This means that for me windows 8.1 is now less user friendly than its older brother. Has this function been implemented and am I just missing something?

Based on my research, on the windows 8.1,we could add "Run as different user" on Start in Group Policy.
Please perform the following steps:
1.Press Win+R, and type"gpedit.msc",then press Enter.
2.In the left pane, click/tap on to expand User Configuration, Administrative Templates, and open Start Menu and Taskbar.
3.In the right pane of Start Menu and Taskbar, double click/tap on Show "Run as different user" command on Start.
4.Select Enabled, click/tap on OK.
5.Reboot the computer.

Can we please have this back in the Start menu? It works from the taskbar. I had to registry hack Windows 8 to get that functionality and that was a total pain. As an admin I use the Run As context for everything under the Administrative Tools folder.
It would be nice to either right-click or at least Shift+right-click to get this functionality.

Yeah, I'm shift+right-clicking, no "Run As Different User". I do have "Run As Administrator", which is useless for network/domain admin stuff. I like my desktop and taskbar to be as clean as possible. The cool thing about Win 8 was
the organizable start screen which worked well for me. Since there's no more Start Screen I need a way to keep the programs organized and I want to keep them in the Start menu.
If I pin it to the taskbar I will gain this functionality, but that's entirely too many icons to be pinned.

Logon as different user from within report

Hi,
I would like to logon as a different user within the report. Reason is, that I don't have the opportunity to change how the report is called. Due to some security issues, I would like to do something like "CONNECT scott/tiger@myoracle" from within the report.

Firefox Flash plugin crashes when FF launched with "Run as different user"

I often start Firefox in Windows 7 (x64) using the "Run as different user" mechanism. After upgrading my Flash plugin to v11 (11.8.800.94), the browser will hang for several minutes when visiting any page that contains Flash content. When Firefox becomes responsive again, scrolling a page with Flash content will cause the app to hang again. Disabling the Flash plugin eliminates the problem.
It seems the plugin is silently crashing -- I'm not alerted to a plugin crash in any way (no dialog or yellow "Flash player crashed" notice at the top of the window), but after FF hangs I will see a new crash report entry in the FF about:crashes list. The plugin does not crash when Firefox is running under the same account that is logged onto Windows interactively -- only when running FF as a different user. For example, if I log onto Windows with user account Adam and launch FF normally, the problem does not exist. If I close FF and launch it as user Bob (shift+right-click Firefox Shortcut, choose "Run as different user"), the problem will appear. However, if I log into Windows as user Bob and launch FF normally, the problem does not exist.
I have tried the following as troubleshooting steps, all to no effect:
Create new Windows user accounts to rule out potential Windows or Firefox profile issues.
Use another PC (also Windows 7 x64). The same behavior occurs on both PCs
Disable AVG antivirus.
Upgrade Firefox to latest version (23.0.1).
Disable Flash hardware acceleration.
Give both user accounts full local admin privileges.
Can anyone suggest something to try next?
Update: Per the troubleshooting instructions at < http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071?tstart=0 >, I was able to eliminate the problem by adding the line
ProtectedMode=0
to my C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg file to disable Flash Player Protected Mode. There are instructions on that page for submitting a Protected Mode-related bug, and I will follow through with that.

Maybe you did't understand my previous statement. There are no crashes in FF 3.6, There is no previous evidence FF 14 was ever here, I completely uninstalled all trace of Firefox, no app data, no preferences, no cache. I will upgrade to FF14 so I can send IDs,

Using "Run as different user"

Is there a way to make a shortcut to a program so that it will prompt you for credentials every time. I know if you hold down Shift and right click you can get the Run as different user (which is what I want). I just want to save a step because I use the program all the time, but need domain credentials to make any changes. AD, GP Managment etc...
Windows XP had the functionality by setting the advanced properties of the shortcut to Run with different credentials. Windows 7 only has run as administrator in the advanced shortcut properties., which doesn't work because its local admin not domain admin.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Actually, this command was completely removed in Windows Vista and was added back to the Windows 7 extended right click context menu. :))
You can use the same 'fix' that was used in Vista. Go to the following Microsoft website and download the ShellRunas utility.
Sysinternals - ShellRunas
Unzip the file and place a copy of ShellRunas.exe in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
Create a shortcut to the executable that you want to run as a different user.
Right click the shortcut and select Properties.
Place the following command at the beginning of the Target line so that the command looks like this.
C:\Windows\System32\ShellRunas.exe <path to shortcut target>
(Be sure to include the space after shellrunas.exe)
You can also add the Run As Different User to the normal right click context menu.
Open an elevated command prompt and enter the following command.
shellrunas /reg
Press ENTER.

Getting windows error during running the sql scripts from form 6i

I made a little form application. The purpose of this application is to generate explain plan for a particular SQL. Some sql scripts run internally in order to populate the result on forms screen after pressing the forms button but I am getting windows error during running the sql scripts from form 6i.
I am using forms 6i with patch 17 with Oracle 10G database on windows 2000 professional on same computer.
This application runs fine with 8i.
Please inform me where the problem is and how to overcome it.

I need to run one application with different user credentials.
I am using Runas command in batch.
When running the task it's prompting for password.
Here i want to run the application without any promptings.
Can any body help me is there any batch script for running the program silently without any prompts.

Runas is typically not for windows forms but for console operations.
Try the forum of your program language.
However, be aware that probably there will no answer for this given because Runas is mostly meant for malicious programs so code for that is not allowed to distribute using forums.

Key figure values vary each time the report is run by different users

Hi All,
We are facing a unique problem, here it goes :
Different users are getting different values for the same key figure, when executing the same query on the same selection conditions.Each time, user executes the report, he is getting varying values for the same key figure.Any idea's how to resolve this issue??

Hi Bindu,
One reason might be due to authorizations as discussed earlier.
check how frequently is the cube getting refreshed.
This might also happen that if users are running the data at different times and there is a cube load in between.
check for this.

WE HAVE A CLIENT COMPUTER IN THE SHOP (EXPANION UNIT). WE CAN'T RUN FIREFOX ON IT AND OFFICE COMPUTER AT SAME TIME. I HAVE CHECKED THE BOX THAT ALLOWS US TO RUN AS DIFFERENT USERS, BUT IT STILL IS NOT ALOWING ME TO LOG ON. SUGGESTIONS?

The box is under properties, 2nd tab, then advanced. We are currently using the same log on for both computers. Do we need to create a separate log on for the expanion unit or?

IPhone 5s Voice memo to mp3. Now music on iPhone. Won't play from search function.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ? Anybody help please. Thanks

Oracle VM run as different users

I wanted to make use of my son's nice relatively new computer running windows 7 (64 bit) with the help of Oracle VirtualBox running an Ubuntu Server with LAMP and Tomcat within. Using my own account on this host box, I deployed Virtual Box and the guest Os and it was fine, I was able to access it from my own older box on the same home local network.
However if the VirtualBox is started as logged in as another user, namely from under my son's account, almost everything is fine, however the guest operating system can not access the network and starts without an IP address. While booting, it stops for 2 times 61

A side note: my son's account name (Dénes) contains an accented letter, mine (although in reality I am Iván) does not not (I dropped the accent in the account name).
An early version of Open Office (or was it its predecessor, Star Office?) choked if the user account name contained an accented letter. I do not think however the problem stems from this in the case here.
I thought to try Microsoft's virtual machine too. It is bundled with XP mode but the Virtual PC is told to be applicable alone. I downloaded and run it. It first checked the host OS (including its being genuine) and then told something like it was not valid for this PC.
The host OS is genuine Windows 7 Professional 64 bit (v6.1 SP1) in Hungarian language.

Run As Different User on Control Panel Items

Hope this is the right place,
I used to use the Shift Right-Click "Run As..." on contol panel items like add/remove programs and system in Windows XP. This saved me having to log out the user to login to the admin account. This feature seems to have been removed from Windows 7. I've tried running a command in cmd that resembles "runas control appwiz.cpl" and when I enter the credentials all opens fine but it still doesn't give the admin privilages (this worked in RC). I was hoping there would be a easy way of doing this. I know this works for normal exe's but I'm interested in the .cpl apps.

As for other control panel items like Device manager or Disk manager, You can use the following method to run it as adminitrator:
1. Click start button, tyep in CMD, right click CMD and choose Run as administrator. You will be asked for the password of the adminstrator account.
2. Type in MMC and then press enter. It also works for CPL files.
3. Click File->Add/Remove Snap-in, then add the item you want to use.

This answer works for MMC snap-in items, but it doesn't work for any .cpl item. So don't try - switch user instead and do your work logged as administrator.

no crash ids since this is version 3.6, the only version that doesn't crash, and I have to use Firefox for work stuff.
I have submitted over a hundred crash reports and included my email, but no one has ever contacted me with any help. This has been going on for weeks. I have been forced to use an outdated version of FF because no one has bother to get back to me. I would be happy to update to 14 and start the crash cycle again if someone wants to give me some suggestions I haven't tried already.
BTW, no font conflicts or RAM problems, (someone else's issue)
